Random facts that may amuse you about the river episode of hilda

To be handed a script and then be like ' ok now lead your team to do the visuals' its like ,a wild experience so I want to share some of the weird things my brain latched onto .. For the door sequence, My pitch to our location and color designers was based off of a blacklight, under water themed mini-putt course I used to love when I was a kid. Just goes to show you can really pull inspiration from anywhere haha. I dont think anyone expected me to go that buck wild with it but I'm glad everyone was on board. anyway.. I lovingly called it Eugene's ' Putt Putt cave of doom ' . I wanted the doors to look kind of flat, like stage props ! The mini putt is STILL THERE BTW . look at this video. GOSH I MISS IT SO MUCH.

Anyway - It works great too because it allowed everyone to have the cooler blacklight palettes, where you can see Eugenes -true- colors. I wanted him to be duller outside of the water on purpose. Cuz hes just a lil old timey guy. A " slightly deranged Stan Laurel " , which was what i had in my pitch notes to the design team.

Heres another silly fact but we based part of the serpent off of the sarcastic fringehead cuz..look at it . its just like -AHHHHHHHHHH. It just waves its mouth infront of other fish and it looks scary but it doesnt DO ANYTHING. ( I think, biologists can correct me)

Also just in general I was vibing with the old..creatures on a map . Like. Of course we're going to give this serpent hooves. OF COURSE THIS SEA SERPENT NEEDS HOOVES. So the designers did a few rounds based off of way older illustrations.

The choice of shadow puppets was done to give Eugene an 'old timey' flavor. I really wanted him to feel more vaudeville and tap dancey - so the shadow puppets were to give him a..more modest intro. The adventures of prince achmed was an inspiration, because how old school animation can you get ! And it really backed up the use of bold colors. I wanted to save his BIGGEST performance to the end, also shout out to @castletoons who boarded this episode AND nailed the song sequence WITHOUT EVEN HAVING THE FINAL SONG?! It fit perfectly. It was fate.

oh , and if you felt a particular beetle juicey tone to this whole episode? You're not wrong ! While it wasnt on my mind when I was first working on visual concepts, our storyboard supervisor Jeff Bittle showed me this intro from the second season of the animated show. Everything zipping at the camera on this endless void ride was the perfect chaotic energy that really helped bring in that sinister tone.

UH SO YEAH I mean I could go on about some of the thought processes behind choices and stuff and honestly I dont want to get into the weeds with opening up a pandoras box on behind the scenes of hilda or whatever. But I thought this episode was a fun example to kind of share a bit of The entire team ran with this weird chaotic energy and I appreciate them so much for it. I'll always love this strange lil episode.

the thing about supernatural never doing episodes in the city after season one is that we never got an episode at a dance club where dean accidentally takes ecstasy because the demon they’re chasing slipped it to him. he gets sooooo soo dancey and happy. he’s wearing a fed outfit so when he gets really into it he takes off his coat and button down, and is just in a black tank top (also cool because he’d look like patrick swayze lol). there’s a bunch of intense shit happening all over, so cas and him get separated. sam is doing his own crazy thing that actually furthers the plot of the episode. 

at some point in his euphoric dancing he thinks “wait. what am i doing. why do i feel different...where are sam and cas...” so he yells over the loud music “HAS ANYONE SEEN MY BEST FRIEND? HE’S REALLY HANDSOME! HE’S THE FATHER OF MY CHILD! IT’S KIND OF COMPLICATED. YOU GET IT...HE’S REALLY COOL!” when cas finally finds him he leans in really close, so dean can hear him, and yells “DEAN IT’S NOT SAFE HERE. WE HAVE TO LEAVE - “ “YOU’RE SO PRETTY! DANCE WITH ME!” “DEAN THE DEMON, SHE - “ “I KNOW, I KNOW. SHE’S HERE. SHE DEFINITELY SLIPPED ME SOMETHING. BUT I FEEL REALLY GOOD, IT’S OKAY”

dean reaches for him, and begins to pull off the lapels of cas’ trench coat and blazer. cas tears them off the rest of the way. they dance, and it’s super intense. the music is bumping, the lights are flashing, the camera moves in really close on their faces, the tension is crazy, they’re holding eye contact the whole time, and it’s even in slowmo for a bit. you get the feeling they’re really about to kiss. then they nearly get knocked over, because a plot-relevant fight broke out, and someone got punched and thrown into them. they actually have to get back to work now.

Once you show interest in his mushrooms, you won't get him to stop talking about the different varieties, their properties, where they grow, how to find them.

When you say his cooking makes you happy, he will try to make it into something sly or sneaky but he's really very proud of his own work and how much it means to you.

It's part because he doesn't want you to feel obligated to help and part because he doesn't want you messing anything up.

Of course he trusts your cooking skills but he's so used to being skeptical since Kalim got poisoned.

He doesn't know how to respond at all.

He'll mutter an awkward "thank you" before attempting to process the oddly intimate feeling of the simple statement.

People don't usually appreciate his cooking. He's just a servant after all and it's expected for him to be good at cooking.

But you come along and start praising him like it doesn't mean anything, not knowing how touched he is.

Felting progress today

I recently watched some tmnt shorts the other night in a discord group I'm in and i felt inspired to try and make cucumber mikey in that one rise short. Him silly :3 he so cute

And it also gave me a use for the mikey head i had already made a good while back (gotta make him his lil blep)

I gave him the markings i usually draw on him and made his mask removable :3

Manage to make the arms so far, symmetry is a fickle thing to uphold in felting. Im still trying to find a way to make hands and feet in a way that's easy and that works for me cuz they a lil hard to make since they're small. Might do the legs tomorrow

Then the cucumber, which is still a work in progress, i use white for the base since its the most amount of wool i have then lay some greens on top. I am lacking in dark greens tho so i might have to order some more to get the colour im looking for. I'm hoping by the end of this i can sew his arms on in a way that im able to make them move and he can do his lil dancey dance

Also rip my needle. Not the first to break and definitely not the last lmao Good thing i have extras. When you're invested in this kind of craft, ALWAYS have an extra supply of needles, they will break even if you think you're being careful, it still happens.

2024.02.16-17 sukekiyo at Kyoto Gekijo

I really wanted to write about each show separately but then the 17th was filled with too many exciting things and there was no time. So I'll try about them together. And because of the setlists it also feels like they both belong together anyway.

2.16 The first day flow felt like the young idol started bright and excited, innocent, but then fell, experiencing the dirty side of love and people, but wanted to find love somehow anyway. And it finished with 呼吸・kokyuu...

As the BGM they are playing another movie (sound only).

5 minutes to and then at 6:30 the theatre buzzer sounded to signal the start of the show.

They had the usual see through screen in front of the stage (always done for the seated shows). sukekiyo and the tour name appeared as the snow was softly falling in the dark. At the same time band members walked on the stage, Takumi first, followed by Yuchi and Mika, then utA and Kyo last.

And Takumi started the piano melody of Margaret. It's so nice that they again chose to start with the last song from the previous tour, like they're creating a connection between then and now.

The stage was mostly their normal setting, but Kyo's stand had a dark bouquet laying in the middle of the table, I'm pretty sure it was the one with the doll in it that he shared in his Instagram story. There was also a high chair on the right side of his stand, right next to it.

And a new addition were big light bulbs hanging on wires over the stage, one over each band member hanging lower and four more a bit higher, nine in total. When グロス・Gloss started they lit up but dimmed when song got quieter.

During 愛した心臓・Aishita shinzo Kyo was dancing, he also came close the screen stretching his arm towards audience. (but I'm always unsure how much they can see from the other side because of how the light works on the screen), he crouched when dancing. Kyo was very dancey, utA as well (I was sitting on utA's side that night, aisle seat though).

They all wore outfits from their last artist photos. utA's hair was more standing, full 90s visual kei style. Kyo changed his look having a very different hairstyle. Because he shaved his head to get a new tattoo in January his hair is still very short, like in Citta he glued things on though, for sukekiyo he had two thin pink braids, one on each side, styled in a way they created two rings. And he had the porcelain doll effect make up, shiny face with drawn eyebrows, dark eye make up and full lips. The back of his dress is quite open so we could see his tattooed back. Both Candis and Valentina were quite fun with the pen lights. And this part had a lot of dancey songs that even come with set dance moves... But since it was a seated show it was only Kyo dancing, with other band members rocking and jumping as well, fans had to endure and stay in their seats😂

With 口に林檎・kuchi ni ringo the stage went darker and Kyo was lit up by his mic stand's pink light. aftermath followed with the soft dark mood in the venue and the video on the screen. Some of the autumn temple has been edited and changed to pink cherry blossoms with petals scattering. Kyo sang standing by his mic stand, illuminated in pink.

And after the song ended Takumi played the piano melody that starts the session. Kyo softly walked towards the chair and sat with one leg over the other, very dignified, like a film noir singer or a diva. A black clothed staff member walked on the stage from the left side holding a make up case and started to 'do' Kyo's make up. He patted Kyo's face with a towel, he then used a sponge and a brush, then 'did' Kyo's lips. I don't think he actually changed anything but it was a part of the performance. Kyo stayed seated almost motionless through the whole process.

Then Kyo softly got up and walked to his mic stand, the session continued as Kyo joined singing. The cheerful idol from the start of the concert was gone by now, the innocence lost. The want, the hurt, the darker feelings took place to create someone new.

It felt to me that the lights towards the end of the performance were changing between red - fiery, angry and strong - and blue - calmer and sadder, to me it felt like there was a battle of various emotions inside of our heroine. I aways have a ton of respect for Mika who is creating the visualisations for the shows. Like during 変わってくれませんでしょうか・kawattekuremasendeshouka? when the front screen is very simple and the sides are dark with water falling over Kyo in the middle as the rain is supposed to wash everything away.

During 夢見ドロ・Yumemidoro Kyo was dancing more seductively, even wrapped his leg around the mic stand, baring it to the people. During Scarlet Kyo was pointing his lips with his index finger, 'I want you to kiss me'. Even broken things want to find love.

And at the end the acceptance came and resignation. Ending with 呼吸・kokyu had many people crying, if they were not crying by then anyway.

At the end Kyo slowly turned and left the stage. The end credits started on the screen, the audience was clapping as the rest of the band members slowly left as well. But many people kept crying even then (yours truly included).

But we did get the Gion Matsuri tour announced! 4 days at Kyoto MUSE! I wonder how many people will manage to hit all tickets on one account... I'll try😂

One more thing that was different was Kyo's stand, on the second day there were no flowers there. So I guess it was a present for his birthday?

The setlist flow was was different on this day. They started with 訪問者X・homonshaX and Kyo's bug dance. He was also pointing at the audience as he sang.

During グロス・Gloss the light bulbs lit up again. There was one moment when Kyo made a movement raising his arms like he wanted to catch his light bulp between his hands.

The video for The Hole had a mix of colours and Kyo was dancing. He definitely had more of a seductress in his movements on the second night. He stretched one arm and moved the other with the music and switched them. The idol songs following felt quite different because of the way they started the set and the mood.

After aftermath the staff came again to 'do' Kyo's make up and it was followed up with a session. At the end the stage was quite dark with a simple spotlight on Kyo.

With 論外な生き物として・rongaina ikimono toshite I love how the song switches from soft to heavy, from Kyo carresing the mic stand softly to him headbanging.

And the hair set he had made it kinda interesting for headbanging 😆 he had thin pink braids glued to his hair again, this time the loops were shorter so the end of the brace was behind the loops. So they bounced when Kyo moved. He wore a cropped black top with puffy sleeves and strands of pearls over it. Flowy pleated black skirt and again pink tabi boots. The rest of the band members had different outfits too. utA again had a very classic v-kei outfit, this time his hair was styled to the right side. Takumi had a long white collar outfit. Mika I couldn't see, from my seat Mika was obstructed by Kyo's iPad stand 😅 Yuchi had a sleeveless Nike top with long gloves, he changed his hair style too to add more braids.

I can't play any instruments and I don't have especially trained ears, but I'm always impressed with the sound quality at sukekiyo shows as well. I can cearly hear all instruments and they create this amazing harmony together. And I also enjoy the fact that band members use different instruments for some songs (like aftermath). I could hear the wonderful bass promised by Yuchi, Mika's powerful drums, utA's guitar, especially during solos, Takumi's piano and guitars. And Kyo's voice. 🖤

For ただ、まだ、私。・tada, mada, watashi. there was no visualisation on the screen, so it looked like there was no screen besides a bit of a smoke by the floor. There was light coming from the back of the stage and very lightly the band members silhouettes appeared above the stage. And because of this the stage appeared to be very deep.

I liked the flow of the last part of the setlist, it didn't feel as gut wrenching as the first night.

The end credits started aready during Margaret and Kyo calmly left as soon as the song ended. The rest of the band followed as fans started to give applause.

I'm so curious what we will see in Tokyo. Only one more performance left.

adhd kutner

cannot ever be completely still and thus is always fidgeting with something in his hands (see: stethoscope in canon, but also: pens, stress balls, hair ties, rubber bands, expo marker, anything he can find in the outer office while they’re doing a ddx)

bad habit of interrupting people to finish their sentences for them or to say what he needs to say before he forgets it. if you’re talking to him, his brain is already three steps ahead of whatever you’re saying. he tries really hard to not interrupt during ddxes and when talking to patients and sometimes it takes a lot of energy

Long timeline below the cut:

c. 2009-2011: get into vocaloid because a high schooler TA at art camp plays World Is Mine and a few other classics, and i think it's just the coolest thing ever.

c 2012-2013: still really into vocaloid. it's my special interest. finding myself enjoying electronic stuff but not knowing anything about genres. going on youtube deep dives, listening to anything i can find reuploaded off niconico. i have a bookmark folder from around this time with a good hundred or so songs in it lol

2013-2014: introduced to things like wolfgun, pendulum, and more experimental electronic like osamu sato by tumblr mutuals. some of my mutuals make their own music. they and quite a few others i follow are into lapfox but i never went out of my way to listen. the callout drops and i have no idea what anyone is talking about but i avoid the subject.

i want to get into making music. i had a tiny bit of background when i was in elementary school, but i still struggle to read sheet music, i don't know shit about playing the piano, and i don't know what programs to use. i watch Cakewalk videos in mystified awe, unable to read anything on it. i am very bad at searching for information online.

somehow, i get myself into using UTAU, mostly just converting USTs, doing a little tuning, and trying to edit in Audacity. I start using Famitracker. While I struggle with the interface, I finally for the first time understand music. The process of synthesizing a sound makes sense for me, and I want more.

2014-2015: i'm into 8tracks and i like, like fucking, electroswing and glitch hop and shit. i'm just listening to random dancey electronic. i don't know. i liked the hotline miami soundtrack

2015: old vocaloid producers are retiring and moving on, the slump is starting to hit. i get a new computer, i deleted my old tumblr coinciding with losing most of the people i spent time with on there, i focus more on school. but i'm on twitter and soon i've remade my tumblr.

i start making new friends. i get invited to play nekodancer with one of them, and get introduced to their friend (hi ein). i think he put on like a goreshit song or a touhou arrange or something but it just really cracked my brain open.

i get into touhou, i get into touhou arranges, and this is when i meet gabber and breakcore. i'm also pretty into lolicore but i have a hard time talking about it due to it being called lolicore (oh, how time changes a person)

2016: at this point, hardcore is my special interest. i'm collecting things in youtube playlists, i'm getting really granular about genres. i'm slurping shit off of lolicore.ch

i want to make hardcore but i don't know how. i try doing things in sunvox to no avail. i try playing around in audacity to no avail. but the hardcore spirit is within me

additional events of note:

2016 or 2017: i don't know when or how i ended up finding out about 4lung, probably a twitter mutual. i like her stuff and she puts out a lot of it. the fanbase is friendly.

if you ask, 4lung will send you a pastebin with a link to FL studio, sample packs, and tips on getting started making breakcore. so i get FL studio. i'm still busy at school, but i make some practice tracks for assignments.

2017: i make the first E-R0 MAID.f track.

and then i just kept going. my music-related special interests wax and wane with my ability to focus on them compared to other things going on in my life but they never really fade completely. in early 2023 i started djing so that's brought it back.

this makes you sport a small smile as you love to see him happy. so happy in fact, because he gets to go on dates with you. his crush-- the one that makes his heart pound from just your presence alone. he fell in love with you at first sight.

the next morning, you stir in your slumber as you feel a pair of lips kiss you from behind. jisung smiles softly into the crook of your neck when he realized you were finally up.

"morning sleepyhead. what did you dream about?" voice muffled a bit. you shiver a bit when he lifts his head a bit to kiss you up to your lobe. you giggle quietly.

he uses his hand to softly grip your chin to face him, your eyes flick to his lips slowly. you smile up at him, he has a look of confusion and adoration as he scrunches his eyebrows.

you bring your hand up to his head as you stare into his brown eyes, you decide to close the gap between you.

the kiss was sudden, but it was filled with nothing but love. as soon as you connected your lips onto his, he immediately turns into putty in your hands, eyes flutter shut.

you giggle once again into the kiss, both hands grab his head as you pull him closer. he uses his to catch himself as he hovers over you.

"i don't exactly remember but i think we were cloud-gazing?" it came out more of a question than an answer. he hums a response, turning to get off of the bed.

"ooh, cloud gazing sounds like another good date idea! we can maybe go camping for a bit," he says excitedly.

you turn to him once more, "camping sounds like fun,"

you arrive at your local coffee house, hand in hand. there was a long line but it didn't matter because you had jisung on your side. he would say a lot of random things to keep you laughing and smiling.

when it came to your turn in line, you ordered your usual with a small slice of cake and jisung ordered an iced americano.

waiting for your drinks to be made, you did a quick scan of the cafe. it was very peaceful, you thought. the lighting made it seem so homey, so lively. students of all ages had either laptops or friends to chat with or books to read in peace.

you felt an arm wrap around you, pulling you out of your thoughts. "whatcha thinking about over there?" jisung whispers to you, soft enough to where only you can hear. "nothing," you mumble. you kiss him on the cheek.

you find a seat in the back corner of the cafe, near the window. just listening to the birds chirp, the people talking, cars running. it felt nice. you drift off to the daydream world.

"order for jisung?" the barista yelled out.

jisung had arrived with the drinks. plopping them down near you, startling you a bit. you blink rapidly, calming down your breathing and heartbeat.

"off to dreamland again?" he chuckles. you nod, taking a sip of your drink. "thank you for the drinks, by the way," you kiss him on the cheek once more.

"the world is such a wonderful place," you whisper. "and i have a wonderful boyfriend by my side," you smile warmly at him.
