Okay, so, we know that Spock said his name was unpronounceable, but then we find out it’s just S’chn T’Gai.

The Doctor also claims that their name is unpronounceable, so my theory is that the Doctor and Spock have the exact same name.

Calling it now: SNW is gonna have Spock hit a wall following his exploration of his human side, combined with his emotional upheaval ever since fighting the gorn with extreme violence back in s1e9.

He’s gonna have some sort of dramatic personal crisis and then recommit to the Vulcan way—including getting back with T’Pring , who as a literal expert in bringing Vulcans back to the path of logic, will help settle him but they’ll be cold with one another and assume his human sex drive means he probably won’t go through pon farr so they can remain distant backup bondmates with minimal contact while pursuing their own interests.

Meanwhile, Captain Pike will save the cadets and become maimed and gravely injured as he knows is coming. This will further upset Spock, who will be unable to be there to support him, as Number One will insist he remain on duty on the Enterprise, because one of them has to.

Using his reestablished Vulcan metal disciplines to bury his sadness, Spock will get all subdued and private again with the crew.

And that will be the status quo when James T. Kirk becomes Captain of the Enterprise…

Chris looked up at the couple, who were dressed as Una and himself for Halloween. He felt the irony of them standing there publicly announcing their love. When he and Una were far from announcing their love to the crew or the federation.

Star Trek: Strange New World s2 ep4

yeah this is continuing the hot streak so far. it was a great time, and a much needed breather from the cerebral and high-concept stuff from last week.

revisiting Rigel VII wasn't something I ever expected snw to do but here I am feeling very grateful that they did. it wasn't a novel concept to have a landing party lose their memory on a mission and have to sort through it, but there's something about this episode's take that just feels fresh. and the idea of Pike's mistake coming back and just biting him in the ass with this Zac guy feels very nuTrek, but in the best way.

one thing I can say for sure is that the actors and their performances carry this episode as high as it is. without this cast of incredibly talented people giving their all for the silly space show, I don't think this one would be nearly as enjoyable. Mount, Chong, and Olusanmokun are all great to watch with amnesia. Peck, Gooding, and Romijn are all great, and the standout for sure is Melissa Navia and her chance to really work Ortegas in a new way. she was spectacular, hilarious, and i'm desperate to see her get her landing party.

if this was the Ortegas episode, it was disappointing, but i don't think it was. the clip of the shuttle above the forest in the trailers seems much more likely to be it and if we're due for even more Ortegas, i'm definitely taking everything i can get.

and Pike's little thing with Batel just doesn't ring as fulfilling as the other romantic pairings. i think that's intentional, and there may be a point in this being a failed relationship despite trying to make it work. either way, Pike can absolutely stand on his own without a romance and i'd prefer if he remained the father in the station wagon.

overall, very low-risk fun with lots of humor and a bonus Pike losing his shit scene. thumbs up.

you know, I expected La'an to pull out his file to check on Kirk (since we know she did read his personnel file before) but her actually calling him and making him aware of her own existence, feels a lot stronger, but also it might be hinting at a possible future development (let me dream okay lol)

looking at just his photo would feel kind of final, but her talking to him just doesn't. It opens possibilities because Kirk now knows her.

thinking about Una doing Chris' eyebrows in his bathroom one day early on in their command of the enterprise (Una's doing it because she's been doing it since they were Ensigns and Chris can admit they look way better when she does it) and his yeoman catching them and that story running through wildfire all across the ship...like it becomes a new bingo square for the lower decks to complement on the Captains on his brow game

and eventually a couple of ensigns...giggly after a drink (in that divine bar onboard) get the courage to approach Una and ask if she'd be willing to do theirs one day...and Una takes both Chris' advice to connect with the crew more and also pity on one of the women whose friend has really messed her brows up...and so Una ends up bonding with the crew through eyebrow threading and nail painting.

Since Spock is still alive when Lower Decks takes place, I can definitely see Boimler and Mariner (especially Boimler) going to track him down.

Boimler: Mr. Spock! Mr. Spock! Sir! Remember me!? Remember us!? We came from the future! You smiled at me so creepily!

Mariner: You were so hot when you were our age!

Spock: 🤨

Boimler: Mariner, why’d you say that? You probably offended him!

Mariner: I meant it as a compliment!

Spock: Yes, I remember you two and your chaos.

I adore the crack-y Trek episodes. I love them because they always give it 110% but also while comedic and bizarre it usually says something about the characters.

(This is why I think SNW's The Elysian Kingdom didn't really work for me on two fronts, I didn't think they went far enough in the concept and didn't really tell me anything about the characters).

One of the few times the Voyager crew gets to be in an over-the-top scenario where they get to keep their memories -- Voyager crew's memories get erased and overwritten a lot. No wonder Seven made her own psychological assessment in season 2 of Picard-- is Bride of Chaotica.

As much as Janeway had to be dragged to the role of Arachnia, Janeway took to the role of a 1930s star like a fish to water:

The production crew was BRILLIANT this episode:

And then Janeway asked if she could sit on Chaotica's throne:

"Somehow I feel comfortable here."

LOL. Janeway.

She was a theater kid for sure. Kate Mulgrew must have enjoyed this episode a LOT.

And then Janeway pauses, and possibly wonders what that says about her. It's the look of, 'I hope this didn't awaken anything in me.'

Too late!

(It says you're a queen).

I love how Janeway actually loved playing an over-the-top villain.

And then she does this thing where she gives the wire of the mic a whipping flourish.

Calmly watches as Chaotica is electrocuted to death.

And takes a moment to gloat over his body, even telling Chakotay to wait before shutting down the holodeck. LOL. It's the most she's enjoyed herself, and to think earlier she was chiding Tom for enjoying this kind of entertainment.

Tom enjoys playing the hero but Janeway just gets to indulge this delicious side of her.

Remember when I said Janeway has no Mirror equivalent? I love her..

And then when her 'rescue' party arrives they find her just looking over Chaotica.

Yes, yes you are the queen!

I think Janeway just learned, that if Tom likes playing the swashbuckling hero, Janewa loves playing the over-the-top villain. This is the most Janeway's enjoyed herself without being brainwashed into forgetting she's Voyager's Captain.

Seriously, I love Janeway. She's the most Extra. And she's learned to embrace the Extra.
