snw doesn't understand that the 60s was a dark hole we clawed ourselves out of. it actually has to be worse and darker and have more inappropriate workplace behaviour if you want it to have consistency with tos. you can't give them something better than tos. it destroys the lore. this is why nobody likes snw. it's not even that bad, it just refuses to follow the in-universe structure and rules. and not in a cool way like ld does

spirk in snw thoughts
after watching the garashir in ld episode then reading tawny newsome's thoughts on it, this is what i think they should do with spirk in snw. (i mean other than show the beginnings of their friendship, which i think is a given regardless). I think they should just confirm them as bi/pan and leave it at that. I think that would enhance both the platonic and romantic meaning of spirk, while allowing people with attachment to one reading or another to not have their interpretation nullified, but still not be cowardly. This is what i mean. Right now, i think there are a lot of people who see spirk as "just friends" or "they have to be friends because they can't be a couple." But imagine if both characters are queer and you see them as platonic. They aren't "just friends" -- they choose friendship as the most important relationship in their lives. They didn't settle for this, to them, a vulcan who was raised to shun friendship and a human who didn't form strong bonds of kinship bc he is constantly on the move b/c of space + ambition, this relationship is the most important, across time and space, and even though they could have been a married couple, this interaction transcends that. (and it isn't that two straight dudes can't have that, but that it would confirm that this is a deliberate choice. it isn't because the right lady never crossed their paths, they are deliberately in a queerplatonic relationship -- they might even be sexual with other people, but they always come back to this). But it also would make the romantic reading completely valid without changing anything. All the touches, glances, proximity that in any m/f couple would by default be interpreted as romantic (see riker/troi) would not be brushed off as "well it cannot be romantic because they are both men." now i, an enlightened media watcher, always assume any character could be gay straight bi etc until told otherwise, there are a lot of people who need to be told this. Its would be a completely ordinary interpretation of the events of screen with this addition. Its not shippers making everything gay. They are just queer people who might have had a sexual relationship because they acted like people who do. We don't know that they did, but you are free to draw your own conclusions. Anyway that is my dream for all of this -- its a prequel so i never expected them to be together, but if they like sneak in kirk going on a date with a guy at some point or something, then nobody can be like "friends is all they COULD be" instead of "this relationship could be anything and everything they wanted it to be".

This is why starfleet bans high-ranking officers from using whatever version of tik-tok the federation has.

Paul Wesley gets a lot of shit for not looking much like Shatner’s Kirk (even though he’s got the mannerisms down perfectly), which seems unfair considering he looks exactly like TAS Kirk

An episode of Star Trek where Spock becomes "100% human" could have been good. As long as you remember the difference between biology and culture. A Spock who has suddenly became human would still have grown up Vulcan and would still follow their practices. He would not suddenly be emotional and he would not be eating meat.
But there are a lot of differences between Vulcans and humans that you could focus on! He could have trouble adapting to how much weaker his body is. Spock rushing into dangerous situations because he is the toughest is so common so now you could have him do that but then be like oh fuck. You could have him not realizing that he need to drink, eat and sleep more and be driving his body to the breaking point. The fact that he suddenly has sweat glands could be super unpleasant and he could overheat. I think he should definitely struggle with no longer being telepathic. Maybe it makes it harder for him to understand other people or maybe it makes it harder for him to understand his own thoughts. There could be stuff about how his eyesight is worse and he is constantly squinting and messing up colors.
There is literally so much that could be done with this concept and I don't think that it is an inherently bad one. I just don't think the way to do it is to make it so Spock is a complete different person who has no idea how Vulcans work (and needs to be taught what Vulcans are like???) and no control over his emotions. And I definitely don't think it is the right call to make the crew like Spock more when he is human.
Like wise an episode about how the rest of the crew are suddenly Vulcan could be good but it looks like it will fall into the same trap. A human who just suddenly turned into a Vulcan would not have the cultural history and upbringing to act like the Vulcans we normally see. They would not know how to control their emotions or telepathy. They would still be acting like humans. If anything a human turned Vulcan should be incredibly destructive.

Human half this, Vulcan half that. Spock actually takes after both of his parents by being unhinged (Amanda) and a bitch (Sarek)
