FOR THE BLORBO BINGO: sloth from 2003, and gluttony (can i suggest 2? is that okay?)

It is absolutely ok!! There are no rules here at number1greedlingfan (our society is crumbling). I've included explanations for my choices under the cut

This is my opinion but Sloth in 03 just... didn't hit right? I know what kind of character the writers wanted her to be (and for some viewers, she was that!) but it felt like she wasn't around enough for that to come together or feel meaningful (hence, the "Too little screentime" choice). Sloth was really cool conceptually but I think the emotional deeper aspects of her character were just too little too late and overshadowed by other plot developments.

Gluttony I have no issue with. Conceptually he is cool as fuck (being a failed gate) and he serves his purpose in the narrative. Imo though I felt nothing for him until he was an active threat or until he died, which I think was kind of the point of his character. What Pride did was fucked up enough to make me pity him for a minute, but I didn't get the same "It's not fair" urge that I got with other character deaths in the show. So yeah, as a blorbo I think Gluttony would ultimately be kind of boring to think about.

I am so compelled and inspired by the way the writers explored the concept of sloth through Trisha, through the elrics and through the narrative. 2003 will always have my heart

yall, i just kept remembering that quote of sloth rejecting motherhood. sloth is a homunculus constructed in the image of a dead woman who cannot be separated from her motherhood, and to an extent, her femininity. unlike lust, sloth refuses the faint recollections of his old life, was afraid of it breaking him back into the shape of trisha. if dante wasn't around manipulating the homunculus, it would make perfect narrative sense for sloth to refuse anything that can identify him to trisha, to the point of finding happiness of being a man instead.

ep 38-42 of fma 03 has very obvious budget and time issues to the point of silliness at times and yet it might be one of the strongest and thematically focused span of anime episodes ive seen since fucking utena

rewatching fmab with a friend and they only just then realized that hohenheim and paracelsus are based on the Same fucking guy. anyways i found that hilarious and decided to draw the ugly motherfucker (03 hohenheim) as a broom and it spiraled from there

I was just about to send you an ask about your wips!

SO I've probably talked about this before, but it's my working title for an 03 Trisha/Sloth character study which is largely about the trap of growing up in a society that tells you your worth is in being a wife and a mother, especially when you don't have role models of people doing things differently. So you're young and you meet this much older man who takes an interest in you and you're (again) young and inexperienced and he's much more loving than your parents so you leave everything behind for him and bear him two children closely together and one day? He goes to buy milk and never comes back /j

And so you realise with growing resentment that all those fantasies were a fallacy and you've been sold a dream under false pretenses and you don't even have your own sense of who you are outside of being a mother and a wife because guess what? You never got a chance to develop it! And now you're a single mom to two children in a rural town where whispers are louder than screams.

And then you die and then you wake up and you are in pain and a voice tells you everything you've been quietly thinking, about how you're an abomination and you should hate those who have created you, and now you have the chance to reject your old life and your children in order to save yourself from the previous life and trap that contributed to your death

and it's based on a lyric from Would've, Could've, Should've by Taylor Swift because "memories feel like weapons" when Sloth is at war with her memories and her old self...
