level1: (frenemy dynamic):

they're frenemies. dust doesn't really LIKE them but appreciates their dedication to at least own up to their choices and face this regret instead of resetting. he also hates them for it because they're depriving him of seeing his brother again. both hate them and KIND of care.

they do change, but not in a way that feels disingenuous. they're still here to fight him. but not as an enemy. just as a playmate or rival. they don't need his mercy or forgiveness. just his company. redefining boundaries and the dynamic itself to just sparring.

you wanna get stronger to face me? fight for it! oh shit-are you ok? do you need healing items dude? hold on I'll get something.

but they never actually hurt him. baby steps. they do care. they just want to earn the chance. they'll wait for him to give them the chance. they don't want to force anything on him anymore.

level2(letting go):

realistically this would be one of the best actions to do in abusive relationships no matter how hard it is to rip the band-aid off or go against your attachment issues. they leave cuz they don't wanna hurt him.

but then that'll leave him all alone in the underground.

level 3 (feigning ignorance):

the angst levels jump on this one. the whole taking accountability thing kinda drops to zero here with the player self deleting the memory of their in world image, letting sans struggle with killing a person who doesn't remember anything they did. is that person even the same? our choices make up who we are but if one never made those choices or didn't remember would that even be the same?

or maybe a different vessel. a different account. a different identity. you're a petty liar =)

a cheap way out but it has a 60 percent chance of working. a tiny bit manipulative.

level 4 (twisted mind):

he's a fictional character why bother humoring his whims? you'll just alter his preferences and rebuild him from scratch. one that doesn't hate you. one that'd like you.

maybe live a double life? kill one and then cuddle with the other who remembers nothing. self indulgence can be nice when you don't treat the people as people and more like objects.

if it fails? try again. again and again till one attempt works.

this is where player would start becoming kinda irredeemable... and a manipulative control freak.

level 5 (oh shit):

this one's worse than all of them. you don't even bother making him like you back and just force everything you want. consent? he's a FICTIONAL character for god's sake, why even ask when you can just take what's yours?

he's just an object of entertainment to you.

this one might be actually triggering cuz some real people are just this disgusting too.

it's just different levels of apathy.

he's more likely to be more open to player the more genuine their actions are. if you wanna talk to him on HIS level? he might give you a shot. if not? you'll either accept that rejection or take it with a undeserved circumference.

hi! hope you’re having a good day/night. wondering if you had any tip for achieving phosphorescence/fluorescence with colored pencils? i’ve been getting back into drawing after a long art block and wanted to draw some glow in the dark toys but i’ve been struggling to give a good actual green glow on a dark background. thought i’d ask since you’re incredible with colored pencil!

oh prismacolor neon colored pencils are perfect for this, they only have 3 colors (orange, yellow, and pink) but i think this is the closest thing to what ur describing that ive used in my own art

some of these are more subdued than others, i blend the neon color and a regular color (the neon pencils also have harder lead so are good for blending with) it creates this really nice underglow that i cant achieve with the regular colors. the more subtle ones have less of the neon color blended in and the brighter ones have more. the neon colors are really bright and vibrant it surprised me the first time i used one. my scanner does not pick up neon colors tho (idk if all scanners are like that) so I have to photograph the art instead whenever i use neon colors

im sure other brands have neon colors u can do this with (and other mediums too) this is just what i do

There’s this stereotype that shiny pokemon are fussy and pampered and generally weaker bc they’re rather babied and adored. And while I understand where that assumption comes from (I’ve seen how some of you guys treat your shinies don’t even lie). I feel like people forget why most shinies are so incredibly rare.

Like, depending on their coloration it wildly decreases their survival rate in the wild. There’s gonna be a difference in living as a blue Vaporeon or a bright pink one, y’know? Makes them struggle to blend in with their environments which, depending on if they’re carnivorous, can make hunting harder, sometimes the pokemon gets rejected from their packs/herds/flocks, they can struggle to get a mate, and makes them an easy target for predators.

So like when you see a shiny in the wild you gotta just stand back and bask in the rarity of it not just for being rare genetically, but the sheer amount of willpower and strength (or luck) that its had to make it this far. That’s pretty badass.

Even as a kid I knew there was something just wrong about A Bad Case of Stripes

It gave me a weird feeling as a kid too, and I think it's a combination of the illustration style and the subject matter.

David Shannon has such a particular, oil painting esque style. Most of his illustrations are very cartoony, like his iconic No David books:

Like look at that! The features and proportions are exaggerated! Full of bright colors! Reminiscent of something a kid might draw.

But then there's A Bad Case of Stripes. In this book Shannon seems to lean much more into the realm of surrealism, and the result is...

...uncanny. I mean look at those faces!!! Nothing like the caricature bulbous head of little David. These guys look like they crawled out of a Renaissance painting! Look at the shading!!! It looks like you could reach out and touch those little fuzzy blue pompoms! Which brings me to my next point...

A Bad Case of Stripes is just... kid-friendly body horror. There's no gore in it, but what this girl goes through is something straight out of a fever induced nightmare.

Just like those creepy realistic renders of what Patrick Star or Homer Simpson would look like in real life (remember those?) It's the realism, the 3d look, the impeccable shading that makes Stripes so damn creepy. In a more cartoonish style, Stripes probably would've been a wacky little kids book. But because of how realistic the illustrations are...

...We wound up with the suppressed birthplace of body horror phobias for generations to come.
