dating games revolves around playing around the characters preferences and actively encourages you to play a role rather than rewarding you for your honesty or individuality there's a right and wrong choice. at the same time dating games have a tendency to... lean into and bend to the whims of the player.

guess what bitch that's canon in world. and you're not the only siren that can do that shit!

much like how you can raise a person's "favor" nightmare and dream and other soul influencing monsters can make YOU fall for them too with it without your consent.

it's a double edged sword and you completing the favor to 100 doesn't always guarantee your safety. specially with killer.

as for honestly? readers true power lies in acting and playing the perfect role. though sometimes even if it's to their detriment they will break character and talk about things they should not be aware of like resets or how nightmare became like this.

and these guys KNOW they're in a dating game and for them it's more like a game of mentally surviving either nightmares corruption, their own LV and sins or readers whispers being pulled in so many directions each with an agenda.

the dates will fool you will backstab you. will even let their bar fill up just to flank it back to 50 and kick you while you're down because in a self aware dating game you cannot trust ANYONE not even yourself.

they leave signs and notes everywhere to know who's influence they're under.

while I say date it's more like charm. sedate. subdue. your determination has the power to bend wills but you seek warmth in a place you wished you could be a part of.

or maybe you're here to cause chaos.

or maybe despite everything despite ALL of this? you refuse to tell a single lie. you come clean from the get go. and face their glares their hatred for your godlike kin.

who knows?

anyways I like the option of reader being aromantic and asexual too but the charm level still goes up if they say the "right" option.

and these flees know they know but they can't tell WHO'S pulling the strings because THEY ALL HAVE Different CHARM powers.

dust has sleep and numbness. apathy. around him you feel tired and gloomy like nothing matters.

killer has joy and excitement. agitation. play you like how someone played him. he's good at improvisation too if you throw something new at him.

horror can exploit your hunger and fear and need for safety. you will feel warmth before your body feels cold on the ground.

nightmare your desire to belong. your self hatred your crimes your anger. everything you hate about the world. he can loosen or intensify any little impulse you have. his mastery of this power outmatches all of the bad sanses combined.

dream is the same. in fact I'd argue dream is even easier to fall into. his main power is from escapism. he's well intentioned but still dangerous. (pretend this is yellow ok)

error is uhm... he can literally edit your stats for better or worse. he can make you his puppet instantly or unwind the strings tied to your soul. depends what you offer him and if he personally likes you. spoiler alert he likes undernovela and drama. even so he will question you if you picked the choices because it raises his charm or it's your opinion. he WILL test you. if you make all answers correct hell kill you or puppet you. and his questions change. he knows you have the power to make a "guide" so his answers and stats are randomized. he's a bitch to deal with but if you win his trust and NOT his charm you're probably have a very good ally.

lust can seduce you too but he won't. he's a gentleman and a sweetheart. he's mostly just there looking out for you to make sure you don't get yourself too tangled up in everyone's heartstrings. he's also one of the few who actually doesn't have a charm bar!

ink has a charm bar but it fills up not by you but by himself. he himself dictates his desires. and his emotion paint is also effective against others. he can make others sad angry happy or any mix of his vials. though they only last a second giving him enough time to disappear in a smoke bomb.

charm bars and souls have a correlation but not causation. one doesn't need a soul to have a charm bar and one doesn't need a charm bar to have a soul. but both affect the state of each other.

in killers case his charm bar shifts into a clover like state with four splits going from white to bloodred.

dusts LV intake can decrease his charm level as his power is apathy based.

horrors power is fueled by his own starvation so the poor guy has to actively deprive himself of food to grow his power. it also makes him more vulnerable to other influences. he's a glass Canon type of soul whisperer. deals a heavy blow a takes high damage.

nightmares soul is... the exception. it'll continue to persist regardless. so is dreams. their souls can only be affected by their respective elements.

errors soul is bugged but he will be less inclined to crash if he's completely charmed because his unstable code has latched onto a form of stability. the odds of that happening is low unless he lets his guard down around you.

ink doesn't have a soul.

lust has a soul but no charm. why does he have no charm bar? because his soul already had the feature built in. it was not a seperate mechanic. if you win his soul you genuinely win him. but doing that is even more difficult. he's not very guarded but out of everyone he appreciates honestly above else. he wants to know you. meet the real you. and if you show him that vulnerability he'll also do the same. you won't get a love ending with him but he'll always be there if you need to talk or anything. be it as friends or something else.

do not. let your charm reach 100 for any of them. you'll be their pawn.

make them your pawn first to get rid of competition...

or if you have the balls just keep them all at 50 percent and yourself at 20. though you'd probably need to learn a bit of killers mind tricking talents. he's good at getting past restrictions due to his unnatural soul fluctuations. he can shake off dust and horror and even dreams will but nightmare is a paradox he can't face.

so maybe you'll need some minimal contact to build up resistance.

anyways if you're here I HOPE you read death is the only ending for the villainess because holy fuck I was not expecting that twist. for the game mechanic to actually be part of the magic system. love it when fiction does that. be it resets in Undertale or favorbility in daring games.

i used to be so good at writing strong, thoroughly-researched, thoroughly-edited essays.

as a kid in hs, my teacher literally came up to me, holding my 40 page essay on the intersection of the European witch hunts and capitalism/exploitation/gender roles (it was supposed to be 7 pages...whoops) and went like "this is literally a master's-degree level thesis. what are you doing?? you could literally use this as your final dissertation in a master's program, what the fuck."

NOW??? NOW?? you'd think I'd be oh so skilled. but alas. i can barely piece together two ideas. adhd skill-regression is so so real. im SOBBING

for your consideration: In undertale red and yellow the reason Chara and Clover follow you around is due to your determination reviving them what if a version of dust who stopped his human for good had to put up with those two?

okay it’s been a few hours. not like you can tell lamo. I don’t know much about UTR&Y, so think of all this rambling as UTR&Y inspired.

I can image C&C wouldn’t love the Player doing a Dusttale, lol. Maybe they got used to it, though, considering the Player would’ve had to have done hundreds if not thousands of No Mercy runs to get Dusttale even started. They both probably would’ve felt helpless…but with Sans fighting back, they would’ve started to hope again.

And then Sans would’ve done a Dusttale, leaving the Underground empty either way. It’s not like he can Reset, ya know. But if the Player really had given up enough for C&C to essentially transfer over to Sans, then wouldn’t that mean he had the most determination in the Underground currently?

I could go into a whole separate tangent about how permanently stopping the Player would work. So that will be this paragraph. The Player would had to have be unable to access their game, permanently. Forever. So let’s just go with Frisk, their vessel into that world, being deleted. Easiest and simplest way to get that done. Don’t ask me how that happened, let’s just say it was a glitch, just like how Sans got glitched with remembering the Resets.

Anyways, Sans now has two very traumatized ghost children haunting him. Not to mention his own trauma being stacked on top. But now that he’s the most determined, he can Reset. What about Flowey? 1) Sans is just more determined than him, 2) Flowey also got deleted, 3) Sans is just glitched enough or something that he’s able to Reset even without having the most DT. Let’s go with option 1 for this.

C&C would want Sans to Reset. He’d probably be hesitant at first, and definitely wouldn’t trust either of the ghost children(he’d also think his schizophrenia is acting up ngl), but I think he would cave in eventually. Since if he can save all his friends, why wouldn’t he? It’s why he did all of that Dusttale in the first place. So, he would Reset, and would likely be taken right back to when Frisk should’ve fell.

But C&C are with him. And eventually, after going through the motions and meeting with Toriel, he’d learn that no human has fallen. C&C would probably rejoice that the Player is gone now, but Sans would have to wait like. A few weeks until he’s finally convinced that they’re gone since he is Paranoid.

During these weeks of uncertainty, Sans would desperately try to Act Normal. He would slip up. His friends would catch on. C&C are constantly yapping in his non-existent ears, not to mention his unmedicated schizophrenia certainly isn’t helping.

Now, onto more C&C focused stuff. Generally, most of the above could have C&C taken out and still work, so uh, I need to make them important to the plot now.

They both would be so paranoid themselves, about other humans that could fall down. Chara has more a fear than hatred response, especially with how easily the Player bypassed any consequences Chara could’ve dealt them. Chara would be paranoid about Clover, too. They’re Justice, but are they? Are they really Just? Can any human—can ANYONE have a true sense of Justice? Look at Sans, look at how far he had fallen. Justice is a fickle thing, and Chara can place no trust in someone as “fickle” as Clover.

Clover…idk their actual personality. So I’m balling y’all. Clover would want to help everyone(so would Chara, but they…kinda don’t have hope that the monsters can be freed or should be freed, even). They themselves are struggling to hold onto their own sense of Justice, struggling to keep believing that Justice is even real…and they would be desperate. And they would aim that desperation at Sans. They know he was Just, and that he still has some Justice in him, he has to have some. Beyond all that Determination—beyond all that LOVE…he’s a good person. He just has to try. They all can.

C&C would constantly but heads over what to do, the hopeful and the hopeless, and Sans would have to deal with that as he himself struggles on what to do next. On how to be a functioning person again. For better or for worse, Sans is not alone in this.

most recent windows 11 update is wiping SSDs

there's been multiple reports of people's computers not booting properly after the windows 11 24H2 KB5063878 update due to it essentially wiping the hard drives (specifically SSDs) on computers and laptops. users have reported their SSDs aren't able to be read/recognized and unable to be seen in bios settings either.

it's safe to assume all SSDs can be potentially affected by this update, so if you haven't updated yet turn off autoupdates

the bug caused by this update is seemingly triggered by installing/moving/deleting large files (50+ gb), which as simmers is what a lot of us do very pften

if you're unsure what windows version you currently have:

go to settings > system > about (at they very bottom) > and scroll down to see the current OS version

if you do currently have windows 11 24H2:

in settings, click 'Windows update' > 'Update history' > and under 'Quality Updates' check to see if the KB5063878 update is in the list of recently installed updates

don't panic, you can uninstall this update!

while in 'Update History', scroll to the very bottom and click 'Uninstall updates', and click 'Uninstall' for 'Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5063878)'

from there, give it some time to remove the update and after pause updates for as long as possible (5 weeks is the longest i think), but it will force an update if there's a big/official update for the fix

if you've already been affected and your computer is not starting or giving errors regarding your hard drive, i recommend visiting small pc repair shops to try data recovery as some have reported placing their SSD in an enclosure seems to work to recover the data

hopefully this is helpful is any kind of way! friendly reminder to back up your data to an external drive routinely!
