Harry Potter x Skulduggery Pleasant

So seeing as it's been a while since I mentioned this AU, I'm just going to refresh it.

After Obsidian erases the universe, Valkyrie and the others are reborn and/or zapped into the Harry Potter Universe by Darquesse because she didn't want to die (plot relevant). Valkyrie ends up as Harry's twin, Fletcher is their neighbour and they three of them have to deal with their insufferable relatives for years.

Skulduggery ends up near Nefarian and the two of them end up living together because Skulduggery doesn't trust Nefarian and Nefarian doesn't have to pay for anything or share food.

Ghastly opens a shop in Hogsmeade, Scrapegrace, Thrasher and Clarabelle get jobs in the Hogs Head and Aberforth has to deal with them (he loves them really), Tanith does a lot of stuff, she gets bored easily. Anton works on the Midnight Bus, Saracen and Dexter are bounty hunters, China is the Hogwarts Librarian and is part of Petunia's tea group for Valkyrie's sake more than anything.

Oh, Skulduggery and Nefarian are teachers at Hogwarts and I have a surprise planned for Book 5 that I literally can not wait to write.

I've written Philosopher's Stone and I'm making my way through Chamber Of Secrets really slowly.

I put the TEFL on hold until things settled down a bit due to family things so I'm going back to that in a lil while hopefully!

But other than that I joined Get Your Words Out again this year at 75k words for the year & I'm also working on making my Obsidian vault contain more media I'm consuming!

10.) what’s one book you’d suggest every person should read?

I love Skulduggery Pleasant and if you're into things like Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl it's a good shout.

Non-fiction wise I'm torn between recommending The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson or The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo

My Thoughts on the Announcement of the SP Grimoire

First of all, I know it’s petty but it bothers me, he completely bastardised the term ‘grimoire’. A Grimoire is essentially a handwritten notebook for a witch where they write down spells and instructions to create certain magical objects. What he described with a summary of the plot of the books up to book 14 and with extra bits of information is what I would consider a world guide.

I assume it’s also gonna include a timeline of war events which is something he should have done years ago. At this point the timeline is so messed up that he’ll have to retcon the living hell out of it for it to make any sense of all.

Speaking of the war, phase 2 has robbed me of any desire to know more about it bc it’s gonna include Abyssinia and macaroni boi and Mev’s stupid ass death and no, just no. I would be way more on board with this if phase 2 just didn’t exist. 

There will probably be profiles of the most important characters in there, I assume? UGH then it’s gonna include Nef and his retconned adept discipline and I hate haTE HATE it so much that he retconned him to be an energy-thrower, this is bs.

With how badly phase 2 is selling this is so going to be on a budged. Prepare for a cheap cash grab y’all.

This is one of my most important grievances with it: Tom Percival is probably going to illustrate it considering that he’s still the official SP artist. 

For one, he traces. 

Second, he’s not that great an artist when it comes to realistic art. 

Third, while I would love official designs for like the Godkiller weapons so I don’t have to design them myself, design certainly is Percival’s weakest point. I don’t like most character designs he did (Nef is the only somewhat decent looking one, but Baron, Mev and Vile just look so bad) and I hate the canon design for the Sceptre of the Ancients even more (tho I’m not sure that’s his design, I think the first Sceptre design was done by the artist for the first American covers??). He is an illustrator and for proper weapon  and character designs you want a concept artist. For fucks sake, he couldn’t even draw Nefs red hand properly on the SoW cover. Oh for fucks sake, please, at the very least choose a different artist-!

Conclusion: An SP World Guide could be such an awesome thing, but bc of phase 2 and bc Landy (and most likely Percival) are involved in this I’m like hell fucking no to this.

If Landy really wanted to milk all three fans that are still left in this fandom I much rather he would like released the first draft of book 1 in full or release more deleted scenes or something like that.

Okay let‘s do it! For everyone who really doesn‘t want to read Skulduggery Pleasant Dead or Alive, here are some of the main things that happen in it:

- Tbh there are by now too many characters whose names start with a „C“ and I get super confused about this... anyway

- Valkyrie time travels with the help of a dude whose astral form lives in a glass

- she travels 72 years into the future and obv it‘s not a nice future

- everyone is opressed if they don‘t devote themselves to the Faceless Ones who have returned by the way! Humans are either killed, exploited or fed to the Gods! Apart from that everyone lives in ignorant „harmony“

- the Faceless Ones return through Alice Edgeley (surprise) who is as we know Valkyrie‘s sister and therefore also one of the descendants of the Gods

- Alice is then obviously one of the most powerful sorcerers in the world and chooses the name Malice for herself (not bad that one I gotta admit)

- The return of the Faceless Ones happened on some festival which has such a complicated name that I cannot for the life of me spell it now! Anyway there was an energy wave created by Creed that melts away everyone who is not a child of the Faceless Ones, then found Valkyrie who struggled so much that she turned into a harpy (...), then the wave continued and found Alice and she let the power in

- obviously Valkyrie goes back to the present and tries to avoid all this! Tbh she and Skulduggery are pretty useless throughout the book ^^

- The most useless bullshit side story of this book is the story of Coda Quell, a former Ripper who put down his armor and all. Derek Landy obviously felt the need to explain to us what Valkyrie was doing between The Dying of the Light and Skulduggery book 10 (what‘s it called again?) and it turns she was very very sad and working out with this Ripper who she then has a sort of relationship with but who cannot return the emotion. So they go their seperate ways.

- Coda then realizes he does love Valkyrie after all and wants to go and kill Militsa and Skulduggery which first of all built up some excitement bc I was ready for some drama ensuing here. Well forget about that. He immediately gets killed by Militsa as he attacks her which was of course not her intention and now she‘s traumatized and therefore BREAKS UP WITH VALKYRIE which makes me so mad you have no idea. Auger Darkly is traumatized from killing the King of the Darklands as well by the way. I think Auger is the only one I really had some sympathy with in this book. He stands up against his parents and actually wants to travel the world. Too bad. He gets involved in the final battle and gets stabbed with the Obsidian Blade. Apparently he had gotten a tiny shard of it into his eye during his fight against the King of the Darklands which now leads to him turning into Obsidian from head to toe as he gets stabbed. Apparently a single touch from him could now extinguish you now. Please do not ask me where he then disappeared to bc that was hella fucking weird and made NO NO sense so yes, he‘s gone.

- Who stabbed Auger you might wonder ^^ It was Cadaver Cain, the Skulduggery from the future who after losing Valkyrie to harpydom apparently remembered weird things he learned from the Lord of the Underworld or whatever and now is pretty evil and ruthless. He possesses Valkyrie‘s body when she travels into the future and follows her into the past. Where he then secretly wants to bring a world of the living dead to the entire planet. This is averted in the final battle by Skulduggery flying into a crack in the sky and talking to the Gods of Death. Do you hear me laughing? I think I lost my mind while reading this book bc everything was really too far-fetched, way way way too far!

- So. Valkyrie saves Alice in the end (who also gets possessed by her future self) by throwing herself onto the Activation Wave Source and consuming the entire power herself. This happens on the last pages. Afterwards she is absolutely fucking weird. Nothing big happens with her and we are left wary as hell. Then on the last page she meets Omen who is a little sad as you might imagine (he also fucked up his exams and all) and she is very weird to him. She tells him that the Faceless Ones are now living inside her, deciding when to come out. But some of them are apparently already there. She allows Omen to use her „aura vision“ and he sees these giant enormous Gods sitting in the sky and watching them and he starts crying and this is the end of the book.

- *big big sigh* So, a few others things:

- Dexter Vex is mentioned once, only for us to be told hat he dies in the future.

- China appears in the future and has apparently been tortured by Malice and is now stuck in a beautiful library without the ability to read which is supposed to be her punishment.

- When Valkyrie meets her in the future Malice breaks up their meeting and kills China before Valkyrie timetravels back to the present due to China giving her a clue in the last second.

- Tanith is part of a resistance group with Temper and a few others. In my opinion it makes no sense that Dexter wasn‘t a part of this group. After all Tanith promised Saracen to look after him. And it was a very Dexter-y group?? I don‘t get it.

- Kierre of the Unveiled has an appearance and is still in a relationship with Temper. She doesn‘t have one line though ^^

- China saves Tanith in the end, miraculously awoken from her coma (????)

- Valkyrie allows herself to cry in front of Militsa and be honest to her. Their breakup was in my opinion very unnecessary.

- it is mentioned multiple times that Skulduggery is not good for Valkyrie. His integrity was questioned a lot.

- some of the old Valkyrie-Slulduggery banter was back which was at times very amusing I gotta give that much to Landy ;) the best moment was in the end when Skulduggery imitates Creed‘s voice and keeps insulting Valkyrie, that was cute. Valkyrie smiled a bit more again in this books and even bests Skulduggery at one moment in one of their banters.

- at one point Valkyrie colors her hair blond and puts on a „girly“ dress

- oh and Darquesse was raised by Sebastian, is now the age Valkyrie was in book 9 and got captured by Commander Hoc.

- This is all I can think of right now. If you want to know more, please message me. :) I am fed up with this series now. I actually felt like vomitting just bc there were so many weird things going on that I wished I could have just not read them. I can‘t follow this story at all anymore and I‘m pissed about Dexter obviously. :(

Consider-Skulduggery Pleasant and Nevermoor crossover (in honor of book 14 coming out)- Mog's Wunder looks like Valkyrie Cain's lightening and Jupiter wears suits and hats like skulduggery's just completely neon. Mog also has the sass of Val and both like girls.

EXACTLY! this is EXACTLY what I have been saying but nobody in this fandom knows Skulduggery Pleasant and I have been shouting into the void for literal months.

Jupiter is Skulduggery Pleasant if Skulduggery properly cared about his teenage ward and was gay. (genuinely i just need Jupiter North to own a Bentley it is e s s e n t i a l for my mental health)

Mog is not quite as sassy as Val, but then I suppose that level of sass comes from nearly dying (and actually dying) the amount of times that Valkyrie has, so it’s understandable really. (jessica townsend if you are reading this i do NOT want Mog to die. that will NOT be good for my mental health.)

Do you think Unit 919 would get along with Omen and co? (side note: WHAT HAPPENED TO AUGER. I LIKED HIM. WHAT IS THIS ‘OBSIDIAN‘.) I think Axelia and Anah would get along really well, and Never would be Cadence’s new best friend or mortal enemy there is no in between. Morrigan and Omen would probably hit it off. The self-deprecating and terrible childhoods will be their first talking point and from there their friendship will blossom.

The Children of Thanos made their big screen debut in Avengers: Infinity War and had a role to play in the Avengers: No Surrender weekly event, but now the Cull Obsidian will take center stage in a new Marvel limited series titled Black Order, from writer Derek Landy (Skulduggery Pleasant) and artist Philip Tan (Uncanny X-Men, Iron Man). Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw, Black Dwarf and Black Swan are now under orders from the Grandmaster, who will look to dispatch the Black Order on a new mission, but they may discover someone even more ruthless in their way. “Springboarding from their last appearance in AVENGERS: NO SURRENDER, BLACK ORDER sets the flagitious five on a bloody, brutal, head-rolling take-no-prisoners tear that will pit them against the forces of an entire Galactic Empire–and where they’ll encounter some familiar Marvel faces as well as some bonkers new faces along the way!” Senior Vice-President and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort teased in a press release. When No Surrender began, the Black Order were the pawns of the Challenger, with Grandmaster utilizing the Lethal Legion. However, once events started to turn and the Challenger became the primary antagonist of the story, the Grandmaster slid into the shadows with the Black Order.

Dead man

China Sorrows was sat on one of her many tall thrones, surrounded by tapestry's of magic history, she was over looking Roarhaven through the glass window that stretched the length of the entirety of the skyscraper she was in. Outside, the rain poured and thrashed against the window and down on the balcony just outside. From here, China could see everything. Even in the dark she could watch as the rain fell into puddles and noticed how those puddles formed a small river that flowed freely down a back street. She glanced at a small child with a paper boat. The child was illuminated by a street light. He wore a yellow raincoat and chased his little boat down the little river, she watched and watched until he disappeared from sight. China saw as people struggled with umbrellas against the wind and decided to displace the air around them instead.

Her role as Supreme Mage was tiresome but she endured it nonetheless, enjoying the power that came with it. Yet she was thankful for the small moments, such as this, that she could spare, no matter how small they were, to admire all that she had achieved during her rein. She had created somewhere for sorcerers of all disciplines, even Vampires, to live. Before this there were only the secret communities like the one where Ghastly Bespoke had his tailor shop before he died all those years ago. But now, they hadn't the need to hide away in streets that were made to blend in and be ignored.

Suddenly, the great wooden door opened, a Cleaver stood there. The visor shielding the face beneath, and, though the Cleaver didn't speak any words, China knew why it was here. She nodded at it, her eyebrow raising a fraction but the rest of her features unchanging.

China stalked her way down towards the medical bay of the sanctuary, ignoring the adoring glances of those she passed as if they weren't even there at all. Her black velvet cape following her in her hurried movements, and her black stilettos echoing in the hallways.

As she neared she heard the voice of Milton Chiasmus, medical genius in the magic world. "The Supreme Mage has been notified. She should be here any second." He mentioned to Aporia Epistrophe, to which she, his student, nodded just as the Supreme Mage, herself, walked through the door to the entrance of the medical bay. "Ah, Supreme Mage, welcome. I hope you are well." Chiasmus looked to be thirty but was actually somewhere in his late three hundreds, whereas Epistrophe looked to be in her late twenties and that's because she was, indeed, in her late twenties.

"Where is he?" China had no time for small talk. She needed to see him for herself.

Chiasmus blinked a few times then opened his arm wide in the direction of a room that had two Cleavers stood guard on either side of the door. "Err, just this way." His English accent so prominent he could have just stepped out of a Jane Austen novel. He waited for her to walk in front. "We haven't yet been granted the time to examine him for ourselves." His hands rubbing together in his eagerness. "Miss Epistrophe and I had hoped to have the night on the matter. You are more than welcome to sit in."

China stopped abruptly and spun round to face him, both Chiasmus and Epistrophe almost walked into her. "Tell me, Chiasmus. Do you know why I hired you?" She found herself taking small glances at his huge moustache.

His head slightly tilted, unsure whether her question was rhetorical or not. When she didn't speak he assumed it was his turn to. "Erm, I would guess because..." She cut him off like he hadn't even been talking.

"I hired you in to come from England because I need the best. And I expect the best." Her tone calm and patronising. "You shouldn't need an entire evening to examine him."

"B-but this man is a magical wander." His words stuttered out of his thin lips. "He's the only one of his kind that we are aware of. This reaches past necromancy. We don't even know the proper title for his abilities." He stood his ground. "Not only that, we may not even possess the correct equipment to do this properly."

"I didn't come here for your excuses, Chiasmus. If I wanted excuses I would ask. I will give you the evening. But do not fail me. If we can understand this man or even replicate any of his abilities, we can create an army. Imagine thousands of his kind on our side. We would be unstoppable." Her gaze turned to his student for the first time. "And you."

"Y-yes, Supreme Mage?" She stuttered, her green eyes open wide, Epistrophe was obviously unnerved by her superior.

"I hope for your sake that you are a quick learner." China spun round on her heel and continued walking. A small smirk tugging at her lips that was barely noticeable, only China, herself, knew it was there.

Chiasmus and Epistrophe glanced at each other before hurrying after her, they didn't need another reason for China to be disappointed with their actions.

Once the three of them reached the room, the Cleaver to the right turned the handle and allowed them to walk into the bright room where three more Cleavers stood watch over the man, Knave Hallow. China made her way over to the metal slab his body laid on, her hand clutching at it, taking in the coolness it held. Her gaze not once leaving Hallow, his eyes were wide open, the capillaries within them had burst, but still nobody had bothered to close them. She noticed he was wearing an amulet around his neck and reached out for it, but a Cleaver moved and put its arm in front of her. She knew it meant no harm other than to advise her that it was unsafe for her to touch him, so she nodded at the Cleaver. Thankful for its advise but reassuring that she would be okay. With that, it moved its arm and returned back to a mutual position, unmoving, a reflection of the other two Cleavers in the room. China continued moving towards Hallow's neck and towards the silver amulet. She admired the way it shone in the light and held a black obsidian stone in its centre. China noticed how the rope had torn at his skin and ripped his flesh. Bruised and bloodied was an understatement. She stopped moving when Chiasmus spoke.

"The cause of death is suspected suicide." He chimed in. "Although, nobody is sure of the circumstances." He was beginning to annoy her.

"Thanks for the input." Sarcasm sounding in her as she rolled her eyes. However, Chiasmus wasn't wrong. There wasn't much that China found difficult to understand but she was having difficulty figuring out why Hallow would commit suicide. Just hours before his death he was fighting Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain. "Who found his body?"

She asked.

"We don't know, Supreme Mage. Only Skulduggery Pleasant knows of that information." China glared at him so he questioned his student for back up. "I-Isn't that right, Epistrophe?" He nudged her arm.

"Y-yes, it is correct, Chiasmus." She smiled at China and so did her mentor.

China ignored them and her fingers found the amulet and she was stroking the obsidian with her thumb. Then suddenly her fingers began to tingle, at first it was so feint that she barely noticed. But then it intensified and the Supreme Mage noticed her hand shaking so she released her grip, scowling at her hand, gripping her wrist with her other hand. She ignored it and motioned at the doctors to begin their work.

They performed scan after scan and test after test. They were just about to cut him open, but, just like someone had turned on a light, the amulets stone let out a beacon of light which burnt a hole straight through one of the Cleavers chests. Chiasmus and Epistrophe screamed as they ran out of the room, the light hitting where they once stood.

A Cleaver looked towards China unsure of what to do and what the enemy was, the other ran for her to get her to leave the room, however, the light burnt a hole straight through its head. The two Cleavers who stood guard on the outside burst through the door, Scythes in hand. One of them tried to usher China out. The other pirouetted dodging the light which hit the Cleaver trying to help China. The only two remaining Cleavers dodged the light numerous times and eventually went to hit the amulet with their scythe until the light killed them too.

The Supreme Mage was the only one left in the room. But the light had stopped. She stood still, she didn't even blink. Slowly, China rolled back the sleeve of her cloak and went to activate one of the sigils on her forearm until the obsidian released a cloud of black smoke hurtling towards her face. It ambushed her. The force of it knocked her onto the ground. She fought back as the shadows entered her mouth and went through her eyes and ears. She went to scream out but found herself gagging as it entered her nose. She couldn't breathe. The shadows were now holding down her arms and legs. She couldn't move. She couldn't struggle. All she could do was tense her fists until her knuckles went white and the bone threatened to pierce her delicate skin.

Then it stopped.

But at what price?

China coughed, she spat blood as she wiped her eyes, sitting up gently. Her vision was distorted but she could about make out a figure looming over her.

"China Sorrows." The figure said. "Or should I call you, Supreme Mage? Such a pleasure to finally meet you." It bowed to her, laughing as it did it.

By now her vision was clear, the figure was indeed Knave Hallow. His strong arms and bare torso were pulsing with black tattoos that moved randomly in a rhythmic pattern that was almost hypnotic. She could she the necromancy surging within him. Knave was bald and would have probably been a handsome man if it wasn't for his bulging eyes. "You were going to experiment on me, just like that horrid creature Nye does."

"How did you do it? I'm guessing it had something to do with the amulet of yours?" China manage to say between coughs.

"I knew you wouldn't be able to resist the amulet. After all, you are a collector, aren't you? I just needed you to touch it and then all it took was a bit of time to charge." His accent was a cross between Scottish and English and his voice was deep. "I need something from you." He continued as he knelt beside her. "I need you to calve one of your famous sigils into me."

"You killed five of my Cleavers for a tattoo?" She almost scoffed.

"Yours are world class, are they not?" He said. "What I need is no ordinary tattoo, Miss Sorrows. A long while ago, I had the ability to access people in their dream state. I could manipulate dreams, I could make them into nightmares, sleep paralysis. Not only that, but I could hurt them. They would feel every bit of what was happening to them whilst they slept. What better way than to destroy the morale of the enemy than to turn them insane?" He spoke as if this sounded justified. "But, let's just say I was damaged. I lost my ability."

"You need me to fix you?" China laughed.

"No, I need you to improve me." Hallow's face serious.

"I'm afraid I cannot do that." She went to stand off the floor until Hallow shoved her back down again.

"And I'm afraid I cannot let you leave here without helping me."

China saw as another of his blood vessels broke in his eye, the blood tear ran down his cheek, he seemed completely unfazed. But China saw this as her time to attack. She tapped the sigil on her arm sending him flying backwards and into the metal slab he had been laying on moments ago. She tapped another sigil and Hallow was propelled into the wall. China threw invisible objects at him which hit him with a strong impact. Still, he progressed, conjuring the shadows around the room to ricochet into her with all the force he could muster. China lay on the ground once again pinned down by the shadows. Some of them had pierced through her skin letting out a hiss of pain from the Supreme Mage.

Hallow laughed, almost seeming offended that this was his opponent. "Is that all you have? Is that really the best you can do?" He sighed and shook his head. "What was I saying before, I was interrupted?" He rubbed at his chin. "Ah yes." His finger pointing in the air. "Sigil. Now."
