hello fellow complex au haver do you mind telling me a bit more abt your au :)
Aits a au that i always imagine since started playing the franchise since 2015 about lilith, angel, maya and steele and mow adding tyreen and amara.
I can inmagine this being like charmed with guns.
Tyreen nevered became the leader of the cov and left her family behind
Steele fled about as the destroyer got out but she was defeated lilith before.
Maya being the daughter of general knoxx and and is Steele's protege.
Helena peirce kicked lilith out of the resistance after lilith failed to kill handsome jack
Amara is about the same.
Angel was freed by tyreen, amara and maya after after the vault hunters killed baron flynt snd steele shutting down the echo
Maya learned of the old siren sisterhood and conviced steele to bring it back to the galaxy and found their sisters.

Celia, La Bella Sans Merci, and The Blessed Mother
I haven't been able to stop thinking about the fact that the Marian image on the Lockwood Parent's headstone appears in the same book La Bella Sans Merci does, who could be seen as a sort of anti-Marian figure. For example, while Mary is an image of celestial beauty, Sans Merci is an image of wordly beauty. While Mary is a model of chastity, Sans Merci functions as a siren. Both are attractive because of their femininity, but one of them presents a very warped feminity, meant to manipulate and destroy instead of guide and nurture.
This gets even more interesting when you consider what we know about Lucy. 1) She has a complicated relationship with all women, especially with Holly, who is very stereotypically feminine. 2) She struggles with her body image, and doesn't like to dress up. 3) She is the youngest of 7 girls, and only one of her sisters writes to her. 4) Her mother's awful.
No one expected Sans Merci to ghost lock Lucy, because her victims are normally boys. But her power over Lucy doesn't come from romantic attraction - it comes from the ache of missing motherhood/sisterhood. Lucy is thinking about her sisters when Sans Merci appears. That's why she is vulnerable.
Add all of this to the fact that Lockwood's parents were good, loving parents. Note that Celia means "heavenly." The Blessed Mother, our heavenly mother, appears on the gravestone of Lockwood's literally "heavenly" mother in the same book we see Lucy particularly vulnerable from her lack of positive female love, and attacked/targeted by a counterfeit version of feminity.

THE SIRENS🌊🎶🧜♀️
Backstory/Situation:
The Sirens were outcasts in the Coral Sea, regarded as bad omens and invasive creatures due to their ability to read the minds of both creatures and humans in order to lure them to their doom. So their time there was not very great to say the least. The three of them weren’t even close and yet they still ended up being friends. The Sirens more or so became a sisterhood finding comfort in each other’s presence.
How they got into NRC:
After stealing some food from a well known family runned Coral Sea restaurant, The Sirens made it to the surface to hide from the obviously angry owners. While trying to enjoy their soggy wet meals, a human ended up finding them. But not just any human, but a prince from The Aquatius Kingdom, Malachi Fotea.
At first, the trio were apprehensive of Malachi. After all this was their first time encountering a human and had no idea how to deal with them, so they ducked back into the sea. It took a little bit of corasing from the Prince to bring these scared creatures back but his calls ended up making them curious.
From sneaking out of his castle to tell them stories of cultures from different homelands he researched his kingdom’s secrets and even told the tale of two rival magic schools RSA & NRC. Which intrigued the girls most.
They already liked Malachi and considered him their first close human friend. So possibly enrolling in the same school he is, RSA, would not only be fun to hang out with, but would also allow them to turn over a new leaf in their lives by evolving their magic as a sort of middle finger to the merfolk that pushed them away.
So the Sirens decided to go to "Land Boot Camp" and study in order to improve their magic. Even working on their unique magic and entrancing vocals. The girls were finally accepted...to the school they didn't want, NRC, after their final day of boot camp and training.
Unfortunately for The Sirens, NRC discovered their magical abilities before RSA could. After spotting a Black Horse Carriage approaching them at high speed, they all had to learn the hard way. Having to wave goodbye to Malachi promising to meet each other when the time comes.
All of this hard work, only to end up at the wrong school.

Siren’s Description
——————
Mitzy (She/They)
Age: 18
Best Subject: Astrology
Birthday: April 19th
Class/Grade: 3-D
Club: Film Studies
Height: 5’6(167cm)
Hobby: Turning everyone into her makeup guinea pigs
Homeland: Coral Sea
Likes: “Cute” or “Cool” people (personality wise/appearance wise)
Dislikes: “Boring” and “Bland” people (personality wise/ appearance wise)
Unique magic: Bizarre Belt
Her songs are able to put people into mass hysteria, making people see illusions and even cause others to attack people they’re allies with.
Mitzy’s UM is pretty much her unique song along with her other sisters. This melody requires loud belting in a hypnotic but strange tone of voice. The tone gradually shifts from soft and quiet to jagged and harsh melodies, as if harsh ocean waves are crashing into someone's ear while they listen to this.
Personality:
When it comes to Mitzy's Personality, she is highly extroverted & loves socializing with people she knows nothing about. They essentially like being friends with people who aren’t “boring”. Mitzy never had a fun or relaxing moment during their time in the Coral Sea. She wants some excitement in her life! So, if your whole demeanor is just bland…they’ll probably won’t be interested in talking to you.
Also she’ll absolutely claw you if you mess up her hair, nails and clothing she puts a lot of time into that. But besides all of that she’s pretty cheerful and loves running up to people she finds adorable or cool.
Mitzy would honestly just ramble about whatever goes inside her head to someone she just met, only for her to give you her number after.
And yes she will be expecting you to answer back.
——————
Grace (She/Her)
Age: 19
Best Subject: Potionology
Birthday: August 23rd
Class/Grade: 3-C
Club: Science Club
Height: 5’8 (172cm)
Hobby: Collecting different types of mugs and tea sets
(Grace has a whole cabinet in her room filled with her findings. She also just loves having a tea break with her sisters)
Homeland: Coral Sea
Likes: Being praised whenever she completes a task
Dislikes: Feeling useless or Cowardly
Unique magic: Melancholic Lullaby
Grace’s song essentially forces everyone in her vicinity to uncontrollably cry their eyes out making their vision extremely cloudy and blurry.
This melody requires a soft and melodic tone, making the atmosphere around them shift into song full of sorrow and hopelessness. This song not only brings people to tears, but it also reminds them of past experiences that caused them to feel this way at the time. Making them relive a memory they wished to forget and suppress as their tears flow out from their eyes. Often at times tiring out the ones affected.
Personality:
Grace is very introverted and at points tends to be completely silent. Ever since she first met the sirens, she’s always felt like she was in the way or too cowardly whenever they got into trouble with some apex predators. Grace thought that coming to the surface would give her a better chance at changing her weak-willed nature.
From getting good grades, speaking up for herself, helping out whenever she can etc. This is what Grace strives to accomplish in order to reach her goal of becoming a natural born leader and an extraordinary alchemist due to her love of Alchemy & Potion making. And maybe getting some praise for her hard work along the way.
She’s in need of a confidence boost…
——————
Coco (She/Her)
Age: 19
Best Subject: Swimming
Birthday: January 16th
Class/Grade: 3-C
Club: Track & Field
Height: 5’11 (180cm)
Hobby: Herbalism
(Usually practices this whenever the Sirens are under the weather or just to use it in a therapeutic way to calm herself and her sisters down)
Homeland: Coral Sea
Likes: Making people at ease
Dislikes: Getting stressed
Unique magic: Healing Vibrato
Coco’s song is able to heal others from wounds to poisoning in a matter of seconds.
Her melody is a more relaxing but vibrant tune that feels soothing to the soul. Making the person she’s healing warm inside as if the sun itself is beaming in their hearts. After the song ends, the person affected feels more energized and feels like a weight has been completely lifted off their shoulders.
Personality:
Coco is a very loyal and patient person, even when she is frustrated. She always had that big sister energy that the sirens felt at ease with. Finding Mitzy and Grace was the best thing that could have happened to Coco.
For the longest time, she’s felt empty and hollow since she had no family or friends. If she had a problem, she had to solve it on her own. Injured? Swim it off, Hungry? Steal to save your skin, Sad & Stressed out? Suck it up, you don’t have time for unnecessary emotions. Which made matters worse for her.
Coco had not only calmed down after finding the other sirens, but she had also found a new purpose in her life. Her new sisters' personalities and quirks made her feel warm on the inside, finally realizing she now has a family of her own. Which made her protective of the girls.
Coco promised that she would make their time on the surface more exciting and relaxing. So if they ever had a problem, they would tell her everything and she would handle the rest.
It’s the least she can do for the people who changed her lonely life.
——————
The Sirens’ Trivia
——————
Mitzy:
Has a Bestie Journal where she writes about all of the friends she has gained throughout her years in NRC. Each page is full of glitter, stickers, ribbons, whatever else is in her room and of course a picture of the friend in question.
Mitzy dyed all of the Sirens’ hair when they first got to the surface. Of course she ended up needing help from Divus since the TwisTube tutorials weren’t working.
Is not afraid to go for the throat when someone talks shit behind their back. If you start it Mitzy will end it.
Grace:
While Grace doesn’t talk all that much around people in public, she’s super talkative around the Sirens’ and Divus. Especially if it’s on a good day for her! Like getting good grades on her exams, completing a list of chores she made for herself, having nice customers at the Monstro Lounge etc. Grace would talk for hours and the girls don’t mind one bit.
Grace wants to communicate with her fellow science club members Trey & Rook but is too shy to speak to them. Maybe one day she’ll gain confidence.
Absolutely loves cats but is extremely allergic to them and often sneezes 5 times in a row when around one.
Coco:
Loves picking up people shorter than her. If you’re lucky or unlucky enough she’ll show you off to her sisters. “Look at this little squirt I found on my way to the dorms.”
Coco’s room is filled up with smoked plants that’s used for stress relief. That’s why some students love coming by to her room whenever they’re in need of her.
THE AFFECTION MASTER! Coco gives out the best of hugs whenever someone is in need of comfort. It’s nice, loving, and just tight enough to put anyone at ease. Coco often does this for her sisters too so she knows for a fact that it works. Oh, and I can’t forget the words of confirmation she whispers out to the lucky person in need of affection.
The Sisters:
They are under the watchful eye of Divus after Crowley assigned him to make sure their time in NRC is most comfortable. Especially, after an incident where Grace started to cry realizing that she didn’t go to the school of her dreams, RSA. He basically became the girls father figure and even helped them study for up and coming tests/exams. Divus basically adores them for their taste in fashion & quick learning abilities!
The Sisters even asked Divus to tailor their uniforms for NRC since the original uniforms were boring to them. (Mostly to Mitzy)
Instead of the regular “Duo Magic” the Sirens can team up to create Trio Magic called “The Sirens’ Shanty.”
Often sing songs on special events or weekends for that good Monstro profit!
The Sirens actually knew Orval when they were kids but didn’t interact all that much due to his severe social anxiety.
Bonus Sketches/Planning:

Do you have any book suggestions for contemporary fantasy adventure stories with a focus on friendship?
you know i do! by contemporary i assume you mean set in modern times? here's what i've got. these all focus primarily on friendship and may include a small romance subplot, but mostly friends. if you want more with stronger romance subplots, or set in non-modern or fantasy worlds, hit me up, i got lots of those too:
Witchlings by Claribel A Ortega is a middle grade fantasy set in a fantasy world, but it's very modern- cell phones, etc. Also middle grade but more horror is Small Spaces by Katherine Arden, which is an incredible book I want to scream about all the time. I love middle grade but I know it's a tough sell, so I'll move on to-
Scout's Honor by Lily Anderson is about a Girl Scout-like troupe of young women fighting monsters, and how that messes them up. I also liked the author's Undead Girl Gang. These are both YA.
The Grimrose Girls by Laura Pohl is about friends at a boarding school where they find out they're cursed, tying their fates to fairy tales. Also YA.
If you're willing to go a little (or a lot) weird and slightly more literary, We Ride Upon Sticks by Quan Barry is about a girls lacrosse team in the 80s who turn to witchcraft to win their games. Not as explicitly magical as the above, but really very good. Told in first person plural ("we"), which is pretty cool. I see this shelved as YA, but it's kinda dense for YA so idk.
Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger is a YA book I'm always trying to sell- ace Indigenous teen who can see the ghosts of animals solves a murder with her ghost dog. :)
A Song Below Water by Bethany C Morrow is another magical modern world about Black sirens. Also YA.
Finally, I'm legally required to direct everyone to Seanan McGuire's beautiful novella series Wayward Children, about a school for children who have been to portal fantasy worlds and returned.
Contemporary fantasy in adult books tend to have a lot more romance, but I think VenCo by Cherie Dimaline is a pretty fun adventure about witches and the importance of sisterhood. I haven't read The Change yet, but it's on my TBR!

Are there groups/coven/packs of species that aren’t witches or werewolves. Like to vampires have groups? Do sirens?
Sirens are accepted in some/most covens as they do practise a form of magic. We also have the order for humans. In terms of vampires, this is something we've been discussing in the discord although we have nothing written into our Crestle Cove lore currently.
We may be adding a sisterhood of vampires at a later date and Brant Hacke has their 'crew' that they are currently adding new vampires to. Both of these are something that are going to feature in our prewritten bios, so I don't see why a mun couldn't add to this now.

Introduction: Thalassa Jones
thalassa: the daughter of Aether and Hemera in Greek Mythology, the female personification and goddess of the Mediterranean Sea.
wasseramsel: a small bird that lives around rivers and lakes, able to swim and dive into the water.
Born and raised in Crestle Cove Thali never had much need for the outside world. Between the wide ocean and the fast rapids of the veilwater this place has everything she could wish for. Water in abundance. She has a strong sense of her fae heritage although she has never met her fae-father.
Thalassa was raised by her human mother and - after her mother left - spent most of her time in her uncle Noah's shop, the bait and switch. If she isn't sorting through fishing supplies or leaving all her money at poetry and papers you can find her roaming the steps of the Old Lighthouse, gaze turned to the ocean, heart tuned to its call.
Throughout her teenage years, many called her an ice queen, but now, so close to turning 30, she has found a strong sense of community and is thankful for everything that the Crestle Coven has done for her and her kind. Her ties to the witches of town are strong and she dreams to one day create a similar sense of sisterhood and family for the outcast sirens of the fae world. Until then she enjoys her quiet life in Crestle Cove, but do not mistake her stillness for weakness. Like a small creek frozen over in winter, there is power running underneath the surface, strength, and endurance. Should spring come - should someone threaten the fragile safety of her home, like a pirate captain returned - Thalassa is more than ready to break the ice and let the water run wild.
The sea may be calm and peaceful now, but raging storms loom on the horizon, ready to shatter any boat at the rocks of Crestle Cove.
"Cast my ashes into the river and hear how it speaks of my immortal soul."

Godmother Apollymi || @mere-lullaby @darkhearthorns
Apollymi stood beside Sirena, their laughter echoing across the shimmering shores of Atlantis. As they watched the dolphins gracefully dance in the distance, their bond had grown stronger with each passing day. Little did Apollymi know that a profound declaration was about to unfold, one that would touch her heart in ways she never anticipated.
Sirena, her eyes sparkling with affection, turned to Apollymi, her voice filled with a mix of excitement and vulnerability. "Apollymi," she began, her words carrying a weight of heartfelt emotion, "You have become more than a friend to me. You have become like a sister, a confidante, and a guiding light in my life. And because of that, I want to ask you something truly special."
Apollymi's curiosity piqued, her gaze fixed on Sirena, waiting in anticipation for her next words. Sirena's voice trembled with emotion as she continued, "Apollymi, I would be honored if you would accept the role of godmother to my child, Prince Oberon, the heir to the throne."
A moment of stunned silence hung in the air as Apollymi registered the depth of Sirena's request. Her heart swelled with a mixture of surprise, joy, and profound gratitude. She had cherished their blossoming friendship, but this invitation to become a godmother was a testament to the profound connection they had formed.
Tears welled in Apollymi's eyes as she reached out, embracing Sirena tightly. "Oh, Sirena," she whispered, her voice filled with emotion, "I am beyond honored and blessed to be chosen as the godmother to Prince Oberon. To have the opportunity to watch him grow, guide him, and love him as my own family is a gift I will forever cherish."
Apollymi's voice trembled with sincerity as she continued, "Our bond has become something truly extraordinary, and I promise you, Sirena, that I will always be there for Prince Oberon, just as I will always be here for you. As his godmother, I will guide him with love, support, and unwavering dedication."
Sirena's eyes shimmered with tears of happiness as she held Apollymi's gaze. "I know you will, Apollymi," she said, her voice filled with trust and gratitude. "Your presence in our lives has already brought so much light and joy. I cannot imagine a better godmother for our precious Oberon."
In that moment, the bond between Sirena and Apollymi transcended friendship, deepening into a sisterhood that would shape the lives of both Prince Oberon and Sirena herself. They knew that Apollymi's love and guidance would be a constant source of support and strength, not just for the child but for the entire family.
With their hearts aglow with the warmth of their connection, Sirena and Apollymi shared a tender embrace. The dolphins continued their playful dance in the distance, their movements seemingly celebrating the beautiful bond that had been forged between the siren and the Atlantean princess.
From that day forward, Apollymi embraced her role as godmother with unwavering devotion, showering Prince Oberon with love, wisdom, and the joyous memories that would shape his future. And Sirena, knowing that her dear friend would be a cornerstone in her child's life, felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the sisterly bond they shared and the beautiful journey that lay ahead.

heyo! im in ‘lets circle back to that in january’ heaven rn, have you read anything recently that you’d recommend? I might finally have time to dig into it!!
hell yeah, this is a great year to ask me this question bc i actually read things, and enjoyed almost all of them! also, a plus for me and i hope it makes a difference to you—everything i read was either written by a queer author or centered the story around queer characters. yes, this was on purpose and yes i will be continuing that in 2024, i always need more queer stories in my life
fiction: siren queen, nghi vo—my favorite book i read this year. a chinese american actress trying to make it in pre-Hays Code hollywood but also there's magical realism. the queerness here is quiet but not muted. tbh i think it could have done with, like, 50 more pages; the meat of the plot seemed to really ramp up just as the book was ending. but the writing was immersive, delicate, and thoughtful.
the once and future witches, alix harrow—three sisters in 1893 work through their own loaded history as they try to bring magic back into the world. alix harrow looks at a story and says "this isn't complete until i put some generational family trauma into it," (looking at you, starling house, also recommended) and she's so right for it. she writes sisterhood wonderfully, the tenderness and trauma of it all, weaving folklore/fairy tales throughout and giving us some bonus (emotionally) tortured sapphics. can also highly highly recommend the audiobook of this; the narrator has a wonderful holly hunter-esque voice.
the teixcalaan series, arkady martine—i read both books this year but absolutely lost my shit over a desolation called peace, which is the second one. the first one, a memory called empire, is very very good and captivating but is also so full of politicking and bureaucracy that it felt slow for basically the first half. both books deal with mahit dzmare, an ambassador of a satellite station colonized by a vast, sprawling empire, and her investigation into her predecessor's death. which is a vastly simplified summary for a deliciously intricate plot; the second book has the advantage of first contact with some creepy-ass aliens and some really cool experiments with prose, from a writing perspective.
graphic novels: saga, brian k. vaughan (writer) & fiona staples (artist)—i know, i know; saga has been around for a while and i only caught up to all the TPBs this year. basic plot: two soldiers on opposite sides of a war fall in love and try to live their damn lives, despite all of the government officials, exes, and mercenaries after them. the art is impeccable, the writing is funny, sexy, heartbreaking, authentic—i can and will read this forever.
nonfiction: something that may shock and discredit you, daniel lavery—i'm not usually one for memoirs/essay collections; i prefer biographies. but i've also loved daniel's writing since the toast, and there is so much i relate to in this expression of his transition. do i always get all of the arthurian or columbo references? are there bits of it that just sail wildly over my head? absolutely. but i also burst out laughing so many times, and there were passages that i just wanted to highlight for pages and scream, "me! it's me, right here!!"
these are my top picks of my 2023 collection! i read a bunch more books but i don't want to clog up everyone's dash so just let me know if you want more recs! always happy to share
#carments#anonymous#long post#i've already added everything alix harrow and nghi vo have written to my 2024 list
