I isolated the part where you can hear their va's so I can listen to it over and over again to determine who they are.

So far the only one I'm a 100% certain on is Ono Daisuke as Narita (heard it myself immediately), and a lot of people are convinced Kouki Uchiyama is voicing Nikaido. However... I, for some reason, keep hearing Kensho Ono in the second part as well. So maybe that's Hayashi?

Other guesses that I and other people have are; Chiaki Kobayashi, Horie Shun, Nobunaga Shimazaki and Soma Saito. Please tell me who you think they might be!

(Also, for those unaware, Chiaki Kobayashi and Nakamura Yuichi voiced Satomi and Narita in a pv they released in commemoration for the live action movie. They did not reprise their roles in the anime, unfortunately.)

Spoilers for the Yakuza Series

So, the Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Bucket List Trailer dropped some really juicy reveals which longtime Yakuza fans will happily eat up, that being RETURNING CHARACTERS FROM PREVIOUS GAMES! Which is a big deal for the longtime Yakuza fans because, while Yakuza does bring back characters semi-consistently, the series also has a tendency to completely shelve and forget characters from game to game without even a mention (notable examples being the playable characters Tanimura from 4 and Shinada from 5 and longtime recurring character the Florist of Sai who after Yakuza 5 just disappears without any explanation). It’s also a big reason why fans disliked Yakuza 6, with it being touted and marketed as the ‘End of Kiryu’s Story’, it featured very little of Kiryu’s friends he met along his long journey and instead took place in a new city Onomichi and focused more on characters introduced in 6.

We got Kiryu returning to the classic Yakuza series location, the graves of Nishiki, Yumi and Kazama, where he of course meets Date.

Then we have Kiryu walk into Survive Bar and gets a blast from the past through finally meeting the bar’s bartender, Kashiwagi (he actually did go to Survive during Like a Dragon Gaiden but it was right when Kashiwagi was out).

Next, fresh off his surprise reappearance at the end of Like a Dragon Gaiden, Taichi surrounded by gaggle of hostesses. Gaiden reveals Taichi got a job as a firefighter, but it looks like he acquired some major money somehow. Maybe he achieved his childhood dream of becoming a pro-wrestler between 2019 and 2023/2024?

Next, we get Yuya, who RGG Studio has given an actual human-looking face to; after he had previously kept his weirdly-shaped uncanny PS2 modelled head that had his cheeks concaved in.

Then, of course, we have the man, the myth, the legend, Shun Akiyama of Sky Finance (don’t know about you guys, but I personally believe Nick Ogata in 7, who is a character I do like, was created as a fill-in character for Akiyama and Akiyama was originally written to do all the things Nick did in 7, being this enigmatic financier and sheltering Daigo, Majima and Saejima).

And, yet another major surprise, Kaoru Sayama who was major character in Yakuza 2 and famously unceremoniously leaving the series to move to America finally returns to the series after a 14/15 year absence; leaving fans especially flabbergasted considering she became Kiryu’s love interest in 2 and she never even gets talked about (in fact, I’m fairly sure the RGG team tried to pretend that their romance never happened as the recaps of Yakuza 2 put in the sequels to fill in first-time players never mention their romance and the Yakuza 3 character sheet on the start menu which denotes characters’ relationships with each other says “Just friends” with Kiryu and Kaoru). But, based on a teaser where Kiryu tells Ichiban he did in fact propose to someone before, it seems it might have been Kaoru. Plus, it seems that Kaoru is still single (I was thinking she might have been married with kids) and the dub trailer made Kaoru sound bitter about staying loyal to Kiryu.

An Ono Michio keychain. Wondering whose bag it’s on. I think maybe Haruka, Haruto or Hiromi (Kiyomi and Someya’s daughter from 6). Perhaps a hint that we might return to Onomichi and see the old Hirose Clan.

We even get a return of Yuki and Koyuki, who have seemingly kept Club Four Shine going, plus it looks like Saeko and Seong-hui are joining in. Sadly, the story hostesses from 0’s Cabaret Club Czar and Kiwami 2’s Cabaret Club Grand Prix don’t seem to be returning. Yeah, I think that characters that were played by AV actresses (i.e. almost all of the hostesses in the Yakuza series) will not come back; which I’m really disappointed by as I really liked each of the 0 hostess’ substorys. Also, that sadly means that Eri from 7 is probably not coming back as she was also played by an AV actress.

Kiryu also reunites with another old friend from all the way back since Yakuza 1, his old trainer Komaki. Infinite Wealth will stick to the RPG-style battles and job systems, and even before then the games have more-or-less moved past Komaki and other trainer characters teaching you new moves in favour of Kiryu just levelling up a skill tree on the menu, but Kiryu meeting his old master who he owes much of his acquired strength to is still great to see.

And, of course, 1 out of 4 of Kiryu oldest still living friends since 0 (the others being Daigo, Kashiwagi and Majima), Pocket Circuit Fighter; still having that photo of the two of them together that he pulls when singing Baka Mitai in Kiwami 1.

We also hear Haruka in the trailer, who I’m fairly sure was also replaced from her original English voice actor from Yakuza 1 Debi Derryberry, the voice of Jimmy Neutron. I don’t want to get into the whole voice acting controversy but, considering that Bill Farmer reprised his role of Date from Yakuza 1, I feel a little sad that all the characters who first appeared from Yakuza 1 have gotten replaced (Kiryu: Darryl Kurlyo -> Yong Yea, Majima: Mark Hamill -> Matthew Mercer, Kashiwagi: John DiMaggio -> David Hayter and Gary Buster Holmes: Gary Anthony Williams -> Isaac C. Singleton Jr.)

⏶Although Kusuo almost never voluntarily expresses his emotions, he shows a blissful smile whilst tasting sweets. Is this cute contrast also a point that attracts people around him!?

⏶⏵In addition to Kaidou, other members of his troublesome group include the strongest idiot Nendou Riki (Voice Actor: Ono Daisuke and the delinquent Kuboyasu Aren (Voice Actor: Hosoya Yoshimasa), whose trouble-causing abilities are immeasurable. Despite that, they're also lovable guys that you can't hate.

—If you were to express the growth and changes of Saiki Kusuo in the second season using four-character idioms or similar expressions, what would they be?

Kamiya: 「Fierce Argument (Editor’s note: The sound of swords clashing violently. Also, the state of engaging in heated debate)」 I feel that the degree of this is gradually increasing compared to the 1st season.

–Kamiya-san, please tell us a particular「Kusuo’s charm point」 that you’d like to recommend right now.

Kamiya: I don’t know much about Kusuo, but anyway, Teruhashi-san’s cuteness is a big charm of this work. 

–Please tell us the episode or moment that made you laugh whilst portraying Kusuo.

Kamiya: Kusuo is usually cool and it’s hard to read his emotions, but sometimes during particularly intense situations, he strongly interjects with 「You idiot!」, which is fun for me too.

–Kusuo is always extremely popular regardless of gender, Kamiya-san, if you were in his position, what would you do?

Kamiya: If each of them stays with me with the awareness that we're friends, then I will gratefully accept that.

–If you were to express the growth and changes of Saiki Kusuo in the second season from a  chuunibyou perspective, what would that be?

Shimazaki: 「Jet Black Twilight - Ragnarok of Chaos」 Reason: it just sounds cool!

–Shimazaki-san, please tell us a particular 「Kaidou’s charm point」that you’d like to recommend right now.

Shimazaki: I find the contrast between Shun in his full-blown chuunibyou Jet-Black Wings mode and his natural self, who is a bit of a coward but is honest and caring about his friends, to be appealing.

–Shimazaki-sama, if you discovered a completely soaked Kaidou on a rainy day, what would you do?

Shimazaki: I’d protect him!!!

–Please tell us the episode or moment that made you laugh whilst portraying Kaidou.

Shimazaki: In the 2nd season, episode 4 of episode 8x, the loop episode 「Another Time Leap Challenge! I remember saying the same line over and over again like a broken record, it left a very strong impression on me. It was fun!

–Kaidou is still in full-blown chuunibyou mode, but Shimazaki-san, when were you the most chuunibyou-like in your life? 

Shimazaki: Right now. I seriously imagine using magic and saving the world every day.

Madou Monogatari: Fia and the Mysterious School, formerly Madou Monogatari 4, will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Switch on November 28 in Japan for 8,580 yen, the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals. My brain too smooth for this. Don't get me wrong—it's good, but I don't have the patience to sit through three CDs of this. 😂 I fell asleep 5 times. A new record!

It would've been better if Hira just stopped talking to me in formal Japanese 'cause it makes my brain crash. He says a lot of deep things when he can't even grasp the shallowest of concepts. I also have a love-hate relationship with Hira's train of thought 'cause how can he jump to all these conclusions but never the right ones? He's still absolutely sad in the head, but idk, I'm here for it lmaooo.

The same goes with Kiyoi. Like boi, you're the only one with half of a functioning brain here, so idk, use it?

Kiyoi: "I don't wanna be with you anymore."

Hira: *leaves

Kiyoi:

Like in the first BLCD, I still can't figure out if I should feel concerned for him or Hira. I mean, if someone I knew had this relationship, I would personally ask both of them to leave each other and see a shrink. 😂 I dare say that their relationship would be the most normal one there is if Kiyoi wasn't such a tsundere and if Hira was just less of a weirdo.

How are we bringing your parents into this already when you have a wack-ass relationship???

But hey, nothing like a good kidnappin' and one mc almost dyin' to solve communication issues, right?

The things you do, Nagira Yuu.

As usual, the voice work is phenomenal. Saitou Souma won as best voice actor for Kiyoi at the chilchil 2023 awards while Ono Yuuki placed 2nd for Hira. There's just something special about Saitou Souma and Ono Yuuki in Utsukushii Kare. Their chemistry is good and so natural! It's like they bring out the best in each other. I especially love hearing Ono Yuuki come undone under Saitou Souma's Kiyoi but immediately get his revenge in disc 3.

I'm already nominating this as Souma's best match up in 2021. Sorry, Makonyan. Let's see if someone else rises to the challenge.

As for the accuracy...

So I've actually tried listening to this back in 2022. Yes, I'm writing this review in 2024, and this is the very CD that caused my burn out lmaooo. From what I read from the trial, it doesn't start the same as the novel, so I was confused. I didn't take the liberty of buying the whole novel, so I'm not sure if they really do have the same content. They do have the same name, though. Idk. Again, Hira speaks in formal/old Japanese, so the struggle made me put this off. 😅 And it just snowballed from there 'cause I'm loyal to my log. I don't keep up with the manga either, but I think the third volume is still at Utsukushii Kare and not Nikurashii Kare.

Long story short, I can't say if it's accurate to the source material, and I won't be able to recommend read-alongs for both Utsukushii Kare and Nikurashii Kare.

The two installments are equally interesting. Both are jam-packed with nicely paced content. I feel more comfortable with Nikurashii Kare, though, 'cause Hira made me uncomfortable in Utsukushii Kare, while it was Shitara who made me uncomfortable in Nikurashii Kare lmaooo. I loved Hira's little character development here, and I wish I could say the same for Kiyoi.😂The comedy and action were also good, and Moririn's presence made it 100 times better. It might not make my 2021 faves, but it's definitely one of the best-produced ones—it won best BLCD at chilchil 2023 for a reason.

Let's pray to god I survive the third installment. 🤞

kimi kusumoto

she was my first ever pjsk oc!! leader of me and @/zephryine-tale's oc unit - an accapella group called Modern Day RULERS! her character is very deeply intertwined with royalty and the isolation of being put on a pedestal - in her 'real life', she's considers the weird freak, grandiose loser etc. etc that virtually no one wants to hang out or be friends with because of her tendency to be self-centered and loud. (she has crippling npd </3) and the loneliness definitely took a toll on her, and she basically 'shuns' her real life in favor of believing she is destined for something way greater than herself- that she's royalty. which is how her royal SEKAI was born, a place where SHE could be the king of the world.

she's also the alto role and lead singer ^_^ mdr is uniquely an entirely vocal group teehee (no instrument!)

she's part of modern day RULERS with kimi! her story is similar in the sense that she is also socially shunned and disliked, but she's really lonely and just wants a friend :< SEKAI is her escape to be with people that accept her, listen to her, love her, etc. (she and kimi are... you know.... 🏳️‍🌈)

she's a soprano and backup singer :3

this one's the kicker. she's part of lost-wishing and her story like the others is about things getting so bad for her she can't lie about it anymore! she's Gifted Kid Burnout Supreme - straight As, skipped a grade, and in every other extracurricular! her parents want her to be the perfect kid and that's damn well what she's gonna be- but her work ethic is definitely getting in the way of that (lol) since she's a winning horse. and when you have a winning horse, you run into the ground.

she's convinced herself that she just wants what her parents want for her- perfect grades, perfect resume, perfect college. but deep down, she'd rather do anything else- and that hidden shrieking abyss is her motif 😺 it's giving budget mafuyu BUT HEAR ME OUT (/silly)

she'll find herself eventually

she came to kumo and kazuko's SEKAI because she was lying to herself about her real wants and needs compared to her parents wants and needs as badly as the rest of l-w was, but after a lot (and I mean a lot) of work, they're all able to heal together!
