Madou Monogatari: Fia and the Mysterious School second trailer, system trailers, and latest details - Gematsu
Publisher Compile Heart and developer Sting have released the second official trailer and four system trailers for Madou Monogatari: Fia and the Mysterious School.
Get the latest gameplay details below.
Dungeon
Gimmicks – Dungeons are loaded with various gimmicks. Learn their traits and overcome them!
New Monsters – Various new and distinct monsters appear in this game. But do not let their unique appearances deceive you, otherwise you will be the one in pain. Learn each monster’s unique traits and take them on in battle.
Timeline – During battle, you can freely move around to evade enemy attacks or keep enemies within attack range, and when the timeline in the upper-right corner of the screen reaches the left edge, you can select an action from “Skills” or “Items.”
Fuzzy Parameters – Your party’s facial expressions are displayed on the left side of the screen. You will be able to tell their current HP by their expressions. If their status changes, an icon for that change will appear alongside their expression.
Skills and Fever – By consuming MP, you can use skills such as recovery and attack-based moves. Additionally, by using skills and amassing elemental orbs, you can enter the “Fever” state.
Grand Sorcery – By consuming the elemental orbs you have amassed, you can use a special move called “Grand Sorcery.” The Grand Sorcery that can be used changes based on the attributes of the orbs.
Grimoire
Grimoire – By completing lessons and assignments at the school of sorcery, you can learn the sorcery written in in the “Grimoire” coursebook. Learn a lot of spells and power up!
Advancement Exams – Once you have earned the amount of credits required to move up to the next level, you can take an advancement exam in the principal’s office. By passing the exam, you will be able to learn stronger sorcery.
Photo Mode
Photo Mode – In Photo Mode, you can set up the characters in various situations and take photographs.
Original Stamps – The characters from the game also appear as original stamps. Use as many as you like to get that perfect shot!
Madou Monogatari: Fia and the Mysterious School is due out for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Switch on November 28 in Japan

So… Madou 4… or Fia rather?
On one hand, I'm happy at least the non-human characters are coming back! They were my favs! It might be good to breathe new air into the Madou world with a new protagonist.
Skeleton-T as a teacher/staff member? Pog. That's a cute development for him! Seems all the returning characters (that SEGA allowed to relinquish) are staff members. And I love the non-humans so that's a W for me.
On the other hand, not telling fans that the OG main cast was not returning until now feels kind of… deceitful.
Japanese users seem to have that sentiment.
So that's not a good sign. Well, okay! It doesn't need Arle and co. to be a good game, just needs to have that nice old Madou tone and old school gameplay that people loved!
Oh… it… doesn't have that either, huh? It's another 3D game with visual novel cutscenes with a more complex elemental spell system…
And with copypasted dungeon layouts, joooooy-
Yeah, okay, I'm gonna pull off the optimism mask. I'm sorry, but as someone who has poured hours into Neptunia and Compile Heart's other work, this is just… them retreading the same mistakes they did ten years ago.
To which at this point-
Why not just make a sequel to the previous Sorcery Saga?
You would be telling the truth to people on what they should expect, you would bring back the roguelikes that are taking off in popularity in recent years- you could do something with Pupuru and co. rather than leaving them to rot since the game bombed by being Vita exclusive for a long while.
If SEGA cannot relinquish the rights of Arle and co, that's fine. Pupuru was still right there to use. If they didn't want to affiliate with Pupuru, that's also fine, Fia seems cute.
The problem here, is not that there is a new protagonist. Amitie and other characters worked just fine because Puyo Fever was fun and the characters were good! Sorcery Saga could work if it leaned more on having its own identity rather than reusing the Madou characterizations.
The problem is that this is yet another typical Compile Heart / Idea Factory game. Nine months ago, I literally said "Compile Heart being involved is worrying given their track record."
Things like mediocre gameplay, frequent crashes/lag, and very, very uncomfortable perverted jokes. SEGA may not have trusted them with Arle and the rest for a good reason. (if SEGA was the reason for the main charas being barred from use, rather than some other issue)
So please be aware of that. I'm not trying to be a hater here, I'm just… someone who has played these games and them being super grindy/crashing a lot. I would love to be proven wrong and for this to just be cute with some random horror final boss moments. I really would!
If not, then I think it's time for some indie game creator to make a Madou successor.

Just letting Touhou And Puyo Puyo Fans know (or remind in case anyone already knew this) that there is going to two games from Compile Heart coming out next year. One is a Touhou Tactical RPG called Touhou Spell Carnival that cooperate elements from the bullet hell games.
The other is Madou Monogatari 4, a sequel to the RPG series that Puyo Puyo spun off from and also a series that hasn’t received a game in decades with many people who work the series in the past coming back to work on it.
Nothing too big.
Here’s link to news article in case you don’t believe me

I was so miffed when I heard today that the Code Z Switch release in the West was canceled, but then I had some time calm down and think. Something just doesn't add about the canceled West release of Death End Re;Quest Code Z and the Neptunia Re;birth Trilogy on the Switch. I can humor the idea that Code Z was rejected because it's over the top gore (I'm humoring, not accepting it, especially since the Spirit Hunter: Death Mark games are on the Switch), but that doesn't explain Rebirth. Also, the reason given "content not complying with Nintendo guidelines" doesn't make sense if the reason why is fanservice considering IF has released more risque games on the eShop. Also, Lollipop Chainsaw RePop was released very recently on the Switch as of writing this, with no issue of censorship or guidelines even being mentioned. Also, they've released other Neptunia games on the Switch with no pushback. It can't be because of one comment I read about the console war storyline possibly being the reason. The spinoff games' writing and tone are no different from the Rebirth trilogy yet they were released on the Switch.
It feels like there's something Idea Factory is not saying. Like there is some miscommunication or misinformation involving them and Nintendo of America. If censorship was the issue (as a lot of loud people are quick to yell about) then why completely cancel the release instead of editing these games? Rebirth and Code Z are still coming out on the PS4/5 in English. It just raises too many questions. Again, they recently released Lollipop Chainsaw. Also, Neptunia Riders vs Dogoos is still coming out on the Switch in January, not canceled at all. One flimsy reason I can come up with is that the reason IF gave is either hyperbolic or not completely accurate. What if the real reason is that they don't want to admit they can't optimize these games good enough (as IF Switch ports tend to run poorly) and they decided to scrap the ports and are instead going to release them on Nintendo's next console? Yeah this sound Switch 2 conspiracy copium nonsense like those clickbait posts, but hear me out. They said they can't release on the Switch's eShop (and physically) but who's to say that means they can't release them on the Switch 2 later down the line? Obviously they can't share an eShop due to the possible difference in power between the two systems; there will be release exclusively for the new Switch. So yeah; there is a possibility that these games could still get release and better optimized on Nintendo's next system. As to why they would say it's due to Nintendo's guidelines, who knows? NDA or to save face? Also "content" doesn't necessarily have to refer the aesthetics and story, it can also refer to the game itself i.e. the performance. Also this could be another screw up by Idea Factory International. They don't have the best track record especially with how they cheap out with partial dubbing and that one incident where they messed up the ESRB rating on Sister Vs Sisters, forcing them to re-record lines and censor profanity in order to not get in trouble for false advertisement. Those are my thoughts. The big point of contention I can see to this theory however is that these games were released on the Switch in Japan. Take my unorganized thoughts with a grain of salt.

A Mysterious Mage blocks Arles final destination, demanding her to, “Leave…”
✨HAPPY BIRTHDAY @mermaidsscale !✨
This is a Puyo/Madou Monogatari Persona I made for my good friend years ago that I recently revisited to make this gift! Also the first time coloring them too!
Also I would like to a warm thank you to my sweetie, @kiwwy101 for suggesting some of the color theming! Mainly to keep the primary color PURPLE !
Other than that, this was planned for YEARS actually. Originally going to be a Puyo Puyo themed gift, but I changed it to Madou Monogatari because I liked the creepy atmosphere the PC-98 games had.
Hope you and everyone who’s a fan of this series enjoys this special piece I made for you!✨
