Orym leaving behind the locket he took from the vanguard they killed in Marquet is such a Moment. The Vanguard's side killed Orym's family, they used the Hells to trick and endanger Keyleth, and Otahon even (temporarily) killed Fearne, Laudna, and Orym himself in the Hellcatch. In spite of all that Orym still held onto a reminder that his enemies also had people they loved.

When Utkarsh described Bor'Dor and how suffering affected his demeanor and perspective, he specifically made note of how Orym would understand his suffering. Even though Ashton and Laudna have also lived lives of suffering. Even though they have all been shaped by the loss of their families, he still singled out Orym as the one who could understand Bor'dor. It made sense too! For both of them loss became motivation to take up a cause. A grand cause! A cause that dealt with not only the fate of the divine themselves, but also conveniently involved getting revenge against those they blamed for their loved ones' deaths and ensured they would not ever be able to do so again.

After seeing the twisted funhouse mirror reflection of his own motivation and journey, after finally having time to bond with a ruby vanguard member, Orym finally decided he didn't need a reminder of his enemy's humanity. Not during a war.

dead boy detectives is a show whose shortcomings and strengths make total sense when you think of it as a comic on tv, ie terribly goofy expository dialogue that sounds way better when you picture it in comic book font with every other word bolded, panel-paced conversation as our heroes figure out something very obvious, fun enormous monster set pieces that used up all the cgi budget which is why all the rooftop shots look Like That, incredible snap zooms and smash cuts in montages that hit exactly like comic panels, and side characters with bland or brilliant characterization that seems to hinge on the metric of ‘how much cunt did the actor put into their line readings’

#dead boy detectives #dead boy detectives spoilers #we’re accustomed to different nuances of (visual) language in diff media #by no means am i comic adaptation buff but i found myself frequently wondering why it felt so strange vis a vis pacing & writing #maybe it’s just a hallmark of the showrunners or directors!#i’m used to tv dialogue that is a lot faster and frankly uh seems to think more of its audience #a LOT of shots i think were meant to look like comic panels in the montages #devlin family house loop - the fire elemental potion - etc #but then there’s also these very TV Feeling Moments #i found it delightful but also super uneven! like multiple different shows were trying to climb to the top of the pile at once #it’s SUCH a mess to me (complimentary)#like lab grown to be fandom fodder but also i think quite accidentally fandom fodder in its shortcomings too

the most batshit insane traumatizing thing happened at work today & I won't know if people are dead bc of my inability to talk a man down from a mass murder until the news reports start coming out lollll

edit: it's all good there was nothing about a shootout on the news 🙏

#the rest of my shift after that call was a blur.#i obviously cant go into much detail but i was on the phone w/a man who had just robbed a mcds at gunpoint & was calling to say that hes #awaiting the police in the br & intends to shoot and kill as many as he can when they arrive #i tried talking him down but then he said ''ok ill blow my brains out on ten'' & began counting down.#i literally hung up at two after failing to stop him and started bawling & my coworkers called the cops to let them know they were #heading into a more dangerous situation than they realized #i monitered police scanners & 14 rounds were fired from the mcds location he was at but i have no further info #he mustve started shooting random ppl or cops. if i hadnt deprived him of his audience would he have just killed himself & not others??#like he was counting down while i was on the phone but i couldnt stand hearing the gunshot so i hung up but if i didnt would people still b #alive? then again all those shots couldve been misses or nonfatal wounds #hes probably dead now either way. i guess i was the last person to ever speak to him #idk what to do with all this hence why it is going here

leverage is such a ridiculous show sometimes but it can also be so whimsical. and this is what makes it so great

#more shows that are ridiculous should be whimsical about it #because leverage is the show of all time for me #but it would not be as good if it tried to be more serious while being the same amount of ridiculous. if that makes sense to anyone but me #because yeah the police got to this guy's restaurant 2 seconds after there were shots fired inside and that would simply Not Happen #but also parker joyfully jumped off a roof in the first episode and there is a painting of old nate at the headquarters #and hardison keeps drinking orange soda throughout all five seasons and eliot became a local celebrity on more than one occasion #and sophie's real name isn't even sophie and the whole team tried to steal the same item before they even met #and there was a whole episode in the style of the office #so it doesn't even matter if something is ridiculous or doesn't make sense or would never ever happen in real life. because of the whimsy.#leverage #parker #eliot spencer #alec hardison #nate ford #sophie devereaux #my point is. this is the show of all time actually
