Thoughts from AuDHD left field
507 posts
Late diagnosed AuDHDer... or, as I often tell people, I'm Aud (odd) in high def. With an official diagnosis a couple years ago... in my 40s... my life, complete with quirks, terrible decisions, and many a terrible social faux pas, suddenly made sense... not to mention my habit of jumping from job to job... sometimes with major shifts in the actual career path... And, in case it's not clear from the title... this is a blog of random thoughts that cross my mind, sometimes out of the blue... or left field... and sometimes in response to posts I come across while scrolling... complete with a plethora of ellipses... as they reflect my habit, when speaking, of letting incomplete statements trail off as I mentally scramble to keep my train of thought from completely derailing... so, buckle up... or, in an attempt to keep the mixed metaphors to a minimum... choo choo, mother forkers. she/her

Here’s why disabled people don’t like when books end with a cure. Imagine you’re a gay youth. After searching and searching, you finally find a book that has representation of gay youth. You read through it and it’s totally rad and you can really relate to it. You get to the end, and suddenly, through some miraculous force, they’re straight. Now do you see the problem?

Me: *to my therapist* I had the spoons, so I did heaps of stuff and now I'm so exhausted I feel sick.
My Therapist: This is where you got to treat spoons like cash. Just because you have them, you need to figure out if you have enough to spend, or else you're going to be in debt. Remember, you're autistic, so you regain those spoons slowly and use them quickly. Everything, good and bad, uses that cash for you. You may enjoy the activity but it's going to exhaust you just as much as a bad activity if you're not careful.
Me: Goddamnit....

Went into the notes to specifically find Luigi. Was not disappointed.
Wouldn't it be entirely possible, even likely, that with all the silly weaknesses vampires and stuff were supposed to have, they'd also turn out to be weak to any number of things that have only been invented more recently? Like who's to say vampires aren't also repelled by the smell of play-doh or driven insane by MIDI music? We've invented so much shit in just the last century there'd be NO predicting this. For all we know they burn to ash if they look at Luigi.

having empathy doesn't make someone inherently a good person.
yes, people without empathy or with low empathy are more likely to hurt you without realising, due to the fact we often don't understand how our actions affect you or might make you feel. but that doesn't mean people with empathy are better or never going to hurt people, nor does it mean everyone with low/no empathy will hurt someone or that they should be treated as ‘evil’ if they do.
if anything it just means it's often more malicious when people who do experience empathy hurt you, because they knew the impact it would have and yet still did it anyway.
as someone in my comments recently quoted:
‘the most vicious acts of cruelty require a high degree of empathy.’

It's stupid that OP has to resort to this, but 99.99% of the time, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Also, RB's grandma is a legend.
Today I had the spoons to hunt down my neighborhood council's email and send them an email that basically said "I would like to be able to leave my house but my neighborhood is not wheelchair accessible. Who do I talk to in order to get this fixed?" And I am planning on hunting down whoever is in charge of sidewalks in my neighborhood and getting real annoying about it.
My plan is to email them every time I want to go somewhere but can't.
Email 1: hello, please fix sidewalks so I can ride the bus places I am very passionate about public transportation and also being able to leave my house.
Email 200: This morning I woke up and wanted some delicious coffee to start my day, but upon getting out of bed I discovered we were out of coffee. I would've liked to take advantage of the city's public transportation system in order to support a local business like [examples of local coffee shops] but alas I cannot because I am a wheelchair user and my neighborhood is not wheelchair accessible. [Insert rest of arguement RE accessibility]. In conclusion I don't work I can keep these emails coming until I die please just fix my sidewalks.
This is going to be my new spite hobby. I was already mad about the abuse and general shit hand the disabled get dealt in our culture but then I started using a wheelchair and places like doctor's offices have been inaccessible to me so now I am filled with rage. So I am going to take that rage and do something with it. Like emailing my city counsel representatives at 2 am like "I crave a moonlight walk fix my sidewalks please."

so you dated the wrong person and learned a hard lesson. you chose the wrong major and had to start over again. you cherished a friend who backstabbed you. it sucks, but it’s also going to work out. that’s life; you learn, hurt, love, cry, laugh, and keep going. you experience setbacks and you grow and it’s all okay.

LESS THAN TWO HOURS AGO: four cornell students have been suspended (and at least the one reporting was evicted, unknown about the others) for their involvement with their campus's gaza solidarity encampment. during a school year centering freedom of expression no less!
