Anyways…oh Verdigris, I’ve come up with so many extra bits and pieces to her lore in the past month or so and I didn’t really get to talk about her in the first place, so I’m glad that someone’s interested (this is gonna be so long, I can feel it)

First things first, we’ll get the big thing out of the way: her arcane skill. Kind of a big part of her story is how she is a “plant whisperer”, which means that she’s able to hear the voices of plants and therefore communicate with them. This made her form a prominent sense of empathy for plants, as they are unheard by everyone except her.

(Now, a lot of the things I’ll mention about Verdigris will make a lot more sense)

So a fun little fact is that plants have a “way of speaking” that sounds more poetic than your normal speech, since they’re just describing things based off of what they know from nature. And because of her arcane skill, Verdigris does talk like them a little (which just comes off as being poetic/dramatic). Another thing that comes with this “way of speaking” are “Titles of the Plants”, which is the thing that you remind the plants of, that they therefore refer to you by (Vertin is “The Wandering Wind”, Sonetto is “The Shade in Daylight”, etc).

Why am I mentioning this? Well but of course it’s for yuri reasons! Because this is the perfect way for Verdigris to subtly and sapphic-ly pine for a certain arcanist by the title: Ray of Sun (and who this refers to is not disclosed). She mentions this “Ray of Sun” quite frequently in her diary, which I’d imagine could be one of those pages of text you can find between stages, as well as in her intimacy voiceline (which I haven’t written, but we can imagine, okay).

Anywho…when it comes to interacting with other arcanists, Verdigris is very much the most likeable out of my three ocs here (she’s just a cinnamon roll, not toxic or hard to communicate with). So she gets along with basically everyone in the suitcase. Chaotic or calm, she’s patient enough to talk to them. Tho she’s the closest with Lilya I’d say, since they’re bonding over a shared language/heritage and shut up, it’s adorable. Especially since Verdigris didn’t have anyone to speak Russian to for a long time (she lived in Spain, that’s why) and Russian was her mother’s language (she never got to meet her, so it holds special significance to her (things are getting angsty haha)). This problem was the whole reason she created her own critters actually. But hey, now she has someone and the vibes are good again.

As for their dynamic, it’s obvious that they have a “balancing each other out” situation, and I like to call it “Lilya and her designated driver” as a joke. But truthfully, Verdigris is surprisingly down with most of her shenanigans and no one understands why. Lilya kinda just wants to show Verdigris all the “fun stuff” she usually does, and she just goes along with it while some of the other arcanists watch them in horror (they’re just having a good time tho). When Verdigris is busy, Lilya would go visit her workshop to see what she’s doing like: "What you making, Verdie?:]" (she finds it interesting).

Considering what she does, I feel like Verdigris would probably be crossing paths with Medpoc kinda often as well (hehe). Verdigris just isn’t super affected by Medpoc’s hostility, and still treats them very well after getting yelled at. Once they warm up to her tho, she kinda becomes their emotional support (aka the person they rant to while she hands them a cookie or smth), and they’d pass out together while working across from each other, since neither of them remember to sleep (or do anything else).

I also think that she could help Shamane repair and/or upgrade his mechanical arm (since that’s kinda her specialty), and in turn gain a new father figure. Shamane would definitely like her Dendrogues and greet them when he sees them hopping around as well.

Some honourable mentions are the other calm healers (Dikke and Tooth Fairy). Dikke would grow fond of Verdigris for how fair and thoughtful is, but she'd tell her to not be so tolerant of everything. As for her and Tooth Fairy’s situation, they actually have pretty similar vibes, so they’d probably do some somewhat questionable things together that aren’t so questionable if they’re doing it, like baking together (there’s definitely no tooth fairies in the muffins they’re making, don’t question the taste of plums) and going out into the forest to look for teeth.

Oh right! Verdigris also has a small interaction with Pristine after implanting the new heart she made for her, since Pristine’s original heart (crystal) is the thing that makes her body possessable to Arcana (there’s some context from this post that is needed to understand what I’m talking about). This is a big plot point in Pristine’s story, so guess who’s growing attached to Verdigris. Yeah, she kinda just follows her around whenever she sees her from there on out, maybe even tugs on her sleeve saying “Where art thou headed to? Let me go with thee!” (Welcome to motherhood, Verdigris!)

From the multiverse map, this realm in the same timeline bubble as Empires S2, and is called Aithaca. From the beginning, the three gods were always kind of in conflict, like Ianite could do her thing to try and keep balance, but it was never enough

So she turns to a darker magic that allows her to rid the realm of things that make it unbalanced , a power somewhat too powerful that ends up rendering Mianite and Dianite's powers somewhat obsolete. Mianite has not enough order, Dianite not enough chaos to try and fight back cause if anything becomes unbalanced, Ianite sends her followers to get rid of it.

As a result, Ianite becomes somewhat of a sole goddess as Dianite is imprisoned in the far reaches of the Nether, and Mianite is forced into hiding and becomes a hermit in a deep forest

Ianite’s control is through the mind of Admiral Flash Sparksize, the leader of Ianite’s army- a group of sky pirates dedicated to ensuring a balance of the world, even through violent means

- Unlike most gods and their champions, Ianite speaks to Flash through his head. As a result she can take occasionally take control of him, and read his thoughts

- He’s an incredibly skilled swordsman and melee fighter. As a child of the Eden Dimension, (a pocket dimension btwn the Overworld and Aether) he derives power from the sun/light, and is weaker at night

- Dianite’s champion (who has to brin Dianite back into existence the same way Jordan does with Ianite in S1) is a wither skeleton hybrid named Cassell (Cass for short). He’s friends with Mianite’s two champions Merina and Garrick (names im still not sure of) who came to know of their gods existence when he lead them to him

2 - 31 Ski Lodge a Complaint: There's Been a Murder!

I'm still mindlessly obsessed with Smallarry from TAWOG. But I have no choice but to deem these idiots as #1 OTP for obvious reasons.

IRRATINO: Well, convention’s over. Now it’s my turn to decide an activity again. LOGICO: Or! We could not play dictator and each do what we want. IRRATINO: Come on, Logico, we’ll never get anything done like that. Hey, I have a friend who owns a ski lodge! Let’s go there.

Logico has no choice. Grandmaster Rose, Deacon Verdigris, and Editor Ivory are bundled up for a chilly time. They’re all waiting in line.

IVORY: OH MY GOD-UH! This isn’t going ANYWHERE. VERDIGRIS: Nice RECOMMENDATION, Inspector Irratino. ROSE: I will bump off my next opponent using 1… e5. LOGICO: You’ve been recommending this place to strangers? IVORY: Bruh, we’re not STRANGERS? IRRATINO: It’s usually busier than this, hm… 

He goes into the back room using his special access key he got from who knows where. A dead human is found.

IRRATINO: Ah. That’s why. LOGICO: Well. Um… who’s this ‘friend’ again?  IRRATINO: No that was them. That was the friend. LOGICO: Oh.

Logico is somewhat relieved, because he’s probably not physically capable of skiing anyway. But it’s not like people need to SEE that.

Everyone is waddling around in a puffy jacket, bumping into each other stupidly. Except Logico. He ALWAYS looks like that. 

VERDIGRIS: As a godly woman, I say that Grandmaster Rose brought poisoned hot chocolate.

Rose blushes severely. He hates being compared to Santa Claus!

ROSE: I do not only drink hot chocolate, just because I am a tad round!

Irratino immediately gives him a hug. This makes him more embarrassed!

LOGICO: Stop hugging suspects. 

As Logico goes into the woods, he sees creepy scratch marks on the trees. He feels like if he goes too deep, he’ll never return. And now there are horrible savage noises! He HAS to look here, even if it kills him…

All the scratches and sounds turn out to be Verdigris, who seemingly had a feral attack. She has a few wounds, but just pretends nothing happened. Logico is very scared. 

Irratino climbs all the way up the mountain with a pendulum.

LOGICO: Are you trying to hypnotize… the snow? IRRATINO: HAHAHAHHA! No, Logico. I’m looking for clues in an esoteric manner! LOGICO: Yes yes, your favorite word that doesn’t mean what you think it means.

It turns out it’s not just Verdigris’ own blood on her!

VERDIGRIS: Curse you! The Church wanted this mountain to build a Cathedral that would rival even the one in Holy Drakonia! And you have ruined it! God will curse you, Logico! He’ll curse you for this!

Logico is shaken when she brings up Drakonia. The place seems to have affected him a lot more than he initially thought. And her savage attack… He has a flashback to when Marble uttered him a creepy warning (before following him home).

IRRATINO: Oh, Logico, don’t worry. Even if God curses you, I still love you. LOGICO: Good… to know.

I LOVE messing around with species-specific traits in this series. There are so many gags that would make zero sense if they were human and it's so much fun

Spoilers for the apothecary diaries light novels volumes 5-7

So, I binge readed volumes 5-7 of the apothecary diaries light novels. Here's my observations/opinions:

- Lishu needs to be protected. She did nothig wrong. I like that her pos father didn't just magicaly grow to love her after 5th book. He basically sold her to former emperor and tried to do it again when she was 11. I wish emperor would simply say the rumors are true even if they are not related so lishu could be permanently protected from u clan's head ( but I gusse it would be scandal and negatively impact imige of emperor). Bc Lishu is his and a dao second child. At the same time, he should simply never put lishu in this tower. He should sand her to a dao. My main negative though is that I wish that we would hear this possible emperor child rumor before vol 5.

- Basen and Lishu are perfect for each other. They are literally european knight-lady coded with romeo and juliet sprinkle into it. To be fair I wish that we maybe got one more interaction between them before the tower. Also instead of romeo and juliet it would be really fitting to use Lancelot and Guinevere or tristan and isolde.

- kokuyou, sazen and chou-u are fine addition to the maomao family at verdigris house. Not gonna lie, I wish that we expended more on potential maternal side of maomao family. You are telling me that Granny was mistress to previous owner of verdigris house and now her son? owns the business. It would be interesting to see him interact with his niece? and maybe offer us explanation why fangxian was still around ( also it would show potential duble standards that men have in knh world where previous owner and granny's son inherited his fortune their daughter wasn't granted as much opportunities. Assuming that they are full siblings).

- kokuyou is comic relief to the degree that he must simply hide something. Somewhere there is wardrobe full of skeletons. Also, given whole volume 7th resolution, I wish we didn't have crossdressing kokuyou at the beginning. But him and sazen... I kind of ship them

- speaking of queer characters. I don't know how I feel about En'en. Her fixation on yao's chasts size is awful and the fact that yao is 15yo is fack up. First Parin then En'en why wlw is presented that way is unknown to me

- Jinshi casually mentioned that he was almost sa by eunuch on his first day as jinshi. It's draw parallels between this and maomao freckles situation. Inner court being this distorted, fancy mirror of red light district is alweys interesting take.

- Quack doctor doesn't deserve to be this comic relief character. He is more the man then most of the officials (cougt cougt uryuu). He protected his family and I wish he got at least one major medical related win. Not gonna lie whole episode in his home village was you typical shounen filler and he deserves more. He is volume one character and he was always kind to maomao. Justice for Guen.

- Lahan and Maomao are so much alike that they are acting like siblings even when they are activlly trying to not. But, I hope that maomao predictions about Lahan an her and jinshi potentia l child are only her assumptions. Also, is lahan supposed to be bi? Jinshi is one thing but his interaction with kokuyou is also giving this vibe. But my crack ship after volume 7 is lahan x aylin. She played him but for the brief moment that they were working together they were giving me power couple vibe. And they weren't even in the same scene other then first meeting in western capital.

- also, is there magical element in my apothecary diaries? Don't know how I feel about this.

- lastly, maomao and jinshi relationship is so confusing. Why the author wrote this scene at the end of vol 5 is mystery to me. They could kiss normally why add this dubious undertones to this. Also, I wish that they interacted more after that, but this proclamation from jinshi at the end was nice. Last thing, why emperor don't tell jinshi/yue that jinshi is his and a dao son? Jinshi is acting reckless and we know that if he learn the truth it might fix most of his self esteem issues ( it might make them worst but still). Emperor for all we know still wants a dao's son to inherit the throne, so give the boy truth.

Overall, it’s a fun read that keeps you interested all the way until the end!

Glorious Closer (Ultimate): - "Let this sparkling bliss end your night, mon cheri."

Mass attack. Deals 400% Reality DMG. If [Plant Fiber] is at 6 or more stacks, consumes 6 stacks and casts either [Sucessful Prototype] or [Fibrous Friend] (depending on circumstances).

[Plant Fiber]: Gain [Plant Fiber] when any team member actively uses a character incantation or when an ally takes an extra action.

[Failed Prototype]: The target’s Critical Resist -25 and is unable to score critical hits.

[Successful Prototype]: Critical Resist +25 and +40% Critical Rate for all allies. [Successful Prototype] is cast when more [Plant Fiber] are obtained from character incantations than extra actions.

[Fibrous Friend]: All DMG from enemy attacks deflect and redirect back onto the enemy team for one round. [Fibrous Friend] is cast when more [Plant Fiber] are obtained from extra actions than incantations.

Forge World Repleator is a minor forge world, with the main purpose of food processing. Surrounded by multiple agri-worlds, Repleator gathers the produce, processes it (puts it in cans, dries it, makes nutrient slurry, you know the deal) and then ships it out to the wider imperium. The Ordo Biologis is highly prevalent here, keeping an eye on the biological processes of plant growth and providing aid to maximise production on the nearby worlds. The planet shines like an emerald when seen from orbit, green sand dunes surround the spires and forges of the mechanicus, all of which coated in a thick layer of patina, with the newer buildings reflecting the light of the system's twin suns on shiny brass doors and rooftiles. Repleator has (or at least had, before the mechanicus arrived) large natural copper deposits, giving the planet its signature colouration. The mechanicus living here, who have been using this copper to make their buildings, tools and people, have long since found out that copper patina does not degrade metal like rust does, but instead forms a protective layer. As such, they have come to associate the green verdigris as a sign of the Omnissiah's protection, which has made them disenvow the red robes of Mars in favour of greens.
