I was Elvis's doll, his own living doll, to fashion as he pleased. The more we were together the more I came to resemble him in every way. His tastes, his insecurities, his hang-ups — all became mine. My sole ambition was to please him, to be rewarded with his approval and affection. When he criticized me, I fell to pieces. - PRISCILLA PRESLEY

"rancher, huh?" kaj takes a minute to envision it, smile small. "i can see that. animals love the gentle ones. you'd be good at it." rex may growl at him now and then 'cause of the beret, but the courier has seen the dog tail craig around the 38 with love in his eyes. kaj thinks craig must remind rex of his first owner. "what happened to 'em? your folks, i mean."
Tumblr media
he wants to know about her? she pauses, realizing she has nothing prepared. shit. for once, boone has kaj on the back foot. in that moment of hesitation, truth swims to the surface.
"...my parents traveled around when i was young. i loved it. there were these...massive canyons, full of green. when it rains, they flood quick and you can drown, if you ain't careful." every sinew of kaj's body is angry at her for telling the truth, but once she starts, it pours.
"when i left my parents, i was...just a stupid kid, really. i should've died. but this woman, kim...she took me in. she's the one i learned all this from. we used to come up this way and take samples of the soil, the trees. seemed like she knew everything." kaj looks up at the trees, expression pensive. "i joined the ncr so i could be like her. wish i could go back and change my own mind." her tone is bitter; in her reverie, she's forgotten the i'm neutral about the ncr and i definitely don't resent my time in service front she puts on for craig.
Boone's first answer was a tilt of his head akin to a nod-- an easy agreement, almost as if he never considered not going out and exploring with her.
Really, the sniper looked at ease here: hard not to be with the smell of grass and dirt and vibrant color beating down on him. Even he had a soul to nourish somewhere. So it was with that ease that he answered with a slight bob of his shoulders in a shrug. "Basically grew up in a desert, yeah. Open fields, not much other than Brahmin and dirt. ...Lived on a ranch."
Tumblr media
"We had some... spindly dead looking things. Nothing like this." A pause, and he licked his lips as if testing to see how the next words would taste. "...What about you?"

Katara, We Have a Problem
Zuko: Hey, Katara. You know how you’re getting married to Aang in a few days?
Katara: Yes.
Zuko: *Hands her photos* There might be a problem.
Katara: *Eyes widen* Where did you find these?
Zuko: I was packing up my stuff for the wedding and I haven’t traveled in a while-
Katara: Zuko, focus!
Zuko: They were in one of the small pockets.
Katara: Which means this is from-
Zuko: Our trip from 3 years ago? Yeah.
Katara: How could this happen?!?
Zuko: If I recall, we were very drunk-
Katara: I know the events leading up to it Zuko! I meant who forgets they got married in Vegas?!?!
Zuko: …
Katara: *Huffs* What?
Zuko: The suitcase also had our wedding rings.
Katara: Zuko!

headcanon for sydcarmy that I've had for months now that i was reminded of rewatching Fools Rush In yesterday (rip Matthew Perry) and reading @ambeauty 's new fanfic.
i love the unplanned pregnancy trope with them and also the idea that they would do every milestone backwards or hit them super fast in terms of their relationship. hear me out
what i love about sydney and carmy is how intense they are about each other while not knowing each other for that long. carmy spends braciole acting like a heartbroken widower and ends the episode by planning on revamping his family restaurant with a girl he's only known for a couple months. the restaurant dream he thought died with his brother, the person he loved the most (woah). while sydney is her most emotionally vulnerable with a guy she barely knows (and physically too, i.e the hug after the fire suppression test and the table scene) and constantly gives him second chances when he doesn't deserve them.
they are weird and intense about each other even with all these platonic and professional boundaries they put in place.
in my mind that is rotting from tumblr and ao3, when those boundaries disappear they will do the relationship shit on speed drive. oops they get pregnant after a few months of dating or a situationship. whats having a baby when you have a restaurant? they are already the mom and dad of the bear!
they would elope randomly on a tuesday afternoon after dating for a couple months bc they practically eat sleep live and breathe each other every single day anyways? carmy tells syd he doesn't want to wait when he already knows she's it for him. syd says he's crazy but she may just be crazier for agreeing (also grew up with hearing her parents love story who got married super young and fast so why cant she?)
oh they just started dating a few days ago? syd moves in or they start looking for new places. shes already here all the time when they menu plan. carmy already buys her fave snacks, subscribes to a couple streaming services for the first time bc syd loves to binge-watch shows, and has a couple of her scarves laying around.
and i love that this could go really bad, how intense and how much they love each other (bc im an angst enjoyer) or most likely really great bc these two losers want to practically live in each other's skin and make each other better.
side note: after watching fools rush in again...need a sydcarmy au bc the premise of two people from different cultures, values and perspectives foolishly rushing into a big thing like opening a restaurant having a baby is so them!

Two Headed Mother- I have no fucking clue wha tis going on in this song but IT GOES HARD the YOU KNOOOW s Are insane Honestly her voice is soo good in this song muah Also I could murder someone to this song
GODS COUNTRY- Currently my favourite Ethel song if i had spotifu premium it would be on repeat until i ruined it for myself so maybe its for the best lol. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SONG Wicker Springs Eternal does soooo good their voices sound so good together, My favorite bits are the "highway to nowhere" That entire verse and also the "Dont sink into me with your dog teeth" Both the buildup and the screaming of it 100000/10

Okay, here goes: How did Elvis hide "little Elvis" while wearing those white jumpsuits on stage in Vegas. Any ideas? 😳
I love questions like these haha, thank you so much for the ask!! <3
and as confirmed by Marty Lacker and Lamar Fike and several photos of Elvis’ butt, he often wore dancer’s briefs underneath his jumpsuits. Elvis was known for going commando, and we have almost every movie he made as proof of that (iykyk) but sadly that didn’t translate to his concerts 😭
this pictured excerpt is from “Elvis and the Memphis Mafia” and it also shows why I take issue with Lamar Fike !! He was one of the main sources for Albert Goldman’s “Elvis” yet he constantly says that Goldman would alter what he said or didn’t tell the full truth- I still don’t understand why he would ever work with Goldman in the first place (Lamar did admit it was all for money so that explains it but I can’t believe he would let a book that had so many untrue/exaggerated things written about Elvis just for a check🤧)
Tumblr media
like how are you going to complain about what Goldman wrote when you were his main source
but anyways- enjoy this picture of his visible briefs that I added to my family’s digital photo frame so every once and a while his butt pops up amongst all the family photos lmaoo

if you see the priscilla movie as an elvis fan and come out whining about how the big bad sofia coppola wolf is out to get elvis and his legacy i think you somehow saw a wildly different movie than i just did. as someone who has read the book 50 times i honestly think sofia restrained herself. i love elvis and i’m…the happiest ive been in weeks. people are not lying about the end being rushed LOL but ^that’s^ my biggest complaint here.
how could i as an elvis fan complain when we finally got an on screen portrayal of him bulldozing the old house in a football helmet and woowoo larry geller!

the way i feel like e has genuinely made me a better, stronger person this year to the point where it's now so entwined in my being i can't imagine how i'd have found certain moments of resiliency or been willing to examine situations with further room for subtlety and ease of forgiveness than i might even have before and he waited around patiently on the edges until he knew he was most needed and it's felt so healing and so connected to the part of my being that was made to intrinsically love music and

"She Thinks I Still Care" (Single B-side, 1976/1977)
Recording date: February 2, 1976. Release dates: December 1976 (single) / June 19, 1977 (album, "Moody Blue")
youtube
RECORDING SESSION Sessions for RCA, February 2–8, 1976: The Jungle Room, Graceland, Memphis The next number, “She Thinks I Still Care,” a George Jones standard by Memphis songwriter Dickey Lee, offered more of the same. The musicians tried adding more rhythm and new vocal parts, but finally returned to the original’s slow country feel.
Tumblr media
RCA’s red recording van docked behind Graceland, early 1977, for what's became known as the "Jungle Room recording sessions". Picture and excerpt taken from book "Elvis Presley: A Life in Music" by Ernst Jorgensen (1998)
PREVIOUS RECORDINGS George Jones (1962)
First-time released as an A-side single (flip side "Sometimes You Just Can't Win") on April 14, 1962.
youtube
Connie Francis — "He Thinks I Still Care" (1962) B-side single (flip side to "I Was Such a Fool (To Fall in Love with You)"
Francis released her cover as a single in September 1962, a few months after George Jones first released the song. The lyrics this time had been slightly changed to match the performer's gender (gender flip: male to female).
youtube
Anne Murray — "He Thinks I Still Care" (1973-1974) As released in her 1973 Danny's Song album, and again as a single in 1974.
Elvis was a great fan of female voices in music; as such, among other artists, he admired Anne Murray's work in country music, so one wonders whether he chose to record "She Thinks I Still Care" after hearing Murray's cover on her 1973 album or some other artist previous release, considering other than George Jones and Connie Francis, more big names in the record business such as Cher, Jerry Lee Lewis and Glen Campbell had also released their covers of this tune prior to Elvis' However, Anne Murray's cover was the latest release of the song recorded by a strong name in the music industry regarding the period in which Elvis would release his cover version (late 1976), therefore it's highly probable that Presley took knowledge of Anne's recording and then became interested in covering the song himself, even if he had listened to other previous released versions as well. This is all merely speculation from my part since I haven't read anything yet addressing the origin for Elvis' interest in this specific song but, if you'd ask me, I'd say that letting aside the difference in gender in the lyrics concerning Murray's recording and his own, Elvis' version ("She Thinks I Still Care") sounds much more like Anne's version than the original recording by George Jones', IMHO.
Anne Murray naturally followed Connie Francis' 1962 female version of the lyrics for "She Thinks I Still Care" in her recording.

ELVIS RELEASE 💿 "She Thinks I Still Care" by Elvis Presley was first released on the latter part of 1976 as B-side to the title-track of the then-upcoming album release, "Moody Blue" (1977).

Singles sleeve "Moody Blue"/"She Thinks I Still Care" (1976); LP cover: "Moody Blue" (1977)
"She Thinks I Still Care" — LYRICS Oh, just because I asked a friend about her Just because I spoke her name somewhere Just because I rang her number by mistake today You know she thinks I, I still care And just because I haunt the same old places (same old places) Where the memories of her linger everywhere Just because I'm not the happy guy I used to be Lord, you know, she thinks I still care Well, if she's happy thinking I still need her Yea, let that silly notion bring her cheer Oh how could she ever be so foolish Tell me where did she get, Lord such an idea Yeah, oh Lord Just because I asked a friend about her And you know, just because I spoke her name somewhere Just because, Lord I saw her and went to pieces Lord, you know, she thinks I, Lord, still care You know, she thinks I, I still care Lord, she thinks I still care Oh no, she thinks I still care
Lyricist: Dickey Lee/Steve Duffy

After Elvis and Priscilla divorced she was told to drop his last name but after he died she changed it to milk off of him
now that’s calculated levels of evil! the estate didn’t sue her for that? (can you sue someone for that? maybe not) imagine getting married to a woman who refused to let go of her ex man’s last name just because he was uber famous…idk if she ever remarried but if she hasn’t, that’s probably why lmaooo. it’s going to take her dying to finally get her hands off that elvis coin that’s for sure. (but we all know what that tombstones going to read: presley!) (other side note, isn’t she going to be buried right next to elvis when she dies too- or, at least close to him? talk about obsessed!)

marauders favorite artists and other music-related headcanons totally not based on me being obsessed with late60s-70s music
james potter: yes, jethro tull, steely dan, donna summers, billy joel, the kinks, van halen
i think james would listen to anything and everything tbh, he’s he epitome of eclectic music taste to me, he has his faves obvs but he honestly enjoys all of his friends' faves too totally didn’t put billy joel there because of only the good die young...
sirius black: the rolling stones, queen, led zepellin, ac/dc, black sabbath, KISS, judas priest
i imagine sirius loving black dog by led zeppelin and saying that it’s his song even b4 completing his animagus transformation and it only gets worse after that
remus lupin: elton john, the beatles, david bowie, the who, the doors, boston, joy division
remus lupin would f*cking love people are strange FIGHT ME. post-1981 remus would listen to a lot of joy division, and i swear im not just saying that cause ian curtis gives off remus vibes to me
peter pettigrew: alvin stardust, the rubettes, blue öyester cult, genesis, squeeze
putting blue öyster cult for peter and just picturing sirius saying something like he's shocked peter finally developed some good taste 100% did not put BÖC for peter because of career of evil idk what ure talking about
lily evans: fleetwood mac, marvin gaye, the beatles, creedence clearwater revival, ABBA, neil young, barry manilow
this is 100% a stolen hc from a microfic but lily thinks something by the beatles is the peak of romantic lyricism (btw if u know what microfic i’m talking about pls tell me, cause i can’t find it anywhere) lily and remus like the beatles because it reminds them of their moms
mary macdonald: the beach boys, bee gees, fleetwood mac, nina simone, stevie wonder, eric clapton, diana ross
i think mary and lily had a pretty similar music taste and gave recs to each other when they discovered new songs lily and mary saw eric clapton live in 1978 and ABBA in 1975 (i wanted them to see fleetwood mac live but the dates of their UK concerts just don't really work, unless i put them going to a concert in 1980 which seems a bit weird to me cause yk the war)
marlene mckinnon: the clash, heart, sweet, thin lizzy, pink floyd, the damned, x-ray spex
marlene listens to psycho killer by the talking heads non-stop and everyone groans when she puts it on; sirius gets it because he does the same with killer queen marlene introduces thin lizzy to sirius and james and the three of them saw them live on the 1977 Reading Rock Festival
