Theresa is not superstitious. It's easy not to be, in a small boring town like hers, until it isn't anymore. Scott McCall makes first line, Allison Argent blows into town, and suddenly everything is topsy turvy.

There is, first of all, the devastation of watching her crush get a girlfriend. She knows she doesn't have a claim on Scott, obviously, but that's kind of the worst part; even if she'd made a move, it wouldn't have mattered. When she got hit with a lacrosse ball last year during their shared practice, he'd run to help her, and a year later, she still couldn't stop thinking about it; Scott, on the other hand, was always helping someone do something, and probably hadn't thought about it since. She wasn't rooting for the guy to be unhappy, obviously, but pining had been a lot easier when no one else noticed him.

There is also the unfortunate fact that Theresa, generally, seems to be noticing a lot more these days. It's hard to accept that the rash of attacks in her town are really animals when she keeps seeing flashes of men with teeth. It's hard to focus when her thigh itches even though there's no scab there. It's hard to enjoy school dances when she has the deep, deep feeling that something is wrong. It's hard to talk to her friends when none of them are seeing what she's seeing and it's hard to figure out what she knows about what's going on when she has gaps in her memory. She'd read once that brains will sometimes do that to protect you, but she doesn't feel safer.

But it doesn't matter. Men don't have sharp teeth and she doesn't have any marks on her body and superstitions don't mean anything. This will pass, as it always does, and Beacon Hills will be boring again.

If Lydia Martin hadn't almost bled out on the lacrosse field the night of the formal, she might've been able to believe that.

its so funny this is the album taylor is really talking up the songwriting on she actually doesn’t understand that it’s bad…. i think one of her many many problems really is that she just has horrible taste. it’s always affected her album covers and looks (allergic to serving etc) but now it’s seemingly fully preventing any good music from being made. lite its not ONLY about her cynically mass producing songs, she also does seem to think this album above the others is beautiful and true and tortured (lol) poetry…….

That sounds like taking a quote about a three year old really far, in my opinion. I think she was just a bit spoiled, being the youngest girl and all, I mean how do we know for sure those parakeets were for Angelica and not Holly? We don't, I mean it would be a weird gift for a toddler, but there was one time the Laurens' gave Polly a pair of scissors as a gift. Also just in general, Holly seems to have been a bit bossy, and the “tyrant sister” of the family (Pestering John about the biographies, keeping in contact with everyone, and just taking care of Angelica and her mom). There is a letter to her aunt where she calls herself “The mean chaste” in Dutch, so clearly she had a reputation amongst the family circle (She also reprimands her own aunt in the same letter about something). So really, she was likely just that sister that wanted to be in control of things.

​it is in fact for the series "young wizards" by di/ane dua/ne (also of homoerotic star trek novelization fame), a ya series from the 80s that starts out as "new york teens discover Science Magic" and veers instantly off into catholic apologetics

the latter i figured out only late in life because i was a very jewish child, so in the meantime i imprinted on the books very hard and then developed an obsessive slate of resentments toward various features all of which are fully explicable by the fact that it's actually just an extremely catholic book series

however it's too late for that knowledge to save me so instead ive spent several years very slowly writing a story about how being a high-achieving self-sacrificing teen, ready at all times to be chosen by god and then die, cannot save you from having a mental health crisis derail your college applications. and also that bisexual threesomes can solve personal problems
