im super wishy-washy on whether i want that to commit to that being the end, but it certain is an end. Because theres a build up that leads into lana being ovidias end that i feel needs to be mentioned first

as i think more on ovidia as a person and their history, a lot of it shapes their perception on a perfect life including a "perfect" family and i think they end up subconsciously projecting a lot of it onto Lana and she does try to mold herself into this image of a perfect child for her Baba

but because ovidia isnt being truthful about even to themself about why they do what they "have to" whether its leading their followers the way they with a lot of manipulation and making them believe in this image of a perfect Mother and family that they've carefully curated, or even how they specifically talk to and treat their children and why there is almost a clear sense of favoritism that is kind of always there

this denial is also the reason their ascension is slow and unpleasant, because a process that would not normally take more than maybe a century or two to even begin is being stretched out because theyre actively fighting the crown against it. it isnt apart of their plan, of ovidias plan. so any changes that come from ascending are painful and slow and its entirely because ovidia is so deep in denial of their true self

they dont want to think theyre playing favorites, and its not obvious to anyone but Narinder at first that they view the kids very differently from each other and while hes tries to talk about it ovidia just has a way of icing him out because they just flat out will not admit it.

and this is the point i realized that there are two diverging paths for them, and if they accept and realize where it comes from and why theyre doing this they have the capacity to at least start to mend the damage theyve made which at that point wouldnt be until Lana is already an older child (like 10-12)

or they never address it and never change, they stagnate in their ability to ascend and unbeknownst to them, the crown had always taken a liking to Lana and her innate interest in death and murder, and naturally has been putting thoughts into that childs head for longer than ovidia would have guessed

and it wouldnt be until lana is older, and is acknowledged by her baba to be a grown and capable person that its basically the final nail in the coffin. Lanas mental check list is finished for the developmental part of her own life, now all thats left is to become an usurper, just like their idol!

To hear that his efforts are essentially meaningless and that he's considered a monster anyways by them is a guaranteed way to make him break down.

For some specific instances, any variation of hearing that Bhaal would be proud of him and the person he's become would be devastating. Hearing Karlach break down and talk about how she'd prefer to die than go to Avernus, after Dirge just finished killing the last person who REALLY knew him for Karlach's sake (the person who made their relationship possible by building the foundation Dirge needed to genuinely care about another person), after just having killed his only sister and died to keep Minthara safe from Bhaal's machinations, destroyed him. To have sacrificed so much, all of the people he knew and loved, for the sake of the people he loves NOW and the life hes trying to build for them, and to hear that Karlach can't stand the idea of trying to hold out for him to make her a cure? Devastating. He didn't cry when Orin died, couldn't, because that kind of vulnerability had been beaten out of him for years. But Karlach's breakdown on top of it? Thats the straw that breaks the camels back, and he collapses into a sobbing mess.

Do Not Perceive Him. Dirge HAAATES being famous, he hates people wanting to talk to him when he doesn't need anything from them, he hates people asking him questions or favors because he saved Baldur's Shithole, he hates being recognized (difficult because hes VERY distinctive with the horns and scars and tattoo), he hates literally everything to do with fame and glory. If you don't know him and you're remembering him for something, he's fucked up somehow.

Generally tho, he'd liked to be remembered as a lifelong companion and loved one. Its really the only impression he tries hard to leave. Itd be hard though, cuz he's immortal and he'll usually be the ones remembering them.

🌟 GLOWING STAR - what do they think about when they look at the night sky? is there someone they want to star gaze with?

His patron Caiphon! Caiphon was his "wish upon a star" that ended with him being freed from Bhaal entirely, and as such he always looks for Caiphon's star in the heavens. Hes usually the only one that can find it, owing to his prior contact. But even without Caiphon, he just generally enjoys the night sky. Hes developed quite an appreciation for the celestial heavens ever since he traded his eye to an eldritch god beyond the constraints of reality.

Dirge wouldn't mind star gazing with anyone, but he does want to compare constellations with Lae'zel, and show Minthara the night sky. Its easier on his eyes than the daytime, and he can identify quite a few celestial bodies. A life in the Underdark has its own vistas and natural treasures, but the night sky in all its splendor is something only the surface can offer, and even if Minthara doesn't wish to know his patron, Dirge can at least offer her a view that can't be beat. Somethin to make her choice to stay on the surface worth it

asters the one who trys to fight for him back. she makes up new reasons and such as to why hes not gone, ways they could possibly bring him back (it doesnt help that in this state she sounds so much like him about his brother). she looks through her dads artifact collections, seeing if any would make sense in any way to bring him back to life, losing care of its cost. she even tries to find his book or something of its nature, but finding that, if even possible, doesnt help because its a book made to kill not bring to life again. i dont imagine asters religious, not in the sense that she doesnt think gods are real (one is her mother), but that she never felt a pull to worship one. for the first time in her life, she tries to pray. she prays to her mother, reciting every word and performing every detail, squishing the tears from her eyes because god she cant let herself be seen so broken by this boy infront of a divine being and sure its the first time shes tried reaching out like this but she just needs one chance to talk to her. of course, whether or not it works and she sees her, she doesnt revive him. the day doesnt reset and he comes back to life. and somewhere inside her she knows this couldnt have worked, shes the daughter of a goddess and knows the balance of mortality and immortality. shes known he was gone the moment the rats attacked. thats why she fought so hard, because the small amounts of divine energy she held surely could beat what has been written by those above her just this once, just for him.

☕️ CGI vs practical effects

oh practical effects win over cgi like almost everyyy time. i think there is a place and a really good one for cgi though, especially when it works well and Makes the movie possible like in terminator 2 for instance! and as a huuuuugeeeeee practical effects warrior i do prefer and strive for practical effects to be used and think theyre severely underutilized now but i LOVE 90s-early 2000s shitty cgi sooo much its not so much a "guilty" pleasure of mine but it kiiinddd of is because i really really love it lol and even think its kinda lame to be reallyyy genuinely upset or turned off by it no matter what like 😭 its fun its silly sometimes live a liiitttleee.. like think about buffy the vampire slayer and stuff like that ouuu its just too good its classicccc!!! but more importantly practical effects should and do have a place in film TO THIS DAY And they did during the uprise of cgi then and now and they will Forever and should be utilized a LOT more and i think they often do look and feel a lot better especially when it comes to gore and such. i think cgi blood is a hard pill to swallow like 99% of the time, but its a little funny and fun sometimes its very video game-y to me and so cheap and so bad 😭 too many times its used when fake blood is just so much cooler and better, even with the clean up! like come onnn.. i also think creatures and the like should be practical again even if theres slight cgi usage to polish certain things up or whatever i just want practical creatures back!!!! theyre so awesome!!!! and itd be awesome if things wereenttt soooo polished!! it all takes a loooottt of work and resources but god the payoff.... its so worth it and i wish more filmmakers these days took that into account and had a passion for it. i am so happy that especially in horror a lot of movies Have been going back to the basics and pouring time and work and money into making things practical :-) yaaaayy!!!

If guerra hadn’t slept in a week or brushed her hair and her eyes were kind of red around the rims. maybe you wont have notes for god. you converse very seriously with god, or you fucking TRY to, because god is being very rude and keeps blowing off your conversation to flag down what you GUESS is an angel, but the angel looks a lot like your potions teacher so heaven is turning out way weirder than you expected, and you barely even had any expectations, because you’re barely religious to begin with. you conk out again.

Leon becoming the king rambles

I haven't finished the entirety of everyone's stories (I just did the mainstory for all 12) but I've been thinking about Leon's final story where he ascends to the king status.

more info dumping theories below. Also I could be wrong like again I have not finished anyone's story completely pls correct me if im wrong

From what I've seen he becomes king of the heavens and is given a new set of stars (the king star).

It makes me wonder who's taking over as minister of wishes/ruler of leo. He did give MC the Leo constellation for her to become a god iirc. It's funny bcuz its almost like his name correlates to a lion and itd probably get confusing from there. Also MC has aquarius in one of her eyes so I wonder if it just went back to hue after this.

Would Vega or Karno become minister? Would it be MC? Would the departments even be a thing when he's king or would he fundamentally just change everything.

If leon becomes the new king/becomes omnipotent, wouldn't he just be forced to live like the king, always hidden away and alone because he literally sees and knows all. Only left a victim of watching things happen until ppl come up to you for more. Letting curiosity roam free as you have infinite power to do anything. A move of his hand and things are gone. Is he even himself at this point or does the curse of infinite knowledge and power catch up.

This also dives into Leon as a character. He's portrayed as lazy and uninterested (on mondays or smthn) at first. He's also shown as a hard worker and genuinely tries to be just and fair. Whenever a god is in trouble he always makes a stand towards Zyg and the King. Most of his character arc is Leon trying to understand that he can trust MC/other people and that they care for him as a person, not a mighty powerful being. Despite his attitude towards everything, Leon is just a character who has to learn to undo his past ways of thinking that were hurting him and the people around him (and he does healthily learn). Leon's behavior is also very cat-like.

Would he be able to keep all the progress he made in a position similar to where he was most hurt.

He also marries mc and has a kid in that route so ig there's that. From what I've seen he changes a few things to allow everything to go smoothly.

Also to note Star-crossed myth has generally happy endings and is on positive notes most of the time compared to other god media being nitty gritty. I may be reading too deep into this to cope with the bad ending of a new video game. For some reason I really love fics/concepts with the scm gods that are tragic like actual mythology/fairytales

I just consumed a bunch of different media that dealt with characters becoming omnipotent gods and it never ends well.

Most of the times characters who ascend to higher status are just left as watchers, in new forms, only watching what once was and what they once had. No one knows if the previous versions of themselves are still there, or just apart of something bigger now.

There was one fan excerpt where the chars of the show were just yelling at the sky/showing the sky items they bought. They did this hoping to show their old friend who had became an omnipotent god said items, and having no idea if they saw it or not. The ex-partner of the person who ascended also spent a majority of the show trying to speak to them again. Even if they weren't together it was the act of love that stayed.

In a new video game that just came out, theres a character who has a really traumatic backstory and has the option to stop their abuser and 'ascend' to a position like their captor. The entire arc of this specific character relies on them making their own choices for once and not being apart of someones plan, and you as the player have the option to watch them make their choice to ascend or try to change their mind. When this character ascends it literally cursed them into continuing their cycle of abuse and losing themselves in the process. Spent the entire game going through character development only for a ritual to just undo everything hahaha imissthemsomuch one thing ascending did was take away their sense of humor and ability to be nice.

tldr Leon probably pissed off Zyglavis somehow and Zyg gave leon the 'ultimate punishment' and took himself out of the competition. The punishment being the weight of the crown.

honestly if mac and dennis could be responsible pet owners (theyll never be.) i think theyd LOVE having a snake. i know theyd go for a ball python because theyre more stereotypically "snake" than some other pet trade species, but frankly i think theyd do best with a hognose. theyre pretty social (with humans. dont keep hognoses together in a tank) idiots with huge attitude and they look god damn adorable. hognoses would also be great for them because they tend to be more food motivated! its also good for snakes to just take them out and like. set them on your bed n just chill or talk with em for an hour or so. thatd be great for mac.

i personally think that mac will only hook up with you as a fellow man if you a) can pass as older than him or b) look like dennis. yeag i think he, consciously or not, goes for people that have similar traits to dennis, physically or personality wise. if dennis let himself accept that he cares a bit too much about who mac is dating, that little fact would single-handedly make macdennis canon. dennis would tell mac to just date him if he wanted to date him so badly

not entirely a headcanon but i imagine almost all of the gang besides maybe frank has methods for getting dennis to regulate his diet a bit more instead of eating like 1 meal a day. i think mac can get dennis to eat or drink just about anything by just giving it to him in conversation. he'll just let dennis talk his ear off and continually hand him chips or fruit or even drinks or nearly any drug at all. having a small bite or drink or hit during conversation is such a reinforced habit that its natural to the both of them now.

i think dee does it by purposefully playing into her status of being "below" dennis. she'll complain about being too weak to open a peanut shell or something and he'll snatch it and do it to prove hes better and out of habit maybe has a little bite. though i imagine if theyre inebriated in any way its as easy as genuinely just feeding it to him. dennis will never admit it, because he hates his sister, but he trusts her.

joyce i think can get dennis to eat just by getting alone with him. she provides a bubble of decompression and a lack of worry for him. its also insanely easy for her to just offer dennis a huff of whatever inhalant shes been having fun with that day and i imagine that makes things easier as well

i think you could pretty easily get mac into nerd shit. just have some pretty boy be a little nerdy. get him to watch star trek itd be life changing for him even if i think a good amount of it would fly over his head at times. ttrpgs and roleplaying in general i think would be big for him

Well, thats because I usually read on the bus and during my classes and then I come home and summarize my thoughts on the 2-5 chapters I read after theyve marinated in my head for a little while, but unfortunately i appear to be incapacited at the moment so I cant do that. But because its been weeks and I dont wanna forget anything and I would very much like to finish this series soon, I'll try to read at home sometimes from now on. Since my brain is still a lil mush Im gonna do what I did for my last post, which is write down what Im thinking as Im reading instead of summarizing all my thoughts retroactively, except this time I have my german copy on hand so if I want to quote something it'll be a translation

Chapter 40

Ive been wanting to say this for a while now but i kept forgetting, but they translated 'winnowing' as 'den Wind spalten' ['splitting the wind'] and that is objectively so much cooler, shoutout to my gal Alexandra Ernst for that

Feyre being like "ugh, its so pathetic how these human guards think they could stand a chance against even one of us" hurts me so much you guys what have they done to my girl

Once again, its apparently perfectly fine if Rhysand doesnt tell Feyre anything "because she never asked" but if Tamlin doesnt tell her anything when she never asked hes the devil

Also once again, Feyre is perfectly not-triggered at Mor wearing a scarlet dress

Idk how to explain this, but Rhysand saying that Feyre is wearing a golden crown because "she looks so good with it, how could he not give her one" is somehow the perfect encapsulation of the hollowness of her High Lady title

Oh, of course three of the queens only showed up to watch the other two talk, itd be too hard to write dialogue if they actually participated in this important conversation

everytime the oldest queen does anything the prose feels the need to remind me of how old and wrinkly she is and its like, i get it, shes OLD

The oldest queen is spitting so hard rn, Im not even gonna question how they heard of the night court when Feyre, who lived closest to Prythian for many years, didnt know anything aout the individual courts prior to getting there herself, Im just gonna put her whole little monologue here: "Oh? [...] The High Lord of the Night Court asks that we join him so that we can save lives together? Fight for peace? And what about the lives that you have taken during your long, despicable existance? What about the High Lord who shrouds himself in darkness and destroys the mind of those who stand in his way? [...] We have heard of you on the continent, Rhysand. We have heard of what the Court of Night is capable of, what you do to your enemies. Peace? I wouldn't have thought that you - a man who enslaves the minds of others and kills them out of pure enjoyment - even know that word."

Anyway, she was spitting absolute bars and Feyre gets super mad about it and almost commits arson but manages to reign herself in and its like girlie, why are you so upset? one of the first things we find out about the night court in this book is that they apparently indiscriminately kill (or atleast torture) anyone who crosses the night court border without permission like theyre the fucking us government, i think the bad reputation is justified

Forgive me if I sound callous, but I have absolutely no sympathy for Rhysand flinching at the mention of Amarantha when Feyre didnt even use her name and is also talking about how she fucking DIED AT HER HANDS

God, I feel like I have something to say about every single line this post is gonna be like 10 thousand words long by the time Im done

So lets take it from the top; Feyre tries to convince the mortal queens to give them the half of the book by recounting to them how much everyone suffered under Amarantha and how she was gruesomely beaten to death and then revived, which is not a compelling argument to me, who actually witnessed all of that, much less these queens who have barely any context for anything shes saying right now

The oldest queen is like "you dont know anything about anything" which is true what the fuck does Feyre know about whats going on in the human world or even the fae world at large, and then Rhysand growls "dont you dare talk down to her!!" because shes passionate and speaking from the heart or whatever and its like, okay, shes still not good at politicking or even just basic negatioation and shes talking to a seasoned politician who old as fuck

Like, if Feyre was actually smart, she wouldve long since realized that she couldnt convince these queens to protect this little slip of land right up to prythians border and been like "okay, you dont wanna protect the land, but can you atleast organize an evacuation so you can atleast save the people" Sure, they definitely still wouldnt have agreed to that because its a sjm book and theyre written to be comically evil, but it would atleast demonstrate Feyre being a little savvy, because right now all we're getting is her being stupid and stubborn in a situation where she really cant afford that

god, im just now noticing how pissed off I am, its been bleeding into my commentary and its not gonna stop, Im sorry. wait no, if youre reading this youre probably looking for negativity, so youre welcome, actually

Anyway, Rhys also says that Feyre is a kindhearted soul looking out for people who cant defend themselves even though she definitely thought that those human guards were pathetic for wanting to defend themselves when she and the other fae were soooooo much more powerful and he definitely knows that because the mental bond is fully open during this meeting and he chastises the queens for being selfish and cowardly when its like, my brother in christ you are doing the exact same bullshit, but atleast the queens are defending a wholeass continent while hes defending one (1) city. and iirc that city ends up getting attacked and destroyed anyway so good job my guy

IMMENSE DIFIFUCLTY there is no way i could possibly order them. so i will haave to modify to just. 5(ish) headcanons. starting with a freebie (tenmyouji voice in the chuckie the doll voice) ive got a kid. gendahflooid. as for the full 5 lets see lets see lets see one absolutely entirely fascinated by old forms of travel. i imagine not many in the town have vehicles, their grandpa being among a small handfull. and so the methods that dont exist anymore, she always want to hear all about. airplanes especially. tenmyoui always htought them nothing too special in his trip(s) between japan and the united states, but quark when they wee littler demanded his 'airplane story' again and again 2! their birthday is january 17 2064! this would be the 100 yr anniversary of (from my limited understanding) the first scientfici article published about quark particles. i find it so neat that it just BARELY works. but it does! work! #3 i have a hard time differentaiting what is headcanon versus inference but. unreliable narrator in their letter w regards to their health lol. i think THEY think theyre a lucky and healthy kid. im positive this is untrue lol. i imagine they have pretty severe developmental issues what with. lack of prenatal and birth care, implied prematurity, malnutriton, NOT WALKING UNTIL AGE 2, and lack of tenmyouji able to be w them to get them moving around building muscle. then their illness at age 3. i think they likely are far behind what *we* would consider healthy, espeically in early life. and once she had tos tart working they just had to, work through it! 4. minor physical apperance things! freckles they absolutely have freckles. screen texturing during certain scenes even makes it look like she has freckles! and also, their teeth are SO jacked up. defintely would need braces once they lost all their baby teeth but. well. and just generally. far more scratched up and dirty than the game makes them appear lol. i totally get for the game they had to hide spoilers of course. and can even see tenmyouji trying to make sure theyre as cleaned up as possible and wearing their best before meeting akane. but i just do not think theyre *this* cleaned up lol the fifth one. phew im glad i thought of different ways to format all of the numbers. im funny. but okay the fifth head canon oh god its so hard to pick just one more. but. something entirely unexplored i think abt a lot is, the ideas they had of their mom before they found out they were adopted. that they figured, always imagined, that tenmyouji had a daughter, who was of course their mother. and that its only retroactively they can say "but he'd never been married or had a kid before". so they imagine the daughter that she was. the person that she was. make up stories abt her in their head, thinking abt what she looked and acted like. what she did in their home. if their room used to be her room. and never talked abt it to their grandpa bc they figured itd make him sad. but that led to not understanding until they were 7 that the person they imagined, the daughter of tnemyouji, never existed. and thats a weird thing to grapple with! they dunno how to feel about it. now not having an attachment through that. i hope i aritculated that well! thank you thank you for the oppuruntity to share some if you ever want ten trillion or more (OR TO TALK ABOUT YOUR OWN. hi ak!!! considering its cms anniversary i just wanted to wholeheartedly thank you for making and publishing it!!! ive only been into your games for a few months now i think but they genuinely changed something in my brain chemistry (/hj) and now i think about it constantly bc it just makes me so so happy!!!

the way you present stories and characters is honestly so incredibly amazing!! no matter what a game is about it pulls me in entirely every single time, even if im replaying it for the fifth time! you genuinely have a wonderful talent!!! i dont have the words to describe just how intricate everything is, especially psychologically, but god!!!! its all so good!!!! (its honestly a whole other thing to get into, but the mareggie layers in particular are everything to me, along with twyla and novas dynamic.. aughhhhh)

i mean it when i say ive fallen head over heels for most of your characters!!! each and every one of them is so unique and all of their designs are so gorgeous!!! as an autist myself im especially happy to see characters like mary and capella given important roles in a story!!!!

im using a LOT of exclamation marks but i just cannot contain my excitement when im talking about noisrev!!! i love drawing your characters and theorizing and whatnot!!! this became a bit longer than i thought itd be so. yes! thank you! from the bottom of my heart!!! youre changing lives and bringing so much happiness to others!!! ❤️

No but for real like, I can't just get a sweet message like this and return it with nothing! Reading stuff like this feels like you reached through the screen, through my chest, and hugged my heart directly and it just makes me really emotional and happy.

Putting your art into the world is always really scary. Any time I release any project, I've always got such a tightness in my chest! Even when I know I am happy with what I made, I still hope that the people who have come to know my work are not disappointed with what I'm putting out. It's hard not to be at least a little worried! But time and time again I am told that the art I made is loved, and that feeling is the whole world to me!

When I receive messages like this (and no, you don't have to feel pressured to send me anything like this!) it really warms my heart. When I think about the games I make being someone's favorite, the characters I make being someone's favorites, I mean hell even just having them like it a lot! it really brings a tear to my eye if I think about it for too long.

I think about all the ways my favorite media pulled me out of dark places when I was younger and still do now, and I'm happy if I can impart that feeling onto others.

Thank YOU all for playing the games, engaging in them, and just being generally interested! Thank you for making me feel like my art is worth something to people who aren't me, for granting me the opportunities to keep making art, and for allowing me to experience a human connection I haven't been able to replicate in any way other than from sharing my art.
