"Ah, before you go Mademoiselle..."

It was the end of the session, and instead of just wishing her well as she left, Nunnally could see Lukan rise and reach his deck, opening a drawer to get something inside.

When the man walked back to her, he was holding a little bag of cookies, transparent with a red and white bow.

"I hope they'll suit your tastes, there are mint, cinnamon and lemon ones. They're not too sweet, at least I tried to not make them too sweet..." There was a little wrinkle in his bow, as if he was threatening the cookies to be good, then he adressed a smile to his 'patient'. "Of course you don't have to take them if you don't want to. I usually make some for my family for the holidays, and I thought you may enjoy getting some."

The bag was reached to Nunnally, Lukan's face interrogative. He truly wouldn't take it badly if she refused.

She didn’t think it was working. The therapy. It couldn’t help her, and Nunnally doubted that she would ever feel comfortable enough with Lukan (or with anyone for a matter of fact) to confess to her real feelings. Not that she was comfortable to admit them even to herself. Not too often anyway.

But she kept coming. For Lukan. Because she l i k e d him, and she did want to spend her time with her. If she was certain he would continue meeting her, she might have ended the whole "therapy thing". Though for the time being everyone seemed to be happy. She as she was getting what she wanted (time with him); her grandmother as the old woman was thinking she was getting what she wanted too (that also gave Nunnally some odd satisfaction), and Lukan (or at least Nunnally wanted to believe in it).

And there another of their meetings was about to end, and Nunnally was finding no more excuses to extend it. It was this time of the year, when everyone seemed to be happy about the holiday season. Everyone perhaps apart from her. Nunnally had never liked Christmas season. Or rather she enjoyed the mood of it: the lights, the ornaments, the richly decorated trees, the streets covered with snow, but she could never feel the spirit of the season.

Did it exist at all?

Or was it something one could only understand, when one had learnt it as a child? It was not even that her family didn’t celebrate Christmas. It did; the perfect Christmas, wasn’t it? She hated it. Perfect on the outside, and inside…

No! Nunnally didn’t want to think about it. She was about to leave, when Lukan’s voice stopped her, and she turned around to face him again (that ‘mademoiselle’ sounded so nice in her ears). Nunnally found him handing her a box of Christmas cookies. A Christmas gift! For her…!?

Well, of course it was for her.

“Why wouldn’t I like to accept this gift…?” – her words were perhaps too quick; if Nunnally was to think about it a bit longer, she might have chosen not to comment on it (was it a sign she was getting (too) comfortable with him?) – “Of course I am going to accept it.”

“Thank you…Lukan.” – she added taking the elegant parcel – “I…I wasn’t expecting that.” – and it was so nice that he had made them for her. She remembered his family had a bakery, but she also remembered he didn’t want to inherit it, and baking was a bittersweet experience for him.

“I like cinnamon…” – she added – “But I am sure the other two flavours will be equally delicious.” – Nunnally knew she should leave. Soon he’d probably have another patient (did he prepare such presents for all his patients? She hoped that was not the case. She wanted to feel unique. Exceptional for him) – “But now you seem to have no choice, but to accept my invitation for the Christmas party.”

“Do you dance?”

“And are you not afraid to end up under the mistletoe with me?”
