ok.. ill only go over my descendent ocs because they're the ones ive been posting about recently, i have too many homestuck ocs to cover lol..

mayosi pyrope is the first descendent oc i made back when there was a brief trend on twitter to make, fan descendants of the trolls. i think i was inspired by ko's descendent acarid, and terezi being one of my favorite trolls i ended up making a bootleg pyrope. (and i draw them together all the time bc they rot my brain)

they're a radical transmasc weeaboo skater "vigilante" who grew up being raised by humans in a very normal average household where they got basically anything they wanted with no issues. their interests include; dishing out justice, watching animes, playing videogames, and doing sick tricks on their board. they wield a katana that resembles terezi's dragon cane.. they're my simplest designed character, and though they look a lot like terezi with a skirt and long hair their design was heavily influenced by dirk because i imagined that dirk has influenced some kind of anime character that mayosi obsesses over and has based their look on..

they aren't at all interested in, being a lawyer or anything like that and would like to take care of bad guys samurai batman style in their ideal world.. unfortunately the loving gently parenting of their human family didn't toughen them up enough so they're mostly a baby who doesn't do well when faced with conflict. mayosi's easily bossed around by anyone who firmly tells them to do something because they're too scared to step up and stand up for themself and others, they have a lot of shame for not being as strong and cool as terezi or red glare. real wet blanket.

uuuh like terezi, they weren't always blind. they were lured in by their ex best friend now super complex hate not boyfriend acarid and he poured acid into their eyes, ruining their vision and giving them crazy chem burn scars.. i think around this time they were also given their super rad pointy shades so they can look more like their hero, but it was a major blow to their confidence since not only are they a weak coward they're now a weak coward who can't see. they eventually learn to navigate the world via sound waves, its not as effective as terezi's sniff and taste vision but mayosi isnt as interested as smelling and licking everything in their presence.

theyyy are convinced by acarid to join him in his perfect sburb sesh, where they eventually grow a pair and cut off his arm and gouge his eyes before being shot in the brain and killed dead without ever waking on their moon. (sad) mayosi's feelings about acarid, who essentially abuses and manipulates them constantly, are very complicated because they feel an obligation to take on the brunt of his crazy in order to protect everyone but also because they cling to the nostalgic memories they have of him and are hoping he'll one day go back to that.

kokesi megido is based on kokeshi dolls, i think she sees ghosts and is really scared of them so she's super skittish and is always finding ways to shoo them away.. she probably knows how to speak japanese ig, i dont have a lot to say about her unfortunately.. i like how her design turned out though.

grimir maryam and romato vantas are brothers adopted into a rich human family, they're both spoiled brats and are constantly bickering with each other when they aren't pretending the other exists. grimir is mute and likes to garden (sooo original, i know) and romato speaks a lot and is a hopeless romantic writer. shrug.

i don't have as much to talk about. for any of my descendents other than mayosi because i have a really hard time developing ocs when i dont have people to bounce ideas off of. i mean most of mayosi was formed around acarid's existence and from ko's influence, otherwise they also wouldn't be developed . sorry .

i wanted to lean more into Charlie's doll like features because I feel like Viv could've used it more

Charlie's face is based off info where demons make themselves look/act friendly in order to lure people to them

The twist is Charlie's luring (unintentionally) people in for good intentions

Her face is supposed to look familiar/common but enough to look kinda unique

The doll theme going on is to make Charlie s bit uncanny; aka how skinwalkers are

She looks fake and hollow, her face looks empty, kind of how someone putting on facade looks like (again referencing demon lore)

dolls just being almost everyone's least favorite thing in general because of how uncanny and creepy they are

The only thing she's hiding is a literal angel

She has her mom's nose

She only has small goat features (two pairs of ears and hooves) because technically the goat symbolism came from the Church demonizing Pan

I think it slightly adds to her symbolism of being like a sheep/lamb (innocent and pure)

the pure/uncanny look symbolizes how she's kind and sweet and other stuff but she's inexperienced (lacking basically) and bites more than she can chew in terms of the hotel

she's scared of the abuse and violations that comes with her power dynamics leading her to not have that much of a spine, which vaggie helps with

2. Vaggie

So looking back I forgot my OWN LORE by forgetting to put cheek rings on Lute (like I did to Vaggie)

So let's pretend (being delulu is the solulu)

lute is just there to serve as a model to how (maskless) exterminators look like (sorry lute)

The cheek rings connect to Charlie and Lucifer's own cuz Lucifer was a former angel as we all know

Exterminators dress up like higher-up angels (see Charlie's true form to have an idea of it) in order to look more terrifying and intimidating

okay like bro real talk who would you be scared of more someone who looks like part of your species or a literal fuckin eldritch being coming to swoop in and kill you

Making exterminators look like demons was a dumb move sorry

Their mask serves as a lure of some sort where you can't help but look at them (kind of how we don't wanna see disturbing things but we can't help but stare at them when they appear)

And then boom you died because you were to busy looking at the "eye"

I think the look I gave them + some of their bloodthirsty nature's brings in more of the horror

I do like the fact they look like regular people underneath the masks because it kinda reminds you of heaven's hierarchy

once we go up the ladder the more terrifying they look

so once I redesign Emily and Sera....expect them to look more...captivating to the eyes

They have been able to preserve human technology and furthermore: the movie's lore has decided to disregard planned obsolescence making us see that 300 years later an abandoned vault can have electricity as if nothing, so we can assume that intelligent humans probably preserved part of the existing human culture before 2011, and that includes music. So why not, Mae could probably teach Noa some catchy tunes, even if she herself doesn't dance very well, just because they make her forget her crappy life for a few moments. And obviously, Noa would be blown away because he has never heard anything like it in his life, but it's rhythmic and catchy and makes you want to move. And everything is going well and akward but funny until suddenly something like "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls starts playing in the playlist (or better, the fucking “Don’t you (forget about me) by Simply Minds wich is sooo Nomae coded) and they both look at each other very uncomfortably because neither was prepared for such a sudden emotional whirlwind that for some reason they see as a personal attack.

honestly. its jeff spokes (from the stormwatch story in batman the brave and the bold)

first of all i love the braid. this book is the only time shes had it (so far...) but ive completely incorporated it into how i picture her in my head. i think its such a good look for her even though i cant figure out what its doing half the time

the costume itself isnt very interesting in this story but i can forgive that because her costumes are rarely interesting

i dont think its a bad costume but its just not a very good one. go girl give us nothing! but it still looks good on her so i love this art

anyways. i loooove how shes drawn out of costume <3 i actually dont know if spokes drew these panels just because it looks so different than the others but no one else is credited so i have to assume its still him

if im being honest i think they could tweak this look and make it her actual costume (i want her to have the sort of costume sort of casual look) because it has a lot of good elements that could work + the shirt underneath is pretty close the her costume in tt03 and ds16. the second best time to give her a new costume is now. the best time was 2005. but thats not the point. the point is i think shes drawn so nice in these panels and i love the way she looks here <333

She is 19 years old, so she's the oldest out of the them. She has been an actress since she was seven years old, since Nightmare had the Power and money to do that, and she's really good in horror movies! She always dresses gothic, with the colors withe, black and purple. She's also lesbian.

When she was really little her life was okay, She didn't get traumatized (surprisengly) in any way...BUT (!!!) When she was 13-14 (because the phases of her Life have really specific ages hehe) she is a obsessed with dolls at a point where She only feels safe if She carries around one of them, because of the neglect she had from Nightmare. Even if Killer tries to be a good father and to be here for Mercilles, she still is more affected from Nightmare. She became really quiet and she was also developing a social anxiety because of how nervous she started getting. She was still famous for her roles in movies, so She was two different people at home (an insecure kid Who had mental breakdowns often) and on set (a pretty and okay teen star). The only people in her life (exept killer) that were there for her were her best friend Taylor and her girlfriend Viorel.

As she grown up a bit, she realized everything Nightmare did to her and started hating him. As soon as she turned 18, she bought her own house, with the Money she got with behing a celebrity, with her girlfriend Viorel!

She used to always dress boyish and steal Moonlight's clothes because She hated girly things. She would also feel putted apart from getting most of the attention from people because Moonlight was the favorite and stuff, so she would often hit him out of rage.

Eddie smiles to himself after he sends Buck the link. He’s not sure why he had thought of it for Buck- maybe seeing him with Christopher, they bonded over Legos in about five minutes flat. Maybe it was his enthusiasm and kindness. Also one of their regular volunteers just moved away. Maybe he had ulterior motives wanting to see Buck holding a tiny baby shirtless. Sue him.

That fact does not prepare him for every time it happens though. The first few times Buck hadn’t done skin to skin, still warming up to the idea but as soon as he had tried it, he was sold.

Eddie walks in after taking one of their kids for some testing and there Buck is, sitting in a large comfortable chair, button up open and falling off to the side, holding one of their tiniest babies. He's laser focused on her. Absolutely glowing. And Eddie can’t tear his eyes away. It looks good on him, like it always did. He’s happy for the kid too. To be receiving that attention and love. Feeling another person's blood pumping and heart beating after all she had known was less comforting.

Miranda knocks into his shoulder which shakes him out.

“Are you okay in there, lover boy?”

Eddie just rolls his eyes and picks up another chart, eyes still darting toward Buck every few seconds.

He taps out a text,

To: Maddie

Your brother is going to be the death of me, I swear.

He pockets his phone and looks back up at Buck. Holding her against his chest, her tiny fingers wrapped around his thumb and babbling back to her.

He prepares a bottle for her since it’s time for her feeding.

“Here, she must be hungry.”

And Buck looks up at him, his expression still soft and glowing as he takes the bottle.

“Have you ever done this before?”

“We did it once with dolls at the academy for safe haven training. But, uh this feels-“

And Buck looks a little terrified in that moment.

“Here,” Eddie kneels next to the chair, “adjust your hold so her head is up a little more, and then hold the bottle at an angle. There you go! You’re a natural.”

“Can I-know her name?”

Eddie scrunched his face a little and then smiled gently, “yeah, her name is Emily.” Eddie replies. He stands and grabs a blanket and drapes in around the two of them.

A few days later, Eddie is on his break, sipping what he would call a sad cup of coffee, mostly because Buck didn’t bring it, when breaking news splashes across the screen of the break room TV. He doesn’t pay much attention- tapping out a text to Carla making sure Chris hadn’t given her too much trouble.

He glances up, attention caught by the sheer amount of flashing lights in the all too familiar red and blue, all he can see behind the reporter is what is unmistakably a firetruck, except it’s flipped on its side and there are a few flames still fluttering across the ground.

“We received a report that there is a young firefighter trapped underneath the vehicle Sarah, do you have any other information?”

“Unfortunately that is correct Kathy, we are able to report that he is a member of Station 118, sources tell me he does appear to be conscious at the moment and hopefully will be able to stay that way until negotiations with the bomber are satisfied.”

Eddie doesn’t even register that he has stood up as he gets closer to the TV to see if he can see enough– to confirm what he feels in his gut. The camera pans around the scene, and he sees Hen and Chimney in their uniforms clutching their med bags, eyes glued to the vehicle, and Bobby in his civvies with his hands raised as he tries to talk with a young boy with explosives strapped to his chest. And then there’s a glimpse of who's trapped. The camera zooms in unsteadily. Eddie can’t breathe. He's seen shit. He’s pulled people from burning helicopters and humvees. He's held babies as they take their last breath.

He’d recognize those curls and that face from miles away.

He needs to tell Maddie. But he has to be sure.

He dials Athena.

“It’s Buck right? I’m not letting myself see things. He's under that truck?”

“Yes, Eddie, he is,” Her voice is clear and strong, Eddie hears the slight emotion coming through and grips his phone tighter.

He purses his lips and nods, running his hand through his hair.

“Okay, I- I’ll tell Maddie. She can’t be in there when they bring him in.”

“It’s gonna be okay Eddie. He's doing really well for the situation he's in. He'll be okay.”

Eddie wants to fight back but it wouldn’t be worth the time and energy.

“Just tell me if I need to-“

“Eddie, no. Don’t think like that. I know that you’re trained, but you can’t. And Maddie can’t. So go take care of each other okay.”

Eddie swallows and squeaks out a thank you before hanging up.

He makes his way down stairs and he sees Maddie leaning against the desk by the ambulance entrance. She has a tablet and she’s tapping the stylus against the counter absentmindedly. She has a focused look on her face. Probably taking stock of what they have, making sure everything’s organized before inevitable chaos.

She raises her head and spots him.

“Eddie! Did you hear, there was an explosion downtown, we are gonna be swamped with victims, or are they lending you to us cause you are experienced with this type of thing? Thank heavens- we were already short staffed and then Collins called out-“

Eddie grabs her arm and softens his look.

“Maddie-“

She keeps rambling about how she’s trying to figure out how they’re going to make the rooms work with the patients. And how there will probably be quite a few DOAs.

“Maddie,” he says more firmly, “I need to tell you something- about the explosion. Let’s go sit.”

“Eddie what the hell is going on, I have to get ready for several incoming traumas.”

He finally gets her to sit in one of the barely cushioned chairs and swallows thickly.

“Eddie, what’s going on?” it’s softer and filled with worry. Because there were only two people that would make Eddie this soft, worried and yet serious, And she knew for a fact that Chris was safe in bed.

“The vehicle that exploded, it was a ladder truck.”

“Oh god-“

Eddie takes her hand.

“Maddie- Buck was on it. And he's trapped underneath it. He’s conscious - but no one has been able to get close to him yet.”

“Oh god, Evan.” she sobs “Oh god.”

“Maddie, Maddie look at me, he's a fighter, okay? I have seen guys get through worse.”

She nods and Eddie pulls her into a hug. His walls crumble.

“I can't lose him either, Maddie- I just figured it all out- I can't.”

It's an excruciating wait and all Eddie can think about is that last time he was in this situation. Sort of. The first time he had met Maddie.

It had been his first week when his phone had rung, he had scrunched his brow as the name of the hospital crawled across the screen, work in smaller letters beneath it. He answered confused, and then his blood ran cold. Maddie asked how fast he could be there, and he was already running towards the stairs.

There had been a young firefighter leaning against the desk that Eddie can now place as Buck in the blurred memories of pushing past a couple paramedics and asking for a few minutes with her. Even if it was all she had left.

Maddie had also been the one to come in and pull him out of the illusion that they had more time.

She was declared dead less than half an hour later.

Maddie had been the one to hold on to him.

It had been the best hug Eddie had had in a long time.

Their breaks lined up for the first time 2 weeks later when Eddie looked exhausted and worn to the bone and Maddie had insisted on making her famous super coffee that was the best kept secret of the nursing staff. It a was a few days later that she slipped him Carla’s resume.

They watch the waiting room TV, gripping each other tightly as they finally try and lift the truck off him, and then as the barricades come down and a swarm of people come from what seems like every direction to lift the damn truck.

The minutes following where the news cuts back to the studio, where the anchors are talking about a surprise ending to a horrible night, are excruciating.

A few minutes later, the relative silence is broken when a nurse calls

“We’ve got incoming trauma!”

And they brace themselves.

The first couple are civilians that were nearby that need patching up or debris or shrapnel removed. Then a few other firefighters. Some don’t make it. They grip each other tighter.

“Firefighter Evan Buckley, 27, severe crush injury left leg. Stable and conscious at the scene, lost consciousness enroute.” Hen rattles off as they rush in.

Bobby, who's been holding Buck’s hand, lets go as they barrel towards a room.

Eddie wants to chase the gurney– be there. But he can’t. So he stands there with his eyes glued to its path.

He doesn’t know how long he stands there, it could be minutes, could be hours.

Their last conversation stares back at him because buck is the one he wants to text when he feels like this. It feels like it’s taunting him.

I figured out more stuff for my gay little episode outlines, so anyways, here’s the outline for episode two of my horrifying little plot idea for your Magical Knight Arashi au:

K, so after the bullshit Arashi dealt with she deserves a break, too bad, anyways the sword turned into an aesthetic looking makeup brush when she detransformed. Me thinks, she deserves a transformation item.

Anyways she a student so it’s education time, and by that I mean school + drama

she and Mika talk again, it’s fairly normal, he’s still a weird little man pretending to be a tsundere but he does ask if she liked the bear charm he gave her, she fucking loves it btw cuz it’s adorable. (Little standoffish man ain’t used to interacting with normal people, living with Shu does that to you ig 😔)

Mika, being the self sabotaging king that he is, asks if she has anyone better to talk to. Arashi is of course like “no” but with a tone that clearly means to indicate “are you ok?” But Mika doesn’t get that. So Arashi talk about her friends to him. Izumi, Leo, and Ritsu <3 and then she invites him to eat lunch with them.

Mika declines :( (for good reason but we’ll get to that eventually, he does kind of want to go but he knows he can’t, and it’s a Shu thing btw, Shu wants him to blend in and making friends is kind of part of that, it’s just, another thing)

anyways we cut to the class where Leo is, Shu is introduced via a goofy yah funny way, like he’s the comedically stuck up classmate.

he and Izumi are fighting

Leo is trying to break up the verbal smack down but like, it ain’t really working, eventually once these bitches tire each other out or a teacher intervenes they’ll stop.

Leo tries to calm down and comfort Izumi with a hand on his shoulder but Izumi brushes him off

Leo also tries to invite him to lunch again and he tells Izumi that he, Arashi, and Ritsu all miss him at lunch

Izumi declines and says that he has to go before storming out of that classroom as soon as the bell rings

Leo complains to Arashi and Ritsu about Izumi at lunch.

After Leo is done venting his frustrations Arashi brings up the weird shit from the night before

She tries to show the photo she got of the mannequins? No, weird living dolls. On her phone, but all the photos are blurred out.

Ritsu is like “So, what are we supposed to see here?”

Arashi explains and shows them the gem mark + the makeup brush + the 87 photos she got of her new cat.

Leo and Ritsu believe her cuz like, they’re besties, and also, it’s Leo and Ritsu, they’ve dealt with weirder, Aliens + Rei Sakuma

anyways the besties decide that A. Arashi needs to do something fun to get her mind off things + B. They want to do something for Izumi cuz he’s been super stressed recently

So they go out together to look for something to buy him. Girlboss mall trip <<33

After browsing through a few shops they pick out a couple things for him, a nice shirt and some ink for that pretty glass pen he likes to use. (Leo picked out the second one)

They go to a little cafe with those cute colorful drinks in the mall for a snack. This is the usual hang out spot for a lot of the younger students, like the first years, especially if they like sweets.

Ritsu notices something is up.

there are gold strings creeping along the floor, and they seem to be going toward Arashi’s bag

Ritsu grabs her bag and stand from his chair.

Arashi and Leo are of course like “??????”

but they go along with what he’s doing, the strings start to follow him so he gets up and goes lmao, the three of them leave the table and their drinks behind. (At this establishment you pay at the counter so they’ve already paid for the drinks)

These bitches actually get chased by the strings until they end up in a deserted place (the fucking back alley outside the mall where people usually load stuff from trucks)

Arashi grabs the makeup brush out of her bag so she can transform to do something about the strings, maybe cut them?? She doesn’t really know

So the strings form these circles on the ground right? Cool. They open up little portals and the dolls materialize out of the strings (it kind of looks like they’ve been woven together like a tapestry)

Arashi is trying to transform but she cant figure out how to do it. So Leo starts beating the fuck out of the dolls like the feral street cat that he is.

he starts getting his ass kicked and when he’s about to get slammed into a wall Arashi figures it out and transforms

she deals with the dolls pretty easily and they unravel back into little piles of string

anyways things go on, these three besties go back to the house to play with the cat and also patch up Leo’s scratches.

also Tsukasa saw the whole fight, oops.

yeah he saw them leave the cafe in a panic and decided to follow just incase the kids from his school were in trouble and he legit saw the entire thing. Have fun dealing with this Arashi.

I thought you would be interested to see this. Lanaboards didn't sign it which I think was a smart move. This was posted by Lana fans on instagram. I don't follow any Lana pages except Lana herself at Honeymoon. How dare these fans. They act like Lana could do anything about this. She signed the celebrity petition standing with Israel which has their panties in a twist. It seems that the majority of Lana fans are on the free Palestinian side of things. Even Lana's stalker Ricky Dat1guitarguy was disgusted by this letter. I agree with the stalker. 🫠

I'm only aware of anything that's happening because I follow @lanadelreyvisualaesthetics page and get some Lana updates from that page. I'm not a big fan of Lana fans (stans) because for the most part, they are terrifyingly insane. Not all of them, but about 98% of them. @lanadelreyvisualaesthetics falls in the category of Lana fans that are mentally stable and normal. I also look at Lana's own Honeymoon account when she opens it publicly just to get some kind of a update. But seeing as Lana promotes other people's work more then her own work, there's not much to get out of it. I don't have a IG account so I usually just bookmark pages I'm interested in to see what's happening. I'm only on tumblr for the most part.

That being said, I saw this post this morning. That's how I found out about this open letter to LDR.

These insane Lana stans have been over stepping Lana's boundaries for years. Let me remind people what happened the last time fans overstepped their boundaries with Lana:

If anything, look at how she goes about dealing with Dat1guitarguy on IG. This psychopath stands in her backyard. He follows her all over LA. He follows her to all her events. He drives to and from work driving by her house everyday. He goes to Hillsong just to sit a few chairs away from Lana just to stare at her the whole night. Dat1guitarguy is so deranged, he had his friend pretend he was wheelchair bound just so he can sit front row in the theater and watch Lana interview Joan Baez for her documentary. Several normal fans recognized him and called security. Security threw his ass out of the theater right along with his friend and his damn wheelchair.

What does Lana do? She follows him on IG which is the wrong thing to do. It's encouraging a crazy person to think you are both friends.

Like I said before, she's too damn nice.

I hope when she takes a look at this stupidly written open letter, she blocks each and every account that signed it. This open letter is the stupidest thing I read in a while, not to mention, very antisemitic. This idiot did not blame the real cause of these atrocities or blamed the real culprits who are behind all this death and destruction of the Palestine people - HAMAS. Hamas were the ones who went to a festival in Israel and slaughtered and kidnapped hundreds of innocent people. They started this. They are the ones to blame. They filmed everything they did and boasted it on social media. Yet, some of these idiot sympathizers are denying the monstrosities of what was done, even though there's film of it. To make matters worst, Hamas camp at and hide in hospitals and refugee camps. They hide behind the innocent civilians who are getting blown up. Israel warned these people to leave but Hamas didn't allow them to leave. They were forced to stay. Instead of blaming Hamas, Israel is getting blamed. What did these people expect? Israel to sit on their hands while Hamas literally swooped in and kidnapped, brutalized, raped, burned, shot and decapitated their people? Get real. This is what war is. I didn't see anyone complain 20 + years ago after 9/11, when we went to war to defend our home and freedom. I didn't see anyone complain about Ukraine defending themselves from Russia. But Israel defend themselves from terrorists? How dare they! Monsters!

There's a special place in hell for people like this.

Completely Uneducated Internet Opinion after seeing Oppenheimer and Barbie

The Barbie Movie focuses on a very specific lens of misogyny that doesn't show just how pervasive and horrific it really is, and it's painfully obvious that it's selling a brand of feminism that isn't too alienating to the status quo and is very "Oh well! The Kens will have as much power as us girls do in the real world ig. Get it? 😜" It just leaves a sour taste in my mouth, but it's about as politically aware and active a multimillion dollar Warner Brothers film based on a Mattel IP can really be. I appreciate it more as a celebration of embracing all the terrible flaws and aspects of being a woman in a misogynistic world, and an abstract being deciding that it's all worth it because of the joyful and meaningful experience of being a woman and not just an idea.

It's also funny that Ken as a character eclipses and overshadows a lot of the film, since the whole thing is about feminism and the name of the film IS Barbie. But much like feminist causes in the real world, the audience focuses more on the men involved lol. A lot of that comes down to Ryan Gosling's fantastic performance though. This man understood the assignment like no actor ever has before.

Also, the costuming and set design are god tier and exactly what we need to see more of in a media landscape dominated by shitty looking CGI from un-unionized and poorly treated sweatshop artists. If you like good looking movies, watch this movie.

Ken does take over the screen whenever he's there, but Margot Robbie shines in this thing. The comparison can't NOT be made between Barbie and The Truman Show (Gerwig iirc says it was one of her main inspirations and it shows), and her performance as Barbie discovers the world she's lived in and her existence itself is a flimsy ideal is so moving. Because like Truman, she chooses personhood and freedom over certainty and safety. She chooses to become a real woman not despite the many disadvantages and pain that comes with it, but BECAUSE of the experience. She learns that there is beauty in cellulite and stretch marks and wrinkles, there is beauty in aging, there's an entire world of experiences and emotions that as a doll she could never achieve and truly feel. And seeing someone CHOOSE humanity is such a wonderful thing.

The film also indulges in the kind of campy silly shit we expected, and I can see how some viewers view it as inconsistent and jarring when it's juxtaposed with moments like America's speech. But despite how half-stepped and steeped in a very specific advertiser friendly brand of Hollywood/corporate liberal feminism this film is, I appreciate Greta Gerwig even trying to do this in the first place. If even one woman or girl comes out of this being more critical of the world around them and the ways misogyny affects us, then I'm happy. If even one man or boy comes out of this being more critical of the world around them and the ways misogyny and patriarchy affects THEM and how they view and treat others, I'm happy. Oppenheimer is...what you'd expect of a Christopher Nolan biopic of Oppenheimer. It looked nice on 35mm film but it's also got the sound quality issue every fucking Nolan film has, where if you don't have the exact setup he wanted for the film then so many bits of dialogue will be drowned out by music or be otherwise unintelligible. The effects showing one woman with radiation burns were so laughably bad, it was like she let a bunch of Elmer's glue dry on her face and it looked so goofy that it ruined the weight of the scene.

For a film that really tries to show how paradoxical and complicated Oppenheimer was, it doesn't exactly sympathize with him to the extent I've seen people say it does. The film shows he's a dramatic, dismissive, egotistical asshole that refuses to explain his convictions and at times you (and other characters) wonder if he even has any. And his hypocrisy is constantly pointed out by many characters. The prosecutor in the security hearing asks how and why he suddenly decided to have moral qualms about nuclear bombs when he was eager on the Manhattan Project and outright helped decide which city to drop the first bomb on. Strauss's belief that Oppenheimer wants to be a martyr seems true, whether it's (as Strauss believes) out of pure ego or (as his wife says) that he honestly believes that receiving every punishment possible will somehow lead to him atoning and being forgived.

Also if you're watching a Nolan film you're already coming in with low expectations for women characters and this is no exception. Florence Pugh's character exists to show tits, talk briefly about communist ideals only to be talked down to by the more well-read Oppenheimer, fulfill a "methinks she doth protest too much" shtick with her always tossing his flowers, show tits again, break down when he says he can't see her anymore, and then kill herself to add to his sorrow. I do like that his wife immediately looks at him and says that he can't do things like have an affair out of selfishness, disregard other peoples' feelings, and then be surprised when his behavior ruins peoples' lives and fucks him over. His wife is incredibly based and Nolan does a good job portraying how miserable she was as Oppenheimer's wife.

The film showcases his lack of empathy or regard for others until it comes back to fuck him over outside of the affair. He builds Los Alamos knowing that local indigenous tribes come up there for burial rites because they're less important to him than The Big Picture and building the bomb. The civilian lives in Hiroshima and Nagasaki are something he's prepared to destroy for the sake of this experiment and usher in a new era of scientific discovery (again, nothing is more important than that Big Picture). The lack of regard for the Japanese people, the indigenous tribes of New Mexico and the other civilians in the area is (imo) intentional because the film is about Oppenheimer. It's about how he put them, his family, and everyone around him aside to follow what he's worked in his entire life: theory. Real tangible lives were something he did weigh, and ultimately decided were worth the cost if it meant a) proving this theory b) furthering scientific knowledge and c) ushering humanity into a new era of understanding. And as disgusting as it is, it's interesting to see a film trying to dissect why and how one human being made that decision and seemingly came to regret it.

Anyway while both films are completely different animals in different universes, I think I prefer Barbie because when I cringed, it was during parts I was meant to cringe. And Oppenheimer has the scene where Floremce Pugh (naked obviously) asks him to read the Bhagavad Gita and they start fucking as he says the "I am become death, the destroyer of worlds" line and thus robs it of its actual historical context AND cheapens not just Oppenheimer as he originally quoted it...as well as cheapened the Bhagavad Gita as a whole bc. Dude. Now I want a Bollywood movie where a character reads the Bible while a woman rides him and shows tiddy for superfluous bullshit reasons.

Yui across the universe! This one’s also for kanato , but I did another, and i liked the design more. She has the same background as the one I posted earlier. But I think that if he would ended up as either one of kanato dolls, or as his wife, she’d have long hair, and I wanted to give it different colors. I really like this one though. Probably will reuse some of the elements. Trying to stick to the “female horror game protagonist” aesthetic. Like these; but in pink to match Yui’s og design.
