Excerpt from Chapter Three, The Lotus fuels the Flame, of my Successor AU fic:
Nezha and Redson
Tumblr media
Mac and Mei drawing Wuk and Mk drawing
This takes place before the timeskip in the story. Since Redson was basically raised by Nezha in this AU, I gave Redson an outfit that more resembled Nezha's style. I also simplified Nezha's (and everyone else's outfits) because I prefer simplicity. And because it makes it easier to draw these characters over and over again.
----
Q & A:
What is the Successor AU? -An alternate universe where Mei and Mk were born in the same era that Redson was. -Macaque raised Mei, Wukong raised Mk, and Nezha raised Redson. -Story has shadowpeach implications in it. Don't like? Don't read.
What are the changes to this universe? -Shapeshifting and glamour don't exist. Hence why Macaque can't hide his eye or his ears. -Macaque was on the Journey to the West with Wukong -Wukong never killed Macaque in this AU -And other changes, but for the most part, it's the same.
When and Where does it take place? -The story takes place around 95 years after the journey to the west ended. So it takes place in like ancient times. -Takes place in China (supposedly, I mean, I'm assuming the JTTW took place in China.)
Why did Macaque, Wukong, and Nezha raise those three? -I can't answer for Macaque and Mei cuz that's a spoiler. -Nuwa created and gave Mk's stone egg to Wukong as a sort of challenge to see if he could raise a child. (There's more detail to it but that'd be a spoiler.) -Nezha is the god of children, so he took it upon himself to take responsibility for Redson after Princess Iron Fan was put in jail. He calls himself Redson's "older brother."
What's the story summary? -Basically, I just wanted to create a possessive Wukong AU. Most of the story is basically a game of hide and seek. Where over the years, Wukong tries to find Macaque but keeps just missing him. Redson finds Mk stuck on Flower Fruit Mountain and they bond over time. Mei eventually finds Redson and Mk while she was on her own journey. Read the story to find out what happens!

I got a question, or rather a what if. What if in any of your stone egg AUs, Wukong had a cryptic pregnancy? A cryptic pregnancy is basically when someone may go several months or the entire pregnancy without knowing they're pregnant. Like what if Wukong didn’t know he was having an egg until he was legit giving birth. I know with his Golden eyes and Macaque’s ears, that would practically impossible but still what if?
Just asking and a little curious.
Considering I just learned that in the show concept art; Macaque had a third mini shadow clone...
Tumblr media
+ this anon ask:
Tumblr media
Wukong happily tending to Macaque's left-behind shadows on FFM in the centuries after their breakup, only to notice that they're all missing; ala "lmk penumbra au".
He's sad that this part of his lost mate, only to wonder why his stomach has been feeling weird lately...
(*Wukong chilling in his hut prior to the LMK pilot*) Wukong, turns on gold vision: "...why is there three swirling masses of life energy/dao in my lower stomach?" Wukong, thinking: "Hmm... eh. Probably nothing." (*continues eating peach chips*) Guanyin, narrating: "It was, in fact, Something."
Tumblr media
Wukong: (*wide-eyed and exhausted. Holding three!! baby monkeys*) Wukong, breathless: "What. The. Diyu?" Three Shadow Cubs: (*loud chirpy sounds!*) :V! Guanyin, in midwife scrubs: "Yeah. Glad I noticed just in time." Wukong: "What in Buddha's name was that!?" Guanyin: "Seems that by donating your dao to preserve your mate's shadows, they formed their own souls. However they needed bodies..." Wukong: "But wait, if Macaque's shadows disappeared some time ago then- how long where you three cooking!?" Three Shadow Cubs: (*no thoughts, only babey*) (‘◇’)? Wukong, realising: "I need a successor."
MK sees his idol in "tired single-parent of three newborns"-mode and instantly understands why the Monkey King needs someone to take up the Staff.

macaque's like "i hate you wukong >:[" and then he'll look like the world's ending at the mere notion of swk being in harm's way.
like bruh, you're not fooling even yourself with that hate bullshit.

I wanted to talk about this because it's been on my mind since I finished season 4
The way peaches represent Sun Wukong and Macaque's relationship. When they're happy in Flower Fruit Mountain, just the two of them — no brotherhood, no Jade Emperor (along with the entirety of Heaven), no journey to the West —, Sun Wukong gives Macaque a peach.
It doesn't look like much. SWK eats peaches all the time and his mountain is filled with them (seriously, is that all he eats? He really, really really loves peaches, man. How does he not get tired of them? I'd get grossed out after the first few months), of course he'd give one to his best friend! His most loyal subject!
In this scene, they're comfortable with each other. SWK talks about how what he wants is to live a lazy life with him and his monkeys, just chilling and eating peaches and basking in the sun? I can't remember exactly what he said but the point is, that he wants things to stay like that forever. Just the two of them (along with a thousand monkeys), living happily in a mountain with SWK being strong enough to protect all of them
SWK gives Macaque a peach. Macaque accepts it; the peach is fine. They're good.
The next time we see one of them give the other a peach is during another flashback, the one where SWK and Macaque are talking while Sun Wukong is sealed under the mountain (the position he was in looked so uncomfortable? He wasn't laying on his belly with the mountain on his back, he looked like he was trying to run away before he got caught with the mountain on his back), and they are definitely not good then
Macaque offers Sun Wukong a peach (read; Macaque offers Sun Wukong a peach, when Wukong was the one to offer one to Macaque before. The sun gives the moon its light, but the moon can't offer anything to it in return) and Sun Wukong acts passive aggressive with him, leaving it clear that no, Mac, he doesn't want that fucking peach (well, maybe he does, but we'll get to that later)
They're both in the right here, but they're also both in the wrong. Macaque is right for being angry at Sun Wukong. If he hadn't followed Azure's plan (he [Azure] was so fucking grooming that monkey, what the fuck. Not sexual btw), the brotherhood would've been fine, and Sun Wukong wouldn't be trapped under the mountain. However, Sun Wukong is also allowed to be angry at Macaque; from his POV, Macaque ran away from the fight when he realized they were losing. Macaque pretty much abandoned him first. I'd be angry too, honestly
Macaque is wrong for telling Sun Wukong that he's the one that got himself in that mess when really, that was partly Azure's fault. Weren't it for him Sun Wukong apparently wouldn't have cared about Heaven, since unlike what happens in JTTW (haven't read it yet, pls tell me if I'm wrong!), all he wanted was to live a comfortable life and train his troops (Azure was the one who saw him first; he found this... child? And thought that yeah, he can use this. He put him in a pedestal and showered him in compliments he didn't deserve nor want. He manipulated him to get what he wanted; not a king, but a weapon)
Sun Wukong is in the wrong for treating Macaque like shit here too, since he literally warned him and again, he wasn't at fault. Neither of them were!
Back to the point — in this scene, when Sun Wukong rejects the peach, Macaque crushes it with his hand. Later, after Macaque leaves, Sun Wukong expresses how he actually really wanted that peach. Or, in other words, Macaque tries to offer Sun Wukong his support, his friendship, and when Sun Wukong rejects it, he gives up and destroys any way of getting back together; later, it is revealed that Sun Wukong didn't genuinely want to be left alone, and that he did still wish to be friends, in a way
This, we can say is the point where their relationship was broken. The peach is left on the floor, abandoned, and Sun Wukong with it. As far as we know, Macaque didn't come back after, and even if he did it's pretty obvious that wouldn't have gone very well
(Also, just to add, and you can skip this part if you want! When Macaque is looking at the memory, he looks kinda confused? Like he doesn't remember it happening that way. Maybe that's one of the LBD messed with when she brought him back, if she even was touching them. I'm not sure if that's canon, I forgot. Please tell me if you know?)
The next and last time one of them offers the other a peach it's, again, Sun Wukong to Macaque (it's almost like that's the way it's meant to be. Huh. Sun and moon indeed haha!)
They're in a beach again! Yay! Sun Wukong's (and possibly Macaque's later, if he gets a proper redemption arc) friends and family (MK and the gang, and also the DBK fam) are there too. Sun Wukong is watching them in the sun (lol) when Macaque goes and joins him. He doesn't even go there to annoy him and as far as we know he didn't even get an invite, so he really just went to the event to chill with SWK. During this whole scene, we can see that Macaque isn't interested in starting a fight (fucking finally, man), even if Sun Wukong does act kinda aggressive at first. Which, y'know. Fair
They're in a beach again. Presumably not the same one, but still a beach. They're back to the beginning, but not really, because they're both different people. They've changed, and their relationship(s) with them
This time, it's not an actual peach being offered. It's a peach popsicle. I don't know how to spell that. Sun Wukong offers it to Macaque, and Macaque looks surprised but eventually accepts it. He appears to be happy with this
This I believe represents how they're both willing to begin a new relationship (platonic, romantic or something else, see it as you want). A new relationship; a changed one
Sun Wukong doesn't give Macaque an actual peach, he gives him a peach popsicle. He's offering his friendship, an offering Macaque accepts, but it's not the same it was before, and it never will be. They know they'll never be the way they were in the past, and they accept it. Sun Wukong offers Macaque his friendship, telling him that it won't be the same, but that if they want to heal then they've got to accept that — and Macaque takes it. It's not the same, there are mistakes that can never be fixed and actions that can't be undone, but they're willing to start anew
It'll be different, but it could be even better if they try (if they fucking COMMUNICATE for once)
And the popsicle will eventually melt. They'll eventually fight again; they'll fall apart, and maybe get so angry at each other they'll refuse to talk to each other for a while (y'know how stubborn they can be), but (usually depending on where you live) popsicles can be surprisingly cheap!
If the popsicle melts, if they struggle, they'll just buy another one, they'll just keep trying
Now all we need is a scene where Sun Wukong (or Macaque, to show them as equals if not in power then in... y'know, their relationship? I'm not sure what the word would be) gives Macaque an actual peach to show how they're them again. Not the same, never the same, but still them

(Don’t worry I will give context on this image here) WARNING MENTION OF DARK TOPICS
I wanted to vent about shadowpeach shippers again cause like
I don’t think anyone understands how fucking toxic shadowpeach shippers are me and my friends met like really shitty ones and I seen how like they attack people who don’t even like shadowpeach
hell half of them literally mischaracterize azure to be a fucking assaulter!
how do I know this? i one time went to look up azure lion fanfics When season 4 came out cause he is one of my favorites and literally so many fanfics have him tagged as a assaulter or a stalker like
I’m sorry excuse the hell out of me?! and even when people who are actually from china go to talk about how like they are very uncomfortable with shadowpeach especially when smut is being made by the two of them shadowpeach fans literally send them hate and threats and shit!
and this one is basically a story time
One time as I was scrolling threw TikTok A person was like crying about how they fear of wukong and macaque being brothers (despite in canon they share the same dna) shadowpeach fans literally said how they would make a fucking au where they weren’t brothers or hell they would still fucking ship them EVEN IF IT WAS CONFRIMED DESPITE IT IS BEING CONFIRMED
and guess what? THE CREATOR OF THE FUCKING VIDEO AGREES WITH THEM
LIKE WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
like you don’t say that! Admitting that! Honestly it makes fear more Especially since the creators and macaques va repost shadowpeach shit
it makes me tired of being in this fandom I swear-
like I am at a point of taking a break cause of how toxic the lmk fans are people say they aren’t toxic and as a lmk fan they really are like
i could go all day writing a hour long rant about what makes me frustrated in this fandom but I don’t have the patience or want to deal with backlash
and I feel so embarrassed that lmk fans especially shadowpeach would literally gets so pissy when someone doesn’t ship what they ship
Anyways I’ll be off
please be safe out there everyone

Who do you think Yue calls her parent first? (Like Baba for Wukong, etc.) She has to call them that for publicity purposes once the bio kid rumor starts, but which one would she genuinely start referring to her parent first?
I’ve been kinda wondering what she’d call Macaque too; she has her Mama, and I want sure if she’d call Mac the same thing or come up with his own parent title to use
Even with the kid rumor being passed around, Yue calls Wukong and Macaque by their formal titles. Since it's established pretty early on that she's a stickler for addressing people by their correct titles no matter her opinion of them, it's not suspicious. (It's actually pretty cute how "grown-up" she's trying very hard to be, according to many.)
Eventually, though, Yue slips up and calls Wukong "Baba" in public. It's super embarassing for her. She insists it's a freudian slip and tries very hard to ignore it in hopes that everyone would forget it. Wukong doesn't let her live it down and makes it an official law that Yue has to call him "Baba" from that moment forward. The penalty for not following this? Cut down library time. (The absolute horror how dare he.)
It's a little more complicated with Macaque. Since Yue already had a "Mama," it's hard for her to call anyone else by that title without feeling extremely guilty or feeling sick. It's doubled when it comes to Macaque since he shares a lot of traits with Sangshen. Eventually, she does call Macaque "Mama" after properly processing her grief and issues.
(Peng once tried to pressure Yue to "practice" being more casual with Macaque and calling him "Mama" and using Azure as a stand-in. They absolutely had no ulterior motive, not at all. It horribly backfired when Yue threw up on Azure's feet.)

Excerpt from Chapter One, The Moon Guides the Tide, of my Successor AU fic:
Macaque and Mei
Tumblr media
Originally in the story, Macaque is wearing his hood to hide his identity. But I decided to take it off so that y'all could fully see what this version of him looks like.
Mei doesn't have her green highlights at this point in the story. She slowly gains them overtime after she unlocked and mastered her dragon power.

When Tieshan told Macaque of the scarf, she knew what she was doing. She may not know much of Ancient Stone Monkey culture, but she had 500 years, a mountain full of lost stories and secrets regarding the clan, and quite the incentive to learn as much as she could. After all, it could literally be the difference between life and death for Wukong and his second try at parenthood. She wasn't going to risk sowmthing as simple as a lack of knowledge from stopping her...
So somewhere on that island she came across a depiction of Stone Monkey mourning rituals, including how some monkeys would choose to bury themselves beside their mates during the Stone Egg ritual, or lacking a proper resting place, with their mate's former items so that the dao of their mate would be absorbed by their Egg. A way for their mate to live on through their child, so to speak. This means she knows what it means for Wukong to have buried himself with Macaque's scarf and continue to wear it as a waist wrap even now. And she knows Macaque and Marshall Ma knows it, too.
Pigsy asks her how she knew mentioning the scarf would get Macaque out of his funk.
Pigsy: How the hell did you know that would work!?
Tieshan: Because despite not being raised by them, Macaque is still a Stone Monkey of the Lotus-Eared variant. In their culture, to bury oneself with something covered in their mate's dao is to wish for the cub to absorb the dao and have a piece ofntheir mate pass on to the cub, if not in blood, then in spirit. We can see in Xiaotian's coloration how Wukong and Macaque's dao had mixed together to create a child that looks like both parents.
Marshall Ma: Wukong would have known about this as well, the Elder whom led us before Wukong had taken the throne of the Stone Matriarch had raised him with as much knowledge about the Stone Monkeys as he could before he passed.
Xiwangmu, interested: Stone Matriarch? I have not heard of such a being.
Marshall Ma: 'Tis the title of Wukong's predecessor, the one whom Azure claims to be Lady Sonzi's reincarnation. We know her as the Stone Matriarch of Flower Fruit Mountain. She had led our predecessor tribe before the Floods. It is said she had left an egg bearing her Heir upon the Mountain, the very same one Wukong had hatched from. It is why we made him the Monkey King once he had discovered the ancestral palace behind the Water-Curtain Cave.
Prev.
Tieshan did spend about 500 years watching the island as it's vigil, and protector. She and the Stalwarts had many times come together for meals and chats. The topic of mourning rituals came up when she expressed a comparison to Wukong's state to that of a funeral burial. The Stalwarts were quick to show her the murals inside of Water Curtain Cave, relaying the stories Elder passed on to them from his time. How the Stone Monkeys not could form a vestal child from their own Dao, but from the Dao of lost spouses - given that they buried themselves at their side or with their belongings so that the couple had a chance to produce a shared child.
Tieshan recalls how her sworn-brother's favourite scarf was last seen in Wukong's arms...
The reveal that Macaque is Xiaotian's other parent (spiritually and genetically) is enough for him to shake out of his funk - not only did Wukong still love him after all that happened, but he made an effort to ensure that his second child would be born with Macaque's life energy!
Tumblr media
I like to think that before they leave Flower Fruit Mountain; Xiwangmu and the Jade Emperor make a point of finding one of Shíhuā's shrines/statues and sitting down to just... talk. Both to each other and to their daughter (or whomever she became). They ask her if she was happy in that life. Mention how her son can be such a handful at times but they care for him still.
Guanyin witnesses this from a distance. Tears roll down their face as it hits how the two royals truly see them their kin. They weren't lying when they called Guanyin their daughter, and Wukong their grandson.

Sleeping Issues.
Okay. I have a lot of headcanons, but I think this is one that would be canon or could be. Wukong and Macaque get nightmares, a lot, Wukong less then Macaque (Because I made a super horrible traumatizing past for Macaques family before he met Wukong :3) In the past if one of them got a nightmare they would get up and walk to wherever the other was sleeping without a word and just cuddle up with each other (Platonic or Romantic) But after Macaques death/murder and revival, both of their nightmares picked up, and also he had more issues with sleep as he worked with LBD and The Mayor, he barley ate, he barley slept, (I HC that Wukong is chubby and Macaque is skinny <3) but anyways, he barley took care of himself because he was so focused on other things, and if he did get sleep he would wake up from a nightmare about an hour or two later. So, that leads to this headcanon I have for Macaque. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Macaque has Insomnia Nightmares/Nightmares Disorder While nightmares are associated with certain mental health conditions, such as PTSD. Nightmare disorder is a pattern of repeated frightening and vivid dreams that cause significant distress or impaired functioning. It is one type of parasomnias, which are behavioral sleep abnormalities. Nightmare disorder causes frequent, extended nightmares that commonly depict serious threats to the dreamer’s life, safety, and well-being. They wake from them feeling alert and deeply distressed. Typically, they can vividly recall the content of the nightmare. Mild: Less than one nightmare per week on average. ~ Moderate: One or more nightmares per week, but less than nightly. ~ Severe: Nightmares every night. It can also vary in duration: Acute nightmare disorder lasts one month or less. ~ Subacute nightmare disorder lasts at least one month but less than six months. ~ Chronic nightmare disorder lasts for six months or longer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After he get's these nightmares he can't fall back asleep because his thoughts are swirling, so usually he just stares up at the sky/ceiling/ whatever he's under, thinking, laying there for hours until he has to get up.
