For years I've been noticing that you haven't creating twst oc fanarts nowadays. Why's that?
Hello!! Thanks for the ask. My interest in twst just changed to other things and different fandoms, but I still love my oc's and hold them dear. That's all! ♥

reeding your Six ear backstory I'm curious on what the jttw gang thought of him? where they like:
"that monkey looks a lot like you"
SWK: yeeAhh how much of a coincidence O﹏o
hahah essentially!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tang: Why did he look like you?!??
Monkey: No idea (lie), but I am flattered! Not happy about everything else though.
it was a very "Fuck You. Random Chimp Event 🫵" moment because to the pilgrims, Six seemingly came out of nowhere and took Monkey's place after he was banished. later on they thought they had him back but it was an imposter! I'd imagine it was Sandy & Horsie who were suspicious of "Monkey", because Pigsy & Tripitaka were thinking of him as being much better than before, except it isn't really Monkey or Stick and neither were being aggravatingly annoying or frustratingly aggressive!!
Tumblr media
Monkey only realised what Six was when he was just about to destroy him. with the No Killing Rule by Tripitaka, and Buddha & Lin's sympathy for him 500 years ago, he gives it a second thought to not kill this guy, who to his understanding is basically just a younger version of himself under different circumstances. in a way maybe it would've been like killing himself, or at least these negative aspects within that manifested to ruin his own life, metaphorical &/ literal self-sabotaging & harm if you will. because "Six" was initially pushed away & buried to the back of his mind, but bottling up ruins you, and that's exactly what almost came to be
so he does it again, but this time with a positive outlook and hope this six-eared macaque will understand that what he did was wrong during timeout. just as Buddha did for him once!
there isn't much to think of for the others since it was all so chaotic & confusing. one moment Monkey killed a bunch of guys and claims he didn't, and after being banished by Tripitaka for "lying & murder", he came back to apologise because apparently he did kill people! but it turns out no, he didn't, because that was the six-eared macaque who framed him, stole his identity, & almost got away with their luggage if it weren't for the real Sun Wukong! I don't think Monkey even tells/confirms to anyone about the fact that technically he created Six, so this is all his fault for not talking about his feelings 5 years ago, and he's still not going to talk about this maybe after 1,000 years because it's just so out of the blue!
Pigsy assumes that was just a rogue hair clone, he teases how more pleasant & tolerable Six was compared to the original, and prefers a quiet Stick. this earns him a bonk in the head
Tripitaka hopes that Monkey keeps his promise to free Six in 500 years & give a chance to redeem himself like he has for him. he's glad his youngest disciple didn't kill the specious macaque & is being considerate of other's feelings
Sandy was absolutely furious about fighting his own shadow, as Six borrowed it to match his prowess when they battled. I'd think he has ideas of his origin but it remains a quiet understanding and unspoken secret between him & Monkey
Horsie prefers the original and did not like Six even when he was in disguise. I imagine he instantly sensed it wasn't his friend but couldn't understand what was different. the vibes were just off but again, didn't say anything
and so after that kerfuffle, they'll carry on their journey like nothing happened to the next episode!

Heyo, I have a bit of a prompt for ya. So I’ve seen the “Demon that wants to abduct and forcibly marry Reader,” post(s) and raise a “The local regent/king finds Reader attractive (in a way that he views her almost like a novelty than as a whole person) and offers her a position as a concubine/ ‘palace lady.’ This is a different kind of scenario because straight up murdering the king of the area is not exactly the option that’d let the journey continue smoothly and refusal could also be construed as an offense to the king, but Reader does not want to and needs to continue with them on the journey. All of the other disciples know this, and maybe can tell she’s uncomfortable (even if it’s before Wukong has really fallen for Reader, she is still someone he would consider to be his friend at the very least). How are they going to get out of this one? (Slightly inspired by the time Tripitaka was propositioned in the Kingdom of Women by the Empress.)
Ps: sorry if this is dumb, regardless, I hope you have a good day - 🌺 anon
King: So what do you say, girl? Will you become my concubine? I see no possible reason for you to say no! I can give you all you could ever ask for in exchange for serving my every whim! That seems like a wonderful deal for a woman like you that clearly comes from nothing.
Reader:
Wukong:
Sandy:
Pigsy:
Ao Lie:
Reader: Wha-What?
Tripitaka: N-Now wait just a minute, your Majesty. You c-can't simply expect her to drop everything and stay here-
King: Well of course I can! I am the king of these lands! In fact! I insist upon it! Woman, you shall stay here and serve your new king immediately as soon as you are cleaned.
Reader: *feeling a panic attack approaching as the room starts to spin*
Wukong: *holding back the urge to commit violent murder*
Sandy: *rethinking this whole "pacifism" thing*
Pigsy: *looking disgusted at the king*
Ao Lie: *wondering if anyone would notice if he turned back into a dragon and ate the king*
Tripitaka: *trying so hard to think of a peaceful solution while also trying not to cry over how much the king is objectifying Reader* Y-You can't just h-have her! She's a necessary part of our pilgrimage!
King: By the Heavens! She's just one woman how valuable could she be!? After all, she is just your maidservant is she not!?
Tripitaka: *remembering that is the disguise they came up with for her* Yes, b-but! Why must you have her, great King!?
King: Because I have never seen a woman like her before! She is a beautiful foreign flower that I simply must have for myself! Here! I shall be merciful and send you off with another servant!
King: *gestures to his guards to find a servant*
Wukong: *reaches toward his ear for his staff*
Sandy: *reaches for his spade*
Pigsy: *reaches for his rake*
Ao Lie: *gets ready to turn into a dragon*
Tripitaka: *frozen in shock*
Reader: *sees the carnage about to begin*
Reader: I HAVE A DISEASE!
Everyone: *stops and turns to face her* HUH?!
Reader: I... have a disease.
King: *narrows eyes in suspension* And what is the name of this disease?
Reader: *sweats nervously as all knowledge of every disease she knows of decides to take a vacation from her brain at the one moment she needs it most*
Reader: In... junct... co... itis.... Injunctcoitis.
Everyone:
King: I have never heard of this Injunctcoitis. *turns to the court physician*
Court physician: Neither have I, your Majesty.
Reader: It's a northern disease! From the north! Where I'm from!
King: *looks at court physician*
Court physician: It is possible, your Majesty. *approaches Reader starts inspecting her* And what are the symptoms?
Reader: Oh, w-women don't have any symptoms. *takes a deep breath and composes herself* But for men it makes their dick fall off.
Everyone: IT WHAT!?!?!?!
Reader: Yep! After two months, yo dick just gonna... fall off. And it's a sexually transmitted disease.
King: I can't take any risk of that being true! Get them out of here before this disease spreads to the kingdom!
The Pilgrim Gang: *gets escorted out of the kingdom*
Everyone:
Reader: *sniffles*
The boys: *hugs Reader*
P.S. this so wasn't dumb I had fun writing this 🤭

Who are your favorite jttw artists? I've been looking for more content lately and you seem to be dependable on these kinds of things >.>
Hi there @thebeastandthehedgegrowth! Many thanks for your vote of confidence :)
So I would say that my current definite favorite JTTW artist would be Dongzi Liu, who's created some phenomenal Xiyouji-based pieces. Here's a small sampling that I yoinked off of his twitter:
The Pilgrims:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A close-up of Sun Wukong:
Tumblr media
And just check out these kings of Lion-Camel Ridge!
Tumblr media
Another artist I very much like is Chen Huiguan, who's created some really endearing presentations of the pilgrimage. Irwen Wong has a really good collection of them as part of his extremely helpful summary of Journey to the West. Here's a small sampling of the work:
The stone monkey leaving Mt. Huaguoshan in the quest for immortality:
Tumblr media
Sun Wukong feeling the full effects of the headache spell for the first time:
Tumblr media
Zhu Bajie trying to convince the Monkey King to return after his first banishment:
Tumblr media
Cartoonist Chaiko Tsai has also recently come out with a lovely graphic novel version of Journey to the West, and while other people have posted some really adorable images from it I'll give some samplings of the art that I found online:
Zhu Bajie, Tang Sanzang, Bai Longma, and Sun Wukong looking apprehensive near a body of water:
Tumblr media
A student Sun Wukong learning how to fly:
Tumblr media
Those are the professional artists that come to mind, but if you're interested in something a little "closer to home" as it were (i.e. hobby artists on tumblr), then I'd say that the best JTTW artists would be @antidotefortheawkward-art, @archrui, @lavaflowe, @sixteenthchapel, @kaijufluffs, and @sunny-days-and-warm-mournings
These are the artists that first come to mind, and as you can see there's some really amazing styles present! I hope you enjoy all this art as much as I do, and it goes without saying that everyone should feel free to reblog with their own favorite JTTW-inspired artists.

Zhu Bajie: Little brother, I'm sad.

I keep thinking about that Tinder Girl text convo and imagining cumplane arguing over each other's names because bingyuan are getting married and need to put Moshang on the invite list but Shen Yuan only knows them as "Airplane" and "Airplane's boyfriend" and Shang Qinghua genuinely mistakes Shen Yuan for "Shen Qingqiu" because he only ever refers to him as "Cucumber bro" and never got his first name from him. Think that bit where everytime he's about to say his name a loud and inopportune noise drowns him out and Airplane refuses to keep asking.
PLEASE LSDKJFLKSDJF i love that in this scenario they're not the ones getting married. it's more like your best man threatening to not come to the wedding because you don't know his name sldkjflksdjf now im imagining sqh being like I OBJECT in the middle of the wedding just because his best bro doesn't know his name (never mind that he also doesn't remember his best bro's name). I also love that binghe and mobei-jun aren't helpful in this scenario, presumably because shen yuan and sqh get so focused on bothering each other about it that they. forget they can just ask their partners what their friends' names are.

So Ash did exist in your universe. But now he had been reborn as Sha
yup :> All human characters from the animation are in my universe. Ash would have been over 110 years old at the time of his passing, and ofc, coming after Chilli, that makes him the second human soul to give a part of themselves to morsanima in many centuries.

Would you look at the that- your Ivory au has grabbed me and pulled me in- not complaining
Now I feel like I'm a but late- so, I have some questions, if you don't mind
Is Mei here?
What's the deal with the Long red Gibbon and Red bottomed Horse Baboon? Does all 4 Celestial primates know eachother, and does the Master, bad guy, know about them?
What's Erlang like, and his relationships with MK or Wukong and the Master guy?
Where's Li Jing what's happened??
What happened to the Brotherhood?
Did Tripitaka, Zhu Baija, and Wujing exist? What they been up to?
On that note, what about the gang, Pigsy, Tang, and Sandy?
What's Guanyin been up to? And Gold Star of Venus too?
1. Mei = Xiaojiao, she takes the role of redson.
2. The celestial primates took on the responsibilities of The Monkey King when Wukong was taken by the celestial realm. When Wukong was officially dethroned (killed), and Macaque had taken his crown (a condensed form of his powers). They were trying to hunt down Macaque for the crown and were ready to destroy everything to obtain it.
3. All of the celestial primates know each. Master Yuzhiqin does know about the celestial primates. They were what he classified as his main threat.
4. Wukong is Erlang's begrudging friend. What I mean is that Erlang will not leave him alone. Erlang is unnerved by Qi Xiaotian (MK). Erlang is Master Yuzhiqin's nephew. He hates his uncle but would never say it to his face.
5. Li Jing is Master Yuzhiqin's subordinate. He assists in capturing demons.
6. The Brotherhood's timeline changed a tad bit. The brotherhood was trapped in the scroll as punishment for the havoc of heaven, only Macaque and The Demon Bull King escaped. (Macaque went back to Flower Fruit Mountain, and the Demon Bull King went on the journey to the west.) The brotherhood is still trapped in the scroll.
7. Triptika and Tang are technically the same person, the same person being the golden cicada. Zhu Bajie takes the place of the Spider Queen, and Sha Wujing is one of the demon's the Pilgrams fight.
8. Pigsy, Sandy, and Tang don't exist.
9. Guanyin and The Golden Star of Venus become better help in the Master Yuzhiqin ARC.

I want you to know that even though my workweek is offset by one day (so my Monday is Tuesday) I love your daily pilgrims cheering me on, no matter how wrong they are about where I am in my journey. Thank you, and happy Sha Wujing Wednesday.
Wow, this group's first ask, and what a lovely one it is! It really makes me happy to hear that the daily pilgrims help brighten your day, @duwang-but-in-new-england. And if their journey proves anything, it's that even if you have to spend over a decade on it, you can succeed in your chosen life's journey. So happy Sha Wujing Wednesday to you too! He's cheering you on:

Youve talked a lot about why you admire jttw's redemption arcs for acknowledging how fucked up everyone was beforehand but i just wanna show some appreciation for how everyone still retains parts of themselves that could be considered flaws in other narratives. like when SWK becomes a buddha, he's not a pacifist, he's the *fighting* buddha. and zbj celebrates gluttony and indulgence yet when he attains enlightenment his role still celebrates that as an altar-cleanser :>
Oh you are so genuinely big-brained for this anon.
YEAH YEAH YEAH when it comes to everyone's favorite ex-assholes' attainment of enlightenment and what this could mean for any potential Xiyouji sequels, there is just so many interesting possibilities and implications you can work with when it comes to the pilgrims' post-journey lives! I know they only get their new positions at the very end of Journey to the West--and given the assumedly "great"final" ending that is achieving enlightenment this is probably why a lot of jttw-related media taking place in the future either re-writes jttw in some major ways and/or has it that the pilgrims failed in their mission and/or became basically the complete opposite of who they once were--but as you say there's something really compelling in the idea that they were successful AND retained their core characteristics BUT with all the maturity and desire to do genuine good that they developed over the course of the journey and solidified with enlightenment. I think that's at least why a few people playing around with jttw sequels have the pilgrims' be more like boddhisatvas than buddhas, as from what I understand this means that they DID attain enlightement but have put off entering paradise in order to more actively help others achieve the same. I feel like that makes a lot of sense for the pilgrims too, as they all experienced the wide gamut of pain and desires that can drive a person down the paths of samsara, which could end up providing a strong foundation for compassion for others. Plus there is something very cool with the idea that the same traits--even ones like a willingness to violence, gluttony, etc--can be beneficial or detrimental depending on how they manifest. That really drives home the idea of just how much there's no such thing as a "naturally" wicked individual, but that so much of one's moral character depends on what one actually DOES.
So (just to put it down) with the pilgrims you have:
Sun Wukong as the Victorious Figthing Buddha/Buddha Victorious in Strife, whose role is now that of a great exorcist and a protector of children. Interestingly too this title also suggests his prowess in defeating the emotions that drive negative actions as well as his victory over cyclic existence, something that we definitely see him achieve for himself!
Tang Sanzang is the Buddha of Candana (Sandalwood) Merit, a figure that others call upon to help absolve them of sin and a title that seems to be attached to the idea that the fragrance of sandalwood can help cool the passions of sentient beings and help them settle their minds (i.e. the very reason Xuanzang wanted to undertake the journey in the first place & something that Tripitaka is seen as having a lot of practice with given who his tudi are!)
Zhu Bajie becomes Janitor of the Altars, which is a role indicating that he actually did NOT in the end achieve enlightenment because he is still beholden to his base desires, but that he will now be able to put his appetite to work in a beneficial way. Interestingly enough, it seems to have been partly because of his lowest rank among the pilgrims at the end that Zhu Bajie has recently been adopted as a patron deity for sex workers in Taiwan, as many of them feel that other more "legitimate" deities would but look down on them.
Sha Wujing becomes the Golden-Bodied Ahrat. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find much information on what exactly this role suggests besides that ahrats are perfected people who have freed themselves from the bonds of desire and therefore will not be reborn, so if anyone has more information please let me know!
Bai Longma is made one of the dragons belonging to the Eight Classes of Supernatural Beings, who from what I understand are an interesting mix of entities, from demons to nagas, who all work as Buddhist protectors. For me at least it's kind of neat to think of the possibilities of everyone's favorite dragon horse, after he seems to have been so thoroughly rejected by his own family, found a bigger one both in the pilgrims and then with these other supernaturals.

Art school au prompt:
Sha Wujing showing Sandy’s baby pictures to Huntsman (during when he and Huntsman probably got along better later)
Huntsman was nervous.
Not because of his date. (Maybe a little, because he and Sandy had been so blind to each other's affections for so long that, every time they had a date, Huntsman feared it was a cruel joke from the universe.) No, the source of his nerves sat across from him, both waiting for Sandy to finish getting ready.
Sha Wujing both looked and acted tough. Sandy said he was a sweetie, really, but Huntsman could barely believe it. The man looked wild and acted wild. Supposedly, Wukong had befriended him over wrestling and Huntsman could believe it, especially with how protective Wujing was over his baby brother.
They were working on it. Huntsman just had to hope-
"Wanna see Sandy's baby pictures?"
Huntsman blinked. "What?"
Wujing glanced down the hall and pulled out a book. Across the front was scrawled SANDY'S BABY PICTURES with an adorable little Sandy holding up what appeared to be a kitten Mo. "I've been waiting for years for Sandy to get a date to show baby pictures. I showed Bai He, but it's different when it's a kid." He chuckled. "Less embarrassment and Bai He felt better about not having many baby pictures of her own. So..." He dangled the book. "Wanna see?"
Huntsman only had a second to think about it.
"Yes."
