names are very important to me so of course i paid extra attention to the lets know each other's names scene. and no not for inho giving the most goofily obvious fake name of the year but because of jungbae.
im not fluent in korean at all, but we are told by the character himself that jungbae means "righteous" and "twice", which then comes together to mean that he is twice as righteous. by having him be best friends with gihun we understand it that this means gihun walks with righteousness. that he's doing the right thing.
and so because of this, it might seem obvious to everyone, but i think its so incredibly interesting to kill him right at the end of ep seven, at the end of gihuns supposed hero journey. like to have inho kill him right there says so much.
if the sole point of it was to hurt gihun by seeing his friend dead then i think inho had many opportunities to kill him but he doesn't. if the sole point was to teach gihun the consequences of his choices then i think again, he could've killed him whenever after the six legs game. but. but, killing jungbae isn't just about killing a best friend but about killing righteousness.
inho, as the frontman, as the leader of an organisation exploiting poor people for the entertainment of the rich, at the climax of a revolution against that exploitation, kills righteousness. after gihun explicitly states that he has to make a small sacrifice for the greater good, after that sacrifice proves to be worthless as they're overwhelmed by the opposition, inho kills the concept of doing the right thing. almost as if to say, there is no right thing here. there is no moral dilemma or perceived moral superiority. there is no course of action you 'should' have taken. there is only what is and what isn't.
gihuns hero journey is not the right thing. the existence of the games is not the right thing. because, the concept of a 'right thing' is absurd, and the pursuit of righteousness is a futile effort.
inho pulls the trigger on jungbae almost to say that no gihun you don't walk with righteousness, you cannot exist in this world and be doing the right thing. you cannot play in a billionaire's game, gambling with the futures of the people around, trying to collapse a system that will always win and be doing the right thing. not here, not for inho and not from now on.

TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
Family Matters (2024, South Korea)
Directors: Kim Gok & Kim Sun
Writer: Kim Jung Min
Mini-review:
Started this because of the cast and... that's basically the main reason why I finished it. The last two episodes were really good but, before that, I spent a lot of time just scratching my head. It felt like the show was simply setting things up for what's to come, so it never gave enough information to properly tie its many plot threads, nor did it follow a clear logic. And it was pretty obvious that a lot of stuff was left on the cutting room floor in order to reduce the initial 8-episode order. Furthermore, its sense of humor was very hit-or-miss; sometimes I laughed out loud and others I was like "wtf". Still, the cast is fantastic, and like I said before, I enjoyed the final episodes a lot, so I would probably come back for a second season of Family Matters.

UPRISING
GENRES: Historical, Action
SUMMARY: When you’re born into Joseon slavery, you’ll stop at nothing to find a way out.
THIS MOVIE HAS EVERYTHING: Switches, abhorrent paternity laws, sparring, branding, fog fighting, crow dinners, greed, royal insanity, hunters, rock-throwing, questionable friendships, true friendships, robes, invasions, and loyalty.
HOT TAKE: The plot of this movie was swift and succinct, perhaps to the detriment of its believability. The action scenes were excellent, the cinematography was epic, and the resolution of the third act big-boss fight was one of the best I've seen in a while. Also, some great long-overdue comeuppance for a King that should have just shut the hell up.
That being said, our main characters were a little unmotivated, there were more 'Monty Python-esque' limbs severed than I was expecting, and some real hard choices to be made--ones I'm not sure I would have been strong enough to execute.

Castaway Diva. 7
Story: 6-7
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 8
Comparable to: Twenty Five, Twenty One (kdrama); Thirty but Seventeen (kdrama)
Total mixed feelings about this. First half, loved. Second half, a huge disappointment dumpster fire. I hate to say the kids in the first two episodes were better then their counterparts/as the adults. Storyline was exciting at first. Loved the whole island bits. I actually wish they explored a tad more with the younger version of Mok Ha (Lee Re) when she was stuck on the island. Honestly even with 12 episodes the story just drag on. Most characters were in my opinion cliche. Didn’t really care for Park Eun Bin’s take (whoever directed her in doing so) on being stuck with emotions of a teenagers personality. It got old very quickly. It didn’t help that both main leads had zero chemistry together either. Overall the whole series started oh my gosh this is great to meh…..

The ending. . . OMG the ending!!!! It left me with my mouth open. Quite frankly, I'm in denial. It put me through all this turmoil and for what?! To leave me hanging, literarily, where it started!
I liked the series. It was action packed, the changes in allegiance and the plot twists - they all kept me waiting for the next episode. I had a feeling Samuel was Park and I didn't get it wrong, but that ending, which is really not an ending at all, just left me restless. Will they ever cross paths again? Will they find justice? Or will they keep going in this circle with no end?
If you want a series with a solid ending, don't watch this one. But if you don't mind that, then watch it. It's really good.

OUR BLUES // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 8,6 Benim puanım: 9
Drama: Our Blues (literal title)
Hangul: 우리들의 블루스
Director: Kim Kyu-Tae
Writer: No Hee-Kyung
Date: 2022
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast: Lee Byung-Hun, Shin Min-A, Han Ji-Min, Kim Woo-Bin, Ko Du-Shim, Cho Hye-Jung, Baek Seung-Do, Lee Jung-Eun, Park Ji-Hwan, Choi Young-Joon, Roh Yoon-Seo, Bae Hyun-Sung
Her biri kendi hikayelerini bizlere anlatarak sahneden ayrılıyorlardı.
Ji-Min’i ise oyunculuk anlamında baya başarılı buluyorum.
 OST:
Jimin (BTS), Ha Sung Woon - With You
After watching Our Blues for a while, the drama wraps you in its warmth. You find yourself liking it without even fully understanding why. It’s a slice-of-life story that doesn’t focus on a single plot or situation but instead weaves a heartfelt narrative through its characters. At 20 episodes, it might seem daunting at first, but the story flows beautifully. First and foremost, the cast is incredible. While Lee Byung-Hun and Shin Min-A are prominently featured, they’re not the true leads in my eyes. For me, the real stars were Han Ji-Min and Kim Woo-Bin.
Set on Jeju Island, the drama showcases the island’s natural beauty. Typically, such slow-paced dramas appeal to audiences over 25, or even 30, so I don’t think it’s for everyone. The characters’ stories—filled with memories, pain, and joy—are portrayed in the most natural way. Watching it, you feel like you’re one of the island’s residents.
Since it’s not a drama where we can focus on each character individually, I won’t go into too much detail. Each character tells their story and exits the stage gracefully. Every episode shifts focus to a different character. One episode might explore the loneliness and immense love of a fisherman, while the next shifts to the barista who interacts with him. Each episode highlights a different theme, tackling issues like depression, custody battles, abortion, trauma, autism, and more.
While witnessing these stories, the drama also encourages viewers to analyze the characters. If you’re looking to take a break from complex plots and unwind, this is the perfect choice. It’s a refreshing escape from mind-bending sci-fi, supernatural stories that don’t make sense, and convoluted narratives.
As I mentioned earlier, Kim Woo-Bin was the standout star for me. He didn’t catch my attention as much in previous roles, but here, he shines like the sun. His smile, in particular, is incredible. You could watch the show just for him. Shin Min-A, his real-life partner, plays a relatively minor role in the drama. Han Ji-Min, who plays Woo-Bin’s on-screen partner, was equally captivating. I loved their chemistry, and I find Ji-Min to be a highly skilled actress.
Even a heavyweight like Lee Byung-Hun couldn’t outshine Woo-Bin in my eyes. That said, as I mentioned earlier, everyone delivers their part flawlessly. Lee Jung-Eun brings her experience to the table, while Roh Yoon-Seo represents the new generation with a stellar performance.
I highly recommend giving it a watch.
