Mini-review:

Started this because of the cast and... that's basically the main reason why I finished it. The last two episodes were really good but, before that, I spent a lot of time just scratching my head. It felt like the show was simply setting things up for what's to come, so it never gave enough information to properly tie its many plot threads, nor did it follow a clear logic. And it was pretty obvious that a lot of stuff was left on the cutting room floor in order to reduce the initial 8-episode order. Furthermore, its sense of humor was very hit-or-miss; sometimes I laughed out loud and others I was like "wtf". Still, the cast is fantastic, and like I said before, I enjoyed the final episodes a lot, so I would probably come back for a second season of Family Matters.

I don't know if someone has mentioned this already, but the fact that both of them have played school bullies in kdramas based in high school is such a full circle moment. Often times the school bully is the most homoerotic character on screen. If you don't believe me, ask the fan edits.

I've watched so many kdramas and find myself, shaking my head at the bully, thinking: "if you could only admit to yourself that you want to kiss him, there'd be no need for all this violence".

It's giving self-hate and internalised homophobia.

Okay! A stretch. But you guys get my points.

I’d started writing so many things on that lantern, fixing my life many times. To succeed in my diet, to win the apartment lottery, to have a Porsche Cayenne, to have a bestselling debut . . . None of them was what I really wished for, so I crossed all the words out. That was how the lantern ended up with a hole, I bet. In the end, I left just two syllables on the lantern. Gyu-ho. My only wish.
