Do the Characters exist without the fandom Creator? Yes. The Characters are Copyrighted by the company that owns them.

Does the Fanfiction, Fanart, or other Fan-Made Work exist without the fandom Creator? No. These Works are Intellectual Property of the fandom Creator, and thus Copyright belongs to the fandom Creator.

I don't care how many fanfiction stories follow the same story beats or tropes or Plot. Someone sat down to write them. Someone thought words, put them together, and then shared them with the internet at large. I don't care if there are five coffee-shop AUs of this one pairing, they're all written by Fan Creators, and there are small differences to them if you'd only be willing to explore them.

The entirety of Fandom would not exist without Fans and Fan Creators. Stop trying to steal their intellectual property with badly understood arguments about Copyright.

You don’t own fanfics. They’re inherently public domain because they aren’t your IP. Agree or disagree with AI, there are no grounds for “protection” from AI because it isn’t your IP to begin with. That’s what you chose when you chose this medium

Do I, or any fanfic author for that matter, have any legal claims to our work? No, not really, no. (Although if someone took a fic, filed off the serial number--deleted the fandom specific elements--, and then had it published for financial gain, yeah, that would be a case.)

BUT

Fandoms are built on a social contract that says we respect each others work, the effort people put into their art. We don't steal or disrespect the work of our peers. By feeding people's fanworks to AI you both steal and disprect it, and we need to make people realize that before it's too late--before fandom falls apart, because there will be no more real, actual fanworks.

Sometimes I feel kind of pissed off that some people centre Tommy and Buck around being Gerrard's main victims, I just feel so fucking bad for Hen and Chim in this situation. This incredibly racist and disgusting man who made them feel unsafe in a job where their and other people's lives are on the line, the man who they thought was finally gone because they thought they could trust the system that they fought to hard to be in, is now back in a leadership position over them. The fact that they brought back Gerrard AND barely let Chim or Hen have any screen time talking about this is so fucking disgusting ughhh and then when people fantasize about Buck or Tommy being "saved" or "defended" by Hen, Chim or Eddie it just rubs me the wrong way bc these characters deserve to be protected JUST AS MUCH IF NOT MORE. Also expecting this of them while brushing over that Tommy actively contributed to the racism and toxicity of the old workplace is soooo fucked up
