THE PACT OF ICE AND FIRE

so there's an aspect of this one i don't think has really been delved into that I think may be important when it comes to canon jonsa and I wanted to do my own lil analysis, along with maybe some tin hatting at the end here.

this is what the pact is (or what we know of it at any rate, Munkun is not exactly a good source of information):

Cregan Stark and Jacaerys Velaryon reached an accord, and signed and sealed the agreement that Grand Maester Munkun calls “the Pact of Ice and Fire” in his True Telling. Like many such pacts, it was to be sealed with a marriage. Lord Cregan’s son, Rickon, was a year old. Prince Jacaerys was as yet unmarried and childless, but it was assumed that he would sire children of his own once his mother sat the Iron Throne. Under the terms of the pact, the prince’s firstborn daughter would be sent north at the age of seven, to be fostered at Winterfell until such time as she was old enough to marry Lord Cregan’s heir.

There's two parts to this that I think are important here. Here is the first, which is the basics of the pact, and that most Jonsas are familiar with:

Jacaery's First Born Daughter Is Fostered At Winterfell -> She will marry Cregan's first born son and heir.

Obviously, this never happened for several reasons and the pact is forgotten but perhaps it will be fulfilled anyway by...

Jon, a secret Targaryen bastard, is "fostered" at Winterfell -> he will fulfill the pact by marrying a Stark Maiden aka Sansa.

Basically, it's a genderswapped version of what the pact entails. I think given George's fondness for how Tolkien was a hater of Macbeth because he thought the "no man of woman born" should have indicated a girl and not just a man born via c-section, I think the genderswap aspect fits George's style.

The second part however, has more to do with Jacaerys and Sara and I feel like it's glossed over a bit. See here:

They had spoken their vows in Winterfell’s own godswood before a heart tree, and only then had she given herself to him, wrapped in furs amidst the snows as the old gods looked on.

Jacaerys, a "secret" Targaryen bastard who gets his family name and allegiances through his mother, not his father -> Rumors of a secret marriage in front of a Weirwood with a Stark bastard, Sara

Listen. It doesn't matter whether Sara Snow is real, you believe whatever makes you happy! But what IS real and relevant is that this part was included in F&B for a reason, and is indicated to be the catalyst for the pact. Jace and Sara get secret married in front of a Weirwood, and this is what calms down Cregan so they can make their pact. And here is how (I believe) it applies to Jonsa:

Jon, a secret Targaryen bastard, but who gets his look and his allegiance not through his father but Lyanna's blood -> Jon, a Stark bastard, will marry an Heir in secret in front of a Weirwood tree.

THAT is, imo, the most important aspect of this scandalous story from Mushroom - that a secret bastard, a targaryen and a stark, secretly marry in front of a Weirwood tree just before a bloody war kicks off. People tend to make Sansa the Sara in this part, which is valid, but I think Sansa's role in this is not just to be the pretty Stark maiden, but to be the HEIR that is secretly marrying for love, like Jacaerys is, and that Jon's role will be about his status as a bastard, so that both parts kind of apply to both characters. And given that, if Jace and Sara had married, their daughter would have been a Starkgaryen with "secret" bastard heritage (from both her parents), marrying a Stark Heir, it does make sense (at least in my mind) that this may apply to Jon and Sansa's future plot. the That's something I touched on here in my "what will Jon's endgame" post.

Then there's the Vermax of it all...

Mushroom also claims that Vermax left a clutch of dragon’s eggs at Winterfell, which is equally absurd. Whilst it is true that determining the sex of a living dragon is a nigh on impossible task, no other source mentions Vermax producing so much as a single egg, so it must be assumed that he was male. Septon Barth’s speculation that the dragons change sex at need, being “as mutable as flame,” is too ludicrous to consider.)

This brought to mind the ole' Jonnel and Sansa (the first) thing - beyond the J&S similarities (Jacaerys & Sara, Jon & Sansa, Jonnel & Sansa), I think it's also important that Jonnel and Sansa never have any children, though they're married for several years. Jacaerys and Sara also never have children, yet there's the rumor Vermax laid eggs in the crypt, with some believing this may have meant Sara was pregnant (but perhaps miscarried) when Jacaerys left. I think however, the fact that both J&S couples kind of mysteriously do not have children of their own, and that their Houses descend from someone else to be important.

I've kind of briefly gone into the idea that Bran rules in a parliamentary style over (what's left of) Westeros, and while I'm not too committed one way or the other on whether he physically has children or whether they elect the ruler on the Iron Throne more often starting from Bran, the succession is significantly less of an issue because of the permanent Great Council/Parliament that will exist. Sansa (and Jon, for that matter), however, is the heiress to a long line of kings and lords and needs some sort of heir. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibililty that while in the Vale, she connects with some of Jocelyn Stark's descendants (the famous "Vale cousins" that Catelyn mentions as heirs for Robb) and makes one of them her heir, or even names the children of Arya her heir, and pulls a Queen Elizabeth, but then I thought of Vermax laying dragon eggs that are never found, and Jonnel and Sansa never having children, and George's love of threes and thought...perhaps Jon and Sansa will have an heir, but Sansa can't claim the child as hers.

In that same vein, it’s noteworthy to me as well that Serena and Edric (Sansa's younger sister and Jonnel's younger brother) have TWO sons but the line completely bypasses them. We have no idea how the Northerners felt about these marriages beyond the fact that they didn't like Lynara's sons because their rules were plagued by troubles. Is it possible that they chose to bypass Edric's sons because of the incest, and Sansa/Jon may be forced to reconcile with how the realm views him (as Ned's son) and what he actually is (Lyanna's son) when it comes to the line of succession? IE - Vermax is rumored to lay an egg in the crypts but no one ever finds out, Sansa is rumored to have have had a child with her “brother” but no one ever finds out the truth.

TO SUM UP: I think the Pact of Ice and Fire is a hint that Jon and Sansa will secretly marry in the godswood of Winterfell, and it's likely that when Sansa is named Queen in the North, her heir will be "fathered by a wolf" or a "wildling" and she and Jon won't be able to tell anyone that Jon is the father.

     Serena’s voice is very distinct. It is on the lower end of things, which adds a very soothing sort of air, and comes from from her chest, without any nasally elements to it. However, it is to be expected, as she grew up speaking languages that do not have very many nasal-based sounds, if at all. Words come out smoothly, even if she tends to speak at a rather quick pace, but always carries with it a very gentle and sweet tone.      Until, of course, things become more serious. Then, she is very much capable of sounding quite intimidating, if only because of the stark contrast between that, and her usual tones.

     Aside from this, due to growing up in a very remote area of Sinnoh, Serena has a very thick Sinnohan accent that persists regardless of the language that she happens to be speaking. As such, when voicing certain sounds from Unovan-- like ‘th’ or ‘w’--, she tends to struggle with them a little, and leans solely on the Sinnohan pronunciation of those letter combinations-- ‘s’/’z’ or ‘v’. She also rolls her r’s, regardless of language, too, as it comes naturally to her, albeit to varying degrees depending on the word. They are unconscious details, but something that makes Serena’s voice her own, and quite difficult to mimic.

1. If you could hit any character without repercussions, who would it be? This is hard cause I could hit a lot of people, so I’m thinking which would have the worst repercussions that I can use this chance on. I suppose Damon Salvatore bc if I hit him, he’d probably kill me, except in this situation where there absolutely cannot be any repercussions.

2. What fandoms were you a part of that you aren’t any longer? Um... 5 Seconds Of Summer? I still like their music, and even watch interviews on occasion but I’m just not like engaged anymore. The Spider-people kept in touch once they realised they could universe hop. Miles hung out mostly with Gwen and Peter B. They went for snacks, and walks in the park, and helped each other on patrols. 

After a few weeks, Peter B invited Miles and Gwen over to his apartment to watch Star Wars. His universe was very bright, Miles thought. It was hard to see how the depressed Peter B could come from a world so full of colour. If Miles had his markers, he would love to sit in Central Park and sketch.

Peter’s apartment was cleaner than the first time Miles had been there. The dishes were put away and there was more than cold pizza in the fridge. It was obvious B was making an effort for MJ. They had been talking, Peter said. Miles was confident they’d be together again by the end of the year. 

Gwen and Miles took the couch. Peter threw himself on the rug. 

“Floor’s better for my back,” he said. 

The movie started. Miles kept sneaking glances at Gwen in the blue light of the TV.

“I thought C3PO was silver.”

“Shh.”

“Ian McKellen played Obi Wan in my ‘verse.”

“Shut up.”

The comments gradually died off as the movie progressed. Miles was trying to figure out how he could casually sling his arm over Gwen’s shoulder without Peter noticing. He started to creep his fingers over the back of the couch.

They’d reached that pinnacle moment of the movie. “No… I am your father.”

Gwen say bolt upright and screamed. “Holy crap! He’s Anakin?”

Miles startled, almost toppling off the couch.

“I thought you said you’d seen this?” Peter asked without looking.

Gwen grabbed Miles’ arm. “Why is Vader not Padme?”

“Padme?”

“Luke I am your mother!” She yelled, waving at the TV. “What is this?”

Peter and Miles exchanged a glance. “Do you have a different Star Wars?”

Peter interrupted. “Gwen, tell us Darth Vader’s Story.”

Gwen took a gulp of breath and started, “Okay, so Padme fakes her death in childbirth and vows vengeance on the Jedi for killing Anakin and she becomes Darth Vader. She raised Leia but she thought Luke was dead until they meet up again.”

Miles sat in stunned silence. “That’s not how this one goes.”

Gwen flapped her hands, “But then where’s the battle for the crown?”

“What crown?”

“Leila’s a princess, and Luke should be a prince, yes? But they’re twins and no one knows who was born first so they don’t know who is supposed to get the throne.”

Peter frowned. “Does Padme not know which child was born first?”

Gwen scowled, “She was a little busy giving birth to the second. It’s one of the greatest mysteries of Star Wars!”

She stared back and forth between their baffled expressions. “The whole second trilogy is based around the Skywalker crown.”

“Your Star Wars sounds way better than ours.”

Gwen had to laugh when Peter B told her Tony Stark was a hero in his ‘verse. In her universe Tony Stark was the playboy billionaire creator of Starkbucks, the overpriced coffee chain.

Miles glared at the chalkboard menu on the Starkbucks patio. 

“Pineapple should only ever be on pizza.” Miles spat.

Gwen sipped her pineapple mango frappuccino. “I like it.”

“Pineapple in drinks is weird.”

“I don’t get it man. It’s a fruit.” Peter said. 

“So’s a tomato.” Miles shot back.

Peter drank his black coffee and made a face. Served him right. No one came to Starkbucks for real coffee. 

Gwen waited until Miles took a big gulp of his drink, “In my universe we put pineapple in spaghetti.”

The spray of caramel chip macchiato was wide and satisfying.

Miles lay back on his bed and spoke into the phone. “You’re working in Hell’s Kitchen tonight?”

“Yeah,” Gwen sighed over the speaker. 

“Why don’t you ask Daredevil for help?”

The phone was silent for so long Miles thought the universal signal must have dropped.

“I’m not going to Murderdock.”

“What?” Miles sat bolt upright. “Why do you call him that?”

“He’s a murderer. The kingpin of New York.”

“Holy crap,” Miles breathed. He couldn’t match mild mannered Matt Murdock with Daredevil most nights. Nevermind thinking of him as a criminal mastermind. 

“Wait, what happened to the real Kingpin? Wilson Fisk?”

“Murdock killed him.”

“Matt, no.” Miles groaned.

“You know yours?” Gwen asked.

“Yeah, he’s a lawyer. And he’s blind.”

“So’s mine. Blind lawyer criminal scumbag.”

“Gwen, I’m so sorry.” Miles loved his Matt Murdock. Guy was a puppy dog until you let him loose on the streets in his costume. He brought Miles snacks on their team-ups. He had a laugh like a seal barking. 

Miles scrubbed a hand over his face. “It seems like all my heroes are their worst selves in your ‘verse.”

“Yeah…” Gwen trailed off. Miles fidgeted.

“Gwen?”

“What if this is the worst universe?” She asked quietly. “What if I’m the worst Spider-person?”

“You’re not,” Miles assured her.

“But you’re right. I’ve got no Iron Man, and Captain America hates me, Daredevil’s a criminal, Harry turned himself into a monster, and Peter…”

“I’m sorry,” Miles could think of nothing else to say.

“I just,” Gwen’s breath hitched. “I just need one person to be on my side. Just one.”

Miles’ heart skipped. “You’ve got me.” It passed like a confession over his lips.

A soft glow pulsed next to his head. A white gloved hand pushed through the light. Miles took it and pulled. Gwen fell through the tear in the universe. Miles wrapped her in a hug as her shoulders shook.

Miles was jumping to visit Peter B’s Central Park. Peter didn’t see how the park could be any different from his, but Miles insisted. 

“The colours are different. Like, more saturated,” he tried to explain. Peter didn’t get it. But he took Miles and Gwen tagged along. They stopped for ice cream and watched the ducks while Miles scribbled in his notebook. This was nice. Peter leaned back on the bench with a kid on either side.

Miles tossed his ice cream trash in the bin. “Yeet.”

Gwen scoffed. “It’s yote.”

“It’s not.”

“Do you seriously say Yeet?” Gwen leaned around Peter to make a disgusted face at Miles.

“Yes,” Miles closed his notebook.

“I think I just threw up in my mouth.”

“Wait, what about Kobe?”

“Kobe?” Peter was lost. “For accuracy?”

“No, it’s Lebron,” Gwen corrected.

“I love Lebron James,” Miles said the name in a weird voice.

Gwen scowled. “I recognise the meme you’re trying to do, but it’s Serena Williams.”

“No!” Miles groaned.

“What do you have against the greatest basketball player of all time?”

“She plays basketball?” Peter asked.

“Yeah. The Raptors won the championship because of her.” Huh. Remind Peter to ask if she played women’s basketball or if the NBA was a mixed gender sport.

“She’s a tennis player here.” Peter offered.

“She’s a swimmer in my ‘verse.” Miles nodded.

“No!”

“Wait, what about the pikachu reaction meme?” Miles asked to Peter’s bewilderment. 

“Oh, ‘cause of the face he just made?” Gwen poked Peter’s cheek. He batted her away. “It’s not pikachu, it’s bulbasaur.”

Miles nodded. “Ok, cool. What about Galaxy brain?”

Peter stood up and walked away. The two could bicker about internet fads all they wanted. He was going to feed the ducks.

“What do you mean penguins are extinct?” Peter gasped.

“I don’t know, man,” Miles held his hands up. “There was an earthquake and Antarctica sank or flooded or whatever and now there’s no penguins except in captivity.”

Peter scrutinized Miles through squinted eyes. The kid liked to mess with him. Penguins couldn’t be extinct, right? That was a joke?

“Um, can you put me down?” 

Peter hadn’t even realised he’d lifted Miles up by the front of his hoodie. Peter carefully set Miles back on his feet.

“When did this happen?” Peter demanded.

“I don’t know,” Miles shrugged. “Like, thirty years ago?”

Peter gasped. “Does that mean you’ve never seen a penguin?”

“Um, no?”

“Field trip,” Peter grabbed Miles’ arm and yanked him through the space between universes. If he focused, he could materialise them right outside the zoo gates. Actually, they should grab Gwen too. Did her universe have penguins? Who cared. The zoo was the perfect place for the kiddies to get closer. Peter could just slip away while they were watching the gorillas or whatever, and presto, instant date. Peter smiled to himself. He was such a good matchmaker.

Four new pilots this time!

Daphne Hatzidakis is the 19 year old pilot of Costa Pacifica. Leader of Squadron 3, she’s known for being a rather cold, distant and hard to read person, who’s also very strict with her teammates- qualities that for an outsider seem unfit for a leader. Daphne, however, is actually a very understanding person and a good listener, never ignoring or brushing off her teammates. She’s a silent but supportive person and always tries to take on challenges, but knows when to back off. She enjoys playing video games with her ship, Pacifica, and spends a lot of time in the gym.

Hayden Aberdeen is a 18 year old scottish/irish young man, pilot of RMS Carpathia. In a stark contrast to his ship’s gentle and soft behaviour, Hayden comes off as really volatile and irritable, who’s always angry at anything and everything, never showing a softer side. He, however, still cares for others. In his own way. Something made clear when he was on the mission to save Kazuya and Titanic- Hayden received the sunken ship with a colorful set of curses as his voice slightly broke at the end of some. He’s very reliable and even if he says that he’s not going to do something, he’ll do it. He has also a tendency to keep any little promise made, no matter how silly it is or how much time has passed. He never forgets them. He hates it when others say that his hairstyle looks like a hotdog.

Zhijian Xie is the 19 year old pilot of Costa Serena, coming from a traditional, rural chinese family. Very careful, moves around delicately and....very silently. A trait that the officials caught on and currently Zhijian is part of the stealth team. Despite his ease to blend in with his surroundings and move around without catching others’ attention, Zhijian is surprisingly talkative and always up for chatting, even agreeing on participating in some of Ryosei’s meme shenanigans and T-posing during morning calls. He’s of the very calculating type, relying heavily on logic and planning- easily becoming disoriented if there’s nothing for him to follow, which often gets him clashing with some of his teammates.

Alina K. Tereshchenko is a 18 year old russian girl, pilot of SS Monterey and in the elite category. Raised by her grandmother, Alina was exposed to carrying heavy weights and therefore developing a strong body from a young age. As soon as she enrolled in Sailor School, she was put in the martial arts program and by the end of it, was already a blackbelt, easily being one of the Base’s strongest close-combat fighters. Due to her “doll-like” appearance, many people underestimate her which she gets deeply angered by, something that she often uses to fuel her performance in battles. A very passionate and franc person, she’s not afraid of voicing her opinon and definitely not afraid of engaging in whatever fight that comes with it.

Welcome back to this week’s edition of the Sunday Funnies, where flying high on the list of headlines is how Stinky Joe continued to show more Hitler like tendencies – in his "Sith Lord" speech in Philadelphia – when he said how “The Jews are the cause of our problems.” Actually, he said that MAGA Voters are the cause of our problems but it’s pretty much the same thought. And he wants you to believe that MAGA Voters are the extremists destroying democracy. It’s called PROJECTION. As a result, the Stink Meister is using the Joseph Goebbels method of attack: “Accuse your enemies of doing exactly what you yourself are doing.”     And he also reminded everyone how they would need an F-15 Jet to defeat the American government…literally threatening Americans with military force.     On the West Coast, California governor (Gavin Newsome) last week announced plans to ban gas-powered vehicles by 2035. His Advanced Clean Cars II rule would ban ALL gas car sales in 2035…with no alternatives in place. Ironically (or NOT) a few days later California Says: "Avoid Charging EVs" amid grid emergency especially for the Labor Day weekend. LMAO!     Meanwhile – and flying under the radar – FBI official Timothy Thibault – who has been accused of blocking an investigation into Hunter Biden’s laptop - allegedly retired last week. And while the Washington Times reported Thibault was “escorted out of the building” his lawyers claim otherwise. LOL! People that retire do NOT get escorted out of the building. And they usually don’t hire lawyers to help them retire. Translation:  If he's telling the truth, it means he's running away scared.     So, as the Bizzarro/Clown world we’re living in becomes even more Bizzarro/Clownish, we remind you that many of the events we’re seeing today is precisely why we publish the Sunday Funnies. And please remember: The Sunday Funnies are not just about our nations bizarre state of politics/finance/beliefs. It’s about awareness of what’s happening in the world that we choose to poke fun at. B (A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind) - I honestly never thought about Demyx/Larxene from Kingdom Hearts, I only saw Axel/Larxene and Marluxia/Larxene as valid options.  But someone made up a good dynamic that the two would have if they gained hearts (since no way it would happen otherwise) and I thought it was pretty cute.  So now Demyx/Larxene is also a favorite Organization XIII ship of mine.

C (A ship you have never liked and probably never will) - There are quite a few, but off the top of my head I’m going with Amourshipping from the Pokemon anime. There is literally no substance to this ship at all.  Ash has no romantic feelings whatsoever for Serena and is oblivious to her feelings the whole way through, and everything on Serena’s side is incredibly unhealthy and demeans her entire character.  Yet this is the ship whose passionate fanbase say made the XY series so great, should still be a fixture in the anime, and demand everyone conform and acknowledge how good, sweet and canon it is? I’m sorry, but no.  It’s a shallow, sexist travesty and I’m never going to ship it. 

D (A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t) - Here’s a rather obscure one: Arnold/Helga from Hey Arnold!  I’m sorry, but I was never particularly big on it even when I wanted to be given what a big part of the show it is, and it shares a lot in common with Amourshipping: girl bases an obsessive love for a guy based on a single childhood encounter where he was nice to her, and it consumes her life to an unhealthy degree. She is borderline psychotic and he’s oblivious and they seem to develop less and less chemistry as the show goes on…it’s just not a good match. The main differences from Amourshipping is that Helga deals with her love for Arnold the opposite way than Serena does (bullying him as a front rather than being submissively nice to him), and that Helga’s actually a three-dimensional character who does get a lot of other stuff going on with her in the show that does not connect with Arnold in any way.  I fully support Helga finding love in her life…I just don’t think it should be with Arnold.

E (Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what) - I’ve suggested and put up stuff for several crack ships here and there, but I can’t remember or list all of them at this time.

J  (What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom) - I’ve been a Disney fan since childhood, does that count? XD

L (Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves) - I did appreciate Ronaldo acknowledging that he had been a jerk, apologizing to Steven for it and backing out of trying to be a Crystal Gem at the end of “Rocknaldo”.  He still didn’t learn to fix the personality defect that had led to the problem to start with, but hey, it was at least something.

N (Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice) - I don’t have a main fandom, so a fandom of my choice it is. And I choose Pokemon.  I want less pushing for conformity in opinion and more tolerance for opposing views, less taking things so damn seriously, and more attention paid to more obscure parts of the franchise, like spin-off games and different mangas. 

O (Choose a song at random, which ship or character does it remind you of) -  This song reminds me of Kairi and Sora/Kairi from Kingdom Hearts.  Can’t imagine why. XD

P (Invent a random AU for any fandom) - From Code Geass: Euphemia is captured by the Black Knights before trying to launch the SAZ, becoming their apparent prisoner-of-war but is actually a secret helper and consultant.  

S (Show us an example of your personal headcanon) - Charmcaster in Ben 10 is obsessed with looking cool and stylish, particularly in comparison to her rival Gwen Tennyson, when in fact she’s a huge nerd herself and is highly embarrassed about this.

Z (Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go) - It is such a good time to be a Disney fan right now.  Ever since John Lassetter joined up, things have gotten better and better from the dark period of Eisner’s excessive, unfiltered control.  And now almost all of Disney’s properties are in order - their animated movies are great, their live-action remakes are successful, their Star Wars and Marvel ouput is of high quality, the Disney Channel is more tolerable, Disney XD has come into its own and is actually leading the charge of quality TV animation, Disney Jr.’s latest shows can even be enjoyed by older audiences, and even Mickey Mouse is having actual stuff done with him beyond mascotting.  There are some weak links, like the sorry state of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, but even then at least Kingdom Hearts III is FINALLY being released next year. All in all, I could not be happier with Disney.

MTV Movie & TV Awards Nominations Are In

The nominations for the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards are finally here!

MTV revealed this year's contenders on Tuesday—and fans definitely recognized a few familiar titles.

Game of Thrones, Avengers: Endgame and RBG received the most nominations with four nods each. The HBO hit snagged a spot in the Best Show category for the third year in a row. What's more, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams scored nominations for their performances. The Daenerys Targaryen star received a nomination for Best Performance in a Show for her role, and the Arya Stark character was nominated in the Best Hero and Best Fight categories.

Meanwhile, Avengers: Endgame landed nominations in the Best Movie category, as well as in the Best Fight category for Captain America's face-off against Thanos. In addition, Robert Downey Jr.. received a nomination in the Best Hero category for his portrayal of Iron Man, and Josh Brolin received a nod in the Best Villain category for his role as Thanos.

As for RBG, the film about Ruth Bader Ginsburg scored nominations in the Best Documentary and Best Fight. It was also named a contender for Most Meme-able Moment and Real-Life Hero—two of the award show's new categories.
