This is something people with sensory issues will have Keen Opinions on, but everyone is welcome. If you vote maybe give it a reblog too so it gets around! Feel free to explain why your vote is obviously the worst in the tags!

okay fellow autistics & people who have sensory issues or trouble eating specific foods: hear me out.
I’ve been trying my best to eat more fruits & vegetables & more generally “healthy” food (I don’t think we should label specific foods as “good” or “bad” because food at all is better than no food etc, but that’s besides the point) & I’ve realised something.
If I pretend to be a specific animal while eating a certain food, it can be marginally easier to eat. HEAR ME OUT, OKAY?! Put away the reactionary part of you that goes “wow, that’s cringe”, because this genuinely helps me. I don’t care if you laugh, grow up.
For example, if I pretend I’m a bunny rabbit while eating celery or lettuce, it sort of becomes fun! It turns into me playing a part in my head, kind of. I also do this with sultana bran/raisin bran kind of cereal, where I’m like “hehe this looks like bird/rabbit food” & it becomes easier!
I just thought I’d share this trick in case it helps anyone else. It’s alright if it doesn’t help you, but I’m proud of the efforts you’re making to get better at eating certain foods, it’s not easy. & if you’re finding it hard to start trying foods out of your comfort zone, I’m proud of you as well 💕💕

Children do not need to grow into being people, they’re already people and of course they have things to learn but they deserve to be treated with autonomy and respect. Especially queer and disabled children, we deserve better.

"you're actually infantalizing yourself if you chew on baby toys as an autistic person! you're creating a harmful stereotype!" would an infant be able to place that pipe bomb in your mailbox.

another autism tip for anyone who might find it useful: make earrings out of your loop earplugs!
Tumblr media
earplugs/earbuds like these tend to fall out for me no matter what size i wear. (that’s why i have “wired” wireless earbuds too lol) so if they’re attached to my ears, i can’t lose them! not only that, but it makes it easier for me to take them on and off as needed without having to put them back into the case every time. yes you can get that loop link thing but. €20? for that? this is way cheaper and way more fashionable

So asinine to me that neighborhood noise ordinances only apply to night time
There are endless reasons a person might need to sleep during the day, on any given day or regularly. Sleep disorders and chronic fatigue are not uncommon and are a byproduct of countless other conditions, also people work nights.
There are endless reasons other than sleep that a person might need a reasonably quiet environment. People work from home. People have different neurotypes. People have sensory and auditory issues. People have migraines and endless other noise-sensitive conditions. People have children and pets with these issues.
People deserve to not hear ridiculous volumes from inside their homes against their will, regardless of their schedule, health conditions, or anything else.
Emergency responders definitely work nights and definitely definitely should be so so well rested please if I need emergency surgery or a house fire put out at 2am in the future I would love if the people I call about that were on top of their game idk
I don’t think a man’s right to vroom-vroom his old car in his yard for hours at a time and blast bass-heavy music from his driveway and light off firecrackers all day is more important that any of that but okay

Hey other autistic (and otherwise neurodivergent) peeps, I need to share this tip with you.
If you are (same as me) always searching for new comfort objects or things that make daily life less harsh, try and look in the baby section.
Baby stuff is made to be gentle, to be safe, and (usually) to calm them down. I always skipped it since I haven't been a baby for a very long time and also hope to not have a baby for a very long time, but I have found now multiple items there that helped me with my sensory issues.
I recently found a starprojector there, which gives off the perfect amount of light if I am overstimulated. (And has pretty stars!) I now use it every night as a night light before I go to sleep, and I love it so so much. And I bought the softest plushie, like super super super soft, who has been my comfort in quite a stressful time.
