Favorite Self-Rec Fics
@thestalwartheart tagged me for this a bit ago, and I am just now getting around to doing it. Apologies for that. It's been a crazy week. 1. Traitor's Gate - This is actually one of my earlier works in the 00Q fandom, and it tends to fly beneath the radar. It was inspired by a lovely moment I spent looking across The Thames at The Tower of London after seeing Ben Whishaw portray Brutus in Julius Caesar. It's one of my favorite fics because of that memory. 2. 21 Grams - Though it is currently the 8th part in the WaterVerse series, it was originally the fourth one written. It's a close examination of what James is like after a catastrophic tragedy befalls his family. Yes, it does help to read the previous installments. 3. Hello (co-authored with @boffin1710) - Our most recent fic, it focus on grief and the grieving process, and what happens when James comes back to London 15 years after he left with Madeleine Swann and finds a very different Q from the man he knew before. 4. Without Being Told (co-authored with @boffin1710)- Though it is still a WiP, and lonnnnng one, it came along at a time that was such a difficult one for so many people, not just in the fandom, but world wide, and because of that it will always have a special place in my heart. Well, because of that and long-suffering Alec and "catting" Q. It was a toss up for this fourth fic: Without Being Told or Château de la Résurrection. I like them both so much. Boffin and I have made a promise to one another (and consequently to our readers) that it will be finished. 5. Bouncy - Pure, unapologetic crack. Drunk Q. Reallllly drunk Q! Complete with the gif that inspired the fic.
I must now tag 5 other fanwork creators, so I choose: @ato-the-bean, @castillon02, @boffin1710, @notwhatyouthoughtiwas, and @verdigrissoup

Trying to be better about responding to mentions/tags! So here we go!
rules: share five of your own fanworks (fic, art, etc.). then, tag five more people to share the things they’ve made.
1. Something you absolutely adore:
'Til Winter’s End: I had been feeling stalled on my main series that took place over the course of the DAI timeline, so I allowed myself to change gears to this and it reawakened my enthusiasm for writing. From the very first to the very last chapter, this was a joy to write, and I am so pleased that I was able to stick it out so that I can now present it as a standalone and complete work. Yes, it’s only the first arc in an ongoing series, but it can also be read just on its own. I absolutely adore writing Theresa and Cullen as an established couple, navigating their lives after the Inquisition together.
2. Something that was challenging to create:
Lead Her Through the Darkness: This was my first attempt writing someone else’s OC for a gift fic exchange, and holy crap was I nervous!!! I fretted over this story and was so stressed the whole time I was writing it, wondering whether it would be good enough, whether the receiver would like it, whether I was representing their OC accurately and respectfully... I am so incredibly proud of this fic, and so beyond pleased at how well it was received and embraced. It remains one of my favorite things I’ve written.
3. Something that makes you laugh or smile:
Fiercely Perish: Started as a crackfic idea that spiraled until I spilled out an entire story about it. Still technically a crackfic I suppose, but also just a helluva fun story. It’s AdoriBull, but it’s also Die Hard, but it’s set in Thedas, and also an April Fool’s fic. If you like action/comedy, or if you like Die Hard, please give this a read! It was probably the most fun I’ve had writing any story lol.
4. Something that surprised you (how it turned out, how others liked it, etc.):
Blood in my mouth, and the bitterness in goodbye: Not necessarily surprising, but more of a revelation. This story was a beautiful window into Leliana’s POV for me, and I feel like every draft gave me more epiphanies about her character. It’s tragic, but it’s hopeful. Just like she is.
5. Something you want other people to see:
Swept Away: I forget when I first got the idea for this pairing, but the instant I realized that Josephine and Isabela would be the ultimate power couple and that they’d never actually met in the DA-verse, I set out to write this story. I’m finally publishing it after years of work, and I am so unbelievably excited for others to read it! This has definitely been a labor of love, and I adore these two as a couple. They’re a match - opposite sides of the same coin. I love them.
Thanks for the tag @theluckywizard! I’m tagging @exalted-dawn-drabbles, @bluewren, and @dalishkadan. Sorry if anyone got double-tagged!
Self-Recommendation Tag Game
rules: share five of your own fanworks (fic, art, etc.). then, tag five more people to share the things they've made.
Thank you for the tag @nirikeehan <3
1. Something you absolutely adore: The Boy Who Talked too Much was my first attempt at writing Alistair and gosh, I just LOVE writing that man. His brain may be my brain? I had such a great time being in his head and getting into his silliness and nervousness and the thinking and talking too much. It is a 'first kiss/first sexual encounters' fic, so definitely NSFW, but it's fundamentally just sweet reading along as bold Elissa melt Alistair's precious brain. WC: 2,373 Rating: Explicit (high school level smut antics) Ships: Alistair x Elissa
2. Something that was challenging to create: Pull Me from the Dark is a character study I wrote for Hawke from his POV when I was still getting to know him. I really spent the time to get his vibe right. I wanted to plumb the depths so to speak. He's a really goofy, silly guy and it would be easy for him to become a caricature so this was an early attempt at giving him some real depth and I'm still so proud of it. WC: 2107 Rating: Mature (oblique reference to sex, Varghest gore) Ships: Rose Trevelyan x Garrett Hawke
3. Something that makes you laugh or smile:
That would be Good Old Garbolg which I wrote in response to a Bottle of Thedas prompt for Garbolg's Backcountry Reserve. It's my OC's Hawke and Rose being absolutely silly goobers on an adventure to taste the mystery booze in a bottle they found in the Fallow Mire. WC: 1462 Rating: Explicit but probably more like Mature tbh (I err on the side of caution) Ships: Rose Trevelyan x Garrett Hawke 4. Something that surprised you (how it turned out, how others liked it, etc.):
The Assassin's Masque (or High Falutin Hawke and his Foxy Boss Try Subterfuge at Halamshiral) surprised me by how much I absolutely ADORED having Hawke at the Winter Palace as an Inquisition Agent. So much that I threw away about 70k words of my long fic to make it happen for real. It is the definition of shenanigans. Hawke is there to be a distraction and to help with the collection of information and, you know, breaking and entering as the case may be. He's also able to provide Inquisitor Rose with some sexy cover. ;) WC: 3745 Rating: Teen for some general sauciness Ships: Rose Trevelyan x Garrett Hawke
5. Something you want other people to see:
Well Did You Miss Me? is my flangst with a side of angst fic that has spawned an entire long fic. Hawke has been trapped in the Fade for over a year and Rose has learned to have a recurring dream to block out the nightmares of him staying there. Hawke breaks into her dream from the Fade to make contact with her. I poured my soul into this one. My blorbos deserve to be happy. WC: 5062 Rating: Explicit (sex) Ships: Rose Trevelyan x Garrett Hawke (sensing a theme here? lmao)
Tagging @rakshadow, @breninarthur, @agentkatie, @warpedlegacy, @kiastirling-fanfic, @crackinglamb, @about2dance and anyone else who wants to participate <3

And so begins my Cultivate spam…
This may be the prettiest Liu Qingge I’ve ever drawn…idk is he too pretty? I know that’s his thing but I may have gone a bit overboard. 😅 But the minute @neonghostcat gave us that bath scene my brain was seized by a “paint me like one of your French girls” moment & I decided to just go all out 🤣
The way he was so ready & willing to pose for his own xianxia nudes…Iconic™.
Hang in there Liu Qingge, Shen Yuan’s almost there…

🌫️ Sept. 27, 2024 🌫️
Today I:
Had yet another interview
Worked on TEFL methodology course
Practiced spanish
Edited my friend’s story
I love editing for friends SO much. It’s so wonderful to be able to comb through their stories and learn how each author, each friend, works and thinks and creatively approaches situations. I love being able to talk to the authors, too! I get to share my earnest reactions to scenes, make silly comments in the margins, and text them over dramatic or surprising moments. How cool is that?? I get to explore entire worlds made by people I love, and then I get to talk about the experience of exploring it with them?? WOW!

I've finally made some silhouette art for Sterek AND I wrote a ficlet to go with it! The Camaro AND the Jeep also make appearances, because of course they do. ;P I thought I'd tap into something a little different from the usual, since a. May has been a cray roller coaster of unknowns and feels, b. time has been limited and trying to work on creative work has been an interesting challenge, and c. any major WIP projects are for secret or anon events, so I sadly can't say much about them right now. This was inspired by @yearoftheotpevent's May prompt "sunshine." Because we all deserve Nice Things (and so do Derek and Stiles). Cheers, and enjoy! Title: Pink Lemonade  (<- on AO3) Rating: Teen WC: 600 (w/ art) Tags: Sunrises, Road Trips, Adventure, Silhouettes, Cars, Slice of Life, Derek Hale is a Softie, Stiles Stilinski Deserves Nice Things, Established Relationship, Picnics, Romance, Feelings, Mixed Media, Digital Art, Ficlet, POV Stiles Stinlinski Summary:
"Stiles?" Derek murmurs, watching him closely. Almost hesitantly, as if Stiles might bolt at any second.
"Holy fucking—oh my God," Stiles blurts out instead. He most definitely flails while staring at Derek in awe. "Why have you never told me about this place before?" [Or: Derek surprises Stiles by taking him to one of his favorite spots for an early morning picnic.]

{ 04.11.24 } · { 50 days of routine } · { day 6 }
I'm starting this week not feeling too confident in my ability to ever be able to follow my ideal routine. But I can't let that stop me from trying again. That's always what's happened in the past and it makes me sad to look back on it.
woke up at 5am and couldn't go back to sleep but i stayed in bed until 7am...continued making my way through the CBT workbook until 6:30 and i'm still on ch 3, idk how you could possibly blow through ch 1-3 in less than a week... i wasn't “supposed” to, but i know people who do. CAN WE (read: I) JUST STOP FEELING GUILTY FOR NOT DOING THINGS AS FAST AS OTHER PEOPLE DO (and for not “taking stock” of my entire life every month or so because i'm 99.999% sure that if i do that i will go in-f*cking-sane as i get even further stuck in my head and more discouraged and idk why i'm so mad today! 😤)
i finished the pathology assignment before the deadline which made me feel a little better
walk and watch and then this song popped into my feed and i decided to give it a listen and it was really good but the ending was so sad i had to pause it near the end so i wouldn't just break down at my desk
watched another linda sun video and felt seen.
felt better mentally but could not concentrate on anything so i listened to my body, withered my tree, and just took a nap. it was a good nap that together with lunch, gave me the energy to...
finish 1.5 more sections of last week's microbiology module (5.5/6 sections complete!)
do research for the global health assignment (not as much as i would have liked bc the power went out in our neighborhood and when we came back from dinner out, i was just...tired again. so i got ready for bed and cleaned my desk as inspired by Zesty)
🎀 TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER 🎀

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass it on to some other writers if you like. Let’s spread the self-love 💜 (i personally hate these sorts of chain-letter things, so no pressure, but i do like to know which of their works a given author particularly loves, so consider this an opportunity to celebrate your work!)
Man, my instinct was "but I haven't written enough to have five favorites" and then i looked at my works page and I was like. Huh. Ok, actually that's wrong somehow.
Anyway.
The Next Level - Sandman/Good Omens crossover.
Originated entirely from that post where Neil said that Aziraphale and Crowley like to hold hands. Wrote it during a work training conference instead of paying full attention. As you do.
Put that Thing Back Where it Came From or So Help Me - Sandman,
My gen Gault and Jed buddy adventure story that took me a while to write but I got there in the end. Unfortunately for me, the readers don't go for gen-fic, so it has a third the reads of my other stuff. QQ
Wash these Sins On Down the River - Dreamling AU, written to go with @teejaystumbles art.
Vampire Hob, mysterious supernatural entity Dream. Gosh this was fun to write have take over my entire brain for like two months.
The Vampire, Formerly of Surrey - for The Angel of the Crows by Katherine Addison.
I just really wanted more Crow and Doyle, and also there's only eight works in that fandom and I got to deal with my personal feelings about both vampires and chronic illness.
Lowdown and Dirty - for the Foreigner series by CJ Cherryh
Still really proud of this one, even though it's from 2017, before I took my five year fanfic writing hiatus. This was just me going "wouldn't it be fun if Ilisidi Filed Intent on Bren for sneaky political reasons? he would be so hurt and annoyed and inconvenienced."

Gideon The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
This book is the first novel of the Locked Tomb series. I have been seeing it online for a while now, and if at first I was a bit intimidated because it's part of a series, and usually I prefer stand-alone novels, at the end I gave in. I am so glad I did, I loved every page of this novel, and I cannot wait to continue the series. I can safely say I will reread this book in the future and that this novel has probably got a spot in my list of favourites books.
Gideon The Ninth is famously described as a book about "lesbian necromancers in space", which definitely helped with sparking an interest in me, but it so much more than that. It could be described as an in-between of fantasy and science fiction, mostly because of it's space setting. The story is focused on Gideon who just wants to leave her planet and the ninth house, and Harrowhark, a necromancer of the ninth house who is in need of a cavailer. Despite their history of mutual hatred they answer the call of the Emperor, the immortal ruler of the nine planets of the system of Dominicus. A necromancer from each of the nine planets has been called and is accompained by their cavailer to the First planet, where the story is set. I will not say more about the plot, because to be honest I think that the less you know about this novel the more you will enjoy it. One of the things I liked the most about this book was the writing. It's unexpectedly funny, I found myself laughing out loud more than once, and I was pulled into the story so much by it. I loved it, and I think it's one of the strong points of this book. The characters are also really well done in my opinion because you end up caring about them very quickly, and the side characters as well, are all defined quite well and very intriguing. The story unfolds in a pace that becomes quicker and quicker, and I found myself struggling with putting the book down. One morning I read over 100 pages without even realizing. The more things you find out, the more you need to know, it's just a really addictive book.
Often people who are not really into fantasy and science fiction tend to avoid the genre becuase it can be a bit overwhealming at first. I think this novel is the complete opposite, especially thanks to its writing. I would recommend this book to all those people who would like to dabble into fantasy but feel intimidated by it. This novel has a perfect balance with darker themes (at the end of the say we are talking about a magic system based on necromancy) and a very fun writing style that makes it very approachable. This incredibly well done mix is what made me absolutely fall in love with the book. Overall the narration works amazingly, I could picture each scene as if I were watching a movie with is not always the case with all books I read. If you couldn't tell I really loved this novel and want others to read it, I think I said enough about it, and I cannot wait to continue the series.
I read this for the space opera prompt of the jumbo reading challenge.

30 Day Fictionkind Challenge Day 21
Q: What's something about the fictionkind community that you wish was different?
A: There are a few things. Listing them all would make me sound like a naive idealist, but I'll do it anyway because I enjoy rambling.
For one, I wish it was bigger! At least, the community that knows the actual definition of fictionkin and doesn't define it as something that doesn't include identifying as your fictotype. Twitter is especially bad with this and I don't enjoy the culture there. From what I've seen, Tumblr gets it, but the fictionkin population is definitely smaller. It's hard to look for fictionkin (or fictionfolk in general)-specific community, but that may just be because I'm not looking hard enough. I'm primarily looking for sourcemates though, and that's definitely been a challenge. ID/V has little to no fandom presence on Tumblr unfortunately, and fictionfolk from that source are even harder to come by.
Piggybacking off of my first point about wanting more community that knows the actual definition of ficitonkin, I wish there wasn't so much misinformation. Maybe this doesn't count in the way I'm thinking of because that's technically outside of the community, but still. I often lament about how many incorrect definitions of "fictionkin" are out there, in the public consciousness. It's caused people to water fictionkinity down into things like "relating to the character", "connecting to the character", or "being a really big fan of the character".
I often see people pathologizing fictionkinity and treating it as if it were inherently a delusion. This can be the case, and is deserving of respect. It's not like that for everyone, though, and to assume so is incredibly presumptuous at best, and invasive and harmful at worst. As a result of this, I've seen people feel the need to reinvent fictionkinity by saying "It's not kin and it's not a D/A, it's just me." That is what 'kin is, or what it's supposed to mean.
You don't have to adopt any labels you don't want to, but I wish people would at least do some research and examine why they're averse to this label. If you walk away from it still not comfortable with it, that's all well and good; at least you're informed now. But if you do end up liking it, you have a community waiting for you with open arms. I guess I can't fully blame them, because the misinfo is so rampant, but it still bums me out sometimes.
Piggybacking x2, I wish there wasn't so much infighting and fakeclaiming. The psychological vs spiritual dichotomy for example is strange to me. All experiences within that binary, inbetween, and outside of it are equally deserving of acknowledgement and respect.
Doubles exist, and you retain the right to feel uncomfortable or not want to interact with them, but to call them all fake is extremely rude. Their identities are just as real and don't compromise your own. Just block and move on.
Someone with "unusual" or "too many" or "cringy/weird" or "problematic" fictotypes is still valid and deserving of dignity and decency. Again, if you're uncomfortable with someone, you don't have to interact with them. If they're not bringing material harm to themselves or others, it's no one's business. They're real people with feelings and struggles of their own, I'm sure rude comments about their fictotype(s) is the last thing they need. You don't know nor are you entitled to their personal information or relationship to their source(s). Either be courteous or leave them alone.
Basically, I just wish people would realize there's no strict rulebook to being fictionkind. As long as you earnestly, involuntarily identify as your fictotype, you're golden. As for voluntary cases, they're perfectly valid fictionfolk too, this is just a fictionkind-specific post :]. But copinglinkers and other voluntary alterfictional identities, I'm waving and wish you all the best.
There might be other stuff, but this is all I can think of for now. Let me know if I'm talking out of my ass for any of this. I guess I just want people to be kinder and more open to what this community actually is. It's a genuine identity with a rich community history that encompasses many different kinds of experiences, and that's so cool.

Doing this every month! Here is last months, but below we continue with the suggestions from this month (May).
Tumblr media
Fic: Relativity (or the Mutable Nature of Time)
Authors: alpha_hydra, geo039
Fandom: Scum Villain Self-Saving System
Pairing; Luo Binghe/Shen Yuan
Rating: General Audiences
Length: 17936
Recommendation: This is listed as "inspired by Howl's Moving Castle," but what this mostly captures the world of inherent magic from the Dianne Wynn Jones novel. I'm not someone who reads a lot of SVSSS fic - I think this is likely the first one mentioned on this rec blog. I love the way that this writer builds a world, the way that they populate it so fully.

20 Questions
Tagged by the wonderful @practicecourts! Thank you for the tag 💗💗
*
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
10!!!!
2. What's your total AO3 words count?
188,018 which feels insane!!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Harry Potter (More specifically the Marauders)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
These Cruel Delights
Stage Lights
Tiny Miracles
Paint Brushes and Spell Books
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I always try to!! For me comments encourage me to keep writing and I like to let people know that I appreciate them taking the time to comment on my work.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
*Sit's there awkwardly with a pil of unfishinshed fics*
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Definetly Charred Pineaple Margarita's and a Bagel. One of my fluffier fics and has a cute ending imo
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No thankfully!! I could never imagine hating on an individual fic, if you don't like something just leave. Fandom discourse is a whole other bucket of worms.
9. Do you write smut. If so what kind?
I dooooo or rather I tryyyyyyy. It's pretty regualr run of the mill smut, and it's absolutley plot driven. I want to get better and feel less awkward while writing it!!
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
No i do not. I don't really enjoy cross over personally, borrowing other worlds can be well done thought.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No I haven't thankfully!!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No but that would be so cool if it was!! I'd love to see These Cruel Delights translated into either French or German once it's done, but my written language skills in both languages aren't good enough.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
No but i'd be very open to it. It seems like a lot of fun and getting to play off of another authors style would be fascinating.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Jily, duh. 😉
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I will finish ALL of my works I'm not putting that energy out into the universe 😭
16. What are your writing strengths?
100% dialogue. I adore writting dialogue, it's so fun and allows you to build relationships and dynamics. I really want to try my hand at a text fic one day because i feel like it's a great way to build a dialogue only fic.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
description and scene building. I feel Like i haven't captured a way to describe a scene in a natural and flowing manner.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I think it can be done so long as it's either translated or feels properly placed.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Narnia actually, back on the good ol' fanfiction.net as a wee baby teen. (but we don't talk about that one😗)
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
The Devil In the Cloakroom and These cruel Delights!!! The devil in the cloak room was SO much fun to write and i can't wait to finish it either this week or next <3

✨ Self Rec Tag Game✨
I was tagged by @ndostairlyrium <3 welp I don't know where to start, I guess I'll mix and match mediums lol
Rules: Share five of your own fanworks (fic, art, etc.). Then, tag five more people to share the things they've made.
Something you absolutely adore
Something that was challenging to create
Something that makes you laugh (or smile, if that fits more comfortably)
Something that surprised you (in how it turned out, how much other people liked it, etc.)
Something you want other people to see
Something you absolutely adore
Tumblr media
I made this ten years ago and for the love of god I swear I could not possibly make it today. Yes it has like million imperfections but I'm still proud of it to this day (strangely lol)
Something that was challenging to create
Tumblr media
Well I'd say definitely my shrios long fic, Against the Odds. It took me nearly 10 years to finish it and then I went and edited it and translated it in English. And then I printed it because after all the work I wanted to have it in my hands, literally.
Something that makes you laugh (or smile, if that fits more comfortably)
This fic right here. It's very old and very imperfect (and in my native language) but I remember how much fun I had writing it and it still brings a smile to my lips. Maybe one day I'll edit and translate it so I can post it on Ao3 as well.
Something that surprised you (in how it turned out, how much other people liked it, etc.)
This one shot. Fun fact, when I wrote it, years and years ago, I was fucking embarrassed and didn't want to post it. But then I posted it anyways and 9 ( N I N E ) people liked it and I was like whoa, really? (Nine likes back then was a pretty good number lol)
Something you want other people to see
Tumblr media
Definitely this collab I made with @ndostairlyrium for N7 Day 2022. We worked our asses off and I had the absolute pleasure to embroider her impeccable lines on a pretty big piece of fabric <3 It was days and days of work and I'm proud of what we accomplished.
Thank you so much for tagging me <3 I'm skipping tags because I'm pretty sure everybody 's already done it but if that's not the case consider yourself tagged ;)

Decided to give myself a challenge by a. signing up for the Stiles Shipping Central Ficlet Exchange to b. use 2 weeks to write something that's 2k or less. What an interesting ride that was, since writing something so quickly is not my normal jam, but I did it! This ficlet is for @just-another-busy-fangirl-writes for June's theme of "cooking" and her prompt was : Providing for a mate is important to wolves. Derek, however, hasn't had many opportunities to provide food for Stiles, since he's not the most savvy in the kitchen. Also inspired by @tw-anchor-down's Full Moon Round prompts "flicker" and "skyrocket."

Summary: Derek missed Stiles. He hadn’t realized how much…until now. Something had to change. But where did he even start? [Or: That one time Derek makes dinner for Stiles, thanks to inspiration from a family recipe and some nudging from Cora.]
So, when found out I had @just-another-busy-fangirl-writes as a giftee and I saw her prompts, I screamed since they were all so damn good! I actually had to roll dice since I couldn't make up my mind…that was how awesome the prompts were (I may just dip back into the other prompts later...it's tempting but we shall see!). First time writing from Derek's PoV, but gosh, he's such a Fluffywolf and a dummy. At least he figures his stuff out in the end and has Cora to back him up. I didn't even realize cooking would bring out emotional anchoring, so yep. That's threaded in there, I guess. Anyway, I hope you appreciate some Hale family feels and cultural and foodie references too. Enjoy!
