Phewwwww Your Gurl HC, has been on the tools a bit the last few days Y'all. Sweet pies, Brittles, Hams, Turkeys, Libations, and a few Hemings' Mac and Cheeses for the most excellent and generous Feasters around. I even pulled off a Mexican Vegan family dinner for some lovely folks. Today's round of pick-ups was such a joyful and giggly time. I am so very grateful to be healthy and capable to add to these important gatherings. With everything going on it sure is nice to be able to be included around the sacred holiday table. Tanny loved dinner so much yesterday he demanded I add to the pot!!! So I have… and it’s bluddy lush!!! . . A couple more tins of tomatoes, 1 bottle of passata extra herbs, spices and stock and some broken up spaghetti and there it is, enough from that one pot to feed both Tanny and I for another 3-4 days… . . Cost of the whole thing … less than £6 including electric. I figure that’s not bad for a from scratch recipe. . . Video is out tomorrow!!! Did anyone else grow up eating franks and beans on Saturday nights? We had the brown bread that came in the can sometimes, too. I use my grandmother’s small bean pot these days and Mary Anderson’s recipe. (As in Maureen’s mom). She made the best ever! (Sorry, Mom...) These days we only have them a few times a year and I bet you can guess what we’re having for dinner on this Saturday night. They will simmer away the afternoon in a very low heat oven and smell divine. Happy Thanksgiving! Didn’t want to make a turkey for 20 during the smaller gatherings, so changed it up this year to Cornish Game Hens. Rubbed the hens with a garlic, nutmeg, all spice, and thyme paste. Gave them a little seat to crisp the skin. Stuffed them with celery and onion. Cooked them in the smoker for about an hour until they were ready. Served up with green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy from the drippings (rue made with rice flour, due to kiddos wheat allergy - came out great), honey glazed ham, and sweet potato casserole. Gorgeous organic collards, and heritage pork raised by @wild.grove brought over so I could contribute to what we affectionately call *The Family Dinner*. It's braised 🥬collards, Jerked candied🍠 yams, buttermilk 🍯honey cornbread, sticky sweet and spicy bbq sauce lacquered 🍖pork belly rubs. This meal is has all the hallmarks of the Diaspora that have impressed on me in an alchemic way. It's the meal I make when I want to show the best parts of my heritage. When I want to talk deeply about terroir and the importance of honoring the ✊🏽Ancestors. It's what I make when I want to seduce your senses. It's the meal that I would serve my parents and Grandparents to assure them that I've found my way and my Purpose. It's the meal that is as decadent and indulgent as it is humble. It shows off great technique and age old skills.
