June of Doom Day 11
11. “We’re out of time.”
| Firearm | Backseat | Self-defense |
TW: blood oath, non-con kissing
A/N: Alternate Universe - Demons
~
'We're out of time.'
Nurse Chapel's words were still wandering through his head when Montgomery Scott entered the deserted crossroads, far from any civilization. In his trembling hands he held a small metal box, which he pressed close to his chest. He closed his eyes and swallowed. How had it come to this?
Of course... There was only one reason. Everything that was important to him. Everything he loved and valued.
'Leonard...'
The name flashed through his mind and he sighed deeply. His loved one had been infected on a mission with a bacterium for which there seemed to be no cure. If they didn't find a way soon, the CMO of the Enterprise would die.
Scotty shook his head to get rid of the horrible images.
The work of the scientific team was not progressing fast enough, so there was only one solution: a miracle!
Scotty did not know if his plan would work, but all the prayers had brought nothing.
'The opposite then...'
The engineer knelt down, put the box aside, and started digging a small hole in the sandy roadbed with his hands. He had no idea how deep it had to be for the ritual, so he just kept digging until his fingers hurt, bled, and he could take no more.
He took the metal box in his hands and gently placed it in the hole, thinking of what the box was filled with. It were many things, important to him personally. But he would now have to part with them. For Leonard.
The Scotsman filled the hole again and then straightened up, looking around. What should he do now?
Should he just stand still and wait? Was there a special magic formula?
He was about to leave, his head down low, and turned around, when suddenly a man stood right in front of him. He was startled and took a step back. Should it really have worked? Were the stories his wee grandmother had told him true?
"Hello, Montgomery," the stranger said with a smile.
How did he know his name?
Scotty eyed his counterpart. He was a handsome man with raven-black hair and cool blue eyes. He wore a black suit, was neatly dressed.
"H-hello," the engineer stammered, not knowing what to say.
The man chuckled. His human counterpart had just summoned a demon and the only thing he had to say was to return the 'hello'? Usually humans demanded what they wanted right away. But Montgomery Scott was apparently different.
"You called me. What can I do for you?"
Scotty cleared his throat briefly before finding his voice again.
"Ye... are a crossroad demon?"
Again he got a laugh in response and the man moved slowly toward him.
"Yes, honey. I'm a crossroad demon. My name is Khan," he introduced himself and it amused him that the human in front of him kept backing away. He was afraid; the demon felt that clearly.
"But you don't answer a question with a question."
He raised his hand and grabbed his counterpart by the arm. Immediately Scotty stopped as if rooted to the spot. The power emanating from this demon was really incredibly intimidating and strong. Usually, he was not a coward after all!
"E-excuse me," he stammered, barely able to control his words, and Khan began to slowly move around him.
"So, what can I do for you?" he asked again, and Scotty swallowed the lump in his throat.
"I don't know if ye can grant me my wish?"
Khan was standing just behind him and now he smiled slyly, leaned over and whispered in his ear, "Honey, I can give you anything you want."
A shiver ran down the Scotsman's spine as he felt the cold breath.
My God... What was he doing here? He was talking to a demon and wanted to make a pact with it.
Maybe it had been a mistake to come here. But Khan had said that he could do anything.
"My... boyfriend... He is seriously ill. All I want is to find a cure and save him. I just want for the bacterium to disappear and for Leonard to be healed. He shall survive," Scotty summed up his wish and Khan chuckled again, finally coming to a stop in front of him.
Humans were really stupid sometimes.
Mr. Scott could have anything he wanted, but he gave up his wish for someone else. Love could be so strong. Such a powerful feeling that made people forget their selfishness. How Khan would have wished to feel it himself sometimes. But he had forgotten what it felt like.
And yet... the man in front of him triggered some feeling in him, touched his cold soul in a way no one else ever had. It was strange.
"If that is your wish, then I will grant it. But, you know the price, don't you?"
Scotty swallowed. Yes... yes, he knew the price, but it was worth it to him. For Leonard, he simply had to give everything. Even if it was the most valuable asset he owned.
"M-my soul."
Khan ran a hand over Scott's face and nodded.
"Very true, Montgomery. Your soul. In ten years I'll be at your doorstep to take it. So if you make a pact with me, you're mine. Are you sure that's what you want?"
Scotty nodded, not quite as firmly resolved as others had been, but he nodded.
"If that's the case... Then let's seal the deal, shall we?"
Again Khan smiled. The seal was his favorite part of making a pact.
He grabbed Scotty's arm and carved a deep cut into the human's arm and his own. Blood gushed from the wounds and Khan pressed them together.
"My blood for you. Your blood for me."
Slowly, he leaned in and kissed Scotty. The human didn't seem to want it, but that was how it usually was. Khan could understand. These humans had just sold their souls and then they were supposed to kiss a demon, too?
He, however, enjoyed it because he knew that he now had this human all to himself. He belonged to him from now on and no one could take him away.
When he was done, Scotty stared at him with wide eyes as if wondering if that had been it. Had he sold his soul to a demon so easily?
"Well then... take a backseat and let me do my job. See you in ten years."
With a wink and the typical smile, Khan disappeared, simply vanishing into thin air.
Scotty looked at the spot where the demon had been standing only a moment before. What had he done?

A common complaint I’ve seen about Star Trek is that there is a lack of regular female characters besides Uhura and sorta Chapel. Now, that can be attributed to 60s sexism, but TOS didn’t have an unlimited budget, so creating a female character would probably lead to the elimination of a male regular. Which is why I ask you…
Remember, the semifinals of my Star Trek bracket start tomorrow! See you there.

It’s time for Whumptober y’all! To anyone who hasn’t read about this year’s character I chose yet… It’s Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy! To be honest, I never thought I’d write a whole whump-month about him (mainly since I only feature him in Scotty stories XD) but I can do it 💪
Let’s get started!
This first story is based on my “You will be mine”-series. It’s an alternate version of the last oneshot.
Whumptober 2023
No. 1 “But now this room is spinning while I’m trying to just fill in all the gaps.” (swooning)
~
Dr. McCoy's gaze slid out the window and fell on the dark vehicle parked behind the small house. He frowned.
A black BMW.
He narrowed his eyes thoughtfully and examined the car. Why did it look so damn familiar to him?
It took a brief moment, but out of nowhere memories flashed through the doctor's mind.
The black BMW... had followed Scotty and him. When they had been in town, when they had visited the park... Of course, it could have been any black car, but now that McCoy saw that BMW, everything suddenly became clear to him.
The explanation for all the terrible things. The man who had kidnapped his husband... was standing right behind him.
It had been almost half a year now since he had come home from an emergency at work, only to find his house empty. Half a year he had had to spend without the man he loved so much. Half a year there had been no clues as to Scotty's whereabouts.
And now? Now, by chance, while jogging, he had run into the man he had never met in person back then.
Khan Singh, scientist and former interlocutor of his missing husband.
How had McCoy been so blind? How had he not noticed it earlier?
"Dr. McCoy?"
A cold shiver ran down the doctor's spine when he heard the deep voice behind him. Quickly he wheeled around and looked at the man who - sympathetic as he was - had invited him in for a cup of coffee.
"I asked if you want milk or sugar?"
Slowly, McCoy shook his head, forcing a smile to his lips. He just couldn't let on now!
"No, thank you. I always drink my coffee black," he replied, moving to one of the chairs around the kitchen table. Inconspicuously, he let his hand glide over his wristwatch.
"A good choice. Nothing like black coffee."
Mr. Singh joined him with a smile, setting one of the cups down in front of the doctor before taking a sip of his own coffee.
McCoy did the same. He had to be as inconspicuous as possible and stall for time. But almost as if by magic, his eyes wandered around the room.
Where? Where could that son of a bitch be hiding Scotty?
"So, tell me more about Scotty's disappearance. I read that it was a nighttime kidnapping?"
Right. Singh had offered McCoy that they could think again together about how Scotty's abduction had occurred. He had said that maybe together they could come up with a new lead. What a lying bastard!
"Y-yes... I... I came home from emergency surgery back then and... Scotty was gone. There was no sign of a break-in."
The look on his counterpart's face distorted in a peculiar way.
"Well... then it almost seems as if Scotty left voluntarily."
McCoy's grip on the cup's handle only tightened, and he tried his best not to clench his teeth.
"I hardly think so. As it happens, all the surveillance cameras were disabled that night. It was clearly a long-planned kidnapping."
And Singh knew that for a fact. After all, he had been the one to kidnap Scotty.
The black-haired man thoughtfully moved his head back and forth, taking another sip of coffee before answering.
"Or it was... a liberation strike. Maybe... the person in charge wanted to free Scotty from his dreary boring life to help him achieve greater things."
McCoy narrowed his eyes in irritation.
"What... what's that supposed to mean?"
A cool grin formed on Singh's lips and his blue eyes seemed to literally pierce through McCoy.
"Oh, come on, Doctor. We both know you know who I am. It was hard to miss, after all. You recognized my car."
Good. So then this would not just be a conversation, but possibly degenerate into the brawl it was supposed to be. Enough with the good face.
"You kidnapped him. Where is he? Where's Scotty?!"
Quickly, McCoy got to his feet. Perhaps a little too quickly, because he suddenly felt incredibly dizzy.
His counterpart simply remained sitting in place.
"Don't worry, doctor. He's safe and sound. He's in his own little paradise, free from pathetic inferior people like you."
Slowly Singh got to his feet and stepped around the table.
McCoy felt raging anger boiling up inside him. He would kill him! He would finish this guy, Oath or no Oath.
As fast as he could, he staggered over to the kitchen counter, where a knife block stood. Why the hell was he so dizzy?
He blinked a few times to see more clearly, but it didn't help.
And suddenly it became clear to him.
The coffee! That bastard had mixed something into the coffee!
McCoy reached for the knives, but he didn't get a hold of them. In a few seconds, he was lying on the cold floor, trying to get his bearings somehow.
"Are you all right, doctor? Would you like me to bring you a glass of water?"
Singh's sardonic voice seemed to come from everywhere.
McCoy shook his head, trying desperately to get back on his feet. He had to do something! He had to fight back somehow!
But whatever the man had given him seemed to work perfectly.
"You know, doctor, I knew you'd be jogging in these woods at some point. I... more or less provoked it. That pretty flyer in your mailbox..."
A... flyer? Right. McCoy had found said flyer advertising the lake and the forest surrounding it. That was the only reason he had come here, had changed his jogging route.
"I wanted you right here."
A hand grabbed McCoy's hair and jerked his head upward.
"Well... not right here in the kitchen. I'd rather have you next door in the cold storage room. That's where everything's set up, after all."
As much as the doctor tried to resist, Singh simply pulled him along with him to a nearby door.
Even though McCoy couldn't see anything clearly in the bright white room, he recognized the floor, which was covered with a tarp.
"Today is the last day Monty and I will spend in this beautiful cottage before I unfortunately have to take him abroad, so I figured he'd be happy to have his favorite dish."
Rudely, McCoy was knocked to the floor and he almost threw up. He tried to move, but with each passing second more strength drained from his muscles.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Singh reach for something shiny hanging on the wall.
A... hatchet!
"You know how much he loves his haggis, don't you? And since he loves you, too, for reasons I can't explain, I thought why not combine these two... preferences?"
McCoy's eyes widened in shock as Singh approached him, hatchet firmly in his right hand. He was going to kill him! He was going to slaughter him like a sheep!
Slowly, as best he could, the doctor crawled backward, away from the monster that had abducted his husband.
"N-no... Y-you..."
That bastard couldn't be serious!
"Personally, I prefer spare ribs. But you have enough of these too."
McCoy somehow managed to turn onto his stomach and crawl across the floor, but he didn't get very far. He screamed as loud as he could when he felt the blade of the axe hit his lower right leg and cut through it.
"Now, now... Where do you think you're going, doctor? Don't crawl away."
Singh's laughter reached his ears and he wanted nothing more than to just beat the guy up. But he had no strength.
"Be a good little sheep."
Another blow with the hatchet. This time in the thigh.
He would die. Singh would kill him!
But that was not his greatest fear.
Tears filled his eyes at the thought of Scotty. He should have saved him. He should have found him sooner!
"I'm... sorry, M-Monty."
As he lost consciousness and the world went black around him, he just hoped that his plan had worked.
-
The steady beeping that filled his ears was damn familiar to McCoy. He heard it day in and day out, after all. It was part of his workplace.
Slowly, his eyes fluttered open and he looked around.
He was indeed in the hospital. His heart sank at the thought of his last memories.
Scotty's captor who had tried to slaughter him. Unbearable pain in his leg.
"Mo ghràdh!"
That voice. McCoy's head wheeled around and he couldn't believe who he saw next to his bed.
Scotty. It really was his husband! Carefully, the doctor lifted his hand and put it on the Scotsman's cheek.
"M-Monty..."
Seeing the familiar face after so long was almost surreal. But... it was also beautiful.
For a long time, the two men just looked deeply into each other's eyes. They could hardly believe that they were reunited.
"That was a pretty close call, Dr. McCoy."
McCoy's gaze wandered to the door as he heard a familiar voice and discovered that Officers Sulu and Uhura were also present.
With a faint smile, the doctor held up his wrist with the watch.
"The watch with the emergency button was really a good idea," he muttered. Fortunately, Lt. Sulu had suggested the idea to him some time ago.
"Ye... ye came. Ye saved me."
Scotty's whimper made McCoy's head travel back to his husband and he gently stroked his cheek.
"Of course. Anything for you, leannan."
Tears streamed down Scotty's cheeks.
"I'm so sorry that he hurt ye. That he... tried to kill ye."
But McCoy just shook his head.
"It's all right, Monty. Knowing you're by my side again makes me forget all the pain."
The wounds, physical and psychological, would heal. As long as Scotty was back with him, all was well.
