i dont care abt mordred like at all.. like he became a knight or whatever but i dont believw in any of his loyalty or motivation considering when we meet him again hes like. working for morgana + the saxons and also helping transport prisoners or whatever. which is bad already but then he just turned on morgana for arthur for no reason. and then turned on arthur for morgana after the whole kara situation (yknow when she tried to kill the man he swore fealty to. and he sided with her?? who he hadnt seen in however many years). flip flopping. wishy washy. man was not ever trustworthy alright

I think the two most obvious foils for Ludinus Da'leth across all of Critical Role are Essek and Keyleth, which is both fascinating given how different those two characters are from each other (Essek being a foil in terms of isolation, single-mindedness, harm in the name of ambition, knowledge, and other such wizard themes; Keyleth being a foil in terms of people who have lost something at a young age to the gods and bear resentment for it, political leadership, belief that the world belongs to mortalkind, and longevity) but also it's extremely funny that they both are the partners of Liam's character.

There's something so tragically poetic and yet justly deserved about the way Kant has to get Bison wasted and drugged and emotionally manipulate him using Kant's friend and his own baby brother in all his attempts to get behind the wall Bison has between them...
...while Style gets to enjoy Fadel intentionally and purposefully drinking himself careless and honest and open, and watch as Fadel himself dismantles as much of that very same wall in his desire to let Style in.
Because Style, at least, knew very little up until the point of becoming boyfriends with Fadel, so he has the confidence of succeeding on the effectiveness of his own genuine courtship (as insane as it was), while the very insight that gives Kant an edge in all his dealings with Bison also ensures that he never had the assurance of safety (particularly with Bison's more volatile and primal instincts vs Fadel's preference towards reason and logic) that gave Style the ability to chip at Fadel's walls to begin with.

Now, I haven't actually listened to all that many audio drama podcasts in comparison to other podcast fans, but I really genuinely honest-to-god believe that as audio drama expands as a medium and if fiction podcasting gains mainstream attention that The Silt Verses will be held up as a groundbreaking example of what audio drama can be and as a show that pushed and expanded the boundaries of the medium. Even the roughness of the audio (mainly in season 1 but there are some messy bits throughout the show) I think is an indication of the show's sheer ambition and creative vision, running into the limitations and either pulling back in creative ways or breaking those boundaries. Like imo it's truly unmatched in audio drama productions right now. I've never heard anything like it before. The fandom is not the biggest compared to the really famous podcasts (though it is sizeable and growing!), but I hope that one day TSV gets the acclaim it deserves because it is really, really that good

Sigh.. ..
Thinking More about Mae, and I guess she isn't necessarily entirely in the wrong, because she Loves her family, and percieves the Jedi as Unnecessarily ripping her family apart, and she doesn't want for anything more than staying with her family, and staying with Osha, and she can't fathom wanting anything more or different than being a witch, it's all she's ever really desired from life.... So maybe like. To her child mind, it wasn't an overreaction to want to set a fire, to trap and kill Osha, in case Osha going away = Mae also going away
Because Mae probably perceives like..... Everything they do, is done together. If Osha left, it would only be natural that Mae is forced to leave too. It's this and... In her twisty way, she still loves Osha. She's just also extremely pissed, and willing to take the most extreme action to prevent Osha from leaving her and the Coven behind.

I am never not thinking about Renji giving people rides on Hihiou Zabimaru, but somehow I forgot about the time Rukia used a Hakuren to launch Kon into the air during the kemari episode.

Reader, she was not sorry.

Unfortunately he started to go out of bounds, so Tessai felt it necessary to shoot him down with a Bakudou #99, p2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I cannot emphasize enough that this was for a game of kemari to resolve some vague beef Rurichiyo and Kenryuu were having, there were literally no stakes whatsoever to everyone else, who just showed up and chose violence.

Lingthusiasm Episode 91: Scoping out the scope of scope
When you order a kebab and they ask you if you want everything on it, you might say yes. But you'd probably still be surprised if it came with say, chocolate, let alone a bicycle...even though chocolate and bicycles are technically part of "everything". That's because words like "everything" and "all" really mean something more like "everything typical in this situation". Or in linguistic terms, we say that their scope is ambiguous without context.
In this episode, your hosts Lauren Gawne and Gretchen McCulloch get enthusiastic about how we can think about ambiguity of meaning in terms of scope. We talk about how humour often relies on scope ambiguity, such as a cake with "Happy Birthday in red text" written on it (quotation scope ambiguity) and the viral bench plaque "In Memory of Nicole Campbell, who never saw a dog and didn't smile" (negation scope ambiguity). We also talk about how linguists collect fun examples of ambiguity going about their everyday lives, how gesture and intonation allow us to disambiguate most of the time, and using several scopes in one sentence for double plus ambiguity fun.

Announcements:
In this month’s bonus episode we get enthusiastic about the forms that our thoughts take inside our heads! We talk about an academic paper from 2008 called "The phenomena of inner experience", and how their results differ from the 2023 Lingthusiasm listener survey questions on your mental pictures and inner voices. We also talk about more unnerving methodologies, like temporarily paralyzing people and then scanning their brains to see if the inner voice sections still light up (they do!).
Join us on Patreon now to get access to this and 80+ other bonus episodes. You’ll also get access to the Lingthusiasm Discord server where you can chat with other language nerds. Also: Join at the Ling-phabet tier and you'll get an exclusive “Lingthusiast – a person who’s enthusiastic about linguistics,” sticker! You can stick it on your laptop or your water bottle to encourage people to talk about linguistics with you. Members at the Ling-phabet tier also get their very own, hand-selected character of the International Phonetic Alphabet – or if you love another symbol from somewhere in Unicode, you can request that instead – and we put that with your name or username on our supporter Wall of Fame! Check out our Supporter Wall of Fame here, and become a Ling-phabet patron here!
