Monty's Redemption
I realized why I want Monty to return for season 2 (if we get it). Obviously, love Joshua Colley; fantastic actor that I actually recognized from a Broadway miscast performance from way back in 2016. He played Eliza along with two other little boys and performed The Schuyler Sisters. Tangent: For those who did not already know this, you should absolutely watch it here. He was so good that I remembered him constantly whenever Hamilton was brought up. It happened enough that I went and followed him a few years later. It was a crazy while watching him, cause he felt familiar, but I didn't why, then I saw his name in the credits, and I was like, "Isn't that the name of the kid who played Eliza in that miscast? I'm pretty sure that's his name, let me check." Boom! It was him, and I immediately rewatched the miscast, and it was so crazy because his face has not changed at all! Like, obviously it's matured, but it's the same fucking face. Some people look completely different when they grow up, and some people literally look the same. (I'm one of these people. My face has not changed since I was a fucking toddler. Couple that with my short height and you have a childhood of bullying then an early adulthood of being mistaken for a child. RIP 🥲) Joshua's face is literally the same, it was so crazy lmfao
But other than loving the actor, I really want Monty to come back! I think it would be adorable if he turned back into a human, and joined the squad. He and Edwin would be an adorable QPR, and Edwin could teach him about being a human, since he probably only knows the bare minimum Esther told him so he could be in disguise. I actually wrote an essay about this a little while ago that I might rewrite.
But it is more than just wanting him back for the cuteness and fun of having him around. My urge for him to return feels too strong, too pinpointed, and I couldn't figure out why for a while.
Surprise, surprise! I figured it out!
It has to do with redemption! Charles literally says it when he pushes the backpack to him when he couldn't reach it.
Here's the thing, obviously I'd like him to come back to get a full redemption arc, but I figured out why I'm so set on him getting one. It's specifically Edwin.
There's something Edwin says about Monty that rubs me the wrong way. It's during the conversation he has with Niko on the roof. He says, "He was a good liar, for a crow." It always made my skin prickle, just a little bit.
It's because calling Monty a "liar" feels like an unfair label. Did he lie? Yes, absolutely. But he also didn't.
Everything Monty tells Edwin behind the butcher shop is true. The only lie is the reason he wasn't free to make his own decisions before. It wasn't a coma, but he was still trapped and "in the dark" metaphorically speaking. Even what he says about feeling braver is true.
He's essentially Esther's property; she can do with him what she likes. She quite literally rips him apart and puts him back together, making him a human against his will. Monty says, "I never asked to be human. With all these... feelings."
She forces a massive change in his entire being, mind, and life. Imagine how jarring it would be to suddenly not have wings that you were born with? To have no tail, beak, or claws? To be something completely other than you?
It was simpler for Monty when he was a crow. He was probably scared all the time, and just did as he was told. But once he becomes human, if you pay attention, you can see immediately that Monty does not actually like Esther that much, nor enjoys having to help her. He speaks his mind, and backtalks her, a couple times.
"That little slither bug is the size of a bus. It could afford to miss a few meals." - Ep05 When he says this, he says it with actual disdain in his voice. He's not just being sarcastic about it. Monty's voice and expression when he says it could miss meals looks like he genuinely doesn't like it.
"Well, I mean, you stood bleeding on the shore so Lilith would come out of the ocean and grant you eternal life. She never said you had to stay young and beautiful." - Ep05 Given how much she believes Lilith tricked her, and how much she cares about being young and beautiful, this was an incredibly ballsy thing for Monty to say.
"You didn't tell me that mushroom thing was gonna completely eradicate them. Or how gruesome it would be. Or how to-" - Ep06 Monty is genuinely distraught over this, and saying she didn't tell him implies his actions would have been different if he'd known. How so? We'll never know, but it's possible he would've tried to sabotage or refuse to help her. "Tried" being a key word here because it's clear that she had little-to-no care for Monty at all. He obeys her, but gets revealed by the Cat King, and she rips him up for it. There's really no way he could've survived if he'd tried to refuse/stop her.
Speaking of genuine feelings, Monty did actually like them. Yes, "them" plural. He says, "-gonna completely eradicate them." Monty could've said "him", referring to Edwin since he's the one he's in love with, but he doesn't. He's upset about both of them being destroyed. Earlier when Esther gives him the napkin of fungus, he asks her what she's going to do with Crystal. If Edwin was the only one he cared about, he wouldn't have bothered to ask.
He's not supposed to care at all! If he was still a crow, he couldn't have asked. He'd just go do it. He's her familiar; he pretty much has to. Based on Monty's emotional responses, and the fact that he helps Charles at the end, it seems like he has free will. And you can say, "Why didn't he refuse sooner if he really cared?" and at the end of the day, that doesn't matter. She would have killed him regardless of what point in her plot he betrayed her. He doesn't want to die! That's a very reasonable response to the situation.
The affection Monty has for Edwin is completely real, and develops quickly. After their first meeting, they're swapping books, and Monty seems to have actually read it. Saying it was beautiful is a generic compliment, but how would he know it was funny?
He was genuinely looking forward to seeing Edwin, and disappointed that the plans were canceled.
Esther even says, "Monty, ew. You're not besotted with that little brat, are you?" Funny how he actually never responds to that question here, but immediately shuts the notion down after Edwin rejects him.
And it's when Edwin tells him sincerely that he is his friend that Monty makes the decision to try and get him out of the forest.
I said in my other essay and earlier in this one that betraying Esther is a death sentence. There's no way she wouldn't find out if he helped them escape, but he was going to try anyway.
Monty may have lied about his identity as Esther's crow, but he didn't lie about the rest of who he is. That is why Edwin referring to him as a "liar", plain and simple, feels wrong. Monty deserves the chance to talk to Edwin, to actually explain himself, not under the threat of the Forest Elemental destroying Edwin, and without the Cat King's jeering. Honestly, I think he only ran because of the way Edwin called him a crow as though that on its own was disgusting or insulting rather than the real problem which is him being Esther's crow. I don't think Edwin would've actually cared about Monty originally being a crow, especially given the fact that the Cat King literally switches back and forth between human and cat. He's a human now (in that moment).
The way Edwin calls him a "liar" makes me feel like he didn't believe Monty when he said that he wasn't pretending, that it started off as that, but that it had changed into real feelings for him. It feels wrong for Edwin not to know/acknowledge that, especially if Charles tells him about the help he provided against Esther.
That it is what I want most if Monty is brought back.

I used to do this thing where I would take a list of characters that I liked (such as Star Wars characters) and then I would take a list of roles from a musical. Then I would get a random generator and use that generator to randomly select the characters I had chosen and cast them as random roles in the musical. As if they were being forced to play those characters and I had no control over who they were cast as.
Things could get pretty hilarious. you could have something like Han gets cast as the spouse of Vader and C3PO gets cast as their child.
So I thought I had never really done it with the sequels characters so I decided why not? I did it With Hamilton because that’s a musical most people know but I could do other ones in the future. It turned out even funnier then I could possibly have imagined.
Now without further ado
HAMILTON BUT PURE CHAOS
Our Star of the show is none other the Snoke
And who is his rival that will eventually best him in a duel sending him to his death?
Princess Leia Organa! And honesty? Good for her. (All the extras are storm troopers)
Now who is the famous, Faboulous, Marquis De Lafayette…. it’s Pryde… ugh
Suddenly Lafayette is no longer cool
Now who are Snoke and Pryde’s Besties? Phasma is now Laurence (so she dies 😔) and Kylo is Mulligan, honestly I can see him as mulligan
So this friend group is just the first order? Good to know
Now who is the responsible, put together, and not reckless at all, general to lead them all?
It’s Han Solo playing George Washington! So in character right? Now he’s Snoke’s mentor and president of the United States… interesting
But there’s always a loyalist so who gets to be my beloved Samuel Seabury?
Armitage Hux! I was actually very happy with this paring I literally a wrote a parody to farmer refuted from Hux’s POV a few weeks ago, it’s just so funny
Now who is the King that Hux is so graciously supporting, the antagonist of the whole story? Well it’s none other then Poe Dameron, everyone’s favorite imperialist
And of course Snoke still needs more enemies, so who is the incompetent general that sucks so bad he gets left behind?
Charles Lee is now Luke Skywalker! “I’m a general WEEEEEE” But I mean hey man not everyone can say they got shot by Phasma in a duel.
and of course we can’t forget Snoke’s big act 2 rival Thomas Jefferson who is being played by none other then C3PO!
and Jefferson is nothing without his best friend James Madison played by Dopheld Mitaka!
Honestly this one is a pretty good casting
Now here’s where it gets interesting… if it hasn’t already…
The Schuyler Sisters
Yeah you saw that right, forget Angelica Eliza and Peggy, Now we have Palpatine Rey and Finn! So that not only makes them sisters but it also means that Snoke and Rey are married and have children which is a terrifying thought
And not only that but it also means that Snoke and Palpatine were in love but Palpatine let him marry his sister instead but they still continue their emotional affair through the letters they send to eachother
Aren’t snoke and Palpatine basically the same person technically???? I guess they have a type
but of course, we can’t forget the Schuyler sisters wonderful father Philip, oops sorry I meant Thanisson
so yes somehow Thanisson is the father of Palpatine Rey and Finn. Makes sense? No? Perfect, moving on
Speaking of Philip, Snoke and Rey’s Aforementioned child of the same name, is now being played by Rose Tico
Which means, as you can see in this photo here, she dies in her duel with George Eacker. But who might you ask is George Eacker?
It’s BB-8 of course!
Because BB-8 decided to shit talk snoke he got in a duel with Rose, and won. BB-8 kills rose.
Now there’s something missing, we all know the story, Snoke can’t stay faithful to his wife. so who is the poor soul that has to play Mariah Reynolds? A woman being used by her husband to extort snoke by having her keep up an affair with him?
It’s Cardinal, I’m so sorry. He isn’t prepared for this 😭 this image is so cursed. Funny enough though Maria is known for wearing red.
Anyway who is Cardinal’s manipulative husband who is blackmailing snoke?
It’s Brendol Hux, James Reynolds is Brendol Hux. I’m so sorry Cardinal but this is perfect casting. Truly and ass hole in every universe
and of course who is the doctor that is just trying to keep shit together through this whole play? BEHOLD THE MIGHTY GONK!
(I couldn’t find any pictures on Google of the doctor)
If you got this far, I hope you enjoyed it and are severely disturbed!!! Let me know if you’re interested in me doing more.

Lin-Manuel Miranda: How His Work Mirrors Where We Are as a Society (and Where He's Been as an Artist)
So, Lin-Manuel Miranda . The man hardly needs an introduction at this point—he’s the face of musical theater for so many people, especially outside of typical Broadway circles. His work, from In the Heights to Hamilton to The Warriors, has this uncanny ability to reflect the times we live in, both as a society and, often, as a deeply personal commentary on his own evolution as an artist. And like clockwork, his big releases have often dropped right before critical U.S. elections—almost as if he’s intentionally or unintentionally influencing the conversation ( Hamilton technically came out an entire year before the 2016 election, can you get the idea)
To really get into this, let’s start at the beginning with In the Heights. It wasn’t just another musical—it was Miranda’s response to the toxic cultural and political climate of the early 2000s, a time when the Bush administration and mainstream media were all too comfortable promoting xenophobic narratives about Latinx communities. Latinos were often portrayed as lazy or as criminals—a threat to the so-called “real” America.
In the Heights tore down that facade by giving us Washington Heights: a vibrant community where people were simply living, dreaming, and struggling with universal, relatable problems—chiefly, the looming threat of gentrification by the very people who claimed to be disgusted by them. Miranda was saying, “Here we are, unapologetically existing, and our stories deserve to be seen.” It was a powerful counter to the era’s narratives and marked the beginning of his rise as a “Broadway guy.”
Then came Hamilton, and it changed the game. The musical theater scene in the 2010s was still mostly white, with producers often playing it safe to avoid “rocking the boat.” Miranda blew that boat right out of the water, putting a majority POC cast in colonial garb and re-imagining the founding fathers through hip-hop and R&B. Suddenly, the nation’s founders were embodied by people who looked like the folks kept on the sidelines of Broadway. Hamilton didn’t just break down doors—it crushed them, and LMM took his cast with him into the limelight. People were forced to acknowledge the contributions of POC not only to theater but to the founding of the country itself.
But as Miranda’s fame exploded, so did the critiques. On platforms like Tumblr and Twitter, people started questioning aspects of Hamilton, pointing out the musical’s liberal optimism and the sometimes one-dimensional portrayal of its female characters. Miranda’s status as a model minority was both a blessing and a curse—he was the guy, but he was the guy, always expected to carry everyone’s expectations of diversity and inclusivity. Even in marginalized spaces, there was some annoyance that he was often the first (and only) one called on for high-profile projects when so many other talents from his community remained overlooked.
Fast forward to The Warriors, a concept album that dropped right before the critical 2024 election, and we see a very different Miranda. This time, he partnered with the leftist creator Eisa Davis, and together, they crafted something that feels much more raw and socially aware.
One of the biggest differences between Hamilton and The Warriors is in how they handle female representation. The critiques about Hamilton’s female characters—especially the sidelining of complex women like the Schuyler sisters—seem to have influenced The Warriors, which features an entirely female cast with a range of personalities, appearances, and backgrounds. Each character is given the space to be fully realized and nuanced. There’s Cleon, a large, fierce woman who’s both the matriarch and leader of the Warriors. She’s tough yet compassionate, the glue holding this group of wildly different women together. Then there’s Swan, Cleon’s co-leader, who’s aloof and stoic on the outside but deeply vulnerable and loyal beneath her hardened shell.
Two especially interesting characters are Cowgirl and Ajax. Cowgirl is easygoing, unabashedly lustful, and fully herself. Her sexuality isn’t seen as a flaw; it’s just part of who she is. Ajax, on the other hand, is cantankerous and boasts a nonconformist, aggressive edge that would typically cast her as the “antagonist” or rival. But here, she’s just allowed to exist—her roughness doesn’t make her less part of the family; in fact, it makes her stronger.
And then there’s Mercy, who’s had to sleep around to survive and is initially met with hesitation by the Warriors. But here’s the kicker: it’s not about slut-shaming. They’re wary because Mercy is an outsider, not because of what she’s done to survive. Mercy becomes a reversal of Hamilton’s Maria Reynolds, with a more compassionate look at the complexity of ordeals that women have to endure to survive.
The evolution of Miranda’s work goes deeper, though. Where Hamilton had a clear enemy in the figure of King George (and the absurdity of colonialism as a backdrop), The Warriors confronts something grittier and closer to home. The villains are more sinister, more reflective of today’s issues. We have Luther, a dangerously angry man who weaponizes his societal privilege to sow chaos—a character who hits close to home in 2024’s social climate. Then there’s the police, depicted as ruthless enforcers of an oppressive state, mercilessly cracking down on anyone they perceive as a threat. Finally, the American government itself is hinted at as the ultimate, faceless villain—represented by the boroughs and conditions that force these women into a life of struggle and resistance.
It’s also impossible to ignore Eisa Davis’s impact here. Her influence helped push Miranda into a more conscious, radical space, and it’s clear in every beat of The Warriors. This isn’t just a musical; it’s a raw, unfiltered reflection of an America where, for many, the dream has shattered. The system has failed the Warriors, and they know it. Unlike in Hamilton, there’s no bright-eyed optimism or “let’s make it work” mentality. This is survival in a system that’s fundamentally broken.
It’s funny, though. The Warriors was written years ago, yet it feels like it was tailor-made for 2024. It’s proof that, yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks—and that even the most famous names can still evolve with the times if they’re willing to listen, to change, to get uncomfortable.
Maybe that’s the lesson here. It’s easy to pigeonhole Miranda as the Latinx, non-white face of Broadway and expect him to always cater to everyone’s expectations. But Miranda’s story shows us that growth happens when artists are allowed to wrestle with their critiques, collaborate with new voices, and dive deeper into the messiness of reality. And maybe that’s something we can all take away—to challenge ourselves, to learn, and to evolve with the times.

Descendants singing songs from other musicals
So with the ithica saga having just wrapped up- I can now show you all my unhealthy obsession with forcing songs on characters :3 Epic and other musicals alike
Hold them down: This song just... SCREAMS Gaston to me Just imagine a version of the odyssey with Belle in Penelope's place
Would you fall in love with me again: Hook x Morgie.... Listen... listen LISTEN- When Morgie arrived on the island after James was sent there (see my lore for them-) they sing that song to each other AND YES I KNOW IT WASN'T TWENTY YEARS SINCE THEY LAST SAW EACH OTHER BUT LET ME HAVE THIS
The challenge: Uma and/or Harry.... and it's about Gil because it's canon he's good with bows and arrows
Monster: Imagine Ben having an existential crisis after seeing how fucked up the island is
Warrior of the mind: A stupid hc I have of Hades and Morgie being besties because of how they interacted in the movie... also how is a greek god on school? I'll make a post about my hc about that later
Open arms: Gil singing this to Uma and Harry... need I say more?
Okay that's six songs from epic... time to get a little wicked
Popular: Evie getting Mal ready for her date with Ben
No one mourns the wicked: So imagine Morgie after the island was formed, not yet having snuck on there and seeing all of Auradon celebrating the death/defeat of most of his friends (especially James and Hades)... and we get a flashback to Morgie's life
What is this feeling: Saw a tiktok of this and I agree so hard that this could be between Uma and Mal
Other songs that I have imagined characters singing
Revenge party (mean girls): This screams sea three to me
Sexy (mean girls): Screams Evie so much
Dead girl walking (heathers): Mal would do this to Ben... and I don't think he would mind
The schuyler sisters (hamilton): Already talked about this- Harry and his sisters singing this

Hamilton songs as the Silmarillion prt 1
Who lives, Who dies, Who tells your story: Elrond Peredhel. Thinking mainly about all the kids he fosters in Elros’ line. But also the idea of him preserving the histories and memory of the Feanorians alongside the rest of his family.
Quiet Uptown: Either kidnap fam, with everyone’s assorted trauma (I think maybe Mae and Mags thinking about their brothers) or Feanor and Nerdanel reuniting after everything
Say no to this: Silvergifting. Celebrimbor and Annatar. Need I say more?
Burn: Nerdanel obviously. I’ve heard that take before and honestly it seems written for her. But I’m also going to add the possibility of Curufinrod. Some parts more than others I feel would also fit either point of view for that one. I lean a little more towards Curvo though. Maybe some kind of jealousy towards Beor and Barahir?
Non stop: Maedhros after Angband. All the diplomacy over letters, probably from his sick bed. The song just describes him so well. Also Elros.
Helpless: Luthien and Beren fits very well. But also Halenthir if we’re getting creative. Especially the bits about meddling siblings.
Satisfied: Russingon. If we’re going with Fingon having a wife. Forbidden love. It just makes me emotional. From Maedhros point of view.
Room where it happens: Nargothrond. Mainly Curufin and Celegorm and Orodreth. Feat Finrod and Beren.
Alexander Hamilton: Feanor. Just Feanor.
Schuyler Sisters: The three Cs. Just imagine it. Also Idril, Aredhel and Galadriel works. But seriously Celegorm, Caranthir - and Curufin. It would be incredible.
Farmer Refuted: Feanor harassing Eonwe while being backed up by Celegorm and Curufin. So funny.
You’ll be back: Thingol talking to literally anyone. He just has that entitled vibe. Also maybe Sauron to Maedhros.
Right Hand Man: Elrond and Gil Galad when they meet during the War of Wrath.

Any tips on how to write a historical fiction? Like working out the historical placement, economy and the political state of the country, the situation of royalty etc. Love your blog!
Historical Fiction vs Other Historical Subgenres
I wonder if you're meaning to ask about writing "historical fantasy" or "alternate history" rather than historical fiction. Here's why...
Historical fiction is set in a real place, in a real, recognizable time in our history. For example, Melissa de la Cruz's Alex & Eliza follows the lives and marriage of Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler, real U.S. historical figures who were featured in the recently popular musical, Hamilton. If you want to write historical fiction, fleshing out your setting's economy, political state, situation of royalty, etc. is a matter of researching your setting in that particular time. My post Researching an Historical Topic has some pointers that should help with that kind of research.
Historical fantasy can be one of two things: typically, historical fantasy refers to stories set in a real place and time in our history, but with the incorporation of fantastical elements, such as in Marie Lu's The Kingdom of Back which is set in 18th-century Europe and follows Mozart's older sister, who gets involved with a stranger from a magical realm who promises to make her musical dreams come true. Historical fantasy can also be set in a fictional place that heavily resembles a real historical time and place and incorporates magic, but since the emphasis is as much on the historical feel of the story as on the fantastical elements, it's historical fantasy rather than just fantasy. Here, too, fleshing out your setting will come down to doing research, then making your own decisions about how to plausibly differentiate your imaginary setting. You may find it easier to do this after you've fleshed out your plot and understand the needs of your story.
Alternate history imagines a historical place and time in our world but with a major difference, like what if the Titanic sailed through a time portal into 1970s New York. Or, what life in 1920s Los Angeles would have been like if the U.S. had lost the Revolutionary War and the king and queen had come to visit some of their American Dukes and Duchesses. Fleshing out an alternate history setting will require research of the real time and location as well as some educated brainstorming about how things would be different.
Fantasy stories are sometimes set in settings or worlds loosely or somewhat heavily based on our own. In Leigh Bardugo's Grishaverse, Ravka is loosely based on early 1800s Russia, and in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, Westeros is loosely based on early-medieval Britain. However, because the emphasis is more on the fantastical elements than the historical similarities, these stories are straight up fantasy rather than historical fantasy. Much as with the other examples, here fleshing out your setting requires research of your inspiration setting as well as brainstorming to determine what you want to change.
Let me know if you have questions about whichever specific one you want to write!

I have question, if u could have make a non-canon friendships in Hamilton what friendships would it be? Like: Peggy and Maria
gasp omg- ok
this is completely based on musical fandom and modern au fanfics but-
Laurens & Eliza- I want them to have tea time and talk about birds and art and politics and life and Alexander and everything because I am totally normal about this duo
Lafayette & Jefferson- Idk but hear me out, Daveed’s personality in both performances on stage would form a sassy , French/Southern power duo
Hercules & Peggy- Yes, this is based off of the scene where Mulligan was the best flower girl ™️, no I don’t apologize. Tho, I see their relationship as more of a sibling kind of bond
James Madison & Eliza- just platonic book club buddies, idk why. I like to think they were both eyeing Alexander in concern when he was writing the other 51 lol
Burr/Theodosia & Eliza- same kind of thing as above but less professional?? does that make sense? I imagine Eliza having tea with Theodosia and then gradually becoming friends with Burr over time, (before the duel ofc)
Jefferson & Angelica- This one was true in real life! Angelica and Jefferson were actually friends, contrary to the depiction in ‘The Schuyler Sisters’. Jefferson was also the person who introduced Angelica to Maria Cosway, Angelica’s lesbian lover 💛 (look it up, it’s true!)
Mulligan & Madison- Hercules drinks and is absolutlely wasted at parties while James drags his drunk ass home. I’m a sucker for unlikely friendships and it’s literally giving extrovert x introvert (platonic)
Laurens & Angelica- Not only just because they both loved Hamilton, but because they both have basically the same views and fiery personalities
Laurens & Hercules Mulligan - Laurens needs a father figure in the musical, need I say more. Mulligan would probably be trying to stop Laurens from jumping on tables or starting random duels/ bar fights 24/7 while Lafayette eggs him on
that’s all for now lol, I could totally see all of these working in modern aus!! uh yea, hope my excited rambles weren’t too much :D

for your imagination because I looked at your drawing of angelica in a dress with live diane reaction and it hit me over the head:
Diane with a bouquet of flowers sweeping into a room singing "angelica!" Like that one riff in Schuyler Sisters and then immediately stopping dead in her tracks when she sees angelica 👍
All dressed up for Date Night <33

Notes on Hamilton International Tour (Manila, Nov 9, 2023 evening)
Act 1
- This Burr is more proud than jealous during his introductions
- Same Angelica!
- Angelica pushes Burr when he tries to flirt during Schuyler Sisters
- This Washington’s voice is so deep and powerful, even more so than the last one I watched. His voice type makes me think he could be Hades when Hadestown comes here
- The Hamilton seems to be heavily inspired by Lin’s vocal style, and it actually works out well!
- I love Eliza’s voice so much, she’s always so ethereal. How do I marry a voice
- The King’s songs for Act 1 have such an angry feel to them, and yes the “I’m so blue” gag will always be funny.
- I will always repeat this in every notes but the lighting is just so *chefs kiss*
- This Lafayette had so much fun doing Guns and Ships
Act 2
- The actor as Jefferson was so good! Loved the cockiness
- Philip was so adorable as always, his voice was perfect
- Jefferson’s energy at both Cabinet Battles was amazing
- Burr is changing tone, the tone slowly shifts to feeling betrayed
- Washington’s voice definitely dominates the same way Angelica does, They’re such beautiful voices.
- WCN aka King George makes fun of John Adams the whole song
- Jefferson sounded AGHAST at “that was my wife you decided to—- WHAT?!”
- There were gasps when Philip dies
- Its Quiet Uptown never fails to make me cry, especially when the “Forgiveness…can you imagine?” part comes in.
- Burr was HURT and angry at Y.O.S, like he’s just Pissed Off
- At the end of TWWWE, Burr sounded rather regretful of what he did.
Overall, was a great second trip to the Room Where It Happens, and super worth it. I was in the back most possible row, at the edge of the theatre but the view was still great, no obstructions save for not seeing much of one side of the set’s terrace.
Side note: I finally got to stagedoor and I met Rachelle Ann Go, as well as the other cast members!

Agares: You know if cats slept for an entire day, people will find them adorable and cute. But if I do it "I have mental health issues" and "I need help"? Seems quite unfair.
Kerori: Agares Picero. You slept for three straight days with no eating, skipping three days of school, not even communicating with us. You gave Gaap a heart attack-

Kerori: Imagine saying you're not depressed but your favourite song is "Look who's inside again."
Agares: Is this because I didn't follow your devi-account yet? I'm sorry that I don't like to follow akudols that I don't like.

musicals i think would be very entertaining if all the parts were played by zach and jess:
• Beetlejuice -this is just because i think the world would benefit from jess playing characters originally played by catherine o'hara, althought zach could play all the characters himself and i'd be totally cool with that too
• Hamilton - zach and jess like rapping and random historical things and i desperately need zach as one of the schuyler sisters. realistically peggy but he'd make a fantastic eliza. i dunno who would play hamilton but i'm imagining jess as both eliza and hamilton. that means she'd get married to herself but that's fine i think. also zach would KILL it as king george. good god that man is incredible at playing extremely unhinged british men
• cats - this makes sense to me, the whole musical is a complete fever dream and that is very on brand for them
• heathers - zach as all the heathers and jess as j.d. thats it, that's the thought. zach's version of candy store would be incredible and by incredible i mean camp as fuck
these are basic choices but i'm really tired. if you have additions please reblog im curious what else you'd watch zach and jess play all the roles in

Hamilton Manila 2023!
As a musical theatre girlie who lives far away from the capital city, it's a bit hard to catch artists and musicals when they tour in my country. It can also be quite expensive since I have to pay for my flight and book Airbnbs. But when Lin-Manuel Miranda announced that Hamilton would have its Asian premiere in the Philippines early this year, I promised myself I would not throw away my shot.
I first discovered this musical in the summer of 2016, probably a month before it garnered big awards — including Best Musical! — at the Tonys. Having only heard of Breathe from LMM's other show, In The Heights, back then, I was surprised to hear rap and hip-hop in a Broadway musical. Nevertheless, I was hooked! Every song was catchy, and the lyrics were smart and informative. Satisfied and Helpless became my favorite songs, with It's Quiet Uptown making me cry whenever I hear the four words: "Forgiveness, can you imagine?"
After watching The Phantom of the Opera back in March 2019, I was so excited to go back to Solaire and watch another musical. This time, I was able to enjoy my second theatre experience with my college friends. It seems very fitting that I get to share this moment with them. Back in college, we used to sing songs from Hamilton during breaks and enact the dance from The Schuyler Sisters. We even made a parody of the song Alexander Hamilton when making a presentation about Confucius for our Asian Civilization class!
While Solaire didn't have many different backdrops for photo ops for Hamilton like they did for POTO, my friends and I were still able to take cute pictures!
As a partnership with UnionBank, they also offer free holographic souvenir cards for the first 140 people (150 on the weekends, iirc), so coming to the theatre four hours earlier is definitely worth it! Here's my card with my friends:
My friends and I also enjoyed complimentary drinks from Solaire since it was our first time signing up for Solaire Rewards. Don't throw away your shot for free drinks!
Okay, now for the show itself! Although most of my friends were hoping to watch the show in the orchestra seats, we ended up on the balcony. After a while, I realized that Hamilton is certainly best viewed on the balcony since we're able to see the rotating stage more clearly, as well as the incredible choreography and lighting design.
Here's the main cast we saw on October 31:
Like most Filipinos, I was hoping to see Rachelle Ann Go as Eliza. "Pinoy Pride" is something of a cheesy inside joke in our country, but hell, I'm so happy to see Rachelle thriving in West End productions, from Les Misérables to Hamilton. Seeing her portray Eliza live was one for the books. She was playful and giddy in Helpless, but she completely broke everyone's heart during Burn. And not to mention, her voice! Her singing highlights include Burn and the last part of Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story. She also shared wonderful chemistry with Callan Purcell, who played Hamilton in this production.
I was so looking forward to seeing Jason Arrow as Hamilton, but I still liked Callan's performance, even if his interpretation was completely different from other Hamiltons I've seen in slime tutorials. I especially liked him the best in Act 1. His "mature" Hamilton may not be that convincing at times in Act 2, but his energy was so infectious as the "ambitious" young Hamilton in the first half.
Another surprise was Kirrah Amosa's Angelica. I've read some comments in the Pinoy Hamilton FB group about her "lacking" portrayal of Angelica, but you know what? I thought she was great! Yes, she's giving more of an "empathetic Eliza" energy instead of the "fierce Angelica" we usually see, but that's what made her performance of Satisfied even more impactful to me. As for the third Schuyler sister, Peggy/Maria Reynolds, Elandrah Eramiha has a honey-like voice, which she completely showed off during Say No To This.
As a Burr apologist, I'm torn with Winston Hillyer's portrayal of Burr. Eliza's my overall favorite character in the show, but for me, Burr is the most relatable and grounded. I wasn't completely disappointed with his performance, but I just didn't think his character was able to "grow" in the second half. He has a very wonderful, crystal-clear voice, though!
Darnell Abraham as George Washington was also a main highlight of the show! Maybe it's because of his rich baritone voice, but I loved his father-son relationship with Callan. His Washington was thoughtful and deeply caring. (And dare I say I like him more than Chris Jackson from the OBC?)
Brent Hill was hilarious as King George, but I can't help comparing his performance with Jonathan Groff's. They both have brilliant comedic timing, but Jonathan's a much more menacing King George, whereas Brent is sassier and maybe even crazier!
Meanwhile, Hamilton's comrades: Marcus John and Trey Curtis, who played Lafayette/Jefferson and Mulligan/Madison respectively, also had so much chemistry with each other and stole the show so many times! Marcus reminded me so much of Daveed Diggs' little quirks in the show, but he was still great in his own way. I've read somewhere that Trey is also a standby for Hamilton and that he's amazing. Sigh... What I'd do to watch the show again and catch him as Hamilton! Julian Kuo was also very sweet as Laurens/Philip Hamilton, which made his death scenes twice as heartbreaking as usual.
Overall, I'm very much satisfied with this Hamilton cast!
Of course, Hamilton will not be complete without merch! Just like last time, I bought a boat tote bag because, like other Gen-Z kids, I'm obsessed with tote bags. We just can't help it! I also bought a lapel pin, so I can pin it to my other tote bags. I initially wanted to buy the button pin set, but unfortunately, it was sold out. I'm still pretty happy with my purchases, though!
Four days later, I'm back at home, and I still have post-show blues. I just listen to the OBC recording and the mixtape to keep me company. Maybe I'll rewatch the Disney+ pro-shot again!
Watching Hamilton was a dream come true and an experience I'll never forget anytime soon. I can't wait to watch my next musical again!
