hate hate hate when people say that scene isn’t “real alt”
“oh but scene is too expensive” it isnt supposed to be! consumerism fucked it all up! buy raccoon tail hair extensions off etsy! get makeup from your local drug store! make your own jewelry out of kandi! watch yt tutorials to style your hair! get stick on earrings, fake tattoos, etc! stud your own belts, go to thrift stores, buy things off etsy, it can and SHOULD be cheap!!!
“oh but scene doesnt have any politics” scene was originated specifically to embrace the term scene queen, which was used by older hardcores (usually men) who accused younger, attractive girls interested in goth, emo, or punk scenes (usually baby bats or puppy punks) that they were posers only looking for the fashion/music to gain attention from men. scene was heavily based off fashioncore and sass music, which were both genres against the hypermasculinity of hardcore scenes. and a lot of scene kids are TEENAGERS, and guess what? teenagers have opinions. they have beliefs and ideals about the things they believe in, and they can and should have spaces where they share those opinions. IS rooted in politics, specifically pro-women, sex positive, pro-self expression, and pro-youth rights politics, but because its anti-hypermasculinity, its “bad”? and even if that somehow isnt enough, almost every scene kid ive met has shared the political views of goths, punks, emos, etc, and many even identify as both scene AND those subcultures.
“oh but scene music is too mainstream” thats how music works. things get popular when more and more people like them. my chemical romance is popular, but no one is saying they arent alt. the ramones are popular, but no one is saying they arent alt. what makes scene music inherently different? what makes scene music less worthy of being alt when they get popular, but many mainstream emo, goth, punk, metal, etc bands exist and are praised as staples in the alt community?
people loveeee to call scene kids fake alts, posers, etc, when scene kids are extremely alternative in what they do.

Okeez so first off I just want to say that I love Hot Topic and I love that they brought back emo fashion and I'm extremely excited for the social collision collection from Xochitl Gomez so this in no way is me trying to put down HT or Xochitl because I'm super excited about what's going on with that collab (and maybe I will even post about it when it comes out)
But I wish HT would bring back scene fashion in full force not just the belts or Gloomy Bear or Invader Zim, I would love to see more neon monster shirts and hoodies come back and I'd love to see Domo make a return, I feel like just like how I see tons of emo content creators and people getting into the style I also see lots of scene content creators and I think it would be cool to bring all of it back in full force since so many people love it.
If they can make black and red clothes for emos than why shouldn't they put out sick neon scene fashion too?

a reminder for altrnative ppl from sum1 whos into several subcultures
why, even in this decade is there still somewhat a lack of inclusion in the emo, scene, & goth community? did y’all forget punk values?? (i.e. anti racism) (all 3 previously mentioned subcultures evolve from punk)
cnt we use all da colorz of scene as a metaphor for including ppl of all colors, cultures, etc?
in the same light, with emo & goth typically having darker visuals; i see that as a metaphor for inclusion of people of color
u dnt need to b thin and pale to be a goth. u dnt need to b a skinny myspace bitch w super str8 hair to be a real scene/emo kid
to all the baby bats, lil rawrs (what i call new emos/scene kids), curly haired alt ppl, chubby alt ppl, alt ppl with acne &or glasses, alt ppl who don’t have dyed hair or piercings, unconventionally attractive alt ppl, alternative ppl who can only listen to music but not dress the part due to any variety of reasons, and anyone else who doesn’t fit a chronically online snowflake’s definition of a “real punk”, “real scene kid”, “real goth”, “real emo”, etc. i see you. you’re all beautiful and valid as hell!!! RAWR <3 i luv u guyz x3

holy shit this is so annoying but the amount of times ive met alt girls (particularly punks) that will make their whole schtick being alternative and progressive then turn around and have racist, white boyfriends is insane.
like i genuinely hate calling people posers but holy shit. that is genuine poser activity. call me soft or wtv but i do believe that whoever you are actively dating says a lot about you and your beliefs.
like sorry dude but i find it hard to believe youre actually in the scene when your bf is a borderline racist, you actively make racist jokes, you dont even try to understand the history behind the scene, and the most punk thing you do is repost pictures of punks online. like dude can you and your racist crusty bf gtfo. no one wants you here
like, i get my entire brand is being involved in the punk scene, but outside of this account i dont even call myself a punk, yet somehow im more involved in the subculture than some of these leeches are.
idk this could just sound like elitist bs and if it does ill self reflect on that part but otherwise i genuinely hate performative mfs that claim to be alternative then turn around and act like or date complete assholes. like jokes or not idk if u and ur white bf should be joking about police brutality. maybe gtfo, break up and self reflect before turning around and trying to act like youre some "omg xd dirty rat saurr punk and aesthetic" girl despite never having evolved your political beliefs beyond "yeah queer people are cool".
yes this is targeted leave me alone i needed to rant

i have a huge bone to pick on specific types of people who call others “posers”
the other day i saw a goth girl say that if you don’t listen to underground bands/songs of a specific genre of music then you’re a “weird ass poser”
i mean, are we serious here?
“if your top favorite songs are the most popular ones then don’t even consider yourself punk/goth/emo/whatnot” - are you the CEO of rock? otherwise why are you sitting there and establishing roles and policies? you’re doing too fucking much. i kinda get what she means but that’s just an exaggeration imo. like sorry, didn’t know that you’re supposed to only listen to super underground bands that only their dog knows the existence of; otherwise you’re a stinky poser.
songs become popular sometimes, what can we do about it? they’re also most listened to for a reason, it’s cos they’re good. nobody’s at fault if some people prefer them over less known songs/albums, it’s called having individual music taste!
i understand if someone listened to just one rock song in their lifetime, doesn’t have the mindset, doesn’t know anything about it and now calls themselves alternative, then they don’t really deserve to be put in the same sentence as a poser cos they’re not even trying lmao.
but telling others who they are and aren’t just because they don’t listen to underground bands/songs of the subgenre you enjoy or they don’t pick them enough for your liking is NOT it. congrats, you out-gothed all goths for listening to “Bloody Hemorrhoids” with 4 monthly listeners and then hated on everyone who doesn’t… here’s your badge i guess?
digging up all the underground bands isn’t a necessity, listen to what you wanna! don’t let entitled people tell you wtf you should do. that’s my take on it

botdf rant that has definitely been said before
their music sounds cool. i like it. i like their clothes and hair and makeup. what i don’t like is the lyrics and the fact that dahvie was fucking a 10 year old girl… candyland and innocent high are both songs that have ‘child’ like themes, like candyland is well, candyland, which is very much a kids sort of thing, but obviously the whole song is about sex. innocent high is about school, and it’s also about sex. their overall beats too sound like a kids song and it’s just… really weird… and really didn’t age well..
a lot of kids listen to botdf, im a minor too, which makes it feel so much worse
i genuinely can’t listen to them because of their lyrics it’s disgusting and the thought of money still going to dahvie after what he did makes me sick
not to mention a lot of botdf fans (minors, likely) wrote songs for them

Quick animation I did yesterday to try figuring out what tf an impact frame is.
ID: 5 second rough fight scene animation of a woman with a curly half hawk hairstyle in a wheelchair sword fights a vaguely cat-shaped person. The woman lifts her sword, leans back a bit too much from the weight of it, and slams it down just in time to block a strike, before two consecutive strikes happen, and the woman pushes her assailant back, restarting the animation loop.

getting into hardcore/punk now that i'm actually ready and receptive to the genre as opposed to when i was getting into mcr/pop-punk and felt compelled to explore punk because of all the gatekeepers complaining about how fall out boy isn't real punk (which, sure, it's not) but at which point i wasn't able to appreciate punk for what it was because i was really just into pop-punk. anyway it's so much more fun now. i still love pop-punk and late emo but now that i have a historical context as well as a broadened musical palate to enjoy screams and growls and thrashy guitars and actually enjoy it instead of tolerating it! incredible. all this to say i love when pleasure comes naturally rather than being forced because of some idea of compulsion
#like i always wanted to be punk because i liked the aesthetics but at the same time#i used to go into a 2010s hot topic where they were playing some particularly screamy BMTH and be like woah... this is a bit much#and i had a gf in high school who made me mixtapes of riot grrrl (which in hindsight. HUGE win on my part lmao) but i'd be like um. they're#YELLING. scary#and now i can listen to hardcore and its offshoots and genuinely jam!!!! it's so awesome#it's not like okay i'm listening to minor threat and black flag because i'm ''supposed'' to (which i absolutely did for a period!)#it's a natural exploration of an arena of music that i find truly interesting and enjoyable#and it's even better now bc i'm not like putting on spotify's 'classic punk' playlist which is totally flawed. i'm actually diving into the#history and the scene and finding artists organically that i vibe with that i wouldn't have otherwise fou;nd if i wasn't reading zines and#indie websites and the like yknow#okay anyway that's my rant#az rambles

Had the pleasure of performing with an afghan poet (cool) in front of german charity ladies (not so cool) today. Charity ladies: You need to stop fooling yourselves. You are watching us, like your old husband is watching porn while you're away: self-serving, with the expactation of sweet old release (tears in your eyes). No sane person participates in these projects, unless they are paid well or lack experience/other opportunities to perform. Under the charity gaze, performers have two options: Tell their life as a sob story, or tell their life as an inspirational tale. I've seen this play out from behind the scenes now and frankly, I'm disgusted.

I've been into scene and emo music and fashion since I was very young and I'm currently 22 years old and let me just say that me and my friend who was scene growing up would have been listening to 6arelyhuman's music.
(While scene music is made up of crunkcore, electronicore, metalcore and pop punk specifically neon pop punk lots of people just call it scene music to keep things short and simple so thats what I'm doing :3)
People have considered s3rl's music has been popular in the scene while being considered to be scene music and Nevershoutnever's music is also popular in the scene and considered scene music and Brokencyde's music is scene yet all of those artists are so different from each other so why isn't 6arelyhuman's music scene music? Because it definitely is. Scene music isn't just made up of one genre.
(Even Kesha's music was super popular in the scene community! :3)
Its okay to say you don't like 6arelyhuman's music but it definitely is scene and I feel like one of the issues we have is how we really like to box things in nowadays and we just end up gatekeeping more than we really should and in the end things become more complicated and lots of fighting and we see people arguing over stuff that is very silly.
I am personally tired of constantly putting things and creativity in restraining boxes when it doesn't make any sense or i know that it feels wrong. That's not because I'm trying to be better than anyone but because I have lots of experience because this has been something I have been into for a long time and experienced growing up.
I also feel that we don't talk enough about how the scene intersects a lot. Pop punk bands have made emo songs, pop punk bands have been considered scene, both scene and emo kids listen to post hardcore and metalcore etc. Like it intersects A LOT and a lot of these bands in the scene have also toured together and have been in festivals together like Warped Tour.
(6arelyhuman definitely would have been playing on Warped Tour if they made music back when Warped Tour was alive and active :3)
I'm just tired of seeing the gatekeeping and the arguing, I've seen this so many times in the past especially in the emo community and I'm tired of seeing it everywhere and it's sad seeing it still happen. It reminds me of when I see metalheads gatekeep on Facebook lolz! I want to add that I'm not trying to shame those who say these types of things because I know that they are most likely minors who are still new to the scene and are just trying to find their way around and are still learning and looking for advice, I used to be exactly like that but as someone who has been into this stuff for a long time I just felt like I needed to speak up. This has been a huge part of my life and has been my special interest for so long and the urge to want to say something has been craaaaazzzzyyyy lolz!
Another thing I want to add is that there is nothing bad about growth and change either even if it can be scary at times, sometimes it's not always a bad thing and is needed for a community to continue to thrive. Artists like 6arelyhuman help people get into the scene and get into other scene and emo artists.
And that's a good thing :3
So let's encourage growth, change and inclusion. That's what the scene should be about <3

mm I have a real big family and I feel like my music taste is just a jumbled mess of stray pieces.
my aunt loved green day, and other punk-rock/alternative rock, she later dove head first into juice world, and lil peep.
My oldest brother(cousin actually but me, my bro and them all grew up same house hold) was were I got the sea shanties, and other indie music from also any and all video game music.
My older sister was obsessed w/Justin Bieber, one direction, later taking a turn towards scene, emo rap and the sorts.
My other older brother was more Midwestern emo, punk rock and alternatives, tho he regularly explores different music genres.
My younger brother is all Nirvana, lil peep, gorillas, slip knot, and the sorts, anything with a good guitar part gets his attention too, he can play pretty much anything on the guitar when he sets his mind to it.
My parents started out as nofx, punk rock and then it shifts to more dirty heads, Shakey graves, and now are stuck on Dax and Prof.
My grandparents love led Zeppelin, the Beatles, pink Floyd and the grateful dead, their both from the hippie era tho my Papa doesn't look it he is a hippie through and through.
My uncle is all into country, and country rock, personally I don't like his country music, but I do have a special place for certain country music.
My love of classical all came from band and my amazing band teacher who we all called mom even tho he was in fact not a parent at all, at least he wasn't before we became his students.
WERE YOU GUYS SUBJECTED TO SEA SHANTIES EXTREMELY OFTEN AT A YOUNG AGE OR IS THIS NOT A UNIVERSAL WHITE EXPERIENCE… bc like ur man knew all of drunken sailer at age 5

I can't shop for pants or accessories with my mom because if I say that an xl/xxl fits me she'll just be like
"No you are not that fat, and if you were you would need to start exercising more and maybe even go on a diet like me"
and this isnt exactly her fault, it's the fault of media beauty standards and her doctors telling her she's overweight and an unhealthy weight (she's not, she's actually thinner than some of our other family members, but because she isnt a twig like my aunt she's considered "unhealthy" by her doctors and so am I) but it makes shopping so much worse with her because she projects what she's told on me and when i tell her im fine with how I look/my weight she says "Well it's still not healthy" because that's what her doctor tells her. And so to keep myself from being told I'm fat in public I go a size down, and then I have to deal with pants/a belt/etc that's too small and it physically hurts me.
And like- telling me I need to exercise more is fine because yeah I probably do I sit down a lot, but telling me "you need to go on a diet like me" is kinda shit to say in public. Especially because my mom's diet is like- really concerning. She barely eats and it concerns me to no end.
#crow.txt#tw rant#tw vent#tw fatphobia#tw diet mention#...this started off as a rant about clothes shopping and ended in me talking about how concerned about my mom I am...whoops#ANYWAYS#I'm gonna learn how to drive specifically so i can go to hot topic and spencers on my own since the nearest one is a few towns over#and i would have to go with my mom because it's too far to walk#and the savers near me is even farther and has NOTHING in my style#and the 'thrift store' closest to me is in a church and i doubt they'd even take something in a scene emo or punk style to begin with#so it fuckin sucks#and yes I know I can shop online but some brands run small#especially hot topic#their clothing has such inconsistent sizing#and the problem with the thrift stores arises again
