really love how throughout a lot of smith and jones martha is really skeptical and apprehensive towards ten (+ one of my favorite exchanges between them - "what, people call you 'the doctor'?" "yeah?" "well, i'm not. far as i'm concerned, you've got to earn that title."), not taking everything he says at face value, even doubting the fact he's an alien until over halfway through the episode.. And like. i really truly think the thing that wins her over isn't him kissing her or any of the other insane mixed messages he manages to send, it's this scene here, where he /earns that title/ in her eyes:

(+ david's bit in the commentary, where he says: "[the doctor] has actually sacrificed himself, and - i would say, that that final act of selflessness is what finally, eventually, welds martha to him. [...] and she now returns it. she returns that act of selflessness.")

this is what their relationship is built on. it isn't about martha being the second-best replacement to rose or a rebound or whatever. bc it isn't really about rose. it's about doctor-in-training martha meeting someone (quite literally, "the doctor") whose ideals she aspires to, and doing her best to be the same person to him as he is to everyone else. it's about ten in return admiring her intelligence and inquisitiveness and how she cares for human life, recovering his compassion, letting himself lean on her for support - and then remembering at the most inopportune moments that he's supposed to not need anyone and be on his own forever. And around in their little nightmare loop they go where they save each other over and over until one of them breaks

i've seen ppl look at martha and go "why she does she admire/why is she so in love with ten if he acts like that to her?" or something along those lines and like. it's not just the fact she's in love with him (in fact i'd argue she actively tries to push it aside post-gridlock). it's the fact that she knows he's the kind of person to put everyone else's lives/well-being over his own. she trusts him to save her when she's in trouble even though it's been like two days at most that they've known one another bc she recognizes that same "deep all-encompassing drive to help others" in him. and she also recognizes, much much earlier than him, that he needs someone to save him, especially when he's unwilling to save himself. and yeah for a bit she thinks he returns her feelings and is just playing hard-to-get, but she realizes pretty early on that this probably isn't the case, and i think that realization fully solidifies here:

(this is when she's listening to ten talk abt gallifrey). And idk it might just be me but i think this expression isn't just her empathizing with his loss. it's also guilt, for wanting something from him that he's clearly unable to give when he's wracked with so much grief. (and you see it in the next episode, where tallulah asks if they're together and martha says for certain that they're not, and that he doesn't know about her feelings for him. she keeps everything to herself bc she now knows that when he shut her flirting down at the end of 3x01 it was the genuine reaction of someone who a) isn't interested and b) is scared of getting close with someone else again)

freema described their dynamic as "she's keener than him" and i think about this all the time. martha doesn't really take what ten throws at her. what she does instead is constantly poke holes in his already-failing front of "i will show someone the wonders of the universe so i can ignore what is wrong with me". what she does is stand up and fight him when he tries to go off on his own. what she does is put aside her well-being in favor of helping someone - just like what she saw him do for the people in the hospital when they first met. tldr, that's the doctor and his doctor and rip martha you would've loved who's gonna save u now by rina sawayama

ed seeing stede as a mermaid when he was on the brink of death and the reminder that someone loves him and is waiting for him being the thing that saved him

ed thinking stede is dead or in danger and the soundtrack that plays is a callback to when ed had a panic attack in 1x06 during stede and the crew's kraken fuckery. ed killing two british soldiers himself, personally and intimately, in a way he hasn't done since he strangled his own father. ed doing the thing that traumatized him the most.

thoughts are percolating rn and i dont have anything really concrete. but im thinking abt potential deleted scenes. bc smthng i thought after watching the finale was that it felt like they had written themselves into a corner and they had to sacrifice character moments for the sake of making sure the plot of the episode was coherent.

but that moment when ed killed those two navy men was a shock. i was shocked. they made it explicitly clear that this was ed breaking his rule. i expected them to spend more time talking about what that really meant for ed, but the used but every second of their 30 minute episode length. but that was something that im pretty sure the show was trying to portray as a bad thing, or as ed in a very bad mindset.

and. idk. something about mermaids and saving each other. something about that very dark headspace ed went into when he saw the republic of pirates. idk idk idk

If the question is if Ramonda gets jealous of others getting too comfortable around you, the answer is definitely yes. 

Though she hates to admit it, when she sees someone getting a bit too close to you, her entire body language changes and it puts her in a less happy mood. 

It’s not that she doesn’t trust you, she just doesn’t trust others to stay respectful. 

Factoring that in with the fact that you are extremely beautiful, she can’t keep her guard down for too long. 

She usually tries to avoid showing any jealousy in public. Her title as queen has taught her a thing or two about keeping a good reputation.

This has helped her learn how to act naturally in moments of jealousy, but sometimes she slips up and it's clear to anyone passing by.(especially to the people who cause the jealousy.)

She tries not to be physically possessive but her eyes tend to tell a completely different tale when waves of jealousy come passing through her. 

You like to poke fun at her in moments like those, especially when it's at an event. 

Ramonda stood in the corner of the room that held many country representatives. Though her main job for the event was to make acquaintances with other nations’ leaders, her mind was preoccupied with a completely different task. 

She scooted and shifted when people blocked the view of her one focus for the night.

Ramonda had temporarily named her “Roaming Eyes”. Not bothering to get her real name or the country she represented. 

It was the most appropriate name considering the way her  eyes were looking at every part of your body but your face. 

The two of you had been talking for the past 20 minutes, and Ramonda hadn’t looked away not even once.

She had her suspicions about the woman's intentions from the moment she caught a glimpse of what she was sure was a glare from the woman when you had both introduced yourselves to her together. 

Now she watched the woman do exactly what she thought she would. Check-out what was hers. 

After another 10 minutes, she was still so distracted watching Roaming Eyes. She didn’t realise that you were no longer standing next to her. 

Instead you were quickly approaching Ramonda, an embarrassed smile placed across your face as you passed by the other people in the room. When you got to her again you cleared your throat. 

“Ehem. My love.” you whispered. 

“Yes?” 

She still looked at the woman on the opposite side of the room. 

“Ramonda. Can you please listen to me?” 

She hesitantly obliged, turning her head and facing you. Her face softened instantly, but a few tension lines still sat on her forehead. Her eyes were still on the mysterious woman.

“Ramonda, we’re here to make Wakanda allies, not enemies. Now is not the time to have one of your jealous episodes.” 

“I’m not jealous!” she dismissed your claims. You shook your head, rolling your eyes. 

In any other moment her protectiveness would have been endearing. 

Ignoring her denial you spoke into her ear, "My love, your eyes are telling a completely different story.” 

She huffed, “Okay, maybe I am.” 

“Care to tell me why?"

 "Because she was clearly all over you, that's why."

You did your best in stifling a laugh, but your queen was quick to notice. 

"She was almost undressing you with her eyes!" she continued to reason. 

 "It's her first time at one of these events, Ramonda. She's young. She lacks experience. Of course her eyes would wander where they should not, my love." you held on to her arm, for reassurance. 

"Does my word mean so little to you?" 

"Of course not. It's not you who I'm wary of." she emphasised. “I don’t trust her and those wandering eyes.” 

“Well, I’m not asking you to trust her. She’s a stranger. I’m telling you to trust me. Your wife.”

She breathed out, placing her hand on top of yours that sat on her arm. 

“Fine.” 

"Good. Now, stop looking at her like that. You're gonna cause a scene."

Heyy How you doing? I wanted to make a request for Mischa Bachinski × reader where reader is like this popular but not mean kind of girl in town. Like everyone loves her and she's in every club she can and has good grades in school (which can be a problem for ocean), her friends'parents absolutely love her, etc. And like mischa and her don't talk to much, so he thinks she doesn't even remember his name. (Kind of like the song Gold Rush by taylor swift now that I think abt it? Idk).

The point is ofc she likes him, but she thinks he doesn't like her bc of his angry persona and all of that stuff (also what would people say if they saw her hanging out with someone with such a bad raputation?)

And when they finally clear things up and become friends they end completely falling in love w each other and have to tell each other at some point.

Hello! I'm currently very busy with school, but I'll still try writing oneshots at any opportunity I have! And don't worry, I love writing very long and detailed works, and I find it easier when the request is longer because I know what I need to write.

"The most loved girl in town" has been a Title that I've worn like a badge for most of my life. Ever since I was younger, I knew three things:

"Be friendly to others because you don't know what they're going through, be smart so that you can one day help others live a better life, and last but not least, be happy for making others happy"

At least, that's what my parents always told me, and I obeyed them. These rules have been actually helpful for me. Thanks to them, I am now known by everyone in town as being "The most loved girl in town", thanks to my personality.

I always help others when in need, and thanks to that, I've made a lot of friends. Yes, some of them have been fake to me, but I still have forgiven them.

I am also one of the best students in school. I've never got any grade below 79%, and I am also in every club in St. Cassian high school, including the school choir.

Speaking about the school choir, I am friends with a lot of people, even with my rival, Ocean. We don't hate each other, but we are indeed rivals in every class. After we get the scores on one of our tests, the one who has the lower grade needs to buy Taco Bell from my friend, Noel, and pay with the "loser"'s money.

Even if I have a lot of friends in school, I am not friends with one boy, who's name is Mischa Bachinski. To be honest, I would like to be friends with him, but I don't think he would want to be friends with me, a goodie two shoes.

I should probably try to become friends with him. Everyone has a good soul. There's no such thing as bad people. Mischa is just misunderstood, that's the problem, and I would like to try to break him out of his shell formed of anger.

The next morning, after I woke up, I decided to make a little bracelet for Mischa, since I want to start a friendship with him, and there's no better way than to make a friendship bracelet.

I spent a few minutes making the bracelet, which also included his name, and I felt very proud of myself, yet I was still kind of scared that he might reject my friendship bracelet.

After I was done making it, I put it on my wrist, and then took my backpack, and went downstairs to eat together with my moms.

As I was walking downstairs, I observed the decoration around the house. There were seventeen pictures of me, going from up to down. The first picture was a picture of myself when I was one, and the seventeenth one was of me in the present. I'm not exaggerating one bit when I tell you that my moms are very proud of me. They always brag with pride about how smart I am to everyone they meet. Most parents even beg me to be friends with their kids, so that they can learn to be "better". Of course, I befriended their kids, but I never tried to change them. Everyone is perfect in their own way.

"Goodmorning, (Y/N)! How was your sleep?" Asked my mama. I looked at her and I smiled, as my other mom was making breakfast for us.

"It was wonderful!" I said as my mom gave me an omelet.

"Well, we're glad that you slept well!" Mom said as she sat next to mama and me.

I began eating as if there were no tomorrow, and then got off my seat and waved at my moms.

"Wait, (Y/N)!" Mama said as she walked to me, and pulled my sleeve up, to show the bracelet that I was planning to give to Mischa.

"Young lady. Who is this "Mischa"?" She asked as she smirked. I blushed a little.

"Oh, he's a boy in choir, and I want to become friends with him, so I made him this bracelet," I said, and both mama and mom smiled at each other.

"That's good, honey! Hope we can meet him one day!" Said mom, as both she and mama waved at me.

I waved back and then headed off to school.

I have gotten to the choir and looked around for Mischa. he was indeed here, but he was sitting on his phone.

I walked up to him.

"Hello, Mischa!" I waved at him. He looked at me surprised.

"Wait, you remembered my name?" He asked. I nodded. "What do you want from me?"

"Well, I would like to become friends with you, only if you don't mind!" I said, and I took the bracelet off my wrist and showed it to him.

he looked in awe at the bracelet and extended his hand to take it. He took it so gently, it was as if he never got any gifts from anyone.

"Wow..." He said, and then looked at me. "You really had time to make a gift...for me?"

I nodded. He looked even more in astonishment at the bracelet. He looked like he wanted to cry, but he hid it behind the facade of someone with a "cool guy" persona. "Thank you, druh!" He smiled at me.

"Sorry if I seem rude, but what does "druh" mean?" I asked with a confused smile. He started chuckling. "Druh means friend in ukrainian." He said, still looking at the bracelet.

"Wait, you see me as a friend?" I asked once again. He smiled again.

"Of course! No one here ever gave me a gift, and you are the only one who gave me something even if we don't know each other very well."

He explained. My eyes sparkled. Then he added with a slight blush, "Thanks." I smiled brightly at him, and we continued chatting until class started. I just know that this will start a beautiful friendship.

I'll never forget the day when I befriended Mischa. Since then, we've been like two peas in a pod, rarely separated. Even though I've only been friends with Mischa for a few weeks, I consider him one of my closest friends.

After school, Mischa waited for me outside, and we decided to walk home together. He held my arm, and it felt so nice…but also weird. It was like a tingle running through my body, and my heart started beating fast.

We talked more and more, while slowly getting closer and closer to each other. I could feel a lump form in my throat. Why was I reacting like this? Maybe it's because I had never felt this before. Was this normal? Or was I overreacting? I couldn't tell. Our arms were touching, which was weird. I didn't like being touched by strangers, and Mischa was definitely not the type of person whom I would willingly touch. However, I enjoyed holding hands with Mischa. We arrived at Mischa's house. "See you at school, (Y/N)" Mischa said with a saddened expression as he wanted to enter his house. I stopped him, which made him look back at me "Hey, Mischa," I began, "I actually wanted to ask you something…" "Yeah?" He replied, sounding slightly nervous. "I…I…really like you! I blurted out. His face changed completely, and he looked shocked. He looked at me for a moment. "Why?" He asked. "Well, I guess I don't know! I just found out today that I have a crush on you, and then I couldn't stop thinking about you!" Misha began laughing. "Well, (Y/N), I like you too." He said, smiling. "Really?!?" I asked as I wasn't sure if I heard correctly. But then, it happened: he hugged me. A hug from Mischa Bachinski. "Yes, (Y/N), I really like you too." He said as he broke the hug. We stared into each other's eyes and smiled shyly. This relationship will truly begin like any cheesy romantic comedy.

Small details I understand/interpret/just rly liked seeing under the cut (spoilers)

Someone said the flashback takes place 6 years prior to now, I forgot whether or not it was stated early in the episode but it kinda checks out.

Orla and friede are childhood friends from kanto, she moved to hoenn, and they met again in paldea on ludlow’s fishing boat.

If anyone can PLEASE explain to me the puns(???) mollie and Murdock give before friede slides to the ground, do it, what I understood was “mimirol on a wall”, “metang playing shogi”, and runpappa caring abt SOMETHING

Ludlow is consistently called jii-chan by friede through the episode, whether this means they’re close and have a grandpa-grandson-like bond or if they’re actually related is unclear to me, I just like their back-and-forth while waiting for something to bite, reminds me a little of fishing with my dad.

After lucca calls friede(on a regular ass phone that is NOT a rotom), they meet up in medali’s treasure eatery(a small Larry cameo ensues), but I’m pretty sure friede and ludlow are fishing at the port on paldeas west coast.

The first thing said when the two meet in person is “it’s been a long time!” It seems a lot has changed since lucca was friedes teacher, she is very formal and calls him “friede-hakase” or “professor friede” at every given opportunity. He doesn’t react to this the same way he does in present day, it seems he took his title seriously until meeting pikachu.

Friede focuses in on Luccas wedding ring, relaxes a bit, you really get the vibe that two old friends just spent ages separated and are only now given the chance to catch up over drinks. He must not have seen her in person since she’s gotten married, or since liko was born, but he feels comfortable enough with his former teacher to meet her at the asscrack of dawn to go see that weird pikachu.

Idk how much time passed and for how long friede was watching pikachu, but it looks like he got tired of only watching, now wanting the action that should’ve come with the title of “pokemon professor,” and charizard seems to have wanted this as well. Charizard was mostly sleeping and flying low in the episode, but they jump at the opportunity to take to the sky for the first time in a while.

After catching pikachu, we saw ludlow raise his eyebrows for the second time in the episode(the first was to show amusement at friedes embarrassment in present day), looking proud of friede for doing something exciting. They head over to a construction site orla is working on and we get to see his outrageous request to her, as was alluded to previously.

She asked him if he was stupid LMAO

I like the short, sped-up montage of orla and metang working on the brave asagi but it does NOT make me feel any better abt how labor-intensive her tasks on the ship are now. Like she was building this shit ALONE day in and out and didn’t get paid by the childhood friend that asked for it in the first place. VILE….

Nevertheless, this was the start of the rising volt tacklers, which we now know is named very obviously for captain’s ability to rise into the air using a volt-tackle vortex. I couldn’t for the life of me understand what liko, Roy, and dot talked about at the end because of the music playing over it, but I appreciate orla still chatting and being silly with mollie and murdock off to the side.

The episode is beautiful, I’d watch it 100x over before subs come out, I side with the writer for this one and hope everyone watches it regardless of if they’ve been keeping up. Beyond excited to see someone who actually knows what they’re talking abt to translate this because I’m watching it with my best friend :).

there is sooo much i love about trejo but i think a major thing is that i actually love their entire discography, like i do not think they have a single bad song. i'm mainly a b-side enthusiast (u, volkno, come to me, darari rock remix, be with me ...) but my favorite title has always been 'i love you' which is what initially got me into them; i saw the music video and it felt like it was tailored to my tastes with the bright colors, aesthetic sets and the more refreshing concept, they just looked like they were having so much fun. after that, it was over for me lol i watched everything i could get my hands on, including all of treasure map, which i always recommend to new teumes if you have time to just watch from the beginning because you really get to know them and see how much their relationships grow over time. but if i had to recommend just a couple episodes my favorite of all time is 30-31 it is PEAK treasure silly chaos. sadly, we did lose 2 members this last year but mashiho and yedam are back on instagram and working on their own projects so we're all just waiting to see what they'll do next, and supporting the group as a 10 piece!

i love that the members who are interested in it have opportunities to be part of the writing and production; and ones who aren't ready for that at the official album level still get chances to practice on their own. y/g may give me a headache 99% of the time but it's clear that they foster their idols as artists and i really appreciate that. asahi especially does a lot w this, he's behind 'orange' and 'thank you' ; and rap line also does quite a bit of writing, i rly think volkno is some of their absolute best work and you can hear how much influence they pull from iconic artists. treasure in particular is also first and foremost a performance team - so the focus was to have a balanced lineup that can really put on a show. hands down this group is top of 4th gen performancewise, their stage presence and command is INSANE especially given that they had a pandemic debut. i highly recommend checking out any of their end of year show stages if you haven't - even their early ones - but particularly 2022 mama , & their GDA performance is of all the songs you have saved !

as for my favorite members, i think everyone knows jaehyuk has my heart but actually my first treasure ult is jihoon 💖 i could talk about them for a zillion years so i won't go on that rant in this response lol but i do love all the members and i think what i really like about large groups (and why i keep ending up stanning them lol) is that you get to see a lot of different relationship dynamics, it's i think a lot harder to fake a 'we're all best friends' narrative in a big group and i appreciate that because i don't buy that all (or even most) groups are all best friends lol it's not realistic. i'd rather see a group that works well as a team and treasure is definitely that, they see themselves that way and you can tell by how they treat each other and work together that there's a ton of love and respect and yes, a lot of real friendships there. and they ARE goofy hehe. anyways ... i think that's a good start LOL i hope it is i really just kind of went into rant mode so i hope i didn't bore you and that you might find some helpful stuff in here 🥰

So, I have a theory that at the end of Thanks to Them when Hunter absorbed Flapjack (that’s the best word I can think of but you get it) he also gained Flapjack’s powers and to use them he turns into a similar form to Harpy Eda I thought that would be cool but what’s your opinion?

tbh i feel like what is CERTAIN is that flapjack is a part of hunter now and we're definitely... gonna see more of him, in some form. i can imagine that he's a part of hunter's mindscape (similarly to how palismen consumed by belos were a part of his mindscape, except in this case flapjack willingly sacrificed himself; so i imagine his experience would be pleasant: being able to exist in his favorite boy's mind knowing this sacrifice saved his life, as opposed to being tormented by having your soul trapped in your killer's head... oof), especially when we take this crew member's ig post into consideration:

"For Flapjack... See you in our memories." AND IT'S?????? a mystical-looking forest, flapjack's (empty) staff stick, and (hunter's?) hooty mask? okay...... OKAY. i see what you're doing....

flapjack being a part of hunter's mindscape is also a way for us to get an actual look into the past, cuz we still haven't seen what happened between caleb, philip and evelyn directly (we have an idea thanks to, for example, all the hollow mind paintings, but what they showed us in the last episode and how they showed it to us makes me think they're definitely setting it up to fully reveal what happened sometime in the next episodes). so i think hunter is going to get a look into flapjack's memories, since they're literally connected now, and he's gonna see what exactly happened with caleb, philip and evelyn (that's how he's gonna find out clawthornes are descendants of caleb as well), from flapjack's pov. (hoping that if we enter his mindscape, then we also get some more direct look into hunter's past and some of his pre-canon memories 🕯🕯🕯 but like, we're definitely seeing some of flapjack's imo, that's for sure)

so.. tbh what i wonder is..... what's next.

we do know that grief is one of the main themes of season 3 (or, even the owl house as a whole). we're shown different ways grief can manifest and diff ways it can be approached.... luz, camila, darius, flapjack, even belos in a way..... hm. and now hunter.

luz and camila lost manny and we see it's affected them a LOT. we see this grief throughout luz's character journey, throughout camila's too. we see how painful this loss was... but they've also dealt with it in a rather healthy way. they carried on and got better, and even though they're forever going to miss him, they went on with their lives and adapted to that loss. and luz got azura from her dad and read it thanks to him, and now part of this big special interest of her also comes from and reminds her of her dad's love. and it's sooo so 🤲

we see that darius cared abt and respected his mentor a lot, to the point where he thought hunter wasn't worthy to be the next golden guard and was taking that feeling out on him, thinking he didn't deserve to inherit such title after his mentor had died. (hoping we see them talk abt the mentor and other golden guards in the next eps tbh cuz.... come on, they have a lot to talk abt still.)

belos.......... it's hard to call it a typical grief but it IS in some way, maybe has even been since the moment he saw caleb with that witch, cuz that's when he died in his eyes. this grief manifested into almost an obsession, where he keeps re-making caleb over and over, obsessed with the idea of them being witch hunters together, wanting to make a version of his brother that wouldn't "betray" him even though that's sth that is always always ALWAYS going to happen, it's inevitable. refusing to let it go and spiraling more and more... HM.

and now there's.......... hunter. hunter who already went through so so much, and who just lost his best friend, someone he loved the most. hunter who definitely feels guilty, but he also knows it was BELOS' doing, and he wants belos to pay for what he's done. hunter who.. was finally FINALLY happy, yet had all of his happiness taken away just like that. hunter who knows flapjack sacrificed his own life so that HE can live, and that he's forever going to be with him; his palisman soul.. but also the memories they made together. hunter who's clearly so so shattered, but trying not to focus on that pain he's feeling, cuz then he'd completely break. hunter who's angry at belos, who isn't going to rest until he gets some justice for flap. hunter who's going to have to go through this grief and loss... just.

there are so many ways his grief can be approached. especially comparing it to other characters' ways of dealing with grief, especially belos'..... showing how unhealthy holding on to sth we've lost might be.. showing acceptance of loss, a healthy way of letting go... showing that even if someone is gone, they're still going to be with us forever.... showing the anger and the feeling of unfairness that often accompany the feeling of grief.......... hm.

so i feel..... there are a few things that can happen.

the probably saddest but realistic scenario is that... hunter gets to have a final goodbye with flapjack. he gets to talk to him, gets to find out what he's been hiding from him, he gets to experience flapjack's love again and build a happy last memory for the future. and then.. flapjack is gone. and it's sad as HELL.. but promising for the future, cuz then hunter can healthily move on with his life. he can keep on, feeling less guilty, less heart-broken, with a happy last flapjack memory to accompany him. it's.... extremely sad, but when it comes to losing someone..... having that chance, to say goodbye, to have your last memory with a person you love be a happy, full-filling one, it can do wonders for grief. it doesn't make the loss hurt any less ofc but..... it makes you feel like you can go on, like there's no "unfinished business" weighing down on your heart. 

the other still rather sad scenario is that yes, they do talk, etc. etc. but flapjack DOES stay with hunter forever, as a part of him. i'd say it's bittersweet, cuz then flapjack IS alive, in a way, he's not gone, he's forever able to communicate with hunter, he remains by his side til the very end. 

sth abt flapjack having been alive for hundreds of years, all alone, but then finally finding a new person to love, and deciding to sacrifice his own life in order to save that person, deciding to stay with that person forever. it's so— OUHHGHHGGG. there's this bittersweetness here cuz then hunter doesn't lose flapjack, not completely. but he's still..... gone in a form that hunter would prefer. flapjack's with him but they can no longer fly together. he's never gonna tuck hunter in after he falls asleep reading a book in the middle of the night anymore. he's not going to tug on his hairstrand or annoy him (cutely). he's never going to race with other birds or catch an early rattle-worm anymore, he's never gonna sing in the morning. and it's SAD, it's extremely sad and tragic and.. sad. but he's with him, so it's also sweet. and it works as (a bit more literal but..) a metaphor of "even when you lose someone, they can live on in your heart, and in your memories". but... ouch.

there's also the theory that hunter may find a way to carve flapjack back, since he has his soul inside of him (and maybe it's "extractable" somehow??), has expressed the want to learn how to carve palismen, and eda does have that palistrom seed, and he might have to talk with clawthornes anyway (since he is gonna find out they're.. kinda sorta related, and i feel like the clawthornes would like to know abt that too so jxjsk). 

one of the big enigmas of that scenario, though, is the question: "how would he go around doing it?" would he carve him out identical? would he give him a new shape, a completely new form? or would it be a completely “new” palisman but with a bit of flapjack’s loving soul inside? would hunter form “flapjack” with a new "goal"/"intention" in mind? since they previously bonded by hunter's shared-with-flapjack desire to be free and able to make his own choices, so... . AND, if flapjack could just be carved back out like that, wouldn't his sacrifice feel.... more weak/kinda worthless in the end? this just feels a bit too easy but... HM. i can’t imagine it would be easy, though. there’s always sth that’d make it a challenge, and tbh.. even if it wasn’t, at this point hunter DESERVES to have sth good happen to him, even if unrealistic or “too easy”, but yeah. that’s what makes me wonder if they’d go for this writing choice.

.....there’s also the fact that “re-making”/”bringing back” someone you’d lost is exactly what belos has been doing, albeit in a very different way and with very different intentions, but with a similar end goal, so i could see them going for a contrasty parallel here; never moving on from someone’s death vs acceptance of loss. however, on the other hand, belos also never cared abt any of the golden guards, he wasn’t bringing “caleb” back out of love. so i COULD also see the contrasting scenario in which hunter would be able to bring back flapjack, but because he’d do it out of love for him, it’d be a genuine second chance in life, a successful happy ending. sth belos could never even realistically achieve, because he’d only cared abt himself and his own forced vision of what he and “caleb” (the idealised version of his brother that he had in his head) would do together, not abt what the actual caleb (or hunter, or any of the previous grimwalkers) actually wanted or who they actually were; he couldn’t care less abt that. so yEAH, this specific idea has so many “what if”s and “what about”s, narratively it could either work or not, depending on what direction they decide to go with hunter’s grief but...... HM. yeah.

i’ve also seen ppl propose that flapjack sacrificing himself for hunter and “merging with him” gave him some actual magic and made him like a “full witch”, spell circles and all; and.. that'd be awful actually, sure hope the crew didn't go there. i’ve talked abt it before but, in general, hunter's arc as a powerless "witch" works as a strong disability metaphor. and it's just...... it's about acceptance, it's about finding self-worth, it's about accommodating your needs, it’s about becoming proud and comfortable in your identity, NOT.... about whatever the hell him actually permanently getting witch magic would be; it’d be a “fixing disability” trope, which is just..... bad. awful. so, so wrong for so many reasons. sure hope they didn’t go there cuz that'd be so pointless and take away so much importance from his arc.... but also i don’t think they’d do sth like this?? because eda’s arc (which serves as another disability metaphor) is written well and with care; they didn’t cure her curse or give her her magic back, so.. i doubt they’d give hunter magic, either. but, y’know, just to be safe and clear. (also, even symbolism aside, i don’t think hunter (who’s already made of palistrom wood) absorbing a palisman’s soul/magic/energy would result in... him becoming a “real witch” and being able to create spell circles, like? 😭😭 i doubt it’d work that way)

NOW, him getting some grimwalker-specific features/abilities unlocked, though? OR even being able to just do flapjack’s teleporty thing? that could work. him getting at least something nice out of this whole situation, still having flapjack with him, without having the metaphor behind his character erased, would be soooo nice.

now, as for harpy hunter! 

it honestly makes a lot of sense too. belos, having consumed palismen, gained his whole..... y’know, goo form, which is a clear indication that absorbing palisman magic/having palismen as a part of your mindscape may change you physically. the way he’d gone about it, though, is he consumed many, MANY different palismen, and he literally..... sucked magic out of each one of them, after killing them. so i imagine that if hunter were to gain his own palisman-based form, it’d be more similar to eda’s harpy form rather than belos’ goo form, because it’d be based on flapjack only (rather than an amalgamation of all these different creatures) AND it wouldn’t have come from, y’know, sucking literal life out of poor little creatures, but from a loving friend’s willing sacrifice. à propos harpy eda, too, her harpy form obviously came from her facing her curse, bonding with the owl beast and accepting it as a part of her; so it feels like if hunter were to get a harpy form, obviously he wouldn’t have to “accept” flapjack (like that’s his little darling baby, that’s his bestie, that’s his sweet little bird), but he would probably have to deal with something in order for that to happen. the mechanics is different but.. in both instances, the “creature” (the owl beast and flapjack) inside of them is a part of them, exists in their mind (most likely/somewhat), and they’re able to somehow communicate with them and feel their presence (in hunter’s case it’s not confirmed but we may speculate that’s the case, based on what we saw in the last episode post-flapjack’s-death), so the mechanics also is sort of similar. different, yet... not.

so, in all technicality, it seems like harpy/red cardinal form hunter WOULD make sense, from the magical pov. it goes along with the logic of how some other characters’ different “monster” forms originate. although, the rules aren’t very set in stone, each of these situations is its own unique thing, so in the end it all just depends on (again) what direction the crew decides to go in.

however, the thing that makes me hmmmm about it is, i’m not sure if they'd.. implement the same metaphor as they did with eda, y'know? like, her curse and harpy form function as this whole symbolism of living with a chronic illness/disability, so hmmm would they go for the exact same conclusion/endgame with hunter? especially with the grief motif of season 3? not sure, not sure. they MIGHT though, who knows.

........there’s another thing that makes me think it MAY happen, though, and it’s like. hunter has this cursed tendency to say things that'll later come to haunt him in the MOST ironic way, like this boy literally projects on people in the most random ways and manifests every single unfortunate thing left and right, and i just 😭😭

"ew why are you touching it with your hands?" *touches a suspicious-looking substance with his finger with a FRESH OPEN WOUND on it and gets possessed* “because none of you can use real magic" *is magicless* “you don't tend to think things through, do you, human?" *never thinks things through* *is also technically partially human* "hello criminals" *becomes a criminal* "these things are made of wild magic, it’s dangerous" *is literally a grimwalker made of the same wild magic, like literally the same type of wood as palismen* LIKE..... BOY.   STOP SAYING THINGS. IT NEVER ENDS WELL.

so i just. 

that damn “at least i'm not delusional enough to think i can turn into a harpy" line is absolutely hysterical to me, cuz if he DOES end up being able to turn into a harpy, then......... 😭😭😭😭😭 look. a throwback to this line, a callback to this line.. it’d be so funny.

but yEAH.

there’s one more thing that makes me wonder abt where this all is going and it’s, like. flapjack basically counted as hunter’s support animal/disability aid. for someone powerless, having palisman while living in a world based around magic is... EXTREMELY helpful. hunter can’t fly without flapjack, he can’t play flyer derby without him (something he expressed he’d like to continue doing), he can’t teleport..

so, does he get a new palisman? because... there’s very little time for us to get attached to it and to kinda.. get to know it, if that’s the case. and also flapjack is still a part of hunter, so. hm. (unless that changes too, but. GAH) i feel like he loves flapjack so much, it’d be hard for hunter to replace him. he’d definitely feel so so happy being able to create palismen for others, or just for the sake of creating life, but creating a new one for himself.. that might be hard.  or does he get another artificial staff? because that is a thing that represents hunter’s time at the coven, time before he bonded to flapjack, before he realized wild magic is not, in fact, dangerous at all. so hm..... OR does he indeed get flapjack’s teleporting ability?? or the ability to turn into a harpy, and that replaces the use of a palisman? (+ starts using glyph magic) could he play flyer derby like that? i suppose he could..... i hope so. or does he not replace flapjack with anything, because he spends most of his time in the human realm? 

LIKE, IT’S JUST. GAHHHH. hunter... :(

i’m sure there’s gonna be lots of grief-related themes, some anger, some acceptance, some sadness, some justice, and finally some happiness in the end, something hunter deserves and needs just... so, so much. he deserves to heal, he deserves to be HAPPY. but it’s still just..... gonna hurt a lot first. 

there’s honestly so many ways this can go and so many things that can happen, so........ yeah. hm. thinking.

So, i've heard many players say that Kiro is autistic and always has been since his early age but where was that mentioned? It's so nice to finally see a thing that doesn't make autistic people stereotyped so i'm really interested as to how it was brought to players! Thank you for all the Kiro contents you post~

Yes, Kiro was an autistic orphan when he was a child. You'll find it mentioned in his R&S: Top Experimental Subject!

There's actually a collection of Rumors and Secrets that never made it to the EN server, so not many people know about Kiro's past (I cry about that every single time T-T). The reason why they never showed up on the EN server is because there were some issues with the event on the CN server. But since the devs have recently revived it on the CN server, it should come to EN at some point (thank goodness)!

Aside from the Rumors and Secrets though, Lucien also hinted at it in S1 Chapter 5 (tho you probably wouldn't realize it unless you read the R&S first):

Kiro's what you would call a musical savant. Despite his autism, he had a great talent for music.

But Kiro didn't become just a musician. He became an actor as well. An entertainer.

Also, there's something very important that MC mentions here:

The reason why I say this is important is because Kiro is often referred to as "a child of the stars"; stars also being one of the main motifs of his character. And he is often alone - Loneliness being a strong theme with his character as well. One of his future S2 karmas is even titled "Lone Star". You'll know the meaning of that title once the Chapter comes out, don't worry (ಥ﹏ಥ)

Besides that, this chapter also plays a HUGE PART in Kiro's Astral Date - a date that has been released on the CN server and will come to EN in a few months. Which is why knowing Kiro's background is important, because otherwise the date won't hit as hard.

‼️SPOILERS BELOW‼️:

The Date starts off with Kiro and MC attending a charity concert held by Madam Seidel Eve (one of Kiro's benefactors) in France.

This concert was held for the benefit of the autistic children, especially those with a talent for music. And Kiro happened to be one of the sponsors for these children. The inspiration for the concert came from a program that Kiro himself developed for the sake of these children. (Though he never revealed the fact that he was the one who developed it to anyone other than MC).

Here's a snippet of the conversation that Kiro and MC have within the Date about the show that she made in S1 Chapter 6:

MC: I told you before, I once did a program about children with autism.

Kiro: Was it "Children of the Stars"? I've seen it.

Kiro: I think you did a very good job with that episode.

Kiro: Really. How should I put it... it just resonates very much.

Kiro: You did not sympathize and alienate them, but treated them as independent individuals to face and accept.

Kiro: As a viewer, I saw their shining points, not the pitiful side of them as autistic patients.

Kiro: That's great.

Kiro's tone was extremely sincere, as if... he had watched that episode many times.

This is just a small part of the conversation. In the date, Kiro and MC talk a lot more about this topic and how they want to help these children in whatever way they can. And you'll realize just how important and serious this is to Kiro from his expression, demeanor and tone of voice.

A little something he mentions when MC asks him about the autistic child he helped out earlier at the concert:

MC: Is your help to that kid today considered as a light projected for him?

Kiro: Maybe.

Kiro: But such little light is definitely not enough. People with autism need a lot of sunshine and a lot of love.

Kiro knows what he's talking about because he empathizes with those children. After all, he had been in their shoes once upon a time. And it's obvious how much of an impact his words have on MC seeing how determined she was to play a role in this after hearing these things from him.

I once mentioned before how Kiro inspires MC to become a light, and this is exactly how - By lighting the way for others.

Anyway, thank you for the ask, nony! It allowed me to ramble about Astral Date there for a bit. That date will forever remain one of the best Kiro dates ever released imo.

OGH. I ALMOST COMPLETELY FORGOT ABT MUTE BEE. So yeah there's the generic "oh no bee gets injured and he can't talk anymore" thing but. Blurr is here too. Like Blurr see's him in the hospital with him then finds out that he can't talk anymore, and they end up healing together- physically and mentally <3 additionally blurr ends up being Bee's translator for his beeps (if ppl are able to understand what he himself is saying at least)

(also bee was probably attacked by Waspinator for this to happen so.. He has to unpack the guilt there)

It’s April 11, and today marks one year since I discovered Fugou Keiji Balance Unlimited on Twitter 😌

“Daisuke” was trending and I thought it was another Kpop thing (LOL cuz in my country the only things that always trend are Kpop-related), until I clicked on it and saw that it was a new anime. They were all thirst tweets like damn, and they were all so hilarious, and it wasn’t until I saw Daisuke’s edit with Cardi B’s Money that I got sucked into watching the anime, the first episode of which was just released the night before.

When I watched the edit I was like “Wow this man’s grace... this man’s beauty...” My issues got even worse when I learned that the reason why the title says “unlimited” is that his fvcking bank account is unlimited 😭😭

And mind you I have not watched anime for years now bc of ✨college✨

I went to YouTube to watch the opening song cuz ppl were going crazy for it, and bc ppl were saying stuff like he has a fiancé, and yeah damn the OP was lit, and then I saw it.. The sofa with ML carrying this “mysterious” girl. LMAO I was like “Ok nice we have this FL, he’s taken thank gohd” bc tbh I really wanted him to be taken already, better yet, with that gorgeous girl. I commented on the video saying “I hope his fiancé or whateva is rich... I also hope she’s badass, so she doesn’t have a bad ending.” LMAOO

That was the very first time in my life I dedicated my life into a certain anime, like frfr all I could think about the whole week after the first episode was that, and every morning after I wake up from my 3-hour nap I’d open my iPad, go to YT and watch the OP. 😌😂

Episode 2 came about and the girl has finally been revealed. Now this.. this was the time things started to get difficult, firstly because the studio decided to postpone further episode release, secondly, the debate about the girl being a fiancé, sibling, cousin, adopted, sweet home Alabama started and ppl were getting more and more... aggressive with it, bc on Twitter a lot of ppl really shipped the 2 ML together, while there were a very few ppl contradicting the idea that the girl is merely “family,” and that she could be smth else.

Every time I’d open Twitter all I’d see are these ppl bashing her and wanting the 2 ML together etc... Meanwhile here I was, part of the very few who wasn’t convinced that they’d downplay her into becoming “family” or “relative” and whatnot, most especially bc we knew her place in the novel (thank gohd I saw tweets abt her and the novel), and I was looking for some support, which I unfortunately did not find bc the aggressive ppl would bash on whoever opposed them.

Even on fvcking Instagram there were still bashers. The only time they won’t bash is if the content is purely abt Suzue herself. Even then there would still be ppl questioning her real identity, but they’d be overshadowed by the fujos/fudans.

Fortunately someone on Instagram snitched, saying there were “worse” ppl in tumblr shipping FL and ML tgt. And then I knew it was a sign to download the app and revive my account 😂

I’m so glad to have met the first 2 ppl ( @innovativestruggles @kannra21 ✨✨😍)with their dissertation, and damn those were the best times I ever had. I read every post made, and the one that really stuck with me until now was the facial feature comparison between Daisuke and Suzue, and SHEEEESSSHH she really pointed out the good- the BEST stuff. They also covered the OP, bc it had a lot of Suzue in it, and the speculations were *chefs kiss* 😊

During the hiatus I had no FKBUL food from the official source, but y’all on tumblr sustained me. Idek what happened to the person who tried translating the novel anymore.

Harrow the Ninth: Flotsam

So I’m currently on page 136 and have more stuff to palaverate. Again: Spoilers if you aren’t to that point.

But gosh this book is dense! Not in a bad way certainly, but there’s just such a sense of Stuff going on in it, and I keep finding myself reading passages over and over again & checking vocabulary to make sure I’m grasping it, which works REALLY WELL with a narrative abt someone buried in grief, struggling with unreality, and not entirely in control of their own thoughts, behavior, and body.

“Insanity”, The Body, and Gideon

Ok so now I know that, whatever this is, it’s not JUST a psychological break but also some actual physical and metaphysical injury that Harrow did to herself(partly through the semioblivious assistance of Ianthe) which has created these false(or perhaps falsified, given the constant refrain of “is this really how it happened?”) memories, as well as Harrows physical and metaphysical frailties, and her blackouts/episodes of lost time.

I’m also getting the sense that the hallucinations&memories of The Body might be an alteration too? Like: there was no evidence of something like the “insanity” Harrow has in these memories, nor mention of the visions themselves, in Gideon the Ninth, and the letter DID say Harrow’s intent was to create a “new” Harrow(obvsl partly through a new history), and The Body(and similar manifestations like when Magnus’s eyes turn a color she won’t let herself comprehend[probably a golden yellow], or when she hears Lyctor!Gideon’s name -edited to Ortus- and immediately starts anxiety-bleeding from her ears), seem to crop up at moments which recall Gideon.

So I’m wondering if “The Body” and this “insanity” are not just set-dressing(though I was initially taking The Body hallucinations as real and previous to all this) but directly a method Harrow has used to hide Gideon from her, like an overlay? I mean: obvsl that’s the whole point of this Ortus alternate history, but I’m wondering if also, perhaps, the memories of The Body are overwriting memories of times with/thoughts of Gideon, and if some of these visions are Gideon manifesting for her, and her brain recasting it as The Body(which, if that’s the case, says some very Interesting Things about her feelings for Gideon[I mean: her whole “I cant live in a universe without you in it” speech in GtN was pretty explicit abt the intensity of her feelings, so it’d really only confirm a romantic/sexual component to that, if again that is what’s happening]). Though it could more be moments when she THINKS about or wants for Gideon(she tends to show up at tense or frightening moments as well) and her brain brings up The Body as a distraction. Also just the terminology here, “The Body”, is suggestive. I mean obvsl it’s an understandable term for the girl in the tomb, but it’s also the common term for a corpse(and also the title of a Buffy episode famous for dealing with the sudden death of a loved one and the grief that brings and I KNOW Muir knows that) like, for instance, Gideon’s corpse and all the trauma, grief, and heartache that it represents. Basically I’m just saying: it’s specific genericness makes it Ambiguous, and THAT makes it prime dictional real-estate for symbolic masking u_u

Also I’m wondering What The Deal is with those blackouts, obvsl? In the last one she impaled Cytherea’s corpse. Could this be Original!Harrow resurfacing, or another construct like New!Harrow, or violent responses to triggering events which her brain is then “forgetting”, or are these episodes more like the memory loss associated with psychosis? There are many possibilities here.

Also Also: I wonder why she rewrote Teacher as using her sort of over-the-top diction? Though, when she relates what he told her about the facility to Gideon, that was also more in her mien(though not nearly so as in the false memories in HtN) than what we’d seen before in his interactions with Gideon, so could it be that, one-on-on, Teacher behaved differently with everyone there?

Also Also Also, while we’re on the subject of diction, there’ve been moments where the 2nd person narration has used thoroughly Gideonian phraseology, and attributed it to Harrow’s inner thoughts, so I’m wondering if that’s a sign that she still IS connected to Gideon’s soul but has blocked it somehow, or if it’s just supposed to be suggesting Gideon as a narrator, or if it’s just Muir’s style(I mean: it very much IS Muir’s style either way, but is it JUST that or intended to convey something?). I’d read an old interview recently where Muir talked abt writing Gideon as being “very human”(also: “a kiwi hero”, but neither here nor there :p :p) in opposition to Harrow who was trying to deny her humanity, which makes Gideon’s diction popping up Suggestive; either of her continued presence in some sense, or of a change in Harrow towards the more humane(and I mean: she’s literally altered her own memories to make herself a different person because of the disgust she felt at herself over Gideon’s death and all the abuse she put her through in life, so...).

FTL

The shuttle Gideon and Harrow used didn’t, and couldn’t, have had a stele, so either there is another form of FTL the Empire is using, or Ninth isn’t Pluto, or Muir just fudged the numbers in Gideon the Ninth :p Maybe there’s some other FTL transit method connecting the Houses?

EGGS

WTH is the DEAL with these Egg messages, HUH?!? They’re a bit too coherent to be word-salad, and they’ve only popped up in these false memories so far(in fact; other than The Body visions, these “insanity”-hallucinations have only ever manifests in those false memories so far), so I wonder if it’s something to do with Gideon; a message perhaps? The “You Lied” is suggestive, given the message in the final Lyctor room. Maybe this is just me trying to read into something that’s not meant to have meaning other than to be disturbing&build the mental-illness narrative for New!Harrow. They are pretty over-the-top, and Harrow has an obvs love for the over-dramatic

Harrow and The River

So, even tho she’s deliberately maimed herself so as to prevent her use of Lyctor abilities, she can cast within The River, which no one’s supposed to do/be ABLE to do, and she didn’t experience any of the dislocation, at least not til the end(?), AND she felt as if she remembered the experience? What’s up with that?? And her dislocation seemed different than how the Emperor described it, losing touch with your body. Like: she set it off by casting, which was amplified and misdirected for some reason, and her blood got into The River, and then she saw that vision of the Ninth House dead, then the Gideon!Baby which REALLY set her off, and the Emp talked of this as an attempt by The River to disrupt her(meaning: she wasn’t disrupted at the time, meaing she was holding together really well). And she got kind of Ascendy and could see the shuttle from The River’s perspective?? ?

And then the whole thing with the Lights.
