Nope, Trump didn't "salvage" Obamacare as J.D. Vance claimed.
Some fact-checking from the vice presidential debate. From NPR.
During his presidency, Trump undermined the Affordable Care Act in many ways — for instance, by slashing funding for advertising and free "navigators" who help people sign up for a health insurance plan on HealthCare.gov. And rather than deciding to "save" the ACA, he tried hard to get Congress to repeal it, and failed. The Biden administration has reversed course from Trump's management of the Affordable Care Act. Increased subsidies have made premiums more affordable in the marketplaces, and enrollment has surged. The uninsurance rate has dropped to its lowest point ever during the Biden administration. The Affordable Care Act was passed in 2010 and is entrenched in the health care system. Republicans successfully ran against Obamacare for about a decade, but it has faded as a campaign issue this year.
So just the opposite of what J.D. claimed. The Trump administration didn't save Obamacare, it tried to sabotage and kill it.
People who have a weirdly nostalgic view of the Trump administration forget how he tried to kill Obamacare with help from the Republican majority 115th Congress. From its inception, Republicans in Congress have tried to kill Obamacare 70 times.
Obamacare may not be perfect, but it is superior to what existed previously. The bulk of people who hate it are connected to Big Pharma, for profit medical corporations, and the Republicans who get big campaign contributions from them.
The name Obamacare tells us a lot. It was coined as term of disparagement for the Affordable Care Act by Republicans. But it became so popular that Republicans ended up shooting themselves in the foot by eternally connecting the ACA to the Democratic president who was the driving force behind it.
Trump has had nine years to come up with a viable alternative to Obamacare. But the "stable genius" still can't put together a coherent sentence about what he'd replace it with.
For affordable healthcare, vote Democratic to improve it or vote MAGA Republican to destroy it.

Well done:
I was sorrow and hurt, but went jogging. Fresh warmer air, physical activity and Taylor Swift’s eras tour set vitalised me. There is still some grief, but it’s easier to deal with when I’m active.
To better:
As I’ve bumped into my saviour complex, I feel frustrated. I’ve listened to a few podcasts and read articles, but the prime reason for my desire to save the world is still a mystery to me. Is it that I feel wounded by unreachable nature of my dreams, my farther’s death or basic unfulfillment of care and love in childhood. Keep on digging.
Delights:
The first episode of third season of “Sanditon”. Such a delight to know that all stories will end well and just enjoy the picture of life in process.
Jogging at the streets that are almost free of snow. On the way home I met a neighbour’s cat and rubbed him. He’s such a lovely creature.
Spontaneously we started to watch “Cranford”, we mused and laughed the whole time.
Human value:
I took care of my hygiene, used scrubs, oils, mask, creams, and fresh clothes. I’m worthy of care.
In the evening I was tired after cleaning up, so I just sat and enjoyed some period drama. It certainly gave me some warm feelings and sense of safe sentimentality.

Look.
Tumblr media
I have made you a chart. A very simple chart.
People say "You have to draw the line somewhere, and Biden has crossed it-" and my response is "Trump has crossed way more lines than Biden".
These categories are based off of actual policy enacted by both of these men while they were in office.
If the ONLY LINE YOU CARE ABOUT is line 12, you have an incredible amount of privilege, AND YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT PALESTINIANS. You obviously have nothing to fear from a Trump presidency, and you do not give a fuck if a ceasefire actually occurs. You are obviously fine if your queer, disabled, and marginalized loved ones are hurt. You clearly don't care about the status of American democracy, which Trump has openly stated he plans to destroy on day 1 he is in office.
EDIT:
Ok fine, I spent 3 hours compiling sources for all of these, you can find that below the cut.
I'll give at least one link per subject area. There are of course many more sources to be read on these subject areas and no post could possibly give someone a full education on these subjects.
Biden and trans rights: https://www.hrc.org/resources/president-bidens-pro-lgbtq-timeline
Trump and trans rights: https://www.aclu.org/news/lgbtq-rights/trump-on-lgbtq-rights-rolling-back-protections-and-criminalizing-gender-nonconformity
The two sources above show how Biden has done a lot of work to promote trans rights, and how Trump did a lot of work to hurt trans rights.
Biden on abortion access: https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/08/politics/what-is-in-biden-abortion-executive-order/index.html
Trump on abortion access: https://apnews.com/article/abortion-trump-republican-presidential-election-2024-585faf025a1416d13d2fbc23da8d8637
Biden openly supports access to abortion and has taken steps to protect those rights at a federal level even after Roe v Wade was overturned. Trump, on the other hand, was the man who appointed the judges who helped overturn Roe v Wade and he openly brags about how proud he is of that decision. He also states that he believes individual states should have the final say in whether or not abortion is legal, and that he trusts them to "do the right thing", meaning he supports stronger abortion bans.
Biden on environmental reform: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/10/07/fact-sheet-president-biden-restores-protections-for-three-national-monuments-and-renews-american-leadership-to-steward-lands-waters-and-cultural-resources/
Trump on environmental reform: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/climate/trump-environment-rollbacks-list.html
Biden has made major steps forward for environmental reform. He has restored protections that Trump rolled back. He has enacted many executive orders and more to promote environmental protections, including rejoining the Paris Accords, which Trump withdrew the USA from. Trump is also well known for spreading conspiracy theories and lies about global climate change, calling it a "Chinese hoax".
Biden on healthcare and prescription reform: https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2023/06/09/biden-administration-announces-savings-43-prescription-drugs-part-cost-saving-measures-president-bidens-inflation-reduction-act.html
Trump on healthcare reform: https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/07/politics/obamacare-health-insurance-ending-trump/index.html
I'm rolling healthcare and prescriptions and vaccines and public health all into one category here since they are related. Biden has lowered drug costs, expanded access to medicaid, and ACA enrollment has risen during his presidency. He has also made it so medical debt no longer applies to a person's credit score. He signed many executive orders during his first few weeks in office in order to get a handle on Trump's grievous mishandling of the COVID pandemic. Trump also wants to end the ACA. Trump is well known for refusing to wear a mask during the pandemic, encouraging the use of hydroxylchloroquine to "treat" COVID, and being openly anti-vaxx.
Biden on student loan forgiveness: https://www.ed.gov/news/press-releases/biden-harris-administration-announces-additional-77-billion-approved-student-debt-relief-160000-borrowers
Trump on student loan forgiveness: https://www.forbes.com/sites/adamminsky/2024/06/20/trump-knocks-bidens-vile-student-loan-forgiveness-plans-suggests-reversal/
Trump wants to reverse the student loan forgiveness plans Biden has enacted. Biden has already forgiven billions of dollars in loans and continues to work towards forgiving more.
Infrastructure funding:
I'm putting these links next together because they are all about infrastructure.
In general, Trump's "achievements" for infrastructure were to destroy environmental protections to speed up projects. Many of his plans were ineffective due to the fact that he did not clearly outline where the money was going to come from, and he was unwilling to raise taxes to pay for the projects. He was unable (and unwilling) to pass a bipartisan infrastructure bill during his 4 years in office. He did sign a few disaster relief bills. He did not enthusiastically promote renewable energy infrastructure. He created "Infrastructure Weeks" that the federal government then failed to fund. Trump did not do nothing for infrastructure, but his no-tax stance and his dislike for renewable energy means the contributions he made to American infrastructure were not as much as he claimed they were, nor as much as they could have been. Basically, he made a lot of promises, and delivered on very few of them. He is not "against" infrastructure, but he's certainly against funding it.
Biden was able to pass that bipartisan bill after taking office. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan that Trump tried to prevent from passing during Biden's term contains concrete funding sources and step by step plans to rebuild America's infrastructure. If you want to read the plan, you can find it here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/build/guidebook/. Biden has done far more for American infrastructure than Trump did, most notably by actually getting the bipartisan bill through congress.
Biden on Racial Equity: https://www.npr.org/sections/president-biden-takes-office/2021/01/26/960725707/biden-aims-to-advance-racial-equity-with-executive-actions
Trump on Racial Equity: https://www.axios.com/2024/04/01/trump-reverse-racism-civil-rights https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-us-canada-37230916
Trump's racist policies are loud and clear for everyone to hear. We all heard him call Mexicans "Drug dealers, criminals, rapists". We all watched as he enacted travel bans on people from majority-Muslim nations. Biden, on the other hand, has done quite a lot during his term to attempt to reconcile racism in this country, including reversing Trump's "Muslim ban" the first day he was in office.
Biden on DEI: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/06/25/executive-order-on-diversity-equity-inclusion-and-accessibility-in-the-federal-workforce/
Trump on DEI: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-tried-to-crush-the-dei-revolution-heres-how-he-might-finish-the-job/ar-BB1jg3gz
Biden supports DEI and has signed executive orders and passed laws that support DEI on the federal level. Trump absolutely hates DEI and wants to eradicate it.
Biden on criminal justice reform: https://time.com/6155084/biden-criminal-justice-reform/
Trump on criminal justice reform: https://www.vox.com/2020-presidential-election/21418911/donald-trump-crime-criminal-justice-policy-record https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2024/05/trumps-extreme-plans-crime/678502/
From pardons for non-violent marijuana convictions to reducing the federal government's reliance on private prisons, Biden has done a lot in four years to reform our criminal justice system on the federal level. Meanwhile, Trump has described himself as "tough on crime". He advocates for more policing, including "stop and frisk" activities. Ironically it's actually quite difficult to find sources about what Trump thinks about crime, because almost all of the search results are about his own crimes.
Biden on military support for Israel: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/biden-obama-divide-closely-support-israel-rcna127107
Trump on military support for Israel: https://www.vox.com/politics/353037/trump-gaza-israel-protests-biden-election-2024
Biden supports Israel financially and militarily and promotes holding Israel close. So did Trump. Trump was also very pro-Israel during his time in office and even moved the embassy to Jerusalem and declared Jerusalem the capitol of Israel, a move that inflamed attitudes in the region.
Biden on a ceasefire: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2024/06/05/gaza-israel-hamas-cease-fire-plan-biden/73967659007/
Trump on a ceasefire: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-israel-gaza-finish-problem-rcna141905
Trump has tried to be quiet on the issue but recently said he wants Israel to "finish the problem". He of course claims he could have prevented the whole problem. Trump also openly stated after Oct 7th that he would bar immigrants who support Hamas from the country and send in officers to American protests to arrest anyone supporting Hamas.
Biden meanwhile has been quietly urging Netanyahu to accept a ceasefire deal for months, including the most recent announcement earlier in June, though it seems as though that deal has finally fallen through as well.

Banging on the walls chanting "OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR ACA THRU JAN 15" like some deranged town crier. Election results aside, you have options to access healthcare as a RIGHT through the ACA. NO one can dismantle the Affordable Care Act in less than 4 years, so SIGN UP! GET YOUR CARE! USE THE SYSTEM!
You have options RIGHT NOW that will be stable thru the next year, the one after that, and I'd be shocked to see them shrink even the year after that. That means RIGHT NOW you can get signed up for next year to gain 100% covered preventative care (your annual check ups, pap smears, dental cleaning, vision check). You have the option to get checked and screened as you need, do NOT be dissuaded from exploring ACA choices. They are SOLID, LEGISLATED, and WORK BEST WHEN PEOPLE USE THEM.
I can't change most things around me, BUT I CAN tell everyone I know that THEY CAN GET LIFE SAVING CARE. THEY CAN GET PRESCRIPTIONS. THEY CAN GET PREGNANCY CARE. THEY CAN GET CANCER CARE. AND THEY WILL GET THAT CARE!!!!!!
SIGN UP BY DECEMBER 15, 2024 FOR COVERAGE TO BEGIN ON JANUARY 1, 2025. ENROLLMENT AFTER 12/15/24 WILL HAVE COVERAGE BEGINNING FEBRUARY 1, 2025.

(if this is too long please feel free to just do the "upset? I'm not upset" paragraph lol. The warrior cats fandom will thank you!)
"Your quarrel with Brambleclaw has to stop. Too many moons have passed. You have to accept that I'm Brambleclaw's mate, not yours. You can't keep trying to punish Brambleclaw for something that was always meant to be."
"I couldn't care less about Brambleclaw. It's not his fault he fell for a faithless she-cat. I know you think I've never forgiven Brambleclaw for stealing you from me, but you're wrong, and so is every cat that thinks so. My quarrel is with you, Squirrelflight. It always has been."
"All this was moons ago. Ashfur, I had no idea you were still upset."
"Upset? I'm not upset. You have no idea how much pain I'm in. It's like being cut open every day, bleeding onto the stones. I can't understand how any of you failed to see the blood... […] Stay there! I can't believe you didn't know how much you hurt me. You are the blind one, not Jayfeather. Who do you think sent Firestar the message to go down to the lake, where the fox trap was? I wanted him to die, to take your father away so you'd know the real meaning of pain. [...] Brambleclaw saved Firestar then. But he's not here now. He's not here—but your kits are."
"Enough, Ashfur. Your quarrel is with me. These young cats have done nothing to hurt you. Do what you like with me, but let them out of the fire."
"You don't understand. This is the only way to make you feel the same pain that you caused me. You tore my heart out when you chose Brambleclaw over me. Anything I did to you would never hurt as much. But your kits...If you watch them die, then you'll know the pain I felt."
"Kill them, then. You won't hurt me that way. If you really want to hurt me, you'll have to find a better way than that. They are not my kits."

#I started crying election night 2016 because I was TERRIFIED they'd repeal the ACA - @bibliomancer7
Like FUCK John McCain in general but remember that night in 2017 when they were voting on the ACA and we were all positive that the Trump congress was going to repeal it and then out of nowhere McCain killed the repeal by a goddamn hair? I think I literally sobbed with relief.
i think a big reason that I get frustrated with the "liberals have never made anybody's lives better" is that in the US it used to be legal for insurance companies to charge you more if you were sick or even just straight up deny you the ability to sign up for them if you already had a "pre-existing condition", and this was only stopped by the passage of the ACA during Obama's term. but a lot of people who talk about politics on here are too young to really be affected by that since they would have been on their parents insurance (which the ACA required insurers extend until you're 26). and this was all done via politicking and not blowing up insurance CEOs mansions or whatever.
I'm not saying that the ACA fixed insurance forever, god no. but "you can't deny someone insurance for being sick" is a massive change and people don't realize it!
Most adults want the law’s prohibition on insurers from denying coverage based on pre-existing medical conditions to stay. Two thirds (67%) of the public say that it is “very important” that this provision remain in place, including most Republicans (54%) However, only about 4 in 10 people (39%) are aware that that provision is part of the ACA.

Wenclairtober 2024, Day 5 - Vision
The gang, despite missing Wednesday and Enid, has just foiled the latest nefarious plot targeting Nevermore. They now encircle the mastermind, a psychic who had infiltrated the Nightshades under the guise of friendship.
Villain: How did you know it was me? What gave me away?
Bianca: It was pretty obvious from the start.
Ajax: Yeah dude, even I could tell something was up.
Villain: Impossible! Everything was perfect. The intel on all of you was absolute. My identity was bulletproof!
Yoko: Wenid.
The Nightshades collectively snicker.
Villain: What?
Divina: Enid and Wednesday. You kept calling them Wenid. Nobody calls them that. It’s Wenclair.
Villain: And?
Kent: For serious? That’s like shipping Becca and Chloe from Pitch Perfect and calling them Chloecca instead of Bechloe.
Villain: *sputters* W-Well, you may have saved the school, but you didn’t save your precious Wenclair!
Wednesday: They didn’t need to.
Everyone startles as the seer steps out of the shadows, followed by a brightly smiling Enid.
Enid: Hey all! Good job!
Color drains from the mastermind’s face. They stare wide-eyed at the newcomers, jaw dropped in horrified confusion.
Villain: How are you here?! You should both be trying to prevent her vision from coming true!
Villain: *snarls and points* Addams should be mad from paranoia by now! And you—
Enid: *beams*
Villain: — should be heartbroken and desperate!
Wednesday: While I admire the intent, your execution was hopelessly flawed.
Villain: How?!
Wednesday: The false vision you inflicted upon me of my tragic and inevitable death by my fiancée’s claws. It had a single mistake that was beyond obvious.
Villain: *twitches* What was it?
Wednesday: My tombstone. It read Wednesday Friday—
Enid: Sinclair! Wednesday Friday SINCLAIR!!
A brief silence follows, to be broken by the gang’s descent into hysterical laughter. The antagonist looks around in shock as their spirit visibly crumbles.
Divina: Oh. Oh wow. You thought— *giggles* You thought she’d take Enid’s last name?! I can’t even!
Villain: B-But—
Bianca: No. Fucking. Way. Holy shit you dumbass!
Ajax/Kent: DUDE!!/BRUH!!
Yoko: L-O-FUCKING-L! You absolute LOSER!
Villain: 😭
Villain: *takes eMOtional DAmage!*
Villain: 😵
Bianca: That was easy. So what now?
Enid: Ya guys wanna watch Pitch Perfect?
The Nightshades answer with unanimous cries of approval.
Enid: How about you, future Wednesday Friday Sinclair?
Wednesday: *snorts* I suppose I can tolerate some Bechloe.
Enid: Aca-awesome!

I know everyone is trying to stay positive right now, but I can’t help but feel rubbed the wrong way about all of the “choose to stay alive” posts when disabled Americans won’t have much of a choice. If the ACA is repealed, my insurance can refuse to cover live-saving treatment and medication. If you’re on disability benefits, you can lose your only income if this administration removes you from them.
I’m having a hard time putting my thoughts into words, but I hope this makes sense. A chronically ill person can’t “chose to live as a form of protest” if they are denied the medicine or the equipment or chemo or surgery they need to live. They don’t have a choice to just live without those things. They will just die.
I know that many people are in crisis right now after the election and trying to plan to keep themselves safe and sane until 2029, but disabled people are arguably the most vulnerable and not being talked about by anyone but ourselves. We are not collateral damage. We are people. People who need to be advocated for by anyone who claims to care about marginalized groups.

Thursday, 30 March 2023
Well done:
I managed well the moving of the ACA meeting to another week. It seems like everything alright. (I was a good girl. Sounds a bit compulsive)
I wrote the ACA homework about messages family send me about me and the world. There was almost no chance for me grow into a dewy-eyed positive adult.
To better:
Stop trying to save the world by dissecting my friend’s beliefs! (The dissection took place by her gentle acceptance and farther joy) I don’t have to fix her views, she’s able grown woman who’s free to be mistaken. It’s her responsibility to have adequate worldview or wander in the fog. She’s not asking me to analyse her assumptions, she’s got no problems with herself. “It’s me, I’m the problem it’s me”
Household chores were too tedious for me today, but I overstrained myself anyway. Why? I don’t have to do the perfect cleaning all by myself, it exhausts me. Ask for help. Don’t be so heroic.
Delights:
“Not-a-cast” podcast about Daenerys.
“White Queen” period drama. So many players and a lot of power hunger. No hint of aristocracy’s higher purpose than just throne.
Human Value:
I had a bath to soothe my muscles. I deserve rest just because I’m tired not because of results.
In the morning I went for jogging. My body needs freedom to run, to move and be agile.

Berkeley Lovelace Jr. at NBC News:
Millions of Americans risk losing subsidies next year that help them pay for health insurance following President-elect Donald Trump’s election win and Republicans’ victory in the Senate. The subsidies — which expire at the end of 2025 — came out of the 2021 American Rescue Plan, and increased the amount of assistance available to people who want to buy health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. The American Rescue Plan also broadened the number of people eligible for subsidies, extending them to many in the middle class.
The looming expiration date means that the incoming Congress and next president will need to decide whether to extend them — something Trump and Republicans have already signaled they don’t support, said Chris Meekins, a health policy research analyst at the investment firm Raymond James. “If Republicans end up winning the House, in addition to the Senate and White House, having a GOP sweep, I think the odds are less than 5% they get extended,” said Meekins, who was a senior HHS official in Trump’s first term. Even Democratic control of the House likely won’t save the subsidies, he added.  Several important House races have still yet to be decided. As of Thursday afternoon, House Republicans had won 209 seats, just nine short of the majority, according to an NBC News tracker.  In 2024, more than 20 million people got health insurance through the ACA, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Since the 2021 subsidies went into effect, enrollment in ACA plans with reduced payments doubled, particularly in Southern red states, said Cynthia Cox, the director of the program on the ACA at KFF, a nonpartisan health care policy research group.  The Inflation Reduction Act, passed in 2022, extended the subsidies through 2025. In 32 states where data is available, 15.5 million people receive the subsidies, according to KFF. If the subsidies aren’t extended, the Congressional Budget Office — a nonpartisan agency that provides budget and economic information to Congress — estimates that nearly 4 million people will lose their coverage in 2026 because they won’t be able to afford it.  Enrollment will continue to fall each year, with coverage reaching as low as 15.4 million people in 2030.
[...] Cox said she expects Republicans to keep dismantling the ACA, similar to Trump’s first term, when they eliminated the tax penalty linked to the law’s individual mandate, which required people to have health insurance or pay a tax. The mandate is technically still in place, but the penalty was reduced to zero. “If Republicans control the House, the Senate and the presidency, then we might see a repeat of 2017,” she said.  Gostin said eliminating the ACA entirely will be a challenge, even if Republicans control all three chambers.
Millions of Americans could face health insurance coverage loss next year, as subsidies for Obamacare are set to expire.

Truly is a handy tool to be able to get conservatives around me infatuated with the ACA once you walk them thru the revenue generation + the fact that the wheels are not greased by their tax dollars, but Big Insurance foots the bill instead (not really footing a bill if they turn huge profits for it later, but)
The ACA is built for everyone. I have known doctors that are on ACA plans. It is not a shameful thing and it is not indicative of a financial failure to sign up. It is being a smart consumer! It is knowing your options! Sometimes it isn't the best choice for you, but arent you somewhat relieved that it's still there if your other choices fall thru? It's stability and it's something that saves your life and your loved ones lives.
A big reason the ACA is the target of so much misinformation is largely due to the fact that it is the stone that will take down Goliath, and political power is cemented by dodging those stones on campaign trails.
The ACA isn't even enough in my opinion! It's a skeleton to build from. First flaw in US healthcare was pre-existing conditions (risk pools). The ACA can be boiled down to its most base elements as "a for-profit health care model that does not use risk pools" OR "a health care model that becomes less profitable the less sick your customers are"
THIS was the olive branch across aisles in the spirit of maintaining profitability and related capital interests.
The ACA is a springboard for next levels of development like "a health care model that thrives without relying on profit from premiums". Solidify that stage and then build up again! We MUST go in stages to ensure we do not leave people behind or drop people who need us. The ACA is a fucking tank built to carry us all, baby.
And again:
OPEN ENROLLMENT IS ACTIVE RIGHT NOW! 11/1/2024 - 1/15/2025!
There are people waiting to help you sign up!
