Betty/Golbetty is a really dedicated, ruthless and determined person when it comes to saving and protecting people she loves, even as a regular human she does really scary stuff against some powerful beings, all for beloved! I also really like Magicwoman Betty, I like insane yanderes losing their mind over how to save s/o , especially if they were really sweet and caring before all the crazy stuff happened.

Lich is kind of underrated tho, his voice actor really serves, a good villain which would give me god-like yandere villain/human beloved vibes which would be like a pet for Lich. The power difference is tasty, not to mention the size difference. Would wish to extinct all the life in the universe only for you to be all alone with him :P

Simon is not like Betty, even though he totally would do the same as her, sacrifice everything he has only for his s/o, without them he is nothing and pathetic to watch. but I see him as some kind of father figure with fucked up mind. Hates himself for it, thinks he's too old for you, you totally deserve better than someone like him, but not like he is against the idea of you being around him.

Scarab, The Star somehow like Lich, if you are human or just weaker than them, they would treat you as some sort of pet too. Maybe Scarab would taunt you more, calling you pathetic, ugly and disgusting, at the same time he would be the one who bathes you all the time. He thinks he is superior, but actually freak deep inside. But I would give bonus points for the reverse dynamic, s/o who treats Scarab as a bug he is, not caring about him begging for a job as a wishmaster. step on him, squish him like a bug, but he would run to you for more.

Ooo Finn is himbo, funny guy, actually average yandere, but Jake's death really changes his view on life. It's canon that he waits for the day he dies just to see his brother again. I think he would be a really overprotective one, always on your side whenever you go, helping you with whatever you have to do even if it's something simple. I love the idea of the good loyal hero being a little too protective towards their s/o. Most of the time Finn actually can't understand what he is doing wrong, so if you tell them about it, he would laugh it off.

FW Finn is such a cherry. I would pick Ice Finn and adult FW Finn for this. Ice Finn is scary, before he goes crazy, he is a polite and cute young man, but like other crown users, he has a really deep sense of love for the one he loves enough to put that cursed thing on his head just to save them. I see him more like a creepy guy, not like Ice King tho, Ice Finn would be kind of scarier since all those buildings made of frozen people would scare off everyone. He would be a clingy guy seeking human warmth since his body temperature is too low, but don't run away from him or you will add to his frozen collection.

Adult FW Finn are much cooler in both senses, like Ooo Finn he is overprotective, might be even more since Destiny Gang is always around and he can't let his s/o to be killed by them, he already had to lose his wife, so you would be guarded 24/7. Canonically, Finn would totally hear you once you try to leave him, so don't try it. He won't hurt you, but you would lose your privilege to walk.

Minerva just like her son is the one who wants to help people all the time. Even though they don't really want her help. It will be short here, but like I said about Finn before, she is an overprotective one, and her being everywhere literally would make your life a living nightmare since it would be hard as hell to leave her.

I already made headcannons about Fern, so will be short here too. Fern>Finn in yandere behavior, Fern is violent due to grass demon influence, he has low self-esteem, he doesn't think he deserves you since Finn would be much better at protecting you from harm. But his mind is constantly changing, so in the moment of trying to prove himself, he will kidnap or kill whoever stays on his way to get you, not to mention that if you are the person who's in good relationships with Finn, he would not hesitate to take care of Finn and take his place.

Winter King is a weirdo who has too much power. He is affectionate and could mess with the brains of everyone with his charm. Look at him, such a nice and powerful King! How could you not love him, dude?? Money, knowledge, power, love, all he has and he will give it to you. Well, if you are smart enough to see him playing, his mood will turn into a more angry one, showing some traits of the Ice King. So yeah, same old kidnapping Ice King stuff...

For PB&Candy Queen it's obvious, just like Ice Kings, she is a crazy girl, the definition of yandere, but her blender thingie is actually impressive. I don't think she will be all lovey dovey with her s/o, like she could play her songs for you, keeping you trapped, but one day you will be mixed with her together. PB from the vampire world is kind of like a much cooler version of OG PB, I like her character design and how she is portrayed, I just like strong women who would dominate you, that's all.

Can't say much about Hunter, Fionna, PB, Marceline or Phoebe for now. They're kind of chill and too cute, I can't see them doing crazy stuff (for now). For Huntress Wizard, my love, I see her cool and chill too, but this girl would give you some wild presents like when she gave Finn an animal's heart 😭 well, she is a lonely wolf type, kind of don't know what couples are supposed to do and would try to express herself in her own style which would weird you out a little but she still tries!

Peppermint Butler is kind of underrated too, he's a freaking funny guy, no one would actually believe you if you say that this candy guy would do some creepy shit. I mean look at him! Kind of like more the idea where his s/o is some really powerful entity like Death or Vampire King, he would daydream about you, giggling and kicking his feet making weird fanfics about you in his journal~~~

For Uncle Gambald and Patience, I would say they're pretty strong and violent. Don't disobey those two unless you want to die or something, are you stupid?? Patience at least would try to appear like she's actually trying to be good, she wants to know you more and teach some stuff, or tell stories about the past, just don't ignore her. Uncle Gambald is a creep, stay away from him!! He's gonna make you dumb candy citizen too!!

I actually love Prismo so much, but as for yandere he would be really tied up to his work. I mean, he can't do anything with you when you are outside his time room. He is helpless. He can't touch you or feel you like others would, he can't be around you 24/7 like them, he can't give you what most people need from their partners and it is really sad. Of course, he can make you appear in his time room whenever he wants, he can make everything you wish for, hoping that maybe you will stay with him a little longer. I don't think he would appear angry or annoyed by you, he's too sweet and caring. If you want to leave just go, but he would feel like shit without you around, his work is boring as hell, people who came for making a wish are annoying him, his time room is full of garbage. But Prismo's attention focused totally on videos of you from different universes, the only thing keeping him entertained.

the thing about Cyrus is that he's supposed to be likeable. Cyrus Wyvernwind is supposed to be that himbo npc that is funny and charming and gets you attached. I don't know what it is about him but I don't buy it. Not that I think he's faking it. I know he's profoundly stupid.

I just don't think he's charming enough. I don't think hes sweet enough. I don't think he's fun enough to justify everything he put people through.

He shows up, scaring the shit out of Dorian. He's trailing Bells Hells (badly) to the point that everyone was on high alert. THEN he asks for Dorian to separate from the group. While they're on a stake out. While they know someone's trailing them. And Dorian goes, putting everyone even more on edge, and himself in danger. Then he has the audacity to be bitchy about it.

And I don't know if I'm remembering wrong? But he's not even happy to see Dorian? Like he doesn't give him a hug. Hes not stoked to see his brother after so long. Hes defensive and guarded. And Dorian is forced to know that his brother followed in his footsteps, badly, and now has a bounty over his head bigger than anyone's ever seen.

He then proceeds to be the fall guy AGAIN because he was so desperate to prove himself. So desperate to fix his mess himself.

But Cyrus does not seem grateful for everything his brother and his brothers friends have done for him. These are people who could have turned everything around for him. For the bounty, for the connections they had to Hexum. Cyrus could have been a part of Bell's Hells. He could have become another important member to the team. They could have all been family.

He makes a bigger mess of his life and then drags Dorian down with him. He drags Dorian down with him and he doesn't even seem grateful. He seems embarrassed, ashamed, sure.

Instead he was too proud to let his brother help. He was too proud to let his birth family help. He fumbled and failed and he never learned.

Abria said at the top of the Crown Keepers interlude that he was still level six because he never learned a lesson.

And I think that's what gets me about that mother fucker. He allegedly wanted to do this all on his own. He wanted to fix it himself, right? BUT HE NEVER LEARNED. HE NEVER GOT STRONGER.

Dorian and the crown keepers went up seven levels. They kept up with Bell's Hells. That means they were doing dangerous shit to survive because they were on the lamb because of cyrus and he didn't do a damn thing to help. This man didn't even do anything during the heist. He didnt join in at all. Even when they were all 6th level. He was just as capable as the rest in that moment and he didn't do shit.

Then he didn't improve. He didn't get stronger. He didn't do anything remotely helpful for months. When most of this strife started with him.

So now he's dead. After everything Dorian went through to save his life. After everything everyone did for him.

Dorian is adorned in gold and has a weight on his shoulders that should have never been his. He is left with a feeling of failure because he could not save his brother. His brother who did not try to save himself. He could have been such a prize. A prince who came back so much stronger and worldly. To rule as a king well and true and fair because he had seen the world beyond.

So Dorian will return that heir. Because his brother was not fit.

So you and your best friends have loser domains, and Zerus (king of all gods) has just been told by his number one, not at all scammer televangelist disciple to make a tv show to get everyone's attention. so zerus forces everyone to compete (except for a couple volunteers). hyx is a very loosey goosey interpretation of greek/roman mythology. in this world it is the hyxolian mythology. popularity = godly power but having a bad power is about the same as having no popularity. for the comp, everyone is mortal. winner gets new domain, everyone else dies.

notable ros: scammy televangelist guy who zerus likes. his sister, news reporter lady who hates gods. your assistant who is a massive fan of yours and teaches you human stuff. your betrothed, the god of language/translation. your loser bff. the newest demigod, and the humans favourite to win. prodigy god. human lover god. time god.

Option Two: A bar called fortune. Your brother and his best friend (or lover, I haven't decided) are angel harbingers of doom. You and your 7 friends (2 from childhood, 1 your brothers bff's sibling, 1 your academic/sporting rival, and two from after uni) have to band together to stop this. you may have to partner with the demon r, who just killed your bffs girlfriend, to stop them. your future self makes a brief cameo and tells you to kill your bro. war between the supernatural(ghost/vamps/werewolves etc.) and the chorus (angels and demons). everyone hangs out in a bar.

notable ros: motorcycle welding bitchy person. has the murdered gf. goth person. really into the occult. slutty bar owner. himbo/bimbo who's only knowledgeable about bartending. stereotypical nice friend. your brother's best friend's older sibling. your academic rival who doesn't like you.

Option Three: i genuinely can't think of a name. So MC has been hired to work with Dazzler, Switcher and Iron Dragon to take down the organisation that murdered the main superhero league 10 years ago. still need to think of a plot for this.

notable ros: your three colleagues obviously. i was thinking one of them should be poly, but idk who. Dazzler is quiet withdrawn and hates the spotlight, the opposite of their human alter ego. Switcher is a lab experiment gone wrong and works for the gov. Very no nonsense and very tragic. They gain a blue streak in whatever body they inhabit. ID is a cocky flirty celeb, and wishes they were as famous as they used to be. A one way time traveller from ancient asia (probably vietnam.) They literally control a metal dragon.

in order of concept, i thought of the angel/demon story, then the god story then the superhero one so that's why some of the descriptions are a little more bare than the others. feel free to comment! :)

Visions of Mana review

Non-spoilery thoughts:

I really like this game! I was a bit worried about combat from the demo, but I really like the combat in this game, actually. The different weapons all have their own combos and situationally helpful moves (dishing out a lot of damage, attacking in a wide area, launching enemies, staggering them, etc.), so there is quite a bit of satisfaction in learning different fighting styles for each weapon. It almost feels like a fighting game rather than an action/adventure game, which I like.

I feel like this game successfully captures a lot of recurring elements of the Mana series (multiple weapon systems, finding elemental spirits, familiar monsters and bosses, world in decline, simple environmental puzzle-solving) while also being a fresh story and world with its own rules, which is pretty ideal for me. I also think this game does a better job of merging Legend of Mana worldbuilding elements with non-Legend of Mana elements than any other Mana game, and I find that pretty impressive because the aesthetics kind of clash, in my opinion. But they did a good job of merging them here.

The characters are really fun and I like the party dialogues that happen as you go around the world. I think the game could probably use some sidequests or subplots (rather than fairly simple fetch/hunt quests) to flesh out the world a bit and give the story a bit of nonlinearity (it is *quite* linear, although this is pretty normal for the Mana series (LOM aside)...), but I am not complaining. Even though they were fairly simple, I enjoyed the quests here, and they got pretty elaborate in the end.

The progression and gradual unlock of skills that make your characters stronger is also really satisfying. I'm also a big fan of the way that they incorporated a game mechanic (random corestone drops) into the story, and I felt the corestone ability trading added a bit of depth to the gameplay.

Overall, I rate this game like 9/10. It could be better, but there is a lot here to love and the gameplay is pretty polished (game crashes a lot, though -- be sure to save frequently!).

Spoilery thoughts:

My partner keeps joking that Careena is somehow this world's only Texan. (How come her parents have no accent?!)

Magical girl transformation sequences was SUCH a good idea. I approve. (Is there a way to toggle these back on...?)

The tragedy/tragic backstories in this game are exquisite.

At the same time, I really like the humor and cuteness in this game. It's important to have both in a Mana game, I feel.

I wasn't expecting anti-capitalist propaganda in this game, haha.

I like that there's a bit of a nudge in this game about which elemental vessels to assign to which character. Like, Careena's Wind class has pretty nice passives compared to the others and same with Morley's Moon class -- kind of nudges you to start them off with those classes.

It's interesting having Niccolo in this game be such a nice guy. In most games, he's pretty sketchy and self-interested (although he is a pretty great guy in Trials of Mana too). I like that he's Morley's adoptive dad and Palamena's confidante too.

Val is the himbo we all need.

Hinna 😭 They were so ready to be happy together too. I guess Hinna dying this early means she has a reasonable chance of coming back by the end.

SOMEONE high-up in the development team definitely has a foot fetish. But I like seeing Palamena's stylish footwear so I don't mind.

I'm a big fan of Pikuls for land transport and Vuscav for sea transport. Love that we got Vuscav's theme back for this game.

Oh snap I'm in The Lion King right now. XD In general, I was a bit meh about the areas featured in the demo (Rime Falls, Fallow Steppe, and Rhata Harbor), but I've been pretty impressed by the other areas. I liked the Charred Passage, Ledgas Bay, Pritta Ridge, Illystana, Dura Gorge (love the music of this one), Deade Cliffs, and quite a lot of the dungeons.

I like how this game strikes a balance between SOM/TOM-style "there is one of each elemental spirit" and LOM/World of Mana-style "there are many spirits for each element" by having one main elemental spirit but a bunch of mini/lesser elemental spirits with a slightly different design (and they're very cute!).

I like how Khoda looks exactly halfway between Sumo/FFA protagonist and Randi. Well done.

Lol, I thought Aesh was going to be evil. I do like how he occasionally goes into "mad scientist" mode, though. The parts of the game where he has bonding time with the party were some of the best. (His initial introduction was sooo good. When you introduce your friend to your other friends and he's the worrrrst, lol. I like how Morley went from jealous of Aesh to Worried Mother Hen lol.)

Overall, I like the boss battles in this game. I like some of them have a gimmick or puzzle-solving aspect to them, and I like that none of them dragged on too long, which is the main thing I hate about modern action RPGs. The Earth Benevodon battle in particular was a favorite -- epic! Some of the other benevodons sadly went down a bit too quickly (I kind of felt sorry for them having to fight my overleveled party XD).

Okay I guess Hinna isn't coming back. I do like the theme here of it being important to accept the death of loved ones. Ephemeral beauty i.e. things are valuable because they don't last forever. (Ever since my partner pointed out this is an extremely common theme in Japanese art, I am unable to unsee it...)

Some of these late game areas are also really beautiful. *o* I really love the floating island, the Entwine Pass boss battle with all the flowers in the background, and the lighting in the corrupted Mana Sanctuary areas.

Being able to see the previous alm contingents (including Lyza's group!) made me emotional. ;_;

Oh snap, I can't believe Passar was the big bad.

I haven't finished all the postgame content, and I'm not sure if I'll have time. I do eventually want to farm all the abilities and play around with different party setups, and I also want to try playing on Expert difficulty and also with Japanese voices, but we'll see.

Overall, I liked the story! You didn't get Hinna back, but you did manage to fix the world, so there is still that bittersweetness that is important for a Mana game.

Harvest moon Animal parade.

Ok so there's actully a ton of harvest moon games but ANIMAL parrade is the best one. It's PEAK GAME.

Harvest moon AP is like stardew valleys grandma. You play as a farmer who gets a plot of land on a island. And you farm and mine and take care of animals n such. You get to name all your animals if you'd like. And you can ride any in the barn. And I mean any! You want to ride a bull into town or a goat or even an ostrich you CAN! You just need enough friendship and trust with the animal first.

But wait. There's more!. There's a overarching story and a ton of side quests with all of the colorful characters in town and across the island. You have to find and save the harvest goddess and king and bring back all thier fairys so they can help bring back the fertile dirt and fresh clean seas.

You hang out with a fairy named finn the entire game. And only you can see him and he's an amazing goober whom I love and adore always

Harvest moon AP has some amazing bacholors and Bachelorettes! You can even have kids if you really want.

Now I have to admit bit of an L here. You can only date the bacholors if your character is female and the Bachelorettes if your male. (Old 2000s game sadly) so if your like me you gotta do the ol gay kid tried and true and pick the opposite gender.

But dispite that- DUDE. IM SUPRIZED LIKE GENUINLY BEACUSE LOOK AT THESE GUYS

The guys are all tumbler sexyman material. From pretty boys to silly himbos and a monotone WIZARD and the Harvest KING YOU CAN DATE THE GOD!!

Reading "One Piece" for the first time: Part 7 This is more like it, maybe I'm just getting old, but I like that there is more character interplay, interactions and bouncing off of each other, true conflict, not quite merely a rubber idiot roudhouse kicking a nuke into the King of Ferrets or whatever the fuck the author has this week. The Idiot, The Himbo, Meme in Progress and now The Giga Chad and the Brothers Chucklefuck are in a tiny boat looking for the Cartographer with a Brain Cell, who jacked their ship and buggered off whilst they were recruiting the Giga Chad and battling a man made of guns. Now they've arrived at basically Hawaii, which appears to be Nami's village. It's pretty enough, and being ruled over by a hench fishman and his fish man army who are extorting the place, oh and his nose gives Usopp's a run for its money. Knowing this series they'll probably actually do that... Anyway, she's betrayed them all only not really only she has only nobody in the crew seems to believe her. It's endearing, yes, that they all believe that this girl they've known for about 8 minutes would never betray them, but also: guys. Come on. Giga Chad I get: he's horny. But the rest of you? Arlong is the villain here, and I dig him, he's one of the better ones so far. I am surprised at the restraint, again, in having fish people appear but it does raise questions about genetics and the like: do they reproduce with eggs? Is it asexual? Are there fish women somewhere? Oh God.

DO NOT SHOW ME BUSTY FISH WOMEN! THIS SERIES IS HORNY ENOUGH! PLEASE GOD NO! So, they see the palace run by King Scalestorm, and Zoro's first thought is: "I mean, we can take them." Naturally the brothers chucklefuck (Johnny and, the other one) tie him to the mast. Alright, that's a funny joke, series, touche. I appreciate the sense of humour this manga has, but when it swings for the fences emotionally thus far it does seem out of place. Is the cham in the series that it goes to 11 when there are emotions involved? That is the vibe I'm getting.

Meme in Progress Usopp continues to endear himself as my joint favourite guy, by simply strolling into the village and figuring everything out: apparently the houses were all just flipped over and cast aside like they'e kids with fucking Tonka Toys throwing a tantrum. Correctly, he deduces: "Nah mate, I ain't going NEAR that." See Usopp, you and me can hang. Like, you're a person, with identifiable normal feelings, you're a justifiably ordinary guy in this universe of mavericks and people who punch God in the face on their way to buy bread and splitting the Earth open with a wave of their hand. He meets a grouchy seeming lady, and a boy she's yelling at for trying to get himself killed in the path of revenge against Arlong, and he's an endearing little scamp by standing up for the kid. Good Guy Usopp. I like you, you're one of the few characters here I'd actually just hang out with like a normal person. Arlong has corrupt cops (sorry, cops) under his payroll and basically does what he pleases. A good villain here, he's what a pirate is: and I like the whole eugenicist bully angle. What's the bet that that never comes back as the author gets bored and moves onto, oh I don't know, fucking cockroach tanks piloted by cyborgs or something. Nami is attempting to get a shed load of money to buy her village out from under his thrall. Conflict! Nice! It's a cool thing where Zoro just attempts to kill himself to test if Nami is actually evil enough to let him die, and true to form she dives in to save him, though more likely was the fact that she was attempting to stop him from murdering the water. The insanity is kept relatively tame here, which is my kind of jam: I HATE people who recommend stuf with "oh it's mental, you'll love it!" Like, no, I need contrast to the insanity, it needs to build, it needs to balance, it needs to let release tension and steam. It needs plotting and pacing and character and growth. It's why I'm never playing that fucking piece of shit "Exalted", stop recommending it to me, Tobin and Sam, fuck! Anyway. The Idiot is, thankfully, out of the way for most of this, chilling on his boat and napping, but unfortunately he has Giga Chad with him, so we have less Giga Chad this chapter. But that is fine, as we get more of the nonsense of the crew and a villain I actually like. My friend who got me into this, however, also raises a good point: if there are fish men, what is sea food? Are they eating the young of the fish people? Because I am team Arlong if that is the case. It's nice to have this character development, and some stuff for Cartographer with a Brain Cell to do, even if none of them buy her "betrayal" for an instant - but that fake stabbing of Meme in Progress was pretty cool, good job guys! And it ties into this desperation and world building in the village - people left at the mercy of criminal gangs because cops won't help, as 1. They are cops. 2. There are dudes who can tear apart the skies with a yodel, or whatever fucking bullshit super power the author has pulled out of his ass this week Good job, world and character and stuff. So anyway. The Himbo takes out a palace of dudes all by himself, and the Giga Chad kicks the ocean so hard that his boat fucking flies. THERE we go. I was starting to think you'd lost your touch, old boy. So now Johnny and the other one have legged it, and the Idiot is napping rather than fighting. I for one appreciate it, it has been a tad dull with him doing stuff. Also I think Sanji wants to fuck a mermaid, and Nami. And Nami AS a mermaid. Follow your dreams, bro. They are going to square off with fish mafia man, and try to save this village. So knowing these guys that means they will befriend the fish man and destroy the place.

Regal Bloodsucker

Official name for GranDracmon!Kafka AU as the idea won't leave me alone. It's holding my ass at gunpoint to conjure the most insane shit possible so I'm gonna deliver. The first being the timeline of sorts.

I decided to refresh my brain a bit on major pre-canon events. One thing being when No.6 attacked which was 10 years ago. At most, Kafka would've been 22-23 at the time while Kikoru is 8-9. (Important detail for me to fix the young Shinomiya's age for the Ghost AU.)

I'm highly tempted to have Kafka come into his eldritch heritage at 21 instead of 28. Why? To up the Defense Force's blood pressure even higher by having him fight and kill Kaiju No.6. Although I would have to change somethings first.

No.6 is a known danger to the Defense Force as they been steadily monitoring this particular monster's movements. The catalyst for the fateful catastrophic attack is a territorial dispute with the newly emerged Kaiju No.7. It kills the offender but the rage set off wasn't ready to ebb away until more blood is shed thus the attack on the city.

Any other situation, Kafka would've been in a shelter with everyone else. However since he has power here... The Defense Force gets unexpected help from the mythic 'Vampire King'. For those who don't know much about Digimon, GranDracmon is a very powerful Demon Beast type Digimon. I'm talking stronger than the series equivalent to the demons who represent the 7 Deadly Sins.

The fight between Kafka and No.6 was very ugly but there were a lot less casualties that day. However this feat had major consequences for him in return. Kafka is the most wanted by the Defense Force as he essentially became 'King of the Monsters' for killing the previous one aka 6.

Second is he been harshly weakened from his injuries. A few Defense Force officers decided to use the reflective nature of No.6's ice to increase the effectiveness of their light cannons against Kafka during the battle. This has left burnt patches across his body specifically the hind legs, left shark head's maw, right upper chest, upper back, right side of his chin to the neck down and left wing. (He retains those upper body scars in human form.)

Weak spots that allow others to harm Kafka in monster form without needing concentrated light. It also lessened his time in human form since it will take years for this side to recover. Finally there's the public opinion of him. Everyone is split 50/50 on what they think about the Vampire King. Some see him as a guardian while other believe he's a gigantic threat.

Even the Defense Force wasn't left unscathed since one of the lives Kafka saved that day is Hikari Shinomiya. The attack left her wheelchair bound, her spine took serious damage, so she can no longer fight. Hikari is one of the main advocates who want Kafka to be taken alive. She fully believes he fought No.6 to protect people than a territorial dispute like others claim.

You can say Tiny didn't make Kafka's situation any better either. He can't join the Defense Force as one of the changes caused by his hybridization is his human form's blood became a musty orange. Something our himbo wasn't happy to discover upon cutting himself the next day.

Another change is a 8 ft tall bipedal hybrid form of his GranDracmon heritage. It isn't as strong like the full form with the best fortitude estimate being around 6.4. Kafka can raise to a 9.8 by drinking kaiju blood so he usually keeps a vial on him.

Between the Defense Force, the 3rd Division aim to capture Vampire King while the 1st rather kill him on sight. Kafka will become a vigilante as it's the only path left to fulfill his promise to Mina. He shall fight by her side but in the form of a monster than man.

Costume Cdramas I watched in 2023

My 2nd year with Chinese dramas as my love for costume drama continues.

The Blood of Youth (40 x 45min, filming started in Oct 2021, released Dec 2022) fun action drama with a good dose of comedy, not for people who want lots of romance because they are too busy (and the canon couples don't have enough chemistry, there I said it) to be making out. Good for bromance, ghost ships and/or ace character head canons. Xiao Se's fur collar wins fur collar of the year, Tang Lian is my blorbo of early 2023.

My Uncanny Destiny (24 x 30min, filmed in autumn 2021, released Jan 2023) My favorite comedy of the year. Don't get turned off by the toilet jokes, it's a gem that spoofs drama tropes, gives you a coherent plot, silliness, fun side characters, a ML that is not afraid of being silly and a FL that plays capable and silly well. This might be a low budget production but they put that money to work. Politics, cross-dressing, found family, sisterhood, enemies to lovers, third wheel bisexual who reminds me of Wen Kexing, over the top villain, himbo villain who works out shirtless all the time, it got it all.

Wulin Heroes (22 x 45min, filming started Nov 2020, released Jan 2023) I watched this for Li Hongyi and he is incredibly beautiful in this so props to his stylist and cinematographer. BUT it is a badly written and edited low budget romp. If you are not watching for any actor then do not bother. FL is bearable once you realize she is very much of a lets see where this goes kind of character. 2nd ML is a suffering captive prince turned whiny regent played by Zhu Zanjin. So if you want to see Jin GuangYao suffer, you might like his scenes?? It can totally be read as a throuple especially with the New Tales of Wulin Heroes mini series add on. The choppiness might also be a result of the dangai ban??

No Doubt in us (24 x 14min, 2021, donghua) saw this on netflix and it roped me in with the body switch trope. It's sufficiently entertaining. Though I didn't enjoy the animation style apart from the chibi scenes.)

Heaven Official's Blessing (season 1, 11 x 26min, 2020, Donghua) It's THAT story and the art style is so pretty. I haven't read the books yet but still got what was going on most of the time. Liked it a lot. Haven't watched the 2nd season yet)

The Journey of Chong Zi (40 x 45min, filming started in June 2021, released Feb 2023) This xianxia is a mess! But it gave Scorpion King Li Daikun another memorable role with being the FL's protector. Watching Wang Zhoucheng having a ball with his role was fun. Immortal turned demon Wan Jie is so handsome and tragic. It did draw me in but the main couple is just ick so every time they were apart it immediately got better. ML's refusal to take the antidote to ease his obsession was lmao, FL is naive but charming and her demon styling rocks (do not get the hate on the actress, she is selfmade and there are many bad pretty face actresses around but I guess antis attract antis). Oh and there is a bromance between two of Chong Zi's harem members

Till the End of the Moon (40 x 55min, started filming in Nov 2021, released April 2023) aka my brain rot drama of the year. Drawn in from episode 1 on. Bai Li and Luo Yunxi <3 Pian Ran, Ye Qingyu, Nian Baiyu and Si Ying. <3 I was spamming tumblr with my screenshots, it was a jolly good time to watch this epic tale of love and suffering and saving the world dilemma with a great cast, characters, costumes, sets and soundtrack with the cdrama ppl of tumblr. If this weren't too complicated for cdrama newbies I'd recommend it to all my friends. Do not skip the dream arc (I ended up liking it) or later stuff will make less sense. I'm still annoyed that we didn't get a good extra episode that wraps up some lose ends for the main side characters and that reunion of the main characters but Youku really went nah we better play it safe with censors not liking happy ends for morally grey characters.

My Queen (24 x 45min, filmed in 2020, released Jul 2021) An FL enters a romance adventure VR game drama that I watched because I needed some fluff between TtEotM episodes. Why pick this among any other sufficiently entertaining dramas that are probably better written and not as forgetable? Because I wanted to watch Hu Wei (rich nepo baby in The Blood of Youth) in another comedy role >_> and ridiculous overacting he did deliver

The Trust (30 x 45min, filmed early 2021, released Apr 2023) The life action adaptation of the manhua No doubt in us is based on. I dunno why I finished this, I guess I'm not a quitter and needed silly stuff to balance TtEotM angst. For some reason the director thought it would be a good idea to film this like a donghua and it is causing 2nd hand embarrassment. The ML cannot pull off being a woman in a man's body, not even a martial arts nerd like Xu Yu. Like Wulin Heroes it was filmed before the dangai ban but that didn't stop them from having at least two bromances.

Wanru's Journey (24 x 35min, filming started in Jun 2021, released May 2023) A mess. So IQIYI released this simply to ride on the wave of Ao Ruipeng's The Blood of Youth popularity. Because this got so chopped down because of the dangai ban and it probably wasn't good to begin with. Basically an actress transmigrates into a dangai screenplay and gets between the leads while also making money by writing fic about them (ok this is my reading but she DID release fic and drawings of them). Of course it takes an unnecessarily dramatic turn, instead of staying on the comedy side, cannot remember more of the plot, oops.

King is not Easy (20ep x 30min, released Aug 2017) I watched this for the body switch trope and Bai Lu. Nice to see her actual face before the fair skin filter got her, entertaining enough, badly written silly comedy with mind mindbogglingly contrived final 4 episodes. It's Bai Lu's drama debut so it's nice to see how far she got

Destined (40ep x 45min, filming started in Jun 2022, released June 2023) Highly enjoyable. Fell in love with Bai Jingting. What's not to love about a playboy getting put on his path by his wife and them becoming friends, sworn siblings and then lovers in the process? No this is actually about FL finding her thing (trade) and being wildly successful at it, then it's also political, revenge and more. The leads are extremely charming and have great chemistry (the drama suffers every time they are apart lbr) and the writing is good, though people are too perfect and I wasn't into the whole palace stuff.

My Journey to You (24 ep x 60min, filming started Dec 2022, released Sep 2023) Had me from episode 1 on. Made me buy IQIYI VIP so I can watch it in good quality. Fell in love with Zhang Linghe. Yu Shuxin needs to do all the wuxia while she is still fit. Why waste being able to do the splits on some modern drama? The director sent her mud wrestling and she went for it. Everyone knows she is pretty no need for her to be beautifully put together on screen 24/7. Love the style, the character introductions, the characters, the cast, the chemistry, the story, the way you expect something and something else is going on. While it started out gloomy and remained so for the most part, it surprised me with throwing in more comedy than I expected. The good old idle manchild gets thrown into a position of power story but it's a murderous martial arts clan against another murderous martial arts clan. It's giving you some information but often just enough for getting what's going on just to play with your expectations later, FUN! And I didn't even mention all the other characters because surprise! this is actually an ensemble drama with several intriguing characters. Do not expect for the two leads to be on screen all the time.

Hilarious Family (24ep x 45min, started filming in June 2022 (?), released Sept 2023) A fun ensemble comedy I watched for Jackie Li. A widow moves to another city to marry off her 4 daughters (a silly man-crazy one, a homely one, a scholar one and a tomboy one). No it's not Pride and Prejudice but yes of course this is a romcom and all women have a love interest. It kind of drops off later on tbh, but still good for the characters and side characters. The success of this in China hopefully means that Jackie Li will get to be getting more comedies to work in after the Queen Lau disaster and people having a problem with her artist alias in 2022.

Hello There (20ep x 30min, released Jan 2023) I stumbled on this on IQIYI while looking for a light fast watch that will let my brain relax. The ML's best acting moment is when he plays a wooden robot. FL is fun. There are some questionable scenes, standard low budget action comedy fare.

An Ancient Love Song (14ep x 30 min, released June 2023) A wonderfully written and executed grown up time traveling story, that shows once again that you don't need a big budget to tell a story that draws you in. Ended my palace politics blockade. All this time traveling and no reincarnation in sight. ;_;

Story of Kunning Palace (38ep x 45min, filming started in May 2022, released Nov 2023) Tieing 2nd with My Journey to You for brainrot drama of the year. The cinematography is questionable, the story is not for teaching perfect courting behavior but those two are just such a good cp in their awkward messy way. Their friends/sidekicks are fun too and bring some comedy to that story though crazy in love ML is serving some comedy too. Props to ZLH for actually trying to grasp the basics of playing qin and not just waving over the strings like other dramas deem it sufficient. Bai Lu is Bai Lu-ing, gathering her harem. Coming into this right after An Ancient Love Song the idea to defeat destiny this time around seemed hopeless to me but this is one of those they are good at making plans and they turn out mostly alright dramas. I hope those two's material for the next years is as good as the two dramas with them I watched in 2023, fingers crossed!

Currently watching: A Journey to Love and Taoism Grandmaster as well as 2/3 through a LbFaD rewatch that I started in summer.

I also watched a handful of modern dramas (made in Korea and Japan) and some mini-dramas, but that is for another post.

And yes my most watched actors are probably those uncles stuck in Hengdian, might look that up another day.

THE LYREBIRD KING, MY BABY, MY BELOVED is my original novel. the idea came from a d&d character of mine - Caius - who helped me realize i was genderfluid. he got stuck in my head a long time after the campaign ended (sadly we just all got busy) so i decided to tweak things for my own fantasy world and build even further on his backstory.

Caius is your typical prickly (Arcane Trickster) rogue, refusing to let people get too close and adopting an air of defiance. he has a personal vendetta against the upper echelon but doesn't offer an explanation as to why willingly. Aries is seemingly everyone's favorite himbo, built like a brick shithouse with a heart of gold. after a one night stand with Caius, which had originally been just so Caius could pry information from him, he became enamored with the rogue and sought him out to start an alliance. after Aries shelters a street urchin injured by the royal guard Caius makes the decision to create a society within their hideout - an ancient waterway beneath overgrown ruins - to house those cast out by society. an array of colorful people join them, creating what is almost a small city beneath the ruins. prompted by a teasing Aries (who at this point is hopelessly in love) the people call Caius 'The Underworld King' - which he absolutely hates

god i haven't worked on One More Time in forever but basically it's a canon divergence where Yok dies of the gunshot wound in the scrapyard (or whatever that place was) and Gumpa (in unrequited love with Yok) blames himself so badly he finds himself in a timeloop to save Yok's life, but each loops seems to threaten to bring his feelings to light

it's uploaded here on AO3 - One More Time - and here's a little unpublished tidbit i have in my notes for the future ~ (i'm terrible at writing sex scenes and tend to avoid them for that reason so forgive me)

“Are you trying to tease me?” He warned against the marks left in his wake, the impressions of his teeth and his devotion.  “No.” He could hear the smile in Yok’s voice, in the low and playful tone, and Gumpa couldn’t help but bury his smile against his shoulder. Burning alive in the glow of the sun felt like euphoria, like every little thing he’d done in his life, in every unraveled thread of infinite timelines, had led to this moment. His fingers moved to Yok’s zipper, dragging it down and the buzzing sound of the releasing teeth was lost to Yok’s gentle laughter against his ear, pure and ephemeral.  Slowly, he loosened his hold only to slide Yok’s jeans and underwear down his hips. He followed their trajectory until his face was level with the dark tattoo against Yok's ribs. He peered up through his fringe, capturing Yok’s gaze as he pressed wet, sucking kisses to the mark. He immediately missed the molten heat of Yok’s gaze when he closed his eyes and it had him purring a command as he drifted his kisses lower.  “Keep your eyes on me. That’s my good boy.”
