Greetings of the Day. ( Planet of the Apes Imagines. )
We are soft here don't look @ me them greeting you for the first time that day kill me Characters Included Below: Caesar, Noa, Blue Eyes, Anaya, Koba. Warnings: Sexual implications below. If you are not comfortable with that, please do not read. It is not full on NSFW but there are mentions of Ape Mating/Nudity. Thank you.
Caesar always saved you a spot for the communal meals he partook in with the Colony. High above the rest, it towered like a bird's nest; the perch where he was waiting for you. It was important, the aspect of eating together, it was important that the Apes saw him, it was a great responsibility that his confidence aired at the state his people were in. Free, imbued with purpose beyond cages and building themselves the lives they deserved after the Simian Flu ravaged and gave them incredible intellect while killing most of the Human Population.
Most... Caesar watched with bated interest as you came into view, your gait shy and feet placing them carefully against the slick rock as a bid to get your balance to not fail you. Amusement rested in the diaphragm of the Ape as you greeted with a small smile first, always was the case and it was so ingrained in Caesar that he at times forgot that it was an innate and affectionate human aspect you carried towards him. He liked it regardless, returning to you a small huff of happiness at your arrival.
Always, a smile and always shoulders tugging into themselves as it usually was around the Chimp but even more so as he had been quick out of the nest this morning and felt a shatter of guilt at the fact that this was the first time you had seen each other the entire day. Your scent wrapped the Ape into the most intoxicating state so that he knew what your interests were as your waft was sent briskly at him, wistfully it was lost to everyone but Caesar. With a hard swallow, the King could see you out of his peripheral. Careful as to not impose on his status, as if there was really care that was needed.
Your fingertips brushing against his fur lined shoulder ghosting and giving a tease of more to come if he wanted it later, causing the bristled hairs to stand on end as a result. Caesar drew a deep breath in and scooted a wickered bowl with the knuckles of his left hand your way as you sat cross-legged. Silent offering of the meal he saved for you, knowing what you loved to eat. It bounced against your kneecap as he brought his hand upwards, fingers of his left hand trudging themselves into the hair at the back of your head and dragging you willingly to kiss foreheads.
Quiet and languid, in front of the entire Colony it felt like your breath stopped at the look of Caesar’s face getting so close to you in such a public setting, mouth parting to protest but there was nothing that came to fruition. Caesar… was sure in his choice of mate, all deserved to see that as your eyelids fluttered shut and you accepted the form of greeting and attractive possessiveness by pressing your forehead back against his own.
Around the edges of his calloused touch as he tugged you even further into him was a small apology for leaving you before dawn, for not making the time to spend with you during the day. Lightly, a hand was placed on his thigh, squeezing at the thickened muscles and convoluted a sense of familiar desire that dripped its rampant torture down his muscle encrusted chest, downwards to his pelvic and then to rest heatedly where your hand was resting.
Caesar looked down at it and nodded to himself against your forehead. You accepted his apology and as reluctant as he is to pull away, he does just that as you bless him with a blushed grin, eyes now focusing on the bowl he had saved for you. "Busy day?"
The Ape King was not big into small talk, you knew that. Thick fingertips grasped at a delicately small blueberry and you found it engaging enough to see it placing itself into his mouth with a withdrawn gaze towards his glassy gaze the moment he chomped down on it and you were able to hear the muffled crunch. Caesar would rather dally in convoluted silence or drag you to the seclusion of the nest for more.
But... The draw of your voice urged him as he began to talk about the intricacies of what had happened from the time he rose to the time he was brought back to your side, where he felt he belonged as you still had your hand on his thigh, drawing yourself the few inches that rested between you so you were properly allotted, shoulder to shoulder, to make up for the lost hours of the day.
Noa can oftentimes smell you before you come into view as so was the case when you arrived at the Eagle Enclosure in the mornings to come fetch him for the morning meal otherwise in his obsessive nature, he'd forget to eat and continue to work, never taking a moment for himself for how could he when there was so much to do? This particular morning, he's able to captivate himself in the drench of your sweet musk coming up the winded walkway, so cornered and catered to Noa's personal preferences that he wanted nothing more than to dig his face into your neck and drink it up. Noa would, given the chance. Over and over again, as long as you would let him.
'Are you ready?' You sign at him with a smile that always rides the dawn into affection and adoration for your mate.
'Anaya, Soona... Waiting. Anaya is very hungry today.' There was a motion towards your stomach that was incredible and affectionately Echo as you rubbed your own stomach in a quip to hunger. Noa raised his shoulder at that and gave you a few huffed hoots, shaking his head ardently at the notion that Anaya refused to eat unless around those most important to him.
Drilling into a small silence, Noa’s glance scooted towards your shape to admire the way that you laughed so sleepily, still stuck half way between the notion that the nest was more inviting than going to the meal that was cusping with the sun that was rising against the landscape.
Your jugular bounced for him, and only him… Noa stifled himself at that; never in the morning times were his thoughts were so torn. Only in the nest, he reminded himself, privately. Echo’s liked… Privacy…. Not the Eagle Enclosure… Not… Why were you looking at him with those hooded eyes? Your feet drawing themselves into the room slowly to pet Eagle Sun who had been staring at you with his small beady and attention-seeking gaze.
You watched, bated over your shoulder as Noa broad form took off the last of the Eagle sleeping masks with his skilled fingers, drawing your bottom lip in as he lightly rested it down on his work bench, scattered with many items that he was either working to improve, or was analyzing how they worked. "Yes, ready…." He was hushed, the strong movements of his body catapulting your still sleepy mind into a fit of happiness as he trailed from one end of the room towards you near the entryway.
"Having a good morning?" Equally hush, you felt a small gasp hit the back of your throat at his long and well-built arm encasing your waist and tugging you forward without reserve. Your chest crushed against his own as you carded a hand into his shoulder for leverage. There was the concentrations you needed to confirm the attraction as you could see the shift of Noa's eyes under his strong brow line tracing the top of your breasts against the muscular nature of his pectorals and felt a shudder lick down your spine. So that's what he wanted.
Two could play at that game.
"You were out of the nest before I was awake..." Infliction was known, intentions coming to the forefront that had Noa not left so early, there would have been more in store for him. He growled deeply in his chest at that, stupid Noa... Stupid, stupid.... Noa assented his response with a nod, green gaze falling shut as your head was cupped between his two commandeering palms and he drew his primal scruff inwards to let his brow ridge ride against yours teasingly. Barely a grazing of the Apes leathered skin against your eyebrows which brought a tilted grin to your cheeks and then more ardently, Noa possessed your forehead against his own. Mine, the action said and you mimicked the possession by dragging your hand against the grain of his fur to grasp at the base of his thick neck and pulling the fur into a tight ball between your fingers.
"Anaya..." Noa muttered, following the movement as you were pulling at his coat, your irises dilating at the visual of his canines so close to your face; a call back to the position you held yourself in the night before, "Can wait... Need... Morning... encouragement."
The placement of the last word left you tilting your head back in laughter as Noa quite literally picked you up into his arms and swept to place you on his work bench, some of the items cluttering behind you as there was nothing else he wanted to be obsessed with now. The shift of his touch cupping the underside of your thighs before you made contact with the wood tabletop left you tilting your head backwards in a hazed motion, circular to showcase the beating of your heart against the very thin pores of your jugular. "Hm... Don't think he's going to like that." Muttering teasingly, you drew your arms around his neck fully once more and brought Noa's handsome features closer for your own guilty pleasure. Careful, you smirked at him and dragged your forehead against his own once more, this time with an open mouth that teased his very name at the end of your tongue.
"Anaya...is just jealous..." Your smirk turned smug at the broad Chimps choice of phrasing, a tug of a gasp gripped around your tightening throat as Noa pressed his face into your jugular, feeling the beating of the muscle contracting as he bared his teeth playfully for you, one small nip being placed right as your heart began to speed up at the Echo body language he was expressing; taught to him by yours truly, eyes fluttering shut out of reflex and trust.
"Noa," He whispered in a deeply setting baritone, confident in that placement, against the shell of your ear, breath suddenly hot and heady against your sweat-prone skin, "Has Echo... all to himself... For a morning meal."
Blue Eyes considered himself a very early riser, usually before the day break and used that alone time to sit in introspection of the feelings he cased around inside, all things about you and about how you made his inside feel twisted.
The knowledge was all encompassing to the Ape, that you two were a mated pair and he felt good about that, glancing back at the nest that you were currently tangled in, the drawing of your breath evident in the rising and falling of the animal hide that coated you. The Prince placed that on you when he left your side, knowing you'd wake up and complain that you were cold. He knew that you were naked, bare for him and only him under the pelt and Blue Eyes felt his fur rising at the idea that he… Was allowed to press his hardened form against yours at any moment. Pensively, he peered out the entryway of the home he made with you, admiring the singing of the birds in the distance as they must have sensed the impending sun that was rising across the land. The glow around the trees was another indication, an azure stare looking at the leaves shift with a minor breeze.
A rush of movement that was not the air, Blue Eyes tilted his head at the crackling behind him and figured quickly that you're just shifting into a more comfortable position but then his acute hearing captures the sound of your feet pattering against the wood flooring. Turning his face, Blue Eyes is able to see you stepping carefully, to see the sleepy gait of your shoulders that leaves him huffing in amusement that you dragged the animal hide with you as it scooted behind you.
'Should stay in nest.' He signed at you, suddenly displaced by your wonderful appearance of tousled hair and droopy gaze. Ignorance was only bliss at times, sometimes it was sinful as Blue Eyes looked between the slit of the animal pelt and stiffened at the appearance of your exposing naked form.
Nearly full frontal, he could brisk his glance against your sternum, captivated in part by the breasts he knew were hiding just beyond his line of vision. Down the delicate and soft nature of your stomach, belly button… The tuft of pubic hair, Blue Eyes lingering there at the prospect of just sweeping you up and taking you back in full to the nest with carnal inflictions. You had no shame in showing him what was already so well known to Blue Eyes’ hands and hips, his shuffle indicative of the rising thoughts he tried to keep down as he argued only half-heartedly as you made your approach towards him, 'Warm there.' "Warm here." You muttered, gently placing your body beside his and wrapping half of the animal pelt around his shoulder even though you knew his fur was more than enough to substantiate during the chill of the morning. Blue Eyes swallowed hard at the waft of your scent, driving his senses into overdrive as he shifted his body to accommodate yours as you jilted against his side, breasts pushing themselves together, he was catapulted into a fluttering state of morning-filled ecstasy. "Hmmm..."
"Falling... back asleep?" Blue Eyes uttered in his deep baritone having noted that your eyes were slipping up and down, lulling at the tone of his voice that always left you dripping into what felt like a lake made of slackened honey. So yummy around the edges to indulge in that you were willing to drown yourself to see what was at the bottom.
"Nooo..." You flash him a sleepy grin and nuzzled further into his side, taking in the musky scent that clung to his fur with a desperation to coat your bare flesh with the same scent. Ash from the bonfire the night before, the redwoods that towered happily outside the Colony and the brisked nature of moisture against the pillars of a cliffside.
Blue Eyes just stared down at you curiously, your hair pressing to the young Apes face as he drew his mouth to close. Lightly, he tucked his muzzle into the crown of your head, letting his chin rest against your skull as he felt your breathing shift to shallow.
You were falling back asleep, he knew that as the Prince tucked an arm around you to keep you close to his side, relishing in how your curved body felt under the rough oval pads of his fingertips, yearning always for that bit of contact but at times too shy to ask in fear of rejection that always cusped at the back of his mind like a smothering hand despite being sturdy in his knowledge that despite Blue Eyes having chose you, the action was mutual and you... Choose him.
Blue Eyes would carry you back to the nest in a few minutes though... When he finally got himself calmed down enough from garnering your nude and sleepy attention.
Anaya can feel your body shifting next to his own as your teetering in and out of the deeply embedded throes of sleep. A disgruntled groan hits the outside of your eardrums which you respond back to with your own; the digression coming from the lack of desire to wake up fully and face the day.
Anaya… Would rather stay in bed, as evident from the way that his proportionally shorter legs tangle themselves into knots around your kneecaps and his dexterous feet and toes were tickling around your calves to beg you to stop moving, pining to keep you as close to him as possible as his thinned waist drifted upwards a bit before falling back down, more deliciously angled towards your heated body to cater to the desire to have you near to him, solidifying with body language alone that you were not allowed to be torn away from Anaya’s side at this time. The action itself was the Chimps safety measure to keep you near to him during the night for the Ape found security in that, but now?
It was being used against you to stop the prospect that you needed to wake up and leave him alone in the nest. Come closer, his warmth told you as it radiated from the very tips of his darkened fur that would only seep into highlighted colors once the sun was falling against him, drenching in the day that was not yet being accepted by either of you. Your eyes, flushed with the first morning light that seeped into the nested area you made together, you groaned softly once more and moved towards him as a reaction to his own muscles tearing against yours, burrowing your face into his neck and dripping into the fur coat without a seconds worth of hesitation.
Anaya gratefully accepted the movement and grind you gifted against him, stifling himself a low sitting groan from deep in the back of his throat out of incredible comfort and you can feel the pull of his long arms around your entire form, informing around your smoothed shoulder blades, tugging at the skin that the pads of his fingers are pressing ovals into, drudging you flushed against the taut outer muscles of his body without reserve and without much strength needed as it was apparent from the rise and fall of his chest that he was still half asleep and it was lulling you back into the slumbers of dreams as well.
Every breath, your eyelids falling shut slowly, the attempt to fight off rest being too great when the Chimp was so delectably smooshed against you with the warmth of his coat tickling at the outer edges of your hazed mind and you felt yourself drifting as Anaya’s hold on you loosened. He trudged back to a full sleep without hesitation, the small drifting air from his mouth tickling at the top of your head as he rested his chin against the crown of your skull. Like a childhood toy was how you were being held and you wanted it no other way. “Need… to get up soon…” You grumbled lazily and yawned against his muscular neck, getting yourself a tasteful mouthful of his fur which in your crazed sleep-driven mind, felt good against your tongue as you lapped at it slowly before drawing it into a pinched kiss that coated the outside of his fur in your saliva. If he were allowed to mark you with his scent, you were allowed to do the same.
Anaya twitched in response to action and the softened nature of your voice in the air, dreamlike in infliction and his mouth tugged into a minor grin as Anaya imagined you whispering more than just that for his laden mind. “Noa and Soona… Fishing… hm….” “Can go on without us.” Anaya offered, rolling his body weight onto yours which you gratefully accepted and wrapped your arms around his broad shoulders, carding into the fur that enclosed the ripple of muscles that lay beneath; never quite as noticeable with him as with Noa, but they were hard to ignore when you were able to ardently touch them with selfish intent. “Anaya is… not ready… to wake… Echo needs to go back… to sleep too…” Fluttering your eyes shut, you can feel his hot breath casing against the skin of your neck as that’s where the Ape chose to press his face into, his muscular form crunching at you in all the best ways as the hands you hand on him tenderly stroked his shoulder blades and then upwards towards his neck. “But---”
The smile that spread across your face was nothing short of drowsy, trying to yawn but getting your chest crushed by Anaya’s was a better option as you hear him mutter fluttering into your hair. “Back… to sleep.”
Koba never takes in the solace of actually greeting you face to face in the mornings. It’s surely something you’ve come to terms with, given your precarious position in the Colony regardless as your eyes swept across the communal aspect of the morning meal. The blaze of the fire in front of you was always enough to scatter heat against your skin, especially your face that was exposed to the air that drifted inland from the ocean. Bitter and salty it was on your tongue as your gaze was determined.
Never searching for anyone in particular, you thought to yourself and tried to convince your mind of its pull towards the other direction, never wanting to see the Bonobo who struck an odd chord in your mind that was as relentless as gravity at times. Fingers twitched against the wicker bowl in your lap, taking in the way that one of the small twitches of a branch had been cut off roughly and you played it against the delicate nature of your finger print. Koba… would tear them right off with his teeth, you knew and found some sickening curiosity at what it must have felt like as you grazed your finger a bit harder.
Koba would eat your fingerprints off happily, grinning with blood between his canines, just to take away what little semblance of Humanity you had left and it was hard to dismiss the rolling cascade that you had to admitted seek for him first thing in the mornings now because it became alluring to captivate the dance of aggravated assault on his part and mutually exclusive attraction without cause from your side. Guilty as sin, was the Human phrase and if you ever uttered that to the shattering nature of the Bonobo, you were sure that you’d be scalped for it.
Giving up always seemed the better option as you looked down at your bowl rather than really coming to terms that you wanted more with him, nothing but a few plucked berries and a sliver of elk meat, enough to sustain until the afternoon rolled around and you felt the craving for something more substantial. Tugging at your jacket zipper anxiously, the feeling in the pit of your stomach felt odd, you tilted your head and tried to ignore the feeling but it kept rearing its head to the forefront. You were unable to detect the unmistakable gait; the tearing of muscles that seemed to appear to eat themselves alive, the slanted jaw, the fixed hatred in his gaze whenever he looked at you.
There was no way that what you were feeling was… Worry, right? Why would you feel that, scanning the area once more. The Bonobo was able to care for himself, he didn't need the pity from you that you were worried something might have happened to him and that’s why he was so late to the morning meal.Nah, you shook your head to yourself and picked at the blueberry in your bowl, dragging it around with your pointer finger. Around and around it went, making you feel a semblance of dizziness before there was chatter high above.
The perch of the council, you recognized in your brief time of staying with the Colony. Caesar, Rocket, Cornelia, Maurice, Blue Eyes… All chattered a greeting to each other, the casing of their voices all familiar to you now.
Peering over your shoulder, your felt your mouth tickle at the polyester fibers from your jacket and you lightly kissed the fabric at the last Ape to finally join the congregation above. Koba himself; his thigh muscles even from this distance distinctive enough to see the tendons from the thinned fur that coated parts of his body. Strong, your mind weakened itself in its state of minored empathy you had towards him as he flickered his eyes aggressively towards you.
Stiffening, you felt the tickling at the back of your throat that threatened to release into a strangled gasp of sorts at the intensity of how his one good iris dilated upon meeting your own, the other milky; fingers twitched against the berry you had been teasing as you wanted nothing more in the moment than to feel your touch against the light pink and white scar that supplemented the darkened skin on striking and disgust torn features.
Contact was always brief, you needed to remind yourself once disappointment trickled in and felt the breath at the back of your throat explode into a gasp of the smallest degree, subdued as your conscious mind told you to do just that. There was now condensation against the shoulder of your jacket, against the fibers that were torn to shreds with age but fitted you well enough to keep using.
From the worn boots on your feet, all the way to the frizzled nature of your hair from the moisture clinging in the air Koba stared, his face contorted into the aggressive wrinkles around his nose and between the bridge of the nose you wanted to trace instead of the berry in your bowl. A snarl was sent your way as per usual; something only reserved for your human nature amongst the Apes and in return?
Maybe Koba could see the smile from behind the puff of your jacket as you longed to see more of him, maybe he was unable but it was hard to ignore the sensation that now rested more prominently in your navel rather than higher up in your stomach. Fondness for the routine you had every morning became so regular now it was beginning to become harder and harder to ignore for both parties that were unwilling to relent to something greater.

What’s Your Character’s Theme Song?
A song breakdown for the characters of Jeremy Allen White, Lionel Boyce, Matty Matheson, and Ricky Staffieri. It will discuss the connections other people and I made for the characters Carmy, Marcus, Neil Fak, and Ted Fak.
↓ long text below
Jeremy Allen White
Jeremy Allen White, who ironically, is about to play Bruce Springsteen in the upcoming Bruce Springsteen film, said that Carmy’s theme song would be “The Ties That Bind.”
The expression 'the tie that binds' is used to describe a common idea or belief that links people together. It can also be used plurally as 'the ties that bind'. For example, you may say: ''We are family, held together by the ties that bind. Nothing will tear us apart. (x)
This is when it gets interesting. The Ties That Bind is an opening song for his fifth album called The River.
The songs on The River reveal a tension between the need for community and the need to be alone. "The Ties That Bind", along with "Two Hearts" and "Out in the Street", is one of the key songs on the album about the need for community. (x)
This feels so incredibly reminiscent on the struggles of Carmy. His driving force to fully isolate himself to those he cares about while probably also feeling like he needs the people he’s pushed away.
This also reminded me of @espumado’s post The Night Of The Hunter & The River which was then talked about by @currymanganese’s post on the potential parallels between two romantic relationships in the The Night Of The Hunter and The Bear.
There’s so many weird horror elements in the show. Which is interesting because in this picture we see a revised 2nd edition of The Exorcist! So how farfetched is it to see those elements on the show. Especially this season!
I mentioned before in my post, “Fourth Wall (being broken)” that the Save It For Later song could be about Carmy being lost and it became a reflection to the season. I can’t help but wonder if Save It For Later could have multiple meanings for each character.
@happylikeasadsong broke down some lyrics of the song and explains what it could do with Sydney’s decision.
Lionel Boyce
Lionel Boyce said Sèrgio Mendes, “Ides Of March.” for his character Marcus’ before realizing that’s probably not the name of the song. It was actually “Waters of March”
Sèrgio Mendes is most known for his song, Mas Que Nada, which translates to whatever and anyway. In this article I read, they call him a bossa nova king and Mendes explains how life is about magical encounters.
This is probably a funny coincidence but I actually know a song named Soul Bossa Nova by Quincy Jones. It was playing on a playlist that’s about songs you’d hear during magic shows. (x) (x) (x)
Although, Ides of March wasn’t the name of the song and I write metas for The Bear (AKA I’m insane), I did research on both to see what I can find!
Ides of March, day in the ancient Roman calendar that falls on March 15 and is associated with misfortune and doom. It became renowned as the date on which Roman dictator Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 bce and was further immortalized in the tragedy Julius Caesar by English dramatist William Shakespeare.
On the topic of William Shakespeare, @currymanganese has a post on The Bear being a super deconstructed Shakespearean pastoral comedy.
It was then corrected to Waters of March. I tried to find the meaning for that particular song by Sérgio Mendes but it all lead to “Water Of March” by Antônio Carlos Jobim.
The inspiration for "Águas de março" came from Rio de Janeiro's rainiest month. March is typically marked by sudden storms with heavy rains and strong winds that cause flooding in many places around the city. The lyrics and the music have a constant downward progression much like the water torrent from those rains flowing in the gutters, which typically would carry sticks, stones, bits of glass, and almost everything and anything. Antonio Carlos Jobim wrote the song during a visit to his family rancho, in the interior of Rio de Janeiro state amid a steady rainstorm which had turned the roads and landscape to mud.
sticks and stones may break my bones, (but words can never hurt me) - said in order to show that people cannot be hurt by unpleasant things that are said to them (x)
When it comes to mud, I was immediately reminded of @whenmemorydies’s post on Claire being clear [as] mud. (Which I’ll go a bit more into depth in another post). I’m also fairly certain @ago0112 talked about it as well!
I talked about the topic of glass in my previous meta, The Glass Table & The Glass Fish Tank, where I found parallels to Claire and Donna. Those comparisons got a little confirmed in the script of (2.02).
I did some research on the scripts about Claire on (2.02) as well.
In the post, there was a bit of a deep dive on the potential meaning of glass/shattered glass and here’s one of them I found a connection to.
Connection between the fragility of glass and the human condition: Glass can be tough, but it becomes fragile when it faces too much pressure. Similarly, people can be strong, but life's challenges can make us feel a bit delicate. The broken glass helps us see that we all have both strength and vulnerability inside us, teaching us about the balance between being tough and sensitive in our own lives.
When it talked about how broken glass helps us see that we all have both strength and vulnerability inside us, teaching us about the balance between being tough and sensitive in our own lives, I was reminded of this particular thebearfx’s post:
After that, I recalled dialogue that I wrote about in my post on Richie being a fox and a caterpillar. In this scene, Natalie and Richie talk about the soul of the dining room in (3x07).
Richie: [scoffs] “Dining room sounds like shit.” Natalie: “Like, the acoustics?” Richie: “No. It’s like, the soul, you know? It’s like--Service sounds like total chaos.” Natalie: “Every day can’t be perfect.” Richie: “Every day is like the Super Bowl. I could use a lightning bolt.” Natalie: “Can’t control the weather.”
In Waters of March, there’s a reference to a fox in a brush.
The oak when it blooms A fox in the brush A knot in the wood The song of a thrush (x)
What’s so fascinating about this particular rabbit hole is about what it all potentially means for Marcus as a character.
The song is about spring in Brazil as an allegory for life: how it continues on despite our best efforts to control it. It reminds us how with the ugly, comes the beautiful. (x)
The ugliness could be about death while the beauty of it is what the love he has for his mother could inspire for Marcus.
The plan of the house, the body in bed, the car that got stuck, it’s the mud, it’s the mud. a float, a drift, a flight, a wing, a hawk, a quail, the promise of spring.
He had become frustrated with the difficulties the rain was causing for the construction of a new boundary wall along his property line. The skies rained from above while chaos reigned below, as plainly stated in the lyrics: “It’s the mud, it’s the mud…” With plenty of time to contemplate the situation, Jobim created a modern parable for daily life. (x)
I’ll certainly talk about all of this in a separate post (whenever that will be) but there’s so many small details that evolve into a beautiful narrative.
The Coca-Cola Jingle
youtube
Coca-Cola tapped Antonio Carlos Jobim for the rights to his ‘Águas de Março’, giving new lyrics to ‘The Waters of March’ to make the jingle a worldwide sensation. Jobim even became a celebrity spokesman for Coke in a relationship that lasted for several years. (x)
Coca Cola is one of the most popular soft drinks in the world. In doing my research, I found an article talking about how design elements of the soft drink’s logo clearly portray the idea of energy, fun, and good times.
The recent 2021 hug version logo of the brand was termed as “magical” and “genius” by designers. It ended up being introduced with a new tagline as “real magic.” Apparently, it’s considered magical because you can imagine the bottle even when it is not there.
There’s even a well-known story about the white and red logo being inspired by the brand’s first advertisement that featured Santa Claus wearing his red and white suit with a bottle in his hands. (x)
@vacationship made an analysis on the green and red sauce and the potential importance of its symbolism.
Sydney and Claire have an interesting parallel with coke. I actually found that little connection earlier but didn’t know it had any relevance to this until now.
(Sydney pouring/drinking coke after the scene of the group being at Marcus’ mother’s funeral isn’t a coincidence.)
Matty Matheson
Matty Matheson chose Hakuna Matata for his character Neil Fak. The Bear’s instagram account also talked about how he is a master mocktail maker.
Hakuna matata roughly translates to “there are no troubles” in Swahili. The phrase was popularized in English by the 1994 Disney movie The Lion King, where it's translated as “no worries.” It has a connotation of not worrying about things outside a person's control. The movie popularized the phrase internationally, making it a cultural staple and synonymous with Disney's family-friendly brand.
'Hakuna matata' is Swahili for 'no worries'. As such, it is the perfect catchphrase for Timon and Pumbaa, as it perfectly reflects their relaxed, devil-may-care attitude to life. (x)
@outmakingmoonshine has discussed the possibility that the Faks are the inner voice/imaginary friends for the protagonist (Carmy).
Are they suggesting Pumbaa, Timon, and Simba are Neil Fak, Ted Fak, and Carmy?
The Lion King was released on June 15, 1994, receiving critical acclaim for its music, story, themes, and animation. With an initial worldwide gross of $763 million, it finished its theatrical run as the highest-grossing film of 1994 and the second-highest-grossing film of all time, behind Jurassic Park (1993).
Timon: Hey, where you going? Simba: Nowhere. Timon: Gee. He looks blue. Pumbaa: I'd say brownish-gold. Timon: No, no, no, no. I mean he's depressed. Pumbaa: Oh. Pumbaa: Kid, what's eatin' ya? Simba: Who cares? I can't go back. Timon: Ahh. You're an outcast! That's great; so are we! Pumbaa: What cha do, kid? Simba: Something terrible. But I don't wanna talk about it. Timon: Good. We don't wanna hear about it. Pumbaa: Come on Timon. Anything we can do? Simba: Not unless you can change the past.
Simba: Hakuna matata? Pumbaa: Yeah. It’s our motto! Simba: What’s a motto? Timon: Nothin’ what’s a motto with you?! (laughs) Pumbaa: Hakuna matata: These two words will solve all your problems. (x) (x) (x)
Carmy could have a side of him that feels outcasted by the rest of the group (there was also a group chat he had no idea about) so he conjured up another set of outcasts that promote a motto and philosophy to solve all of his problems.
Neil Fak is the naive/childlike aspects of himself that I suspect Carmy got from his childhood with his mother. I can’t help but wonder if the Faks representing Carmy’s inner voice was only applied to the dumpster scene when I found dialogue about how nice it is in the office before Carmy called Sydney nice after checking her out. Does it only apply when they’re all alone together?
As with many characters in The Lion King, Pumbaa's name derives from the East African language Swahili. In Swahili, pumbaa (v.) means "to be foolish, silly, weakminded, careless, negligent."
Richie and Carmy calls Neil Fak a bitch in (3x02)
Neil Fak: “Nat, the vibe’s weird.”
Carmy: “You’re such a fucking bitch.”
Richie: “You’re such a bitch.”
Natalie: “I know, sweetheart. Don’t be scared.”
Most of these could probably best describe Neil Fak (and even Carmy perhaps) but I wonder about the negligence of his character. Is this about the lack of real tools of his? Another detail that I’m not sure connects here is that Neil Fak mentioned being afraid of boxes to Ted Fak.
Warthogs regularly come into contact with villages and people. When this happens, they usually cause havoc, scampering through a garden or village and making a mess of everything. There is one Pumbaa adjective that is correct. They can be lazy. Rather than digging their own burrows, they will often just use the burrowed home of other animals. (x)
I remember this dialogue vividly, but there was a scene where the Faks asked Donna if they could stay over her house during Christmas.
Neil Fak: “Do you think that we can sleepover—” Donna: “There’s no sleepovers at Christmas. What the fuck?” Neil Fak: “No, we can sleepover.” Donna: “No, you can’t sleepover on Christmas. No. Mm-mmm.” Neil Fak: “No? No. Big Neil got us skateboards.” Donna: “You know what? Shut up. Michael!” Neil Fak: “Michael hid ‘em.” Donna: “Hey, Michael. Get in here. Mike? The Faks are asking me stupid things—”
(The fact that there’s a Hakuna Matata reference after Hulu is bought by Disney is also not lost on me.)
Timon is a historical Greek name, taken to mean "he who respects." Timon's name may derive from Shakespeare's tragedy Timon of Athens, another Shakespeare reference in a film which derives its plot from Hamlet. The tragedy is based in the history of the real Timon of Athens, a famous misanthrope during the era of the Peloponnesian War, who refused life in Athens to live isolated. Another explanation is that he is named after the Greek philosopher Timon, a disciple of Pyrrho, the founder of the school of skepticism. (x) (x) (x)
I happened to stumble upon another Shakespeare reference. If Timon is meant to be Ted Fak then this is going to be a bit ironic because of what Ted Fak’s theme song is!
Ricky Staffieri
Ricky Staffieri chose Back Then by Mike Jones for the theme song of his character, Ted Fak. Ironically, this song is vulgar in nature with calling woman “hoes” and all.
In the same meta I mentioned earlier, @outmakingmoonshine talked about Ted being sex driven and maybe representative of Carmy’s primal mind.
We also have @thoughtfulchaos773 having a post on the inappropriate double entendre jokes on the show.
I never really listened to the lyrics until about two months ago, but now that I have, they’re pretty amazing. On the surface, it’s a vulgar song about “hoes,” but on a deeper, more philosophical level, it’s an anthem about self-confidence. The overall message in Jones’ song is that the ladies in his life were never really gave him the time of day until he started to make it big. When you really listen to the message of the words – and not necessarily the words themselves – a lot of it is just him spewing the harsh truth. I think it speaks to all of the ugly ducklings out there, or the really shy people who never put themselves out there until they found themselves later on in life. That cute girl in middle school or high school who is now a bombshell? Yeah, she remembers how you treated her. (x)
Claire always told Carmy about their past history when they were young but Carmy seemed to have no recollection of it.
After reading this analysis on its philosophical meaning, I couldn’t help but wonder what it all meant pertaining to Ted Fak. Do we really know anything about Ted Fak’s history in high school besides Carmy? I just got a sudden wave of theories that this is referring to Carmy.
For Ted Fak, maybe this is about being treated poorly in high school. Now, he ended up working for a popular food establishment with very sudden attention from woman which had never happened before.
For Carmy, Ted Fak could be the more anxiety/primitive ridden version of him.
The reason I talk about the anxiety aspect is because some people have the personal experience of saying things they don’t mean when they have anxiety. Ted Fak could be representing the brutal ‘truths’ that Carmy could or don’t really mean.
Anxiety activates people’s fight or flight instinct When someone has an anxiety disorder, they'll often feel intense fear towards possible threats and dangers. For someone with a social anxiety disorder, this could be crowds or social events, whereas for someone with generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), their fear could be focused on a broad range of potential scenarios, such as losing their job, damaging their friendships or getting into accidents. These thoughts cause people to experience symptoms of anxiety such as an increased heartbeat, shortness of breath and nausea. This is because thinking about the possible dangers activates their fight or flight instinct. Irritability is a symptom of anxiety When a person is experiencing anxiety, they'll often be more irritable than usual. This is a common symptom of many types of anxiety disorder. (x)
The increased heartbeat caught my attention because Claire noticed his heart was beating fast in a scene before it cuts to Carmy looking at a clock in (3x04).
The other part of the song I absolutely love is: “I ain’t got no time to call her. I’ma stall her like she stalled me, now she trying to call me; (girl) I’ma dog your whole ass like you dogged me.”
I can’t lie. I laughed so hard when I saw this lyric. Like damn, I wonder who exactly this could refer to here? It could be about Kelly but I’ll have to do more digging to figure that out.
I can’t speak for everyone in the world, but I know that I have an elephant-like memory when it comes to people how people treat me – whether it was in middle school, high school, college, or recently. I’m a firm believer in that unless someone gives you a reason to treat them like dirt, you shouldn’t. I know that I don’t pay any mind to people – not just girls – who treated me like crap and are now trying to make like everything is OK. Respect is earned, not given with me; I believe people can change (to a degree), but it will take time for someone to earn my trust and respect, if violated.
This is when we get the depiction of respect and how it’s earned, not given. Does Carmy respect Claire and vise versa?
I didn’t really get the vibe that Claire was a mean person or a bully with the way she spoke about her and Carmy’s history. But what if she scrubbed the ugly parts of it?
It’s making me ponder whether Carmy felt bitter that Claire suddenly had this interest in him because he’s well known as a chef now. It’s even more bizarre because they were both in New York. Mikey told her about Carmy’s chef adventures by the time of Christmas. Why didn’t Claire reach out to him then? Did it really take Mikey passing away for her to make a move?
There was discussion between @devisrina, @thoughtfulchaos773, and I about this. This is when I had the thought that Claire might’ve started talking to Carmy to humor herself and her friends because Carmy was the loner in high school. It was after the scripts came out and we discovered Claire was originally supposed to be blonde like Carmy’s mother. There’s so many questions on whether Claire and Carmy really had a crush on each other.
The Phone Number
I’m at the early stages of what I hope will be a very successful sports reporting career, so some people have reached out for various reasons (advice, recommendation, etc.). I’m happy to try and help the people who treated me well, but I almost want to laugh at the people who treated me like dirt and are now asking for a favor, however small. Mike Jones may use more colorful language than I would have had I wrote this song, but its underlying message is essentially the Golden Rule laced with profanity: Treat others the way you would want to be treated.
Something that I thought was interesting, was that Mike Jones rapped his phone number into the song. The most obvious parallel to this is that Carmy (purposely?) gave her the wrong number when they reunited by the grocery store fridges.
They see that I'm a star, now they wanna sit in my car Now they wanna count my cheese, smoke my weed and sip my barre now They used to love to me diss me, now they rush to hug and kiss me now They tellin' all they friends when I leave how they miss me now (281) 000-000 Hit Mike Jones up on the low cause Mike Jones about to blow Befo' the ice was in my grill, before I got my major deal These hoes wouldn't give a damn if I was ill, geah (x)
Apparently, ice on grills is a thing in the cooking industry. Graham Elliott revealed in an interview that his trick for making better burgers is pressing an ice cube into the middle of the patty before grilling.
“And if you're worried about the ice cubes making your burgers cold or wet — don't! The ice melts pretty quickly so no one will even know they were there.” <- This just felt reminiscent to my theory on Claire being an illusion. (x) (x)
Chef Graham Elliot Remembers Charlie Trotter “Famed Chicago chef Charlie Trotter died on Tuesday at age 54. Graham Elliot joined Charlie Trotter’s at age 21, and worked in his kitchens for three years.”
It seems important to note that Graham Elliot had three years of experience with Charlie Trotter.
Chef, mentor, trailblazer, philosopher, artist, teacher, leader. These are the words that immediately come to mind when I think of Charlie Trotter, or CHT, as he was referred to by the team. Rarely does one encounter an individual that can both inspire and frighten you with his (almost perverse) dedication to excellence and perfection. I learned his philosophic approach to cooking, and that everything was of equal importance. That you had to be your own toughest critic. That we weren’t in the “food industry” but in the “make it happen” business. To this very day, I try to foster the same ideals in my team: That the food you put on the plate, the way you keep your knives sharp, the way you wipe down your station—all of those represent who you are as a person. (x)
@moodyeucalyptus recently tagged me in their post discussing the documentary about Charlie Trotter and the similarities with Carmy’s asshole boss. I don’t think it’s a coincidence I found this connection.
We know that Carmy was buying very expensive food ingredients/supplies and helped Claire’s mother with moving boxes. (Not to mention, he was literally moving boxes with Claire like he was doing with the Faks.)
As @outmakingmoonshine pointed out, Carmy had a problem with Richie calling Sydney sweetheart in the very first episode but didn’t really seem to care about Claire being called a piece of ass by Ted Fak. The only thing he did was clarify what he meant and that was it.
Is it possible he didn’t really flinch because these were his thoughts about her for a while and has been trying to navigate through his true feelings for her?
What really caught my eye was the smoke my weed part. Funnily enough, in season three, we see Claire and Carmy share a cigarette.
Claire: “Can you just not make this weird? Like, I need a favor. My cousin bailed on me.”
Did he feel a certain way after doing that favor for her? Which would explain why he asked her for a favor too and struggled to explain why he gave her a fake number. Carmy mentioned how he liked her alot at the party. Did he think it wasn’t anything more than what it was, exchanging favors?
Claire: “You know he, uh he told me you guys are really close and he’s your best friend.” Carmy: “Fak said that?” Claire: “Mhm.” Carmy: “No no no. Fak’s not my best friend.” Claire: “Really?” Carmy: “No no he is. He’s probably my best friend.” Claire: “That’s interesting. To sit with. For you.”
I thought Claire saying this was very strange because I couldn’t grasp whether she was saying a lighthearted joke or making fun of him.
Considering the new information thebearfx had given, did Carmy sense that? Especially when Jones talked about how they wouldn’t care if he was ill. It felt so reminiscent to Claire leaving Carmy in the fridge after he said things that were more concerning rather than hurtful.
Maybe Carmy didn’t realize the type of relationship it was until it was too late.
Thank you so much for reading!! This seems so convoluted. I made a good majority of this on August 7th. Feel free to call me insane for this rabbit hole (I’m well aware of how insane I look). There’s alot of information that I just discovered recently besides this meta but I don’t even know how to put it in the proper words. So, bear with me for a bit lmao. Fair warning, the topic of animals, gardens, plants, water, glass, and cigarettes might come back in a good majority of my metas for now. Hopefully I’ll be able to properly explain why later lol.

The human just somehow keeps saving apes
Caesar, do not even worry about your wife and children, the human, once again, pelted someone with rocks to prevent ape deaths
Like instead of hearing "the king kong is down" over the radio, he just hears "I need help, there's some crazy woman throwing rocks at me and the ape took my fucking gun"
When in doubt; rocks
This is so funny, omg 😂
You bet Ash would have crafted a slingshot for you! You eventually talked to him about a tool, back in your childhood you used to bother your neighbors with rocks and it clicked in his mind! It was your gift, kind of like a ceremonial stuff to welcome you as officially part of the colony and part of Rocket's family.
And you used it against the Colonel 😭 You gained a new nickname from the enemy: Slingshot Pest, once aimed, never missed! After Caesar, you're the next one The Colonel wants to take down, you made him mad because all his plans are ruined by your rocks! Greek Mythology in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
How will Noa's story be remembered by future generations of apes?
Caesar is remembered by the apes as a sort of mythic, god-like figure. An ape whose story has been passed down for generations to the point where many apes are familiar with the legend of Caesar, even if the true story has been distorted throughout time.
The movies utilize famous myths, legends, and stories that we are all familiar with, or have at least heard of, to create the legend of Caesar, and now Noa.
In the Caesar trilogy, Caesar is a Moses figure for the apes, who we know freed his people, taking them to the promised lands. We should all at least recognize the name Hamlet, one of Shakespeare's plays, that Dawn is loosely based on. In some versions, the angel Lucifer rebelled against God because he refused to bow down to mankind. In Dawn, Koba rebelled against Caesar because he refused to help humans, or mankind. And we all know what happened to Lucifer after betraying God.
We know these stories. They're familiar, even now that they're hundreds or thousands of years old.
So what famous stories will the writers use so that Noa's story is remembered by apes centuries later?
Well, Kingdom had an ape named Noa, who saved his people from a flood, and there was even a giant boat in the background. Okay, Noah and the Flood. That one's obvious.
What about some Greek mythology?
The Myth of Icarus and Daedalus
If you don't know how the myth of Icarus and Daedalus goes, there's still a very good chance you've heard of the saying, "He flew too close to the sun."
In a very brief nutshell, Daedalus, an inventor, built some wings for him and his son, Icarus. They put on these wings to fly away and escape King Minos, who is holding them prisoner. Daedalus warns his son not to fly too close to the sun because the wax will melt, but Icarus doesn't listen, and he falls to his death.
I found some similarities to the myth of Icarus and Daedalus in Kingdom. Whether this is what the writers actually intended or not, I don't know for sure, but this is mainly for fun, and I wanted to share!
Before I get started, I want to thank @iamtotallycool because she pointed out similarities to other Greek myths after I shared with her my initial thoughts, and I will later point out which ones she came up with. Thank you for listening to my ramblings on discord, lol.
Noa as Icarus
Noa reminds me of Icarus, the man who flew too high and fell to his death. Noa is the first to climb above Top Nest, so this means he went higher than any of the other apes in his clan. He is soaring above the others, reaching new and dangerous heights.
Noa decides to go higher, wonderfully displaying his ingenuity by using some old rebar to swing himself up a wall that should've been impossible to climb. This reminds me of Daedalus using his inventions to help him fly, something considered impossible.
But after Noa reaches the nest, higher than any ape before him, what happens right after? He falls.
In a deleted scene after the egg climb, Soona tells Noa that since he is the first above Top Nest, that makes him special, and maybe his eagle will be sun-colored, like his father's eagle, Sun.
And right after Noa literally falls into Raka's home, the wise orangutan says to himself in amusement:
"Apes falling from the sky."
Here's a fun detail. Remember that mural Noa looks at? On the far left side, if you squint, you can see a person with wings.
I actually have a theory as to how Noa could fly in future movies that I'll link at the end!
Noa as Daedalus
Not only does Noa remind me of Icarus, but he also reminds me of Daedalus. Daedalus was a skillful architect and inventor, who built the Labyrinth for King Minos, where the legendary Minotaur lived.
We see the beginnings of Noa's architect side. He stays up late at night to fix both the fish rack and the electric staff. When Proximus (King Minos) learns of how Noa (Daedalus) fixed the staff, he tells Noa that he has use for clever apes like him, as if he wanted to use Noa's intelligence to help him achieve instant eeevolution. This reminds me of how King Minos uses Daedalus' intelligence to build him the Labyrinth.
And just like Daedalus who built the wings to escape King Minos, Noa devises a plan to flood the vault for him and Eagle Clan to escape Proximus.
Trevathan is also like Daedalus in this story, who is trapped by the king, building and creating for him. Daedalus built the Labyrinth for King Minos, and Trevathan built the electric staffs for Proximus.
Fathers and Sons
Daedalus warns his son to be careful. To not fly too low, for the water will get his wings wet, and to not fly too high, for the sun will melt the wax from his wings. But Icarus doesn't listen, rushing to surpass the father.
This reminds me of how Noa feels a lot of pressure from his father Koro, wanting to make his father proud by telling him that he was the only one of his friends who climbed above Top Nest. Instead of praise, however, Koro reprimands him for breaking some other rule, telling him to stay away from where he is forbidden to go.
Theseus and the Labyrinth
@iamtotallycool pointed out how Kingdom also has similarities to the myth of Theseus, the Labyrinth, and the Minotaur.
The Labyrinth is an underground maze on the island of Crete where the monstrous Minotaur lives. Every year, King Minos requires sacrifices from other kingdoms for the Minotaur to eat. Theseus, son of King Aegeus, sets out to kill the Minotaur. Princess Ariadne, King Minos' daughter, helps Theseus to navigate the Labyrinth, and gives him a ball of yarn to help him make his way back so he doesn't get lost.
This reminds me of how Proximus (King Minos) steals clans (the sacrifices) for the expansion of his kingdom and to get the vault open, so Noa (Theseus) uses the help of Mae (Ariadne) to navigate the vault (Labyrinth) in order to destroy what is inside (Minotaur).
During the scene where Noa and Sylva have their final battle, Noa has to run through the twists and turns of the vault, similar to a maze, while he is being chased by Sylva, similar to how the Minotaur battled Theseus. Sylva is even big and burly like the Minotaur!
Ok, So What Does This Mean?
Alright, so now that we pointed out some of the similarities, what could this all mean? It's one thing to point out the similarities, but why these stories in particular? What is the message? What could this mean for Noa? Assuming this is even what the writers intended, we can only speculate, so this final bit is mainly fun theorizing.
Due to his hubris, Icarus flies too close to the sun, leading to his death. Could Noa develop his own hubris that leads him to his downfall, or takes him down a darker path?
The myth of Icarus can also be seen as a cautionary tale of the dangers of technology if not used carefully. Technology can be useful and improve lives, but what if it falls into the wrong hands? What if one is too overconfident with it, not realizing the bad it can do before it's too late?
Proximus couldn't get his hands on human technology, for he would've used it to hurt other apes. What about Noa, though? Now that Noa starts to learn how human tech like electricity works, what if he starts to bring forth technological innovations for the apes? What if he starts out trying to use it to improve the lives of apes, but he ends up using it for bad? Or what if other apes take his ideas and use it for their own advantage? The path to hell is paved with good intentions, as they say.
And this one's more for fun, but what if Noa were to actually fly? If you wanna read more of my ramblings, here is my theory on Noa taking flight. (Hint: It involves airplanes).
In Conclusion
If you made it all the way to the end, thank you for reading! I had a lot of fun coming up with these ideas and speculating, and I hope you had fun reading this as well. If you have any thoughts or ideas, feel free to share!

My small essay on how I view France's perception of Joan of Arc and their relationship in Hetalia.
Almost as quickly as I joined Hetalia, I noticed how prevalent the story of France and Joan of Arc was and how it seemed Francis was so attached to her, almost like a lover. And while I do see a bit of how this could be, the attachment to her (and her specifically) that some parts of the fandom portrayed it has always been strange to me. So I'm going to go over the historical facts as well as the canon events of Hetalia involving Joan. Then I'll discuss how she was treated in French historiography and compare it to how she was treated in the fandom. Then, I'll go over my thoughts and headcanons about not only how the both of them interacted (if they did) but also how Francis thought of her after her death.
I. Who was Joan of Arc?
Joan was a farmer's daughter born in 1412 in Lorraine, during a time when France was at war with England, and losing, with most of its territory occupied by England or English allies. As the war started with a legitimacy dispute between the Kings of France and England, the crown prince of France had even been disinherited. At 13, she heard voices she identified to be God's command to save France by reinstating the King of France. She convinced the guy and set off for the Battle of Orléans (1429) which she won, a battle considered one of the turning points of the war for France, as she also enabled the king to be crowned.
She was captured a year later by English allies. She was tried and accused of heresy and witchcraft by the English and their allies, and the new king of France did not involve himself in it to not be associated with a heretic. She was burned at the stakes a year later in Rouen.
There was a rehabilitation trial put in place 20 years later.
II. The Hetalia episode (S2E15)
Lisa is an American tourist who visits the Mont Saint Michel in Normandy (the same region where Joan was burned at the stake). France stumbles upon her and is troubled because he seems to have recognised her. He offers her a tour, during which he tells her of Joan of Arc's story (and of the war in general) in admiration. When the topic of her being burned is brought up by Lisa, Francis confirms it happened in a rather stern tone (and he recalls the date perfectly).
He finishes by saying that he hopes all people forgotten by History get to be reborn and have a normal life, and that Lisa should be happy this time, confirming that she is implied to be Joan's reincarnation.
This episode shows us that, yes, Francis does look up to Joan in admiration, and has respect for her. Thinking of Joan makes him think about all the others who may have been tossed aside and forgotten. But I do find it a bit strange, considering Joan of Arc is not forgotten at all: she is the patron saint of France, was canonised, and is still taught in schools in France. Even before the 19th century, she was well-known, being talked about and sometimes brought up during conflicts.
III. The Hetalia strip
Joan was also brought up in the nonlinear strip "Big Brother France and That Kid" which gives another interesting insight into France and how he sees Joan. And it may explain why Francis says what he says in the anime.
He forgot about Jeanne until Napoleon mentioned her. Does he also forget other important people?
IV. Joan and French Historiography
In the following decades after the war, Jeanne tended to be occulted by historians. Working for the King, there was no way they would say he had been helped by a "heretic". Until the 19th century, she was occulted, as the contemporary fame that surrounded her and her death had faded away.
The XIXth century saw a surge in her representation. However, this was not a coincidence. Her figure was brought up similarly to the one of Vercingétorix, the Gaulish leader who fought Julius Caesar. She became a political tool, a symbol of French unity against a common enemy. She and Vercingétorix are prominent figures who rose after the defeat of the Franco-Prussian war against the German States.
She was taught in schools (which became free and mandatory around this time), contributing to her spreading in the general conscience of the average French person. Even to this day, I cannot tell you of one person who does not know who she is here.
Here is an example of how she was described in old French textbooks: "In no country can we find such a beautiful story as that of Joan of Arc. All French people must love and venerate the support of this young girl who loved France so much and died for us."
Her image and especially this figure of unity became almost inseparable from her historical figure. Today, she is often brought up by the far right (cues in Jean-Marie Le Pen's "Jeanne ! Au secour !") as this symbol of French unity against the common enemy, with the "French" and the "enemy"... up to their interpretation (spoiler: it's not the English).
"The defence of the country is the first of duties, but as it builds France, wars of conquest become legitimate. Most of the heroes presented to the children's admiration convey a warrior mentality, presented as a defence of the homeland against the invader. [...] Joan is the purest reference of popular patriotism." (Suzanne Citron, Le Mythe National)
V. Joan and the fandom
[THIS SECTION IS BASED *ONLY* ON MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE NAVIGATING HETALIA FAN CONTENT]
Now, I don't think most of you guys (at least from the side of the fandom I interact the most with) are from the French extreme right, so I doubt you associate her with this specific symbol. But you have to admit her rise to prominence has influenced the way Hetalia perceived her (and perhaps Himaruya as well). Why do I say that?
I feel like it's been toned down since the time I joined the fandom (either that or I just don't look a FRUK/Joan-related fanfics as much), but her bond with Francis occasionally felt... strange, like it was being pushed as the ultimate soulmate story. Francis being furious, even lashing out at Arthur when he learns of her death, him being really sensitive when May 30th arrives every year. It feels... strange. I haven't seen it with any other nation and a prominent figure in history. Not even Francis with another human (I guess because the canon did tackle Joan of Arc in more detail than for others).
This central place she is given in a nation's heart, seemingly almost venerated by Francis, I feel like it reflects how History (especially in French historiography) has portrayed her and given her this special place. It's just a small parallel that I noticed when I first got into Hetalia.
You could say many, MANY historical figures have been given special places, even in French historiography. I've even mentioned Vercingétorix here.
What do you guys think?
OH and by the way, do not take this part as meaning liking/doing content with Joan of Arc in this place as meaning it's bad to portray her as such
VI. My interpretation of how France and Joan interacted
This and the next part are my personal headcanons so feel free to ignore that if you're not interested.
Joan of Arc's story was widespread when she was still alive, and a lot of people knew of the girl who heard voices telling her to set out to crown the French king. After all, she did have a group following her when she went to convince the guy. Therefore, Francis DEFINITELY heard of her during her life.
Now, I am not sure if Francis would have actually met Joan. It implies he would have been there on the battlefield. I personally think nations get weak when their territory get invaded, so I don't think he did go to battlefields. However, Joan did meet with the French pretender to the throne. Perhaps, if Francis followed him, he would meet Joan as well. So yes, I think the two met and interacted.
Now as to how? Considering Joan's duty seemed to be towards the King (and therefore towards Francis), the both of them respected each other. To Francis, her courage might have been very admiring (after all, how many girls do you know just left their random-ass village and got a king to get crowned in the midst of a war).
Her victory against the English in Orléans did actually turn things over for France (=her role in the actual war may not be as exaggerated) as it was the sign that France could still win. So, in a way, Francis might have felt relieved and hopeful with her presence.
Now... her death. THE death.
When Joan was captured by the Burgundians and handed over to the Brits, the King did not do much to free her and she ended up burned. ANYONE would feel injustice hearing this, and so did Francis. I definitely do not think he would have gone "Bah, things happen, humans die", especially since this is not his attitude towards humans. But I do feel that he did not lash out either. It was an in-between. There was disappointment. How could such a beam of hope be abandoned to the enemies like that?
So, in a few words, admiration, loyalty, and a feeling of injustice and disappointment after her death.
VII. My interpretation of how France remembered and remembers her
Francis probably moved on with his life. He would maybe remember her from time to time, especially when the war was still raging (it went on for another 20 years), but by the Renaissance period, he may have just not thought about her much, in the sense that if you reminded him of his existence, he would remember everything, but that in his day-to-day life, he didn't reminisce much. After all, it would be a pain to have to always remember the people who saved you or did great things for you as a nation, and mourn their death anniversary.
When Napoleon arrived, he was reminded of her by him (as in, Napoleon mentioned her). That's when he remembered more often. As the 19th century progresses, he remembers others "like" Joan: Vercingétorix, Charles Martel,... He may be happy that those people get remembered again, but this comes with a political taint and historical romanticism. For someone like Francis, who actually LIVED history, this may have been bitter.
So nowadays, he finds himself remembering Joan more often (like the other historical figures) with a feeling of admiration and proudness. This, however, does not affect his relationship with England. I don't think Arthur himself burned her for one. Also, dang imagine if you had to hate or feel bitterness about every single nation whose people did something bad to a hero from your country. I'd be tired
Perhaps what Francis meant to Lisa was that he hoped that all figures who were tainted by History so much just get to be reborn as ordinary people whose lives will never be touched by History.
Conclusion?
This is a very messy essay and so will be the conclusion. I think that while Joan being more discussed than other historical figures in the Healia fandom is normal considering she is talked about in a strip and has a whole episode dedicated to her, I think that her portrayal in relation to Francis can be a little bit exaggerated, and I think that the way History had made her such a prominent figure helped in that.
I don't even know if I should call that an essay or just a series of thoughts.

Thank you guys so much for following along, and reading, liking, sharing, commenting. And without further ado let the adventure begin!
Word Count: 11K
Sanji POV…
It had been a few days since we arrived at Zou. The destruction we witnessed, the carnage left behind, still lingered in my mind. The Mink Tribe had faced an invasion, and with the help of Chopper, Tristan, Miagi, and that no-good Caesar—by force, of course, since the annihilation was caused by one of his damned gases—they managed to treat the injured. Although we were initially perceived as a threat, Wanda quickly realized we weren’t part of Jack’s crew when Tristan and Pedro vouched for us.
But now, as I stood here with Nami, Chopper, Brook, and Caesar, facing off against Pekoms and Capone Bege, I realized that I faced a new kind of challenge.
Pekoms, grateful we saved the Mink Tribe, had been ready to call Big Mom and tell her the mission failed.
“What are you talking about? What mission?” I demanded, already gearing up for a fight.
Before I could blink, Bege shot Pekoms. My eyes widened as I watched the blood spray, leaving Pekoms crumpled in a heap.
“Where’s the girl, Blackleg?” Bege growled, eyes sweeping the room as if searching for someone.
“If you’re thinking about hurting Nami, you’ve got another thing coming!” I spat, as Nami, Chopper, Brook, and even Caesar were bound in chains.
“Why don’t you come inside so we can discuss this like gentlemen,” Bege sneered, ushering us all into his fortress-like body.
He poured wine as if nothing had happened. “Now, Blackleg, I won’t ask again. Where’s the girl?”
“What girl?” I snapped, still trying to figure out how the hell we were going to get out of this.
“The one named Princess Y/N,” he said, his voice colder now.
My breath caught. I barely managed to stifle my gasp.
“Why the hell do you want her?” I demanded, anger boiling inside me. How dare he even mention her name.
“Take it easy, Blackleg,” he said, pulling out two invitations and tossing them at me. “You’re set to marry the 35th daughter of the Charlotte Family, Pudding.” He gestured toward the paper, where it was written clear as day: Groom: Vinsmoke Sanji. Bride: Charlotte Pudding.
“What?!” Nami, Chopper, and Brook yelled in unison, their eyes wide in shock.
“Sanji! What gives?!” Nami struggled against her binds.
“Tea party, my ass,” I growled. “I’m not going to Big Mom’s tea party, and I’m definitely not marrying her daughter! Besides, I’m already engaged to be married—and that’s with Y/N!”
“What?!” Nami, Chopper, and Brook echoed once again, even more confused now.
Brook leaned toward Nami and muttered, “I just know this is a one-sided marriage, because the last time I checked, Y/N didn’t agree to anything, let alone marriage.”
Before they could react, Bege revealed a second invitation, the paper unfolding slowly like some twisted joke.
“She was also invited to Mama’s tea party, but as a bride herself,” Bege said, his voice thick with amusement.
The second invitation read: Groom: Vinsmoke Ichiji. Bride: Princess Y/L/N, Y/N.
My world tilted. My hands clenched, fists trembling in rage.
“What the hell is this?!” I growled, my voice dark and deadly. “I’ll be damned if I let them near her, let alone marry one of those bastards.”
Bege leaned back, as if enjoying the show. “Your father put in that invitation. Since she’s going to be a bride to the first child of the Vinsmokes, Judge thought it fitting to have all his children reunited for the occasion. Her wedding will be held first, and then yours will follow,” he said, savoring every word.
I gritted my teeth, barely able to contain myself. "Over my dead body."
“Oh, and if you’re wondering where your charming older brother is, Vinsmoke Ichiji would’ve been here today, but he’s busy handling ‘business’ for Judge. He’s very eager to see his bride-to-be. Apparently, he was the one who pushed to make this marriage happen, and Judge went along with it.”
My blood boiled at the thought of Ichiji, of him thinking he could lay a finger on Y/N. I’ll kill him before I let that happen.
“You’re playing with fire, Bege,” I hissed, glaring at him. “And trust me, you’ll get burned.”
Bege grinned, clearly amused by my outburst. “Just remember, Blackleg. If you don’t cooperate, it’s not just your life on the line—it’s hers too. And you wouldn’t want that now, would you?”
I clenched my fists even tighter, the weight of it all pressing down on me. My mind raced, thinking of Y/N and what Ichiji might do if I wasn’t there to protect her.
Y/N POV..
I lay beside Law, breathing softly, feeling the weight of exhaustion. “Alright, let’s get you fixed and healed,” said Leo, his little needle poised for action. I glanced up, smiling at him despite the pain. “So you must be Leo. I’ve heard so much about you.”
Leo blushed, a hint of fluster creeping onto his cheeks at the compliment. I turned to the other figure beside him. “And you must be Princess Mansherry. The pleasure’s all mine,” I said with a soft smile.
Leo, now positioned on top of me, made me hiss in pain. “Princess, we may need to remove this dress, as it won’t let me get to the injury,” he said, still blushing.
“You’re right. This corset dress will only wear me down and won’t let you access the wound,” I replied in a hushed tone. I slowly turned to face Law, who was already looking at me, his gaze intense and concerned.
I then looked over at Cavendish, who was wearing a shirt that might help the process. “Cabbage, I know this may be forward of me, but do you mind lending me your white shirt and… ripping my dress with your sword?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
Cavendish blushed, clearly taken aback by my request. “Princess… I—”
“Oh come on, Cabbage! Don’t get all flustered now,” I groaned, rolling my eyes playfully. “Just do it already!”
With a chuckle, Cavendish finally relented. “Alright, alright. Just don’t blame me if this goes horribly wrong.” He carefully sliced the fabric of my dress, his movements precise yet gentle, ensuring I wouldn’t feel more pain than necessary.
As the material fell away, I took a deep breath, feeling a mixture of vulnerability and relief. “Thank you, Cabbage,” I said softly, meeting his gaze for a moment before looking back at Leo.
“Is this better?” I asked, and he nodded as he got to work on my injured torso and side.
Cavendish kept trying to look away, his cheeks flushing ever so often, while I noticed Law's cheeks were also a darker shade of red. I smirked, feeling a playful spark. “Law, if you wanted to get a look at me this way, you could have just asked,” I chuckled, teasing him.
Leo focused intently, and as he finished sewing up my torso and side, I felt the familiar warmth of Princess Mansherry's healing powers begin to flow through me. A soothing sensation washed over my injuries, and I started to feel a bit better with the process.
“What a surprise, I never knew there were little people in Dressrosa, and their princess can heal injuries like magic—something out of a fairy tale,” Cabbage commented, glancing between Leo and Princess Mansherry with astonishment.
I smiled at both of them, their dedication lifting my spirits. “You two are incredible. Thank you for everything,” I said softly, my breath steadying.
Leo gave a shy smile, clearly flustered. “It’s nothing, Princess. I’m just glad I can help.”
“Alright, Princess, I’ll need you to turn on your left side so I can tend to your right arm,” Leo instructed gently. I carefully shifted, holding my dress up to cover what was necessary.
“And don’t forget about my right palm, Leo,” I added, watching him as he worked.
He nodded, his focus on stitching up my wounds. “Got it! I won’t miss a thing.”
While I let Leo and Mansherry do their work, I noticed Cabbage glancing toward the palace. His expression seemed distant. “How’s it looking?” I asked, my energy slowly returning, feeling less pain in my arm.
“Honestly, I can’t tell from here,” Cabbage replied, his tone more serious now.
“All done, Princess!” Leo said proudly as he finished stitching up my arm and palm, Mansherry’s healing abilities working wonders to speed up the recovery.
I sat up, holding my front to keep the torn dress in place. “Thank you both so much,” I said with sincerity, extending my hand for them to climb on.
After they hopped off, I turned to Cabbage, feeling a playful smirk form. “Now, about that arrangement regarding your shirt…”
Cabbage smirked back, catching onto my tease. “Oh? Does the princess plan to keep it as a souvenir? I’m starting to think you just wanted an excuse for me to be shirtless,” he quipped with a playful wink.
I rolled my eyes, a chuckle slipping out. “Believe me, I can live without it.”
Cabbage handed me his shirt, still grinning. As I slipped it on, the soft fabric hung loosely, the V-neck dipping just enough to reveal a hint of my chest. It stopped mid-thigh, making me feel somewhat exposed, but it was better than the torn dress.
"Fits like a charm," Cabbage teased, crossing his arms with a smirk.
Law shot him a glare, wincing as Leo continued stitching his arm.
"And done, Law-land!" Leo chirped, while Princess Mansherry used her healing powers to help speed up Law's recovery. After a few moments, the pain in his arm began to ease.
Cabbage and I sat together in a comfortable silence, both of us glancing occasionally toward Law, who lay down on the grass, his eyes fixed on the top of the palace. “They say your arm should be back in working order as soon as the blood begins to circulate,” Cabbage said, casting a glance at Law.
“I know... I'm a doctor,” Law muttered.
I turned to him, placing my hand gently over his, giving it a reassuring squeeze before letting go. Law blinked and glanced at me for a second, his expression softening before he turned his focus back to the palace.
“When I saw that underground port, one thing became clear,” Cabbage started again, his voice serious. “This is much bigger than one man. Even if we defeat Doflamingo, the battle won’t be over. It'll send ripples across the world, and all eyes will be on you and Strawhat."
Law opened his eyes, staring at the sky for a moment, absorbing Cabbage’s words. "Yeah... that was the plan," Law replied quietly, his gaze returning to the palace, his mind already thinking ahead to what came next.
Just then, a loud crash echoed through the town as something massive fell from the palace.
"What the hell just happened?!" I exclaimed, scrambling to my feet despite still feeling the effects of the battle.
"Y/N, get back," Law warned, his tone serious.
"Not when my captain might be down there, Law!" I shot back, glancing to make sure my blades were still secured at my sides.
“Strawhat! He’s so different now. If he can overpower Doflamingo, then he must be strong,” Cabbage noted, his eyes wide with admiration.
“Yeah, but he’s overusing his Haki,” Law pointed out, concern lacing his voice.
I clenched my left hand, feeling the familiar power of the ring coursing through me. “With this damn Birdcage shrinking, it’s only going to make matters worse,” I said, casting a worried glance at Law.
Just then, King Riku’s voice boomed over the chaos, making an announcement to the entire town of Dressrosa. “We just need to deal with one tyrant—Doflamingo! The brave soul facing him is Luffy from the Straw Hats! I must remind you all of one thing: win or lose, try to survive no matter what it takes. I implore you to keep running, for a few minutes, please try to survive!”
His words echoed through the town, a beacon of hope amid the chaos. “There is still hope for us, which is why you mustn't surrender yet!” King Riku urged, his voice steady and strong.
“What a devastating blow…” Cabbage murmured, his expression shifting. “Wait, did Luffy—”
I felt a glimmer of relief that this nightmare might be over as I slowly made my way toward Law and Cabbage. “Wait! Look at the sky!” Law exclaimed, his voice sharp.
“No…” I breathed, my heart sinking as I looked up. “Damn Birdcage is still there!”
“Damn!” I yelled in frustration. “Doflamingo isn’t dead yet.”
“Damn it! We gotta do something!” I insisted, feeling anger boil within me. My eyes fell on Luffy, who was hitting the ground hard. “Luffy!” I shouted. “What happened?!”
“Hahahah!” A voice rang out from above us, and my stomach dropped.
“That’s Jesus Burgess! What’s he doing here?!” Cabbage exclaimed.
“Shit! I gotta do something now!” I declared, ready to charge down to confront him. But as I moved, pain shot through my sides, causing me to stumble back.
“Y/N, wait!” Law warned, concern etching his features.
Suddenly, I sensed someone approaching from my side. A girl with short red hair stood before me. “Who are you?” I demanded, defensive.
Cabbage tensed, ready to stand, but I raised my hand. “Don’t.”
“My, it’s so nice to finally meet you, actually,” she said, stepping forward and wrapping me in a hug. I froze, unsure whether to reciprocate or push her away.
“Oh right!” she exclaimed, stepping back slightly. “My name is Koala,” she introduced, holding up a transponder snail.
Just then, a familiar voice crackled through the device. “Koala, can you hear me?” It was Sabo. My eyes widened, and I noticed Koala’s smile.
“Yeah, I can hear you. Don’t worry, you need to get to downtown. Burgess is on his way to Luffy,” she said urgently.
“I’m on my way!” Sabo replied, determination lacing his tone, ready to protect his brother.
Koala turned to look at me, smiling. I met her gaze with tears in my eyes. "He’s okay," I thought, feeling a wave of relief wash over me.
“Actually, Sabo, before you go, I have someone you might want to hear,” Koala said, smirking as she handed me the transponder snail.
“Koala, I don’t have ti—” he started, but I cut him off.
“Sabo…” I whispered, my heart racing.
“Y/N!” he exclaimed, his voice filled with a mix of relief and anguish. “You’re okay! Are you hurt? Oh my god!”
I chuckled, tears still glistening in my eyes. “I’m fine, Sabo, but I need you to help Luffy. Burgess can’t get to Luffy; I’ll see what I can do with Doflamingo, even if I have to buy some time again.”
“Don’t be stupid, Y/N!” Sabo shot back, frustration and worry evident in his voice.
“I know it’s risky,” I said, determination filling my voice. “But I can’t just sit back while Luffy’s in danger. I have to do something!”
“He’s right!” Law reiterated, his voice cutting through the tension as he eyed me with concern.
“Sabo, just try to keep Burgess off Luffy’s back,” I said, determination clear in my tone. “I’ll handle whatever comes my way up here. You focus on him.”
Sabo let out a short laugh, the kind that said he knew me all too well. “You’ve always been reckless. Even when we first met, you threw yourself headfirst into danger without a second thought.”
I couldn’t help but smirk, rolling my eyes. “I haven’t changed much, have I?”
“Not at all,” he teased through the transponder snail. “Just try not to get captured again. I’ve got enough on my hands without having to worry about saving you.”
I chuckled softly, wiping away the emotional tension that had built up. “I’ll be fine, Sabo. I’ve survived worse. Just get Burgess away from Luffy and we’ll be one step closer to ending this nightmare.”
He let out a sigh, half amused, half exasperated. “Fine, fine. But I swear, Y/N, you’ve got this habit of making things harder for yourself. Just don’t push too far.”
“Look who’s talking,” I shot back, grinning. “You’re not exactly known for playing it safe.”
“That’s fair,” he admitted with a laugh. “Just keep your head on straight. And Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
“Save a little of that fight for when we see each other again, okay? I owe you for always running headfirst into danger.”
I smiled, a deep warmth settling over me. “Deal.”
I handed the transponder snail back to Koala.
“You sure you’ll be alright?” she asked, concern lacing her voice.
I turned behind me to eye both Law and Cabbage. “Yeah, besides I gotta make sure this one…” I said, kneeling down to grab Law’s cheeks, eliciting a slight gasp from him, “makes it out okay as well.”
Law’s cheeks began to turn pink, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at his reaction. “You really have a way of making things interesting, don’t you?” he teased, trying to regain his composure.
“Only the best for you, Law,” I replied, grinning.
“Koala, please make sure you’re safe as well,” I added, smiling at her.
She returned my smile before jumping off the cliff, heading into town to find Sabo. As I turned back to Law and Cabbage, I felt a rush of determination. Just as I was about to sit back down, both Law and I were suddenly teleported to a new location.
“Wait!” I exclaimed as we hit the ground. “You could have told me you were going to shamble us, you know,” I muttered, struggling to get up. I lifted my head and saw someone carrying Luffy, surrounded by others.
“Luffy!” I shouted, starting to make my way toward them.
“Woah! It can’t be! Trafalgar Law, the Warlord, and Princess Y/N! From the strawhat pirates!” someone exclaimed, eyes wide.
“Wait a sec, are you running too far away? Is Strawhat going to get his Haki back or not?” Law asked, irritation lacing his voice.
“Yeah, well, Strawhat said he needed ten minutes, and we have about three and a half left,” the bystander replied.
“Good, I’ll distract Doflamingo then,” I said, clenching my fists as electricity and fire coursed through me.
“Don’t you dare, Y/N!” Law shouted, anguish flooding his voice as he struggled to get up.
“Law, that decision isn’t yours to make. I will protect my captain and you, even if it kills me,” I replied firmly, urgency flooding my heart. “Luffy can handle the rest when the time comes.”
“Damn it, you’re always so reckless!” Law shot back, frustration etched on his face. “You think I can just sit back and watch you throw yourself into danger? What if something happens to you?”
“Something already happened to me, Law!” I snapped, my fears bubbling to the surface. “I’ve been hurt before, and I’m still here! I can’t just do nothing!”
His eyes softened, a storm of emotions swirling within them. “I don’t want to lose you. Not again.”
The weight of his words pressed down on me, and I felt my heart clench. “You won’t lose me, I promise,” I said, trying to reassure him even as uncertainty gnawed at me. “Just trust me.”
He turned to the bystander, his tone commanding. “Give Luffy to me. I’ll take care of everything from here.”
I turned back to Law, wanting to lighten the mood. “Do you still have the tiara I gave you?”
He pulled it out, a flicker of a smile breaking through the tension. “What, you think I’d forget something so precious?”
I took it from him, warmth flooding my chest. Leaning in, I planted a quick kiss on his cheek. “Just making sure you remember me,” I teased, my voice wavering slightly.
He rolled his eyes, but the hint of a smile lingered. “Yeah, yeah.”
“Now, I’m ready.” I clenched my left hand, activating its power as I leaped into the air, determination surging through me, even as Law’s worried gaze burned into my back
I soared through the sky for a moment, scanning for Doflamingo. "Where did this bastard go..." I thought, frustration building.
Just then, I spotted Doflamingo alongside Viola and Rebecca. "Viola, Rebecca?!" I thought, shock coursing through me. What the hell are they doing here?! I watched as Rebecca lunged at Viola with her weapon, and my heart sank. "Shit, she's being controlled," I realized. "Doflamingo!"
I landed behind him, my voice steady despite the chaos. He turned, a mocking smile spreading across his face. “My, well if it isn’t my princess,” he purred, feigning surprise. Doflamingo’s eyes sparkled with amusement as he manipulated Viola’s strings, hanging her helplessly. "Now what brings you here?" he asked, an almost predatory glint in his gaze.
“I came to see you,” I said, infusing my voice with a sultry tone. “You don’t need them. You want someone strong, someone who will give you a real challenge.” I took a deliberate step closer, feeling the tension crackle in the air.
“You’ve changed from the outfit,” he observed, his gaze roving over me with a hunger that sent chills down my spine.
He suddenly released Viola and Rebecca, who rushed to each other. “Viola!” Rebecca yelled, enveloping her in a relieved hug. "Good, they’re safe," I thought, relief washing over me. I glanced at Viola, who looked at me with a mix of confusion and gratitude. I smiled, silently hoping she would understand my intentions.
“Princess, I must say you really do know how to surprise me,” Doflamingo said, a blend of intrigue and desire evident in his voice. His fascination was palpable, and I could sense the shift in his demeanor as I drew closer, determined to keep his focus on me and away from the chaos unfolding around us.
“What’s the matter? Are you not intrigued by your little princess’s transformation?” I teased, stepping even closer, daring him to take the bait.
"I'm not surprised you’re here, but I must say, I've never felt this intense of a rush before until today, Doffy." I stepped closer, my voice steady despite the danger.
He raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. “Is that so? You always were one to draw attention,” he replied, his tone dripping with amusement.
I stepped closer, “When you kissed my neck,” I said, a playful edge to my voice, “I yelped in surprise. I wondered what else you could do with that mouth of yours.” My gaze roamed over him, drinking in his reaction.
Doflamingo chuckled softly, the sound low and dangerous. “You’re playing a dangerous game, princess.”
I continued, undeterred. “When Baby 5 took me to your quarters and I saw how spacious your room was, I couldn’t help but wonder... what if you had come in instead of her? What if it was you giving me the outfit you chose for our little game?” My blades began to glow faintly, a flicker of power at my fingertips.
Doflamingo's eyes darkened, intrigue flickering in their depths. “And as I recall, you said I would be begging for mercy, but let’s be honest: is it mercy you crave, or something more?”
He stepped closer, the tension between us thickening. “And when you found me in that office,” I challenged, “tell me, how hard was it to resist acting on those inner desires that plagued your mind from the moment I set foot in Dressrosa?”
“You want the truth, princess?” His voice was low, a rasp that sent an involuntary shiver through me. “The moment I saw you step foot into Dressrosa, I knew you’d be trouble. But I couldn’t stop thinking about what it would feel like to break you... or to have you willingly surrender.”
His hand moved lower, tracing the line of my collarbone as he spoke. “In that office, I was this close—" he pinched the air between his thumb and forefinger, "—to letting those desires take over. You, standing there, trying to play your games with me... every time you talked back, every glance you threw my way, made it harder not to act.”
He chuckled darkly, his fingers now trailing dangerously close to my throat. “You have no idea how tempting it was to claim you right then and there, make you mine in ways no one else ever could. But patience, my dear, is a virtue—one I rarely indulge in, but for you… I’m willing to wait. Because when I do take you, it will be on my terms, when you least expect it.”
His hand lingered, the air between us growing heavier with each passing second. “I’ve never been one to resist what I want, princess. And I’ve wanted you from the moment I saw that fire in your eyes. You act so tough, so defiant. But deep down, I know there’s a part of you that wants to see how far you can push me... and how far I’ll take you.”
I could feel the heat of his gaze burning through me as he leaned in, his breath hot against my ear. “So tell me, Y/N, what’s more dangerous? The game we’re playing now... or the moment when I finally decide to stop playing and make you mine?”
The weight of his confession hung in the air, thick with tension, as his words wrapped around me like a vice. I could see the hunger in his eyes, a hunger that told me he meant every word.
Doflamingo’s smirk deepened, his eyes darkening with desire. "You really do crave danger, don't you, Princess? Standing here, tempting me like this... Do you even know what you're playing with?"
I tilted my head slightly, a confident smile spreading across my lips. “Oh, I know exactly what I’m playing with, Doffy. It’s the thrill of walking the edge, not knowing if you'll catch me... or let me fall.”
His fingers grazed the collar of my dress shirt, tracing the V-neckline slowly, teasingly. “You’re bold, I’ll give you that. But playing with fire can burn, Princess.”
I leaned in just slightly, closing the distance. “Maybe I like the heat,” I whispered, my voice daring him to cross that line.
Doflamingo’s breath hitched, his restraint cracking as the raw hunger in his gaze flared. “You have no idea what you’re in for,” he growled, stepping even closer until there was nothing but the electric tension between us.
Doflamingo stepped forward, the space between us vanishing in an instant, his presence overpowering. The air around him buzzed with energy, his intent clear. “Doffy,” I began, my voice steady but teasing, “it does make me wonder... what does a warlord, and a former celestial dragon, really know about pleasing a woman like me? Ever pondered that thought?”
His finger traced the edge of my V-neck shirt slowly, almost lazily, sending an involuntary thrill down my spine. His smirk deepened, a wicked gleam flashing in his eyes. “Oh, Princess, you have no idea what you’re playing with. I’ve mastered things that would make your wildest fantasies seem tame.”
He leaned in, close enough for his breath to graze my neck, his voice like velvet, dark and tempting. “Pleasure is a game, and I’ve always been one to rewrite the rules. You say you enjoy danger—well, tell me, Princess, are you ready to dance with the devil himself?”
I felt my heart race as he leaned in, his lips almost brushing against my ear. “You have the power to ignite every desire I have. But be warned, once you step into my world, there’s no turning back.” I subtly clenched my right hand, feeling the strength flow through me.
Doflamingo smirked, his eyes glinting with mischief. Before I could react, he pulled me closer by the waist, catching me off guard. “You know, Princess,” he whispered, his breath warm against my skin, “the closer you get, the more tempting this all becomes.”
I felt a shiver run down my spine as our bodies nearly touched, his grip firm yet surprisingly gentle. “What are you playing at, Doffy?” I managed to ask, keeping my voice steady despite the nerves in me.
He leaned in, his lips brushing against my ear again. “Just exploring all the possibilities. You’re quite the distraction, but a welcome one.”
“Distraction? Or a challenge?” I replied, my mind racing. “I’m not here to make it easy for you.”
He chuckled softly, his eyes darkening with desire. “I wouldn’t want it any other way. But be careful; you might just enjoy the game as much as I do.”
As he held me closer, I felt the power of my blades surging, ready to unleash at any moment. The tension hung thick in the air, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that this dance was only just beginning. Just then, Doflamingo leaned in, placing a kiss on my neck once more, and my heart raced in response.
Instinctively, I wrapped my arms around his neck, holding him in place as I subtly connected my left palm, feeling the energy crackle to life. The electricity surged, glowing with a bright yellow hue as I clenched my right hand tighter, readying my surprise.
“Doffy,” I breathed out, feigning breathlessness. “What do you think happens when desire creates an electric spark?”
His smirk faltered for a moment, intrigue sparking in his eyes. “What are you—”
“Just a little something for you to ponder,” I cut in, my voice low and teasing. “Now, shock!” I exclaimed, unleashing the pent-up energy coursing through me. A powerful jolt of electricity surged toward him, illuminating the space between us.
He stumbled back, eyes wide in disbelief, momentarily caught off guard. I seized the moment, executing a swift back handspring that created distance between us. The tension shifted from seduction to confrontation, and I felt the thrill of the fight ignite my spirit.
“Did you really think I’d let you have your way so easily?” I taunted, my hand glowing in anticipation as I readied myself for whatever he would throw at me next.
Doflamingo regained his footing, a mix of amusement and fury dancing in his eyes. “You’ve got quite the spark, Princess. But you’ll find that playing with fire can lead to some devastating consequences.”
I smirked, holding my ground, unfazed by his words. “What’s wrong, Doffy? I thought you liked a challenge.” My voice was steady, but my heart raced, adrenaline flooding my veins.
Suddenly, Doflamingo vanished from my sight, appearing behind me with lightning speed. My instincts kicked in, and I lifted my right leg, aiming a sharp kick toward his side. He blocked it effortlessly, his smirk widening. I used the momentum to push off him, performing another quick back handspring to put some distance between us.
“Why don’t you be a good girl and come this way,” Doflamingo purred, his voice dripping with dark amusement as he launched a thread-based attack in my direction.
I dodged it with a swift sidestep, the threads barely missing me by inches. “Astounding, ladies and gentlemen! The princess is now facing Doflamingo in a one-on-one combat!” boomed an unexpected voice from above.
“Who the hell…?” I muttered, glancing around, but my brief distraction cost me.
In a flash, Doflamingo’s arm snaked around me, his grip vice-like as he grabbed me and hurled me toward a nearby wall. I crashed into it with brutal force, the impact knocking the wind out of me. I gasped, struggling to regain my breath as I slid down the cracked stone, my body screaming in pain.
“Stay focused, Princess,” Doflamingo taunted, stepping toward me with slow, predatory steps. “It would be a shame for our little game to end so soon.”
His fist swung toward me, but I dodged it just in time, clenching my left hand and leaping into the air to create distance. "You think you can escape me?" Doflamingo sneered, looking up from below, his eyes gleaming with predatory intent.
Every time he sent his strings after me, I dodged them quickly, maneuvering through the air. My heart pounded as I silently urged Luffy to hurry. "Come on, Luffy, we're running out of time," I thought, desperately trying to keep ahead of Doflamingo’s relentless pursuit.
He lifted himself into the air, closing the gap between us with a quick surge of his threads. He swung again, aiming a punch at me, but I blocked it, my arms straining from the impact. “I don’t want to use my blades... not yet,” I thought, trying to hold off the full extent of my power.
Doflamingo's smirk widened as I continued to block his attacks. “My princess, always so defiant. But there’s something you need to understand...” he purred, his voice laced with dark amusement. “In the end, you’ll always end up in my grasp.”
Before I could react, Doflamingo's fist crashed against my cheek, landing with brutal force. The sheer power of his punch sent me hurtling toward the ground. I hit the earth with a loud, painful thud, the impact reverberating through my bones.
The world spun for a moment, my vision blurred as I tried to regain my senses. Pain radiated through my body, but I gritted my teeth, pushing myself to my knees. I wiped the blood from my mouth, glaring up at him.
His laughter echoed around me, a sickening sound that only fueled my determination.
I clenched my right hand once more, feeling the familiar surge of strength travel up my arm. “Doflamingo…” I said, my voice hoarse, coughing slightly from the impact of his last blow.
“It won’t be much longer now!” The loud voice of the announcer echoed through the streets. “Our hero is on his way! Surely, you remember him! Or should I remind you?!”
“Luffy...” I thought, a flicker of hope surging within me. If the announcer was right, Luffy was seconds away from being here. Doflamingo seemed momentarily distracted by the voice, his eyes narrowing as if the mention of Luffy reignited an old fury.
Seeing my chance, I clenched my left hand, the energy surging through me as I pushed off the ground. “Hey, Doffy!” I shouted, getting his attention as I launched myself toward him with everything I had. "Stay focused!"
Before he could react, I landed a solid punch straight to his jaw, sending him crashing to the ground below. I landed, breathing heavily, my fists still crackling with energy. Doflamingo slowly rose, his breath labored as he wiped blood from the corner of his mouth, the fury in his eyes burning hotter than ever.
We were both exhausted, but I couldn’t let up now. Luffy was almost here.
“You’re mine now, Princess!” Doflamingo taunted, closing the distance between us with malicious intent. I braced myself for his attack, but just as his strings reached for me, I felt a sudden shift and everything around me blurred.
I was switched mid-air, landing on top of a nearby building instead of crashing into the ground. Before I could process what had happened, I felt something solid beneath me—someone, and then an arm wrapped tightly around my waist. A sense of familiarity washed over me instantly.
Law had used his powers to switch me with Luffy, which meant Luffy was now ready to face Doflamingo. “Well, well, looks like you just can’t stay out of trouble,” Law teased from beneath me, his usual calm voice now mixed with relief.
I smirked, looking down at him as I realized where I was. “Oh, so you were watching me the whole time, huh?” I said playfully, crossing my arms in a mock display of defiance. His gaze flickered, and I noticed his attention suddenly shift toward my chest, a hint of color rising to his cheeks.
“Caught you staring, huh?” I teased, uncrossing my arms and placing both hands on his chest to give him an even closer view.
Law’s expression shifted as he pulled me closer, his head nestling between my neck and shoulders. He pressed soft kisses along my skin, each one igniting sparks within me. “You should’ve been more careful,” he murmured between kisses, his voice a mixture of concern and desire.
“I’m fine,” I whispered, threading my fingers into the back of his hair and scratching lightly. He let out a soft groan, leaning into my touch as if trying to drown out the worries creeping in.
“Did you really think I’d just sit back and watch?” he said, his kisses trailing lower, punctuating his words with warmth. “You always dive headfirst into danger… why do you have to be so reckless?”
“What can I say? I enjoy a little chaos,” I replied with a teasing grin.
“Stop teasing,” he murmured, frustration mingling with longing as he pressed his lips against my neck again, his breath warm against my skin.
As he continued kissing his way up to my face, I winced slightly, the pain from Doflamingo’s punch flaring as a bruise began to form. Law paused, his expression shifting from longing to worry. “Y/N, are you hurt?” he asked, concern etched across his features, his lips hovering just inches from mine.
“It’s nothing I can’t handle,” I assured him, though the sting was a stark reminder of our reality. His eyes bore into mine, filled with fierce protectiveness that made my heart race.
“I don’t like seeing you in pain,” he murmured, pressing his forehead against mine, the warmth of his presence wrapping around me like a shield. Just as Law was leaning in, both Rebecca and Viola came rushing toward us.
"Princess!" they yelled in unison, breaking the moment. Law muttered under his breath, "Can't have you alone for five minutes, I swear!"
I tried to stand up, but my body gave way, and I landed back in Law's lap once more. "I’m glad you guys are okay!" I said, forcing a smile despite the lingering pain.
"Princess, I have to ask—how did you know what to do with Doflamingo? Even with my clairvoyance, I saw his demeanor shift," Viola questioned, her eyes wide with curiosity.
Law's grip around my waist tightened, his protective nature coming through even now. I took a breath, recalling the tension of the moment. "I knew he was obsessed with me before we got to Dressrosa. And I also knew that when he first captured me, he enjoyed the chase and the thrill of it all."
I looked between Viola and Rebecca, gauging their reactions. "Now, I’ll admit I’m also a woman who enjoys a little bit of thrill and danger, as you can tell with my reckless plans," I smirked playfully. "But I knew that getting him to lower his guard was the tricky part, so the seduction played a heavy hand in my strategy. I needed him to think that all the games he played with me made me crave him."
Viola nodded slowly, her expression a mix of admiration and concern. “You really used his own obsession against him, didn’t you?”
I nodded, my smile turning a bit more serious. “Exactly. Doflamingo thrives on control, but he’s also impulsive when it comes to his desires. If I could make him believe I was intrigued by him, even for a moment, I could manipulate his focus. I didn’t even use my blades for the fight after I shocked him either; my mission was to buy enough time. If it meant distracting him, baiting him with the idea that he had me, then so be it.”
Rebecca leaned in, intrigued. “That’s incredibly risky.”
“Risky is an understatement,” Law interjected, his tone sharp with worry. “You could have gotten yourself killed.”
I waved him off, a playful grin returning. “But it worked, didn’t it? He underestimated me, thinking I was just a pretty face. I knew I had to spark his interest and play to his ego. When I challenged him, that shift in his demeanor—his desire to dominate—became my weapon. Now, I didn’t think you two were both within Doflamingo's range, so that part I had to figure out a way for you to be left out of harm's way.”
Viola leaned back, a thoughtful expression crossing her face. “So, it was a mix of seduction and strategy. You made him believe he was in control, all while plotting your escape.”
“Exactly,” I confirmed. “And I knew that my skills and my defiance would just fuel the fire of his sick desires. He thrives on challenges, and I knew I could make him think I was playing his game while actually planning my next move. The more I made him believe I craved him, the more he would let his guard down. Sometimes, you have to dance with the devil to outsmart him." I shifted out of Law's lap and settled beside him, my breath still heavy from the fight with Doflamingo. I took off my tiara and set it down, leaning back against the wall. “Now all that’s left is for Luffy to kick his ass.”
Just then, the announcer’s voice boomed, “Our champion, our Lucy, is here at last!” I smiled, the sound of Luffy’s name filling me with hope.
But then, Doflamingo’s voice sliced through the moment. “So that’s where you ran off to, Princess!” he shouted, his gaze locking onto Law and me. “You get front row seats for what I’m about to do, and then we can get back to our fun from before.” His laughter sent a chill down my spine.
I tensed, using the wall for support as I stood up. “Luffy... will kick your ass!” I yelled, determination fueling my voice.
Suddenly, Doflamingo unleashed a barrage of strings that sent Luffy crashing into a stone. “Come on, Luffy!” I thought desperately. But then I saw him shift, his body pulsing with energy as he unleashed Fourth Gear once more. The Birdcage was closing in, and my heart raced. “This is it!” Rebecca shouted.
As Luffy and Doflamingo flew into the air, Luffy yelled, “Every time you grab whatever you want and strangle it! You can’t have everything, and you can’t control everyone!” My eyes widened, tears welling as I watched Luffy confront Doflamingo.
“Your twisted games end here!” Luffy shouted, his voice echoing through the arena. “You’ve hurt my friends! You’ve destroyed innocent lives! Just looking at you... makes it harder for me to breath!”
“Kong Gun!” he yelled, and the impact reverberated through us. I held my breath, my heart racing. “Lucy!” the announcer called, and I could feel the energy shift.
“Luffy!” I shouted, my voice carrying hope. “Fight, Lucy!”
The moment Luffy landed a direct hit, sending Doflamingo crashing down, I couldn’t hold back my laughter, tears flowing freely down my cheeks. “He did it!” I cried, dropping to my knees as the weight of the battle finally lifted. Buildings began to crumble around us, the force of Luffy’s attack shaking the ground.
I glanced to my right, seeing both Viola and Rebecca in tears, looking skyward, sharing in the moment of liberation.
“Luffy!” I shouted, scrambling to my feet as he shambled toward us. “You did it, Captain!” I smiled, tears still streaming down my face.
“Strawhat...” Viola murmured, and we exchanged a silent smile, a shared understanding of what this victory meant.
“Look to the sky, Dressrosa! Watch it fade... the Birdcage... and Doflamingo's reign over us!” the announcer proclaimed. “The Dressrosa Defensive War, 2000 wicked pirates versus the fateful warriors who gathered here far and wide... culminating with their leaders: Donquixote Doflamingo versus Lucy! The winner is...”
I turned to Rebecca, tears falling onto Luffy's face. “The winner is... Lucy!”
“It took the announcer long enough to say it…” I said, trying to lighten the mood, even as exhaustion washed over me.
Luffy rested, Rebecca cradling his head in her lap. I slowly pushed myself up, my legs wobbling as the adrenaline faded, replaced by sheer exhaustion. Each step felt heavier than the last. “I think... I think I’m going to—”
Before I could finish, I fell to my knees and then onto the ground.
“Princess!” Viola yelled, rushing to my side. I smiled weakly, surrendering to the exhaustion that enveloped me. It felt so good to let go.
Law POV…
“Y/N!” I yelled, watching as Viola rushed to your side. My heart pounded in my chest; I’d known you would crash eventually. I took a moment to catch my breath, still reeling from the battle.
“Hey Luffy, Y/N! Where are you guys?” I heard Usopp’s voice, his panic cutting through the chaos.
“Hey Zoro! You’re all okay! You heard Luffy knocked the lights out of Doflamingo!” Usopp called out, his relief evident.
“I heard,” Zoro replied, a hint of annoyance in his voice. “And Y/N knocked out a top executive and fought with Doflamingo again. That reckless—”
“That was a super victory for us too!” Franky chimed in, grinning widely.
Viola turned to me, her expression serious. “It’s time we let Strawhat and the princess know they’re both safe, don’t you think?”
I nodded in agreement, a mix of pride and worry swirling within me. “Yeah, it’s time.”
Zoro POV…
“You guys!” a voice called from above.
“It’s Viola!” Usopp shouted, pointing upward. “We’re up here! Both Strawhat and the princess are up here!” she waved, motioning us to come.
Y/N... I thought. Relief washed over me at the sound of her name, the weight of worry lifting slightly. That meant she was okay. We hurried up the building, scaling the steps as fast as we could.
As we reached the top, I called out, “Luffy! Y/N!” But what I saw instead was both of you resting. Rebecca was sitting close, watching over you and Luffy with a protective look on her face.
I walked toward you both, my eyes immediately landing on Y/N. “Y/N...” I whispered softly as you stirred slightly, your eyes fluttering. My heart clenched at the sight of the bruise forming on your cheek, and the other visible wounds that littered your body.
“She fought hard... the princess,” Rebecca’s voice broke my thoughts, and I glanced at her.
“She saved both Viola and me, and even faced Doflamingo once more,” she added, her voice filled with admiration.
I couldn’t help but smirk a little, my chest swelling with pride as I looked down at you. I knelt beside you, carefully lifting you into my arms. “That’s my girl,” I whispered, feeling an overwhelming sense of pride as I held you close. You were reckless, stubborn, but you were strong—stronger than anyone I knew.
Usopp began placing Luffy on top of the bird, carefully settling him down. Luffy, even in his exhaustion, muttered something about needing meat, his usual post-battle cravings kicking in. Law was next, his energy drained, but he still managed to climb onto the bird without much help.
When it was time for Y/N, I turned to Usopp. “I’ll take her,” I said firmly. I gently lifted Y/N, positioning her behind me with her face resting against my back. Her legs wrapped loosely around my waist, and I could feel her soft, steady breathing as she leaned into me.
As Y/N’s weight pressed gently against my back, her arms resting limply around my shoulders, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of responsibility for her. I adjusted her again, making sure she was secure. Her breath was warm against my neck, reminding me of how close she had come to danger today.
Usopp gave another amused glance in my direction. “Seriously, man, if Sanji saw this, he’d be flipping out. Probably light five cigarettes at once.”
I snorted, shaking my head. “Yeah, well, he’s not here, so I don’t have to deal with his whining.”
I could feel Y/N’s grip tighten slightly, even though she was still half-conscious, her body leaning into mine for support. “Just rest,” I muttered quietly, feeling the weight of the fight and the exhaustion settling in for all of us.
“Let’s get out of here,” I said, glancing at Usopp, as I made sure Y/N wouldn’t slip, her cheek resting gently against my back.
Hours passed as we finally made it to a small cottage—Kyros’ house. Luffy lay bandaged in a bed, completely out of it, while Law was similarly patched up, occasionally flicking his eyes open. You were resting your head on my lap, your breathing steady but still showing signs of strain from the battle. Every once in a while, you shifted, your face scrunching slightly as though reliving the fight in your dreams.
Kyros handed out blankets, and I carefully draped one over you, ensuring it covered your exposed body. You nuzzled closer to me for warmth, the movement subtle, but enough for me to notice. My hand instinctively moved to your head, gently running my fingers through your hair in an attempt to soothe you.
"Roronoa!" Law’s voice came out in a harsh whisper, pulling my attention away from you. I turned to him, smirking slightly, still petting your head.
"What?" I muttered, keeping my tone low as I looked down at you, hoping you would settle back into a peaceful rest.
Law's eyes flickered with something other than exhaustion—jealousy. He glanced between us, his expression strained, trying to keep his usual calm, but there was a certain tightness to his jaw. "You’re really getting comfortable, huh?" he muttered, his voice barely hiding the edge of annoyance.
I raised an eyebrow, amused by his reaction. "She’s resting," I said, keeping my tone light, but there was no denying the satisfaction I felt. His jealousy was clear, and the corners of my mouth tugged into a smirk as I continued to stroke your hair.
Soon after, Law drifted off to sleep, along with Kyros and Usopp. The small cottage was quiet, save for the crackling of the fire and the sound of our comrades breathing softly in their slumber.
“Can’t say I blame him,” Robin remarked, her voice soft yet amused as she nodded toward Law.
“Money’s on him sleeping longer than anybody,” Franky added, adjusting his mechanical eye with a chuckle.
Just as the atmosphere began to settle, the door creaked open. I instinctively moved, carefully laying you down on the floor as I got ready to defend, my hand hovering near my swords.
"Catch!" A bottle of wine was thrown my way, and I snatched it out of the air just as a familiar figure stepped inside.
"Sabo!" Robin exclaimed, rising from her seat.
"You know him?" I asked, still holding the bottle, my eyes narrowing as I assessed him.
“That’s Luffy’s brother,” Robin explained.
“Luffy’s brother?” Franky and I both shouted in unison, causing you to stir, groaning softly from the sudden noise.
Sabo stepped forward, quietly closing the door behind him. He placed his hat down and made his way toward Luffy, sitting beside his sleeping brother. “He’s with the Revolutionary Army, isn’t he?” Franky asked, still fiddling with his eye.
Sabo nodded. “Correct. But I didn’t just come to see Luffy. I came to see her as well, before I leave,” he said, standing and walking toward you.
"How do you know her?" Robin asked, curiosity coloring her tone.
Sabo hesitated for a moment before answering. “Well, it’s kind of a long story, but to sum it up, I was with her on the island where she trained under the alias ‘Sam.’” He knelt down beside you, gently lifting you into his arms. As if on instinct, your hands reached for his shirt, gripping it softly. Sabo chuckled, stroking your hair. “Looks like she still remembers when I used to do this.”
A faint smile appeared on your lips, the tension in your features easing as Sabo continued to hold you.
“So you’re the guy she told us about,” I said, taking a swig of the wine, watching the scene unfold.
“She only knew me as Sam. She never knew me as Sabo,” he explained, his gaze never leaving you. “When I saw her here in Dressrosa, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I’ve wanted to tell her the truth for a long time… and when I finally did, she forgave me.”
He gently traced the anklet around your ankle, the one you always wore, even in battle. “That anklet she wears... that was my farewell gift to her.”
“So, you’re the one who taught her that monstrous kick ability?” Franky chimed in, his voice half-impressed, half-joking.
Sabo smiled again. “Yeah... that was me,” he admitted, though his smile seemed tinged with something deeper, something bittersweet. He looked down at you once more, his hold on you tightening slightly, as if letting go would cause more pain than he could bear.
“Did you know she loves to be held like this?” Sabo said quietly, his voice softer now, as though he were talking to himself as much as to us. “I learned that back on the island after a few months. She used to have recurring nightmares... nightmares of Sabaody.”
He paused, swallowing the emotion building in his throat before continuing. “She’d come looking for me in King’s palace. When she found me, whether I was in the office or my room, she’d always ask if she could stay with me. I didn’t mind… It made her feel safe.”
A tear slipped from Sabo’s eye, falling and landing gently on your face as he smiled wistfully. "Did you guys know she’d train from sunrise until midnight? Relentless. King’s men didn’t hold back at all, and neither did King. But over time, he started to go a little easier on her. He couldn’t help but soften up to her." He chuckled, shaking his head as more memories flooded back.
I took a swig from the bottle in my hand, curiosity getting the better of me. “Why didn’t you say goodbye that day?”
Sabo’s face grew serious. “I couldn’t. I had to finish the mission I was on. I stayed for two years to be with her, but I knew if I said goodbye, I wouldn’t have been able to leave. I had to play the role, stay undercover, and make sure she didn’t know who I really was. I was just the nurse to her then.”
With that, Sabo gently laid you back down and pulled a familiar bottle from his coat pocket—the ointment you’d often use on the ship. As he began to carefully unwrap your bandages, revealing the bruises and injuries that covered your torso and arm, he worked with precision, applying the ointment as though it were second nature.
“She got hurt pretty badly once,” Sabo said, his voice soft. “She refused to let anyone help her, so I snuck in while she was asleep and patched her up. The next morning, she was up and moving again, completely clueless that I’d been there.”
Robin watched him closely, smiling. “It sounds like you share a lot of memories with Y/N.”
Sabo’s gaze lingered on you, his voice softening even further. “More than I could count, Robin.” He laughed quietly. “But if she remembers this, she’ll probably punch me for being ‘too soft’ again.”
I smirked, leaning back and taking another swig. “Looks like you’ve got your hands full.”
Sabo chuckled, looking down at you. “Yeah… but I wouldn’t have it any other way. She's stubborn, reckless, and drives me crazy—but that’s what makes her... her.”
Once Sabo finished rebandaging you, he gently placed you back on his chest, your breathing more even now, the faint smile returning to your face. His fingers lightly stroked your hair, and he seemed reluctant to move.
Robin’s voice cut through the silence, gentle but curious. “Do you really have to go so soon, before Luffy and Y/N wake up?”
Sabo nodded, his expression serious. “Yeah, I do. There’s some trouble heading toward Dressrosa as we speak.”
Franky raised an eyebrow. “Who’s causing trouble now?”
“CP0,” Sabo said, and Robin tensed immediately, her sharp eyes narrowing.
I took another swig from the bottle, listening closely. “I remember the mix-up with Doflamingo,” I muttered. “They played a key role in that, didn’t they?”
Sabo nodded grimly. “Exactly. They’re not here for sightseeing. CP0 is coming for us, and things are going to get crazy in a day or two.”
I grunted, leaning back. “Well, we weren’t planning on sticking around much longer, anyway.”
Franky crossed his arms, eyeing Sabo. “I’m still wrapping my head around the fact that you’re Luffy’s brother, and on top of that, you know Y/N too?”
Sabo smiled, but it was tinged with sadness. “Yeah... It’s a long story, but Luffy, Ace, and I were inseparable as kids. We made a vow over a cup of sake to be brothers, and we spent our childhood dreaming of setting out to sea together.”
He paused, his voice quieter now. “Everyone thought I died, though. When my ship got hit by a Celestial Dragon, I was lucky enough to survive, but I didn’t remember anything for years. By the time I regained my memories, I found out Ace was gone...” His grip around you tightened a little, and you furrowed your brows in response, still fast asleep.
The room fell silent as we all absorbed his words. The weight of his memories, and his loss, was palpable. Sabo took a deep breath, looking down at you with a soft expression. “But at least I found Luffy again…and Y/N.” This reckless woman,” he chuckled, “she kind of reminds me of myself in some ways. Always going headfirst, without thinking things through.” He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, radiating warmth and care.
"She's a heavy sleeper," Franky remarked, causing a few chuckles to ripple through the group.
“Lady Y/N must have been utterly exhausted after what she did,” Kinemon added earnestly. “From being taken by Doflamingo to having him obsess over her every move, getting people to follow her and chase her—all while also getting extremely injured—it must have been a lot for her.”
I nodded, watching her peaceful face resting against Sabo’s chest. “Yeah, she really went all out,” I said, crossing my arms. “She fought hard and still managed to get back up after facing Doflamingo again. That takes guts.”
"On top of that, she even beat one of Doflamingo's top executives with the blades King gave her," I added, recalling the brilliant flashes of red lightning and blue hue that erupted from the palace during the fight. "That was insane! It was like she harnessed the power of the sky itself.”
Sabo's eyes widened in shock at my words, his expression shifting to one of deep contemplation. “You saw the blue hue and red lightning?” he asked, his voice slightly strained. “King mentioned that once those two were harnessed, the remaining colors would show up soon. Each energy she channels, whether she’s holding the blades or not, enhances her ability, making her more of a threat than ever.”
“Really?” Franky said, his curiosity piqued. “That sounds incredible!”
Sabo nodded, his gaze turning distant. “I remember when he was going to give her those blades; those were the same blades used in her training. She’d get so mad because she didn’t understand or didn’t get the moves right. But look at her now. She’s grown so much.”
“Yeah, she’s fearless,” I added, glancing back at the others. “But it’s that same fearlessness that gets her in trouble sometimes.”
Sabo looked down at Y/N, a mix of pride and concern clouding his features. “I just wish she wouldn’t push herself so hard.
“I truly don’t want to say goodbye just yet, especially as it would only add to Y/N’s frustration at me since I did it once,” Sabo said, his voice laced with reluctance as he gently placed her back on the floor. Y/N stirred slightly at the movement, but her eyelids remained heavy.
“Robin, I’m leaving these things to you,” he continued, removing his coat and handing her two Vivre Cards—one for Luffy and the other for Y/N—along with a letter written specifically for her. “You sure about this, Sabo?” Robin asked, a hint of concern creeping into her voice.
“Yeah, I have to,” he replied, his expression somber.
As he spoke, I stood up, feeling an urge to stop him. “As much as I hate it, I have to leave,” he said, making his way toward the door. He paused, glancing back at us, the weight of his decision evident in his eyes. With a heavy heart, he closed the door softly behind him.
Suddenly, a groan escaped Y/N as she sat up, rubbing her eyes to adjust to her surroundings. Her gaze wandered until it landed on Sabo’s coat, and then her eyes shot to the door, realization dawning on her. She quickly threw off her blanket and bolted toward the door, panic etched on her face.
“Y/N, wait!” I shouted, but it was too late; she had already shut the door, her determination overriding my warning.
I shared a glance with the others, worry etched across our faces. “What’s she thinking?” Franky muttered, but I could already guess the answer. She wasn’t going to let Sabo slip away without a fight.
Y/N POV:
“So you think you can just walk out without saying goodbye?” I called out, frustration bubbling to the surface as I watched Sabo from behind. My heart raced, the tension palpable in the air between us.
“It’s not what it looks like,” he replied with a sigh, turning to face me. His expression was a mix of regret and determination, but all I felt was anger simmering beneath the surface.
“Oh really?! Because it’s exactly what it looks like, Sabo!” I shot back, my arms crossed defensively. The glow from my blades intensified, casting a green hue around me, a reflection of the power and emotions swirling within.
Sabo’s eyes widened slightly at the sight of my blades lighting up. “Y/N, I—”
“Why do you keep doing this?” I whispered, a tear slipping down my cheek, leaving a warm trail in its wake. “You did it back when I was leaving and didn’t say goodbye, and now you’re doing it again!” My body shook with the intensity of my emotions, frustration and hurt colliding within me.
Sabo stepped closer, his hand reaching out to caress my cheek, gently wiping away the tear that had fallen. “I don’t like saying goodbye, that’s why,” he whispered, his voice barely audible, filled with an aching sincerity. “To me, goodbyes mean I will never get to see you again.”
As he spoke, tears began to well in his eyes, mirroring my own pain. The vulnerability in his expression tugged at my heartstrings, and I felt the weight of his words settle between us.
“Then don’t say goodbye,” I urged, my voice trembling as I fought against the emotions threatening to overwhelm me.
As Sabo leaned in, our lips met in a tender kiss, and I felt the warmth of his emotions flooding through me. I kissed him back, pouring every ounce of my feelings into that moment. When we finally pulled away, our foreheads resting against each other, he looked deep into my eyes, a mix of determination and sorrow on his face.
“I have to go,” he said, his voice thick with unspoken emotions. “But I promise, once we’ve accomplished what we hope for, we will reunite someday. I won’t let this be the end for us.”
I nodded, my heart aching at the thought of him leaving but feeling a flicker of hope at his words. “Promise me you’ll stay safe,” I urged, my voice trembling slightly. “And don’t forget about me.”
He smiled softly, the corners of his eyes crinkling in that way I had grown to love. “I could never forget you, Y/N. You’re too important to me.”
I reached into my pocket and pulled out a small piece of paper, scribbling my number on it. “Here,” I said, handing it to him. “Call me when you can. No matter what happens, I want to hear from you.”
Sabo took the paper, his expression warm and sincere. “I will. I promise.”
As Sabo turned to leave, he paused, a playful glint returning to his eyes. “Wait,” he said, stepping back towards me. “I almost forgot something.”
Before I could process what was happening, he leaned in and captured my lips again in a soft kiss. My heart raced at the sudden affection, and I melted into it, savoring the warmth of his presence.
When he pulled away, he smirked slightly, a hint of mischief in his expression. “And this one’s for the good luck kiss I wanted back in Dressrosa.”
He leaned in again, pressing his lips to mine with a deeper intensity. I kissed him back, pouring all my unspoken feelings into that moment, feeling as if we were suspended in time.
When we finally broke apart, both of us breathless, I could see the mix of emotions on his face—hope, determination, and a hint of sorrow. “Now I really have to go,” he said, his voice softening. “But remember, we’ll reunite one day.”
“I’ll hold you to that,” I replied, my heart swelling with warmth despite the ache of his impending departure.
slowly made my way inside, where Robin’s eyes were on me, concern etched across her face as she noticed the turmoil within me.
Once inside, I slid down the door and buried my face in my hands, the weight of the moment crashing down. As tears began to flow, I felt a gentle presence beside me. Robin knelt down and wrapped her arms around me, pulling me close.
“It’s okay, Y/N,” she whispered softly, her voice soothing like a gentle tide. “Let it all out.”
I let every emotion pour into her shoulder, the frustration, the longing, the hope—everything I had bottled up since Sabo’s unexpected arrival. Robin held me tightly, her presence a steady anchor in the storm of my feelings.
“He cares about you, you know,” she said, her words a balm to my aching heart.
I nodded, taking comfort in her words, though the ache of separation still lingered. I finally understood why Sabo hadn’t said goodbye before; it hurt too much. Saying goodbye meant accepting that I might not see him again, and the thought was unbearable.
With a heavy heart, I whispered, “It hurts to say goodbye, Robin.”
“It always does,” she replied gently.

Ranking the Conspirators and Avengers of Julius Cesar by fuckability
Happy 2,068th anniversary of Caesar’s assassination! To celebrate I’ll be ranking the main 3 conspirators who attacked Julius Ceasar while he was still alive and the men of the second triumvirate plus Agrippa on how fuckable they are to me. I’ll be judging them on attractiveness, conviction to the conspiracy, and how that conviction translates to them in bed. I will be using historical representation, modern reconstructions, and modern media depictions.
Side note: Roman’s viewed sexuality on a binary system from penetrator/dominant to penetrated/submissive. Basically, for a Roman man to be seen as manly he has to be the top in his sexual relationships with women or lower born men. So, a woman being on top, oral sex, or anything a little kinky would be seen as deviant.
7. Lepidus
During the assassination of Julius Caesar, Lepidus was Caesar’s right hand man. He had an army just outside of Rome when Caesar was assassinated. Despite starting off in a strong political position, Lepidus had little initiative in keeping power and was easily ousted by Anthony and Octavian. (Big L for loosing to Anthony). Lepidus did avoid Anthony’s fate as he was the head priest of Rome until his death in 13 BC, which means he lived for 14 years after Octavius became Emperor.
Attractiveness
Lepidus is just not that hot. His statue with that neck beard is almost as bad as Nero’s! The HBO Rome casting doesn’t stick very close to the bust but the actor doesn’t stand out as super good looking. 4/10
Conviction
Lepidus was very much a follower in his partner ship with Anthony and then in the Second triumvirate with Anthony and Octavius. Lepidus started out in a very strong position being the only one with an army and probably could have used said army to reestablish peace and take out the conspirators. His lack of conviction probably is the only thing that saved him from being murdered by Anthony or Octavius as he wasn’t a threat to either and was happy to play second fiddle. 2/10
In bed
Lepidus probably wasn’t that good to have in bed. He’d do what any Roman was expect to do, be on top so only missionary or doggy, not letting his partner take the lead, and no fingering or oral. He calls sex “coupling” because he thinks it sounds more posh compared to other words. He can get the job done but it won’t be a great experience. 2/10
Overall: 2.5/10
Boring, traditional, and not exciting at all.
6. Brutus
Brutus was one of the main leaders of the conspiracy to assassinate Julius Caesar. Brutus was a close friend to Caesar, possibly being seen as a surrogate son because Caesar was having a long affair with his mom and was advancing Brutus’s political career.
Attractiveness
Brutus is definitely a good looking guy, he has a very nice appealing face and the reconstruction still looks hot, although a bit too old for my 22 y/o butt. The actor for Brutus in HBO Rome looks similar enough to the bust. Overall good looking guy but doesn’t stand out much from a crowd. 7/10
Conviction
Brutus’s conviction to the conspiracy is weird. Brutus as a person was slow to act and often forced to react. He needed someone telling him what to do otherwise he fell apart. I believe his main motivation to the conspiracy was saving Julius Caesar from himself. He saw Caesar trying to position himself as a king and thought killing him would keep him from commuting that sin. The well being of the Republic and what it would take to rebuild it came second. This is seen with Brutus being opposed to killing Anthony along with Caesar which left Anthony in a strong political position to paint the conspirators as traitors to Caesar. 4/10
In bed
I think Brutus is very clueless in bed. He doesn’t know anything beyond simple penetration and will need to be taught how to actually please his partner. Unlike Lepidus, Brutus is willing to learn and improve but it’s an uphill battle where you have you drag him to the top. Want him to finger you? You have to literally guide his hand through the whole process and the second you stop leading him, he’s immediately poking at your belly button asking if this is the clit. He’ll walk out mid session because he’s so overwhelmed and just can’t seem to learn. Also unwilling to try anything that’s too radical. So no riding him, oral, or use of toys for this Roman boy. Also will call his mom afterwards to just chat. No aftercare cuddles! 1/10
Overall: 4/10
Cute to look at but total nightmare to fuck.
5. Octavius
Octavius was Caesar’s grandnephew (grandson of Caesar’s sister Julia) and was posthumously adopted by Caesar in his will. At just 19, Octavius became the richest man in Rome and maneuvered himself to becoming the emperor of Rome without ever needing to declare himself as such. Through his use of political power and favors, he became the de facto ruler of Rome while keeping the illusion of a republic. Big chaos is a ladder energy and Octavius is a climber
Attractiveness
Octavius just looks off to me. His eyes are too big, a little too far apart, his ears are too large. He looks weirdly young yet old, 13 going on 30. The actor from HBO Rome is definitely hotter than the reconstruction but he still has the baby face. Idk he’s just kind of creepy, probably that murderous aura in his eyes. 4/10
Conviction
Octavius was the most convicted to getting both justice for his adoptive father and fulfilling his father’s goal of being the king of Rome. Octavius was willing to ally with anyone to get power and would backstab anyone he needed to to get power. 9/10
In Bed
Octavius is definitely a stick in the mud when it comes to sex. He was married 3 times but only had one child with his second wife. He also tried to make Rome more “morally righteous” by outlawing adultery which was a very common practice for upper class Romans. He wants to only have sex in missionary or doggy and he needs to have a spirited political debate to get going. Stops mid act to write his thoughts down before returning. Very boring sex which needs a lot of exhausting debating of politics to actually get going. 1/10
Overall: 4.5/10
Ambitious guy but his first and only love is his pursuit of power.
4. Marcus Antonius
Marcus Antonius or Marc Antony was Julius Caesar’s right hand man until he displeased Caesar by being a total drunk and terrible at governing. At the time of Caesar’s death, Marc Antony was Caesar’s co consul.
Attractiveness
Antony is so hot. Big muscular man with dark curly hair? He’s just my type! I wish the hbo actor had curly hair but other than that he’s pretty good looking. I can see why Cleopatra kept him around, he’s such a hunk. 9/10
Conviction
Antony started off as very convicted and determined to avenge Caesar and gain power. He got the people of Rome on his side with his funeral speech. He was able to out maneuver Cicero and kill him. But despite all this, once Antony achieved the heights of his power, he kind of floundered. He spent his time partying instead of preparing for war with Octavius. While Ambitious, he looses his conviction once he has nothing to work towards. 5/10
In bed
Antony is definitely a freak in bed. He was married five times with 9 children between them! He was also in a lot of sexual scandals. As a youth, Cicero said he played wife to his friend Curio. This is probably political slander as Cicero hated Antony and calling someone the bottom in a gay relationship was a very big insult to Roman men as it meant being passive and thus, woman like. Antony knows what he’s doing and isn’t afraid to get experimental. He doesn’t care about Roman social norms when it comes to sex and so nothing is stopping him from pleasing his partner. During Antony’s climb to power, sex is less common and more focused on connection and escaping the world with his lover. But after Antony has come to the height of his power, sex becomes much more indulgent. The emotional connection with his partner becomes less important as he chases his own orgasm. Your pleasure feels like an afterthought instead of the main focus of sex. Definitely asks you if you think his dad would be proud of him but if you say yes he’ll say you obviously did not know his father. While 9/10 at the start, it turns to a 4/10 for a final score of 6.5/10
Overall: objectively 7/10, subjectively 5.5/10
When Antony has a goal to work towards, he is basically perfect but once he doesn’t have anyone or anything pushing him, he flounders and succumbs to his own vices. A little too much like myself.
3. Cassius Longinus
Cassius Longinus, the soldier in the conspirators turned on Caesar for possibly several reasons. Still, the one I like the most is him being upset he wasn’t advancing politically as fast as he thought he should.
Attractiveness
Cassius's statue and modern reconstruction show how a statue can make someone look a lot different. The lines around his mouth are pronounced in both versions but the reconstruction makes it look a lot more natural and not weird like with the statue. The HBO actor also has a similar face shape and details and he looks very good. 7/10
Conviction
This man is dedicated!! Not only did he want to take out Caesar but also Marc Antony and other Caesarean to make sure the conspirators were filling in the power vacuum. The only problem is that Cassius didn’t do this. He was convinced by Brutus not to take out more Caesareans, not taking Antony out when he was taking power, and not to send aid to Cicero during Octavius’s rise to power. In the end, Cassius was dedicated more to Brutus than the conspiracy (which supports my theory that Cassius loved Brutus in a romantic way but I digress) in the end, all conspiracy and no stabbies 6/10.
In Bed
Cassius is definitely an explorative lover but is still really strict about staying the dominate one. He also gets a little aggressive and possessive in bed easily. Definitely would be into bdsm with a focus on a command kink. He’s a soldier and likes it when his partner follows his orders. Definitely a good lay 7/10
Overall: 6.66/10
A head strong lover who’s conviction leads him to do crazy things. The type of guy who’d break my heart.
2. Decimus Brutus
Decius Brutus is the third forgotten member of the conspiracy. He is a distant cousin to Brutus. Decimus started out as a Caesarean and fought for Caesar in the Gallic wars which gained him favor with Caesar. Decimus was so close to Caesar that he was appointed to take over the transalpine Gaul Provence after Caesar. But Decimus became disillusioned with Caesar and saw him rising to become a tyrant and strives to stop that.
Attractiveness
Sadly, Decimus Brutus is over shadowed by Brutus and Cassius in many ways. We don’t have any busts (that I could find and confirmed were Decimus and not the other Brutus) and Wikipedia only has two coins with his face minted on them. Decimus doesn’t fair any better in modern media. He’s not in HBO’s Rome, Shakespeare mistakenly calls him Decius, and is mostly remembered in literature. Because of this lack of material to judge, I won’t be scoring him in this section n/a
Conviction
Despite Decimus usually being overlooked, forgotten, or merged with his cousin Brutus, was very instrumental to the conspiracy. Decimus was a Cesarean who fought for Caesar in Gaul and during the Civil war. Decimus became disillusioned with Caesar and decided that he needed to do something about it. Further more, Decimus convinced Caesar to attend the senate meeting on the Ides instead of staying home after his wife had a nightmare about his death. The place he faulted is after the assassination where he decided to leave and take up his position as Governor of transalpine Gaul (which Caesar appointed him to) instead of trying to keep power out of Antony’s hands. This decision led to him being killed and his head and hands sent back to Rome. 8/10, he came, he saw, he murdered but it just wasn’t enough
In Bed
Decimus definitely is adventurous in bed. He is willing to change his approach to pleasing his partner as his goal is always making sure they are satisfied. He will let you dominate him and will dominate you if you want. I also think he’d be into roleplay as he likes getting into character and pretending to be someone else, which he’s good at. He also needs a lot of cuddles after sex to make sure you feel loved. He’s a devoted lover and a cuddle bug 8/10
Overall: 8/10 while we have no clear surviving depictions of Decimus Brutus and how he’s often ignored in adaptations, he’s still a really interesting character who I like a lot because I love overlooked side characters.
1. Marcus Agrippa
Agrippa, childhood friend of Octavius, his loyal right hand man, builder of Rome, defender of Italia, and Octavius’s son in law? Yeah, Octavius had his best friend marry his daughter in a move that showed he wanted Agrippa to be the next emperor or guide the next emperor. But Agrippa passed before Octavius and left a massive hole in his succession plans.
Attractiveness
Agrippa is so hot. Not only is he physically attractive but he is emotionally attractive! This is the most loyal Roman man ever! Not once did he think about betraying his best friend to become emperor himself. Agrippa still supported Octavius even when he was sent away from the capitol in a sort of exile to fight. But I’m getting side tracked.
Agrippa’s busts portray this strong jawed masculine man who has these sad soulful eyes. Almost as if he can see the distraction his family would face. All his sons would die before becoming adults, his daughters used as marriage pounds, and his wife put into another unhappy marriage to her step bro. The HBO actor in Rome captures Agrippa’s look so well! Oh to be in a museum with this bust, I would kiss it! 10/10 no notes
Conviction
While Agrippa didn’t come into Rome until after Caesar was assassinated, he was dedicated to serving Octavius’ grind to power. No matter how many times Octavius pushed him aside or lost, Agrippa always came back. Even when he was essentially co-emperor with Augustus, he never pushed for having more power than Augustus. .......... kingdom of the planet of the apes thoughts
noa
great new protagonist. excited to see how he evolves as a character. he's definitely The New Caesar, but his gentler personality is a welcome change.
damn somebody else CAN actually hit the andy serkis notes for playing an ape. props to this actor.
glad he isn't caesar's descendant and that his clan's totally apart from caesar's tribe. thank you for expanding the world instead of star warsing it. -- and for calling out the obsession with nostalgia via proximus.
his arc was great. questioning the state of things and wanting something better should hopefully spell good things for the development of the ape society in the reboots. more on that in a sec.
that or he's about to have one hell of a disillusionment arc.
these movies keep coming up with clever ways to distinguish their ape characters. the bald spot, green eyes and armband being his thing are his.
his tribe and their eagle culture is fascinating. the concept of apes using abandoned skyscrapers as towers for bird husbandry comes from a history channel documentary i remember watching as a kid and i love seeing it pop up here.
even the eagle song, which could've been so cheesy, works in context.
even his name is so well thought-out. noa as in noah, who guides people through a flood; which noa does at the climax. and noa as in 'no', the first word an ape spoke out loud in the first trilogy, which is paralleled when mae shouts his name- the first word a human speaks in the second trilogy.
.... anaya and soona were certainly there.
the soona romance felt out of nowhere. like oh ok so the one girl in the friend group is the future gf. we're doing that. fine.
and all that just so her designated bf can emotionally cheat on her with a human for two more movies. girl. get out of there now.
yes i think noa and mae had chemistry. pota is a franchise that simply does interspecies romance. a lot. you just have to roll with it if you're gonna be here.
i was wondering when that would make it to the movies again, and it seems like they're trying to see how much they can get away with.
like it's 100% intentional that they have young adults who aren't married and have no kids as the pro and deuteragonist in this trilogy. they know about the chemistry. they animated him checking her out like that on purpose. they made them co-leads for a reason. they did a parallel to the "NO" scene in rise with mae calling noa's name. they gave mae a beat of jealousy when she learned about him and soona. he's catching her on horseback and giving her a token of clothing from his clan. he's unable to choose between his childhood sweetheart and the girl he's been traveling with for weeks. there's a layer of innuendo in the climb to access the military silo that had me cackling.
they know what they're doing.
it's probably not gonna be a literal ship, more like a symbolic one. i don't want them to kiss or fuck or say i love you i want them to stare at each other, obsess over each other, debate the nature of humanity and sentience, touch foreheads, save each other, try to kill each other and die in each other's arms. they're gonna make their symbolic breakup everybody's problem.
general worldbuilding thoughts
maybe it's just that i've been getting back into fantasy but there's a very... familiar vibe to the rhythms of the story. a noble prince, a fat goofy monk and a belle dam sans merci setting off to fight an evil king. but it's apes!
damn we're really so desperate for gay rep that we're taking raka saying "he was my village" about a guy he was close to and running with it huh
(👀 at noa and mae encountering another unconventional couple. it just keeps stacking up.)
okay. then we have to talk about how the only possibly queer character is the guy who can't even admit that he's gay even though none of the characters should have a problem with it, who drowns halfway through the movie. and is played by the only person of color in the main cast. oh so i guess these apes aren't that different huh.
no this is such a gripe i have with pota reboot worldbuilding. the apes are starting a new civilization... and building it like humans. everyone's straight, even though bonobos are famously up for anything and even chimps, orangutans and gorillas have been known to get gay. apparently monogomous mates are a thing even though apes don't do that. all power is held by male characters, even though bonobos are matriarchal, orangutans wouldn't give a shit either way and female chimps may not lead their troops but they sure as shit don't hide at home with the babies. yeah okay ~they don't have to behave like their species~ but... isn't that a missed opportunity? if you're going to build a new society based on a species of animal, wouldn't it be more interesting to build it around how those animals behave? or at least do something different than the same system we have?
at least this reboot doesn't fridge any of the female characters. was sure noa's mom and soona were toast. still think they won't make it to the end of this trilogy but they got through part 1.
.... so are gibbons evolved too. i think raka mentioned gibbons. wtf would that be like. skinny little dudes with big voices. can we meet some.
mae
a great deuteragonist. another gripe i had about the caesar trilogy was how male-centric it was. no seriously i was sitting in the theater ten years ago watching dawn, thinking, those humans could've sent a team of women up to restart the dam and this whole mess could've been different because koba's specifically triggered by the presence of men. because men were the people abusing him. (and because bonobos follow the females in the group)
not a coincidence that when the apes adopt a human into their tribe, it's a little girl.
so kotpota having a female deuteragonist was very needed and even something as small as noa's mom being a leader figure was too. the bar's in hell. don't love soona being The Designated Girlfriend, and mae only interacting with guys though. please let her interact with women.
seeing kingdom actually use that angle, of apes being calmer and more accepting of women than men, and having mae exploit that with those puppy eyes? oh that was smart. even if they didn't realize they were writing it that way i'll take it.
another smart detail: the bunker being in the plains. humans were grassland apes. makes sense that would be where they'd continue to exist, and where the other species would avoid.
adding onto that: humans are good swimmers compared to other primates. wish more was done with that given how much of the story revolves around being near water. i'm just saying i wish we got a scene where mae casually swims across the river while raka and noa are like. trying to inch their way over a fallen tree or something. different apes are good at different things. let's see more of that.
anyway love the mae twist. love that she isn't an astronaut-- but is setting in motion events that will lead to their return. and that there are pockets of intelligent humans out there.
extremely funny that she keeps accumulating dirt and has the rattiest side braid. this girl simply does not bathe.
i am staring hard at the implications behind mae always wearing eagle clan blue after she accepts noa's mom's blanket. it's the blanket, then the shirt, then the poncho. hm.
i'm wondering if there are in fact cultures where humans and apes are living together peacefully. or if this is the story of how one is created.
regardless it looks like the conflict's going to shape up to be humans trying to reclaim earth and apes fighting to maintain their new lead. cool.
still annoying that even in the apocalypse women have tweezed eyebrows and hairless armpits. okay.
i'm so curious about mae. how much of her backstory was true and how much was a lie. her group being massacred was clearly true, but her mother being dead may not be. she's clearly isolated from the bunker civilization given that she isn't allowed inside, so is she just... alone. unable to go home again. do they think she's contaminated. is she going to be stuck outside alone in a hostile world for years until the next movie comes out. what's going on there.
anyway the foiling of her and noa is great. smart but naive rule-following son of the chief who's never had a hard day in his life, vs bitter manipulative grimy girl who grew up in constant fear. that's juicy. he can fix her! she can make him worse!
she's clearly not evil. she's just been through some shit. you can see the wheels turning in her head as she realizes raka and noa are genuinely kind, and where her fears about apes are coming from when she literally watches them hunt other humans for sport, had her group murdered by them last week and just narrowly escaped being killed by them. her paranoia and bitterness is actually justified. when she lies to noa, it's because she has good reason to fear him and her distrust of him is well-founded. when she blows up the dam to destroy the weapons inside the vault, it was the right move because proximus absolutely would have used them to enslave more apes. and when she conceals that she has the gun, i don't blame her. (also worth noting that she takes the smallest one in the locker and leaves the rest)
... love that she's the one who made the choice for noa about ~which girl will you choose to kill~. nah bitch. she's choosing YOU.
and she WAS honest to noa about what she wanted from the bunker. dude's not gonna get what a hard drive is, so "book that lets us speak" WAS accurate.
(... very clever of the movie to have noa and co pick up a book of abcs, aka, a book that teaches you how to translate letters into sounds, and see images of apes in cages. the misunderstanding makes sense: he thinks she was here for that. and symbolically, she kind of is.)
the mission she's on IS that serious. fuck yeah getting the satellites working so we can speak to other survivors is worth taking all those risks.
.... and fuck yeah it's gonna lead to some conflict. gonna be interesting to see what mae does when that breaks out.
if she's getting a redemption arc, i love it. if she's about to turn into a tragic villain, i love it.
she's the koba of this trilogy.
(... and since koba was gay as hell for caesar. you know that that means.)
proximus
great villain. great personality. great example of the apes getting in on serfdom and organized religion. he's got an immortan joe flavoring that's exciting.
i know i'm the only person who gives a shit about this but noa should absolutely have been a bonobo and proximus should've been a chimp. putting aside that we're really doing that Good Chimp Evil Bonobo shit again... the softboy from a pacifistic clan being a bonobo just makes more sense because bonobos are the peaceful apes. like yeah ~they don't have to be exactly like the species they're based on~ but when are we gonna get a good bonobo depiction. why is every bonobo an evil wannabe dictator.
and the violent caesar wannabe being a literal chimp and using that heritage to try to claim an inherent connection to the ape messiah feels like a missed opportunity.
especially when you consider that the bronze age apes are already starting to take after humans in their social structure: the apes, all on their own, just invented organized religion, monks, animal husbandry, kingdoms, patriarchy and raiding parties that capture and forcibly convert other tribes to make them into slave labor.
... odds are speciesism is next. it's already there with the humans. how long's it gonna take before they start insisting that certain apes can only serve certain roles in society. we already have it as a given that the chimp Must Be The Protagonist and the bonobo Must Be The Antagonist, that the always-male gorilla's the enforcer, and that the orangutan's always a chill smart guy. what happens if someone doesn't fit that caste system, or if the system fragments into tribes that don't mix species. probably not anything good.
... at what point are we gonna talk about how humans are apes too. it's not the 60s anymore, let's go into that.
or how we really needed to expand the 'proximus wants to be like humans and that's why he's bad' theme to 'any ape that becomes as evolved socially as humans will end up emulating human civilization in all its best and worst ways because humanity isn't the problem, power is'
i hope we still get there. the reboot spent an entire trilogy building up how human apes are and how apelike humans are; let's see the lines start to blur.
anyway frank gallagher being his human advisor was fun. proximus has a real king louie vibe that's funny and eerie.
did proximus and frank gallagher explore each others bodies
of course this fucker's obsessed with the roman empire.
.... still think there's a missed opportunity. like. think about it: proximus wants to be human and is obsessed with evolution and speeding ahead through it by any means necessary. and with bringing an intelligent female human to his court alive and mostly unharmed, and keeping her in a gilded cage. and his manservant's warning said human female captive that whatever the fuck proximus wants with her, it might be worse than death.
all i'm saying is, when proximus literally pulled a 'bathe her and bring her to me' and had her eating at his table as he was breathing down her neck right in front of the guy who has a crush on her who he's trying to break the spirit of, talking about speedrunning evolution and how superior he thinks humans are, preening about how he's made himself a kingdom, sneering about how interesting it is when humans and apes pair up, and. uh. the innuendo in him saying he wants to speed up evolution by forcing his way into an enclosed chamber that's important to mae that she desperately wants to keep him away from that she insists is only for humans (... which she will let a different ape into anyway later that night by clinging to noa as he... you know. gets her there. as they're soaking wet.)
look i was waiting for him to drop the bombshell that he's looking for a human queen and has decided that he wants mae.
you know what that implies.
i wish they'd gone there. it's not even new territory for this franchise!
it would've given mae a visceral reason to snap necks and blow shit up that the audience would understand a lot easier than amorphous ~mistrust of the apes~ -- you really needed a concrete example of what mae personally is afraid of, and this was the best opportunity to give her that while disrupting as little of the story as possible. it would've taken one line of dialogue and maybe one gesture from him to pull that off.
it hammers in that proximus really does want to repeat the worst aspects of human civilization. which contrasts him to noa, a chance to do things differently. the law is wrong, and whatnot. what's the point of starting over if you're going to do it all the same.
it gives proximus another level of menace. fast way to switch the audience's perception from 'he's a dick but he's fun to watch' to 'oh yeah this guy needs to die.'
and since you're clearly playing with interspecies relationships, you gotta establish that they're going to start happening. this would've been a good opportunity to say "yes, we're going there" and show the audience what a bad one would look like, so they can recognize that the good one is different.
predictions.
... ok so beneath the planet of the apes is next, right? and then conquest to close out the middle chapter trilogy?
my wild guess is they'll focus on mae and her bunker people to contrast noa and his clan, and they'll have a female human antagonist to balance out the male bonobo. possibly dichen lachman's character.
maybe they'll drop a male human love interest in for mae to balance things out. another layer of plausible deniability. also it would be extremely funny if he and soona met and were like 'wait a damn minute'
… if they’re really doing a beauty and the beast, what if he’s the gaston figure
and to really drive the foils home, this time noa's gonna have trust issues and instigate the shady fuckup that results in the climax.
and then in the third, there'll be another war that the apes, in some form, will win. and noa and mae will either be trying to prevent it or leading their factions into a death spiral. fun either way.
they won't ever Go There with them being a couple. like no way would they have the balls to do it, and soona being the out-of-nowhere gf for noa pretty much confirms it. unless she's fridged. (man i hope she dumps him)
but their dynamic's got that vibe for a reason. i wouldn't be shocked if they ride that ambiguity through the trilogy and then have their historical interpretations in poto 7-9 be assumed to have been a couple, the same way caesar's been reinterpreted-- either the story of a human-ape relationship that made it possible for their species to live together, or a cautionary tale about Why We Do Not Mix. or springing some indication that the first human-ape hybrid came from them after the credits roll on the third movie, assuming they survive it. which i doubt.
part of me really fucking wonders if the twist for this reboot's going to be that apes and humans DO find a way to live together and noa and mae do succeed at getting their respective factions to live together. maybe it will be some romeo and juliet/uniting the tribes through symbolic marriage shit. feels like the fullest encapsulation of the do-things-differently theme they're playing with in kotpota.
or maybe they'll kill each other. which would also be fun but in a tragedy rubberneck way.
either way i'm excited. i missed these movies!

Aww blue eyes is such a softie 🥺 he just needs to be held! - ✨
You're right ✨. HE DOES.
Blue Eyes had absolutely no idea how he managed to convince you to go with him and Ash in the early morning to go fishing. He had told you that it was the best time of day to go before the river was planted with other Apes that would cause the fish to scatter like crazy. That’s all that was said and now you were packed, rather warmly mind you, tight in your winter jacket that you had managed to scour from an abandoned retail store about a year ago. In your right hand was your spear, lighter and shorter in stature to Blue’s or Ash’s, given the smaller nature of your human hands. Blue had courteously given it to you after noticing you struggle to fish with the larger variants. He relished in the small silence as you looked at it with wide eyes taking it into your hand, his fingers brushing yours for just a second before you smiled. That expression you gave him when you received the gift gave the Ape enough food for thought. He dwindled on it for a few days afterwards, falling in and of what felt like consciousness when your smile flashed in his mind. Ash had known what Blue did and teased him relentlessly, Blue coming back to retort with a simple ‘shut up’. What he did on his own time, with you or without, was not Ash’s business.
At the moment, Blue Eyes thought about it long and hard, and this was surely the first time you were going to use it. A tiny bit of pride hit his chest and lingered rather uncomfortably unsure how to process it in the situation. He was a proud Ape regardless; he was the son of the Ape King, thus making him a Prince in his own right. Just something about you using a weapon he had made specifically for you? Blue Eyes shook his head. You were simply accepting of the gift out of politeness, Blue remembering something his Father had said about that, about gift giving. You were using it because it was easier. It was simple and easy to explain away the feeling that he had towards you. The young Chimp lingered his eyes up the horizon, blue gaze appearing brighter than usual as the sun hit them and you found yourself star-struck looking at him. Ash nudged you forward, right out of your trance with what could only be described as a chuckle. If your feelings for Blue Eyes were any more obvious, Caesar would have to step in and tell you to pick your jaw up off the floor. Feeling a small blush creep along your cheeks, you glanced at Ash who gave you an all knowing grin. Cheekily, you smiled back at him in your own nefarious way and dug the shaft of your spear into the ground to give you some leverage up the hill. Ash signed at you with one hand, noticing that Blue Eyes was intently focused on making sure that the area was safe before proceeding onwards. You were only about a click away from your destination, having left so early to get there.
‘You think… he is…’ The sign he gave you was not one that was in your dictionary and it took your powers of deduction to figure out that Ash was heavily implying your attraction to his closest friend, noting that his body language was playful, teasing and all-knowing in a way, the sign you had no familiarity with being accompanied by Ash pushing his chest out to appear more broad, his teeth baring you a laugh. Your mouth flew open as you sputtered quietly. Not enough for Blue to hear you ahead, but enough to give Ash a chortle. ‘Do not!’ You signed defensively, the Ape next to you shaking his head at your adamant denial.
‘So strong,’ You were being mocked playfully, ‘Blue Eyes, save me.’ Ash pretended to throw himself at you in some gesture that had to be how he imagined you’d throw yourself at Blue Eyes given the opportunity. You were heated- not angry, but embarrassed. You couldn’t help it. As much as you denied his words and actions, Ash was right.
‘Do not tell him.’
‘Will not.’ Ash was slow with his signing now, taking it upon himself to act as some bridge between the two of you. He was mildly tired from being stuck in the middle of the almost sickly glances you gave each other, of awkward encounters. He’d rather stroke the fire a bit just to see which one of you was going to crumble. You, with you obviousness or Blue Eyes with his obliviousness. He was your metaphorical wing-man as he told you, ‘Hard to tell Blue Eyes anything about you. You tell him.’
