it still makes me genuinely offended that DAVG opens on Varric narrating about Solas and going "Solas is very against slavery, one of the only thing we agree on", because i've seen people say "well yeah i hope so it's the bare minimum" and like
Literally half the cast of DAI for example, yknow, the game Solas and Varric met on, were pro-slavery in one shape or form. The one thing DAVG doesn't tell you is what Solas considers to be Slavery to start with, because it is how some companions will tell you "yeah i'm against slavery" and then will talk about somehow removing someone's freedom completely in one shape or form. Look at DAI's Solas' banters with Dorian (who's in DAVG and is a slavery abolitionist SPECIFICALLY, as said in the books, because Solas changed his mind in DAI) or with Iron Bull and you'll learn a lot.
"the one thing we agreed on" is super fucking funny from the character who has always famously been a Centrist, who genuinely didn't want to listen to Anders in da2 when Anders was talking about the inherent slavery of the Circles, and, if Hawke sides with the System rather than the oppressed in da2, Varric will disapprove of Mage Freedom in DAI, which is one of the type of slavery Solas is fighting against for example. Just because the game doesn't allow you to import Varric's past doesn't erase that Varric is a centrist as fuck.
Like sorry it's not our fault DAVG have the most innoffensive companion cast in the whole franchise that you don't know how it's like to have companions with actual offensive opinions that exists to challenge your point of view but that doesn't mean you know exactly how DA companions usually work and why it's an important part of Solas' character.
And sorry also that the game talks so little about Slavery and the multiple ways it manifest in Thedas but that doesn't mean you should just take that at face value.

putting together a grocery order this week like

#maybe THIS time I will cook all the food and eat all the food like an adult#the tovala meals I started about a year ago ended up being a sweet spot for me prep-wise#like it's real food enough that I don't feel like shit eating it#but the basics of 'put raw protein in tin put sauce/spices on protein put protein in smart oven press button' were doable for me#so I'm trying to now take that and segue into cheaper options#using my own protein and other premade sauces and spice mixes#I can still use tovala's presets so it's still hopefully just going to be protein + topping + button#and if i'm lucky then the same setting will cook some frozen veggies#I'm really just trying to reduce prep as much as humanly possible without eating fully just only preprepared foods#which are generally expensive and unhealthy#tovala meals work really well for me but they're pricey so#here's hoping this past year has trained me well enough that I can make this transition lmao#I have a tendency to be like 'no now I'm gonna COOK like an ADULT' but then I run out of spoons#and the food goes bad and I feel even worse ;A;#I aim too high I think#so I am going to aim as low as possible while still eating legit food now lmao#protein + topping + button

i am slow cooking the most delicious of concoctions in the kitchen rn
(my tags are so long lol whole half ass recipe down there)
#idk its some bastardized recipe for something called mongolian beef#well can it really be called bastardized when i actually fuckin improved it#like all there was originally was fucking soy sauce garlic brown sugar and onion#LITERALLY NO SEASONING#so i took my earned skills and actuallly made it good#the sauce is now flavorful and doesnt taste like garlic soywater#(the meat gets slow cooked in the sauce thats how i know how the sauce tastes)#added a teeny bit of mustard powder and cumin(half TBsp) added some ginger and onion powder(TBsp) and upgraded garlic to black garlic(TB)#it contained 1/2 cup of soy and 1/3 cup of Brown sugar#also replaced the water with beef broth(half cup)#theres also some oil(i did reg Veggie oil cause i dont like Sesame/ 1TB)#you serve ontop some seasoned/fried rice and mixed peppers/veggies thatve been lightly seasoned and fried in a skillet#the meat(1 1/4 Lb.) gets cleaned and sliced into strips#you leave the strips in a heavy salt solution to leach it/tenderize it(you can use other methods but this was what i had on hand) then rins#(you leave it in the solution for ATLEAST 30 minutes)#pat the strips down dry and using a 1/4 cup of Corn starch you coat the strips entirely#you then put the meat into your sauce and stir it around until the meat is entirely covered in it#then slow cook for however long you want(im doing 8 hours for some REAL tender shit)#alot of these measurements were eyed balled (except starch and liquids)[im skilled at this]#i will update yall once ive tasted the finished product#i went a little light on the seasoning but i dont have certain ingredients i want/can obtain so i had to make do(plus my parents cant shiit#DO NOT ADD EXTRA SALT TO THE DISH#leaching the meat and the soy sauce already has enough salt content#THE STARCH IS NECESSARY PART OF THE DISH#you can achieve black garlic by slow cooking regular garlic FOR WEEKS#longer = better#also i recommend using minced Ginger instead of powder for better flavour

I've by now become so wary of trans people and enbies on social media, especially Jewish ones. I'm like "this person is GOING to be on their Harry Potter bullshit and trigger the hell out of my OCD" and my hackles go up automatically. Then my OCD goes "haha you hate them because they're Jewish and/or trans, you're an antisemitic transphobe so they're clearly right about people who defend HP! SUFFER bitch!" Cue hell loop until my brain is flayed over anything nobody actually even said or did.
I don't even LIKE HP that much anymore, why is wanting to stop having PTSD episodes about stupid shit the thing that also dropkicks me down seven circles of hell??? It's made all the so-called "leftist" enclaves of the internet a minefield. Why are people with OCD everyone's favourite collateral when it comes to stuff shitty rich assholes do? Is it so fucking hard to stop making up thought crimes to attack people over??
It's an extra layer of horrible when the same people have no problems applying "no ethical consumption under capitalism" to stuff like Coca Cola and Nestlé products. Y'all can't possibly live without child slavery chocolate or making brown people drink Nestlé's toxic filth or anything that's subjecting Indigenous communities and people in entire Global South continents to long, lingering, horrible deaths, but this one franchise whose author royalties are funding the UK transphobic lobby is the one line that matters. Fuck all the trans people in those places I guess. Every single Global North consumer moral policing is western leftists's dehumanization of our people writ large. Fuck all of you.

It always seems a bit unbalanced on The Great Food Truck Race when there will be multiple teams who are cooking a wide variety of complex dishes with 10 different components and a bunch of prep work, and then there's that one team who like... exclusively serves plain crepes with some premade nutella on them, or plain waffles with just some whipped cream and cut up strawberries lol...
#AND then they'll be the winning team or whatever and its like... wow... imagine that... I wonder how its possible that they can get#more dishes out faster than the other teams... hrrmm.... lol#Not that they aren't still doing work like. obviously it's still hard and there's still a sales component and other stuff to be done#but It's just kind of unbalanced seeming when one group is serving like grilled shrimp sandwich with 3 homemade sauces and a#slaw and two sides and the other people are like... slicing fruit and drizzling a bottle of hersheys chocolate syrup on top of some thing#they just threw in a waffle maker for a few minutes#You see the footage of the teams cooking and everyone is like prepping a ton of different things and meat and vegetables and they have#boiling pots and pans and fryers going and tossing stuff in bowls and compiling these multi component dishes#and then That One Team is always just casually slicing bananas or doing some whipped cream in a bowl gbjhbhj#They usually dont even make their own caramel or chocolate sauces or anything. Nutella out of a jar babey!#So all you're really Making is like... whipped cream. and some sort of batter (waffle. crepe. etc)#If I got placed in a competition like that and I found out one of my opponents just sold waffles or pancake sticks or etc#like that I would just be like... okay.. I'm out then. bye. OR I would pivot and be like.. right I shall remove all complexity from my menu#whatsoever and just start selling plain balls of fried dough with powdered sugar or plain fries with nothing on them or something lol#update: OH my god.. one of these teams on a newer season is selling a 'bonus add on' where you can add#cinnamon sugar and caramel syrup (possibly not even home made by them???? just from a bottle) for $5 extra on your order#If I bought a $12 waffle from a food truck and they were like 'hey do you want to upgrade? for only $5 we'll drizzle a teaspoon#of caramel and sprinkle a little sugar and cinnamon on there!' I feel like I would cancel my order and walk away.#that is a $1 add on at MOST.. for a freaking DRIZZLE of caramel sauce LOL#and of course this team is in the top 3... squirrel.... come ON...#Which I know all these shows are fake and bad and whatever. I dont watch them seriously. I think I liked the first few seasons#but then anything past like season 4 (or whenever they started having established people who already ran food trucks on there#instead of taking a bunch of peope who had never run a food truck before and giving them one - which is a much more equal footing#premise to me) I have just been increasingly annoyed at and I really just have the show on for background noise#whilst doing chores or something and am not genuinely paying that much attention but... my god.. At least try to pretend its fair lol#WHICH I KNOWW... you can say 'well the other teams could do similar if they wanted.' or blah blah. tehcnically it's THEIR choice to#make stuff from scratch and not sell a bunch of packaged frozen chicken wings dropped into a fryer over a shitty 6min waffle or etc.#but... #rat rambles#oni posting#guy who constantly talks abt the questionable ethics of the duplicant project and relating projects when the inevitable trajectory that it#has pointed out several times is followed :0#also do know I actually was in the files looking at stuff I just saw that the in game name for this log was literally ulti and had to doubl#check that it was actually in game before I started yapping abt it#anyways it makes sense that dupes and dupe related technology would be considered for use outside of space exploration but knowing for sure#that not only were they being considered but prototypes and such were being actively made and tested is soooo interesting in a fucked up wa#combined with that one other log it seems like bionic dupes were likely in development for various sorts of labor supplementation#which can further be seen in the humanitarian aid log where the idea of bionic labor supplementation was copied from gravitas by the#vertex institute so in many ways this is the only form of duplicant that the greater public could have any vague knowledge on#I'm very interested to see how the gravitas vertex institute beef grows btw I <3 fictional political drama#and I say political since these sorts of institutions seem to have a lot of influence and power on oni earth and the vertex institute is#evidently involved in the fuel wars in some way and gravitas with the temporal bow also likely has a strong political hand as well#to be clear I don't think gravitas could end the wars even if jackie did try based on what we've seen but that doesn't mean that it can't#influence things and I especially feel like with how much gravitas has been able to do they probably at least have some allies#which is why I do feel like jackie probably at least stopped having stopping the wars as a pressing goal at some point since the presence o#the fuel wars and fuel shortages gives gravitas that much more power and influence#aka more resources aka more room to chase after whatever carrot of progress jackie cares most abt this week#y'know saying all of this is making me realize that is kind of just what real life tech giants are up to huh. fun world we live in#hey at least as far as we know gravitas hasn't done a literal coup so they have that going for them at least#I do like the look at wider oni earth stuff but I do also hope they don't get too lost in the sauce with it#I very much like only getting small glimpses into gravitas and oni earth so I hope after this vertex institute arc they scale back again#not that it would be the end of the world if they didn't but I don't want oni to get stuck in that loop of trying to go bigger and bigger#until eventually it circles back around to being nothing yknow?#I don't think it will to be clear I think them having the vertex institute be relevant makes sense considering its been mentioned before#so I think this is just one of the things they wanted to explore for a long while similar to ceres#but I do worry abt having more of these sorts of secondary story lines in the future so I kind of hope we just. don't get more after this#again it'd be fine if we did it's just not ideal imo

I may have done what felt like the bare minimum today (even though I actually did a good bit more than that)
But after dinner I took a quick shower and then relaxed in a bath with some incense for a while
And then I felt better about what I accomplished for the day! Yay!
I also made a spreadsheet for goals that I want to accomplish for 2025! So that’s cool!
#I actually did get a lot done today#I got out of bed#I got dressed#I was supposed to work today but snowy roads#so no work for me#I cleaned a dirty sauce pan real well so it looks almost like new#and I also unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher#and I worked on a x stitch project for a second#and I did a load of laundry!#that reminds me to finish the rest of it tomorrow!#this is a lot wow#wolf barks
