Ugh. Sarge Steel USED to actually be one of the more moral of DC’s various government/spy characters. (In as much as anyone who does that kind of work can be)
But we can’t have nice things, I guess.

Fawcett and Quality comics both haven't really had their day in the sun. Besides Plastic Man and the whole Marvel family, of course. I still can't figure out how to make a marvel family reading order, anyways. I managed to make one for many other characters, but I can't figure out Fawcett's Marvel Family. I think there's too many books, and my brain keeps getting distracted before i get to it.
But anyways, I think Charlton Comics has actually had a lot more success. Captain Atom, Blue Beetle and The Question have all had their day in the sun. And hell, even Peacemaker had his moment due to that tv show recently (i actually really like the concept behind peacemaker, and he might be one of charlton's underappreciated characters). Still, Charlton had characters we don't mention. Nightshade, Sarge Steel, Judomaster, Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt, etc. So we could really at least try to bring back these characters, or at least reprint their old stuff.

Heroes & Villains The DC Animated Universe - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Sargent Steel
Following the dissolution of the shadowy governmental program known as Cadmus, a new branch of military intelligence was formed to monitor the activities of super powered individuals.  This new division was called ARGUS and was headed by the former CIA operative and decorated soldier known only as Sarge Steel.  At some point in his career, Steel lost his left hand and utilized a robotic prosthetic.
Looking to not make the same mistakes as his predecessor, Amanda Waller, Steel maintained good working relations with the hero community and used their help and support whenever necessary.  Steel appeared to hold particular admiration for The Batman and likewise Batman had trust in Steel.
In a tale that may or may not be an official part of the DCAU continuity, Poison Ivy and The Floral Man had abducted a scientist who was researching the process that transformed Alec Holland into The Swamp Thing. Sarge Steel learned of this development and knew that nothing good could come of it.  As such he alerted Batman and sent the Dark Knight in pursuit of Poison Ivy so to stop whatever calamity she had in store.
Actor John DiMaggio provided the voice for Sarge Steel.  The character appearing in the animated feature, Batman and Harley Quinn.

Originally called "Blockbuster Weekly," Comics Cavalcade would have starred the Charlton Action Heroes and Superman, a weekly book that was a pre-cursor to Action Comics Weekly and the more recent 52. Plans fell through however, and though some finished pages exist as well as a cover drawn by Dave Gibbons, the project was a no-go. The Question was to be written in this weekly series by Mike W. Barr and drawn by Stan Woch.
