Rin is still kidnapped by the blasted Iwagakure-nin and Obito and Kakashi still attempt to save her (Kakashi only joining after the Uchiha’s passionate Babble no Jutsu).

Had a dream today and I'm evolving it as I go here

The main idea that Rin didn't die when she tried to unalive herself by Kakashi's hand, but Obito was already traumatized and got in with Madara's Moon Eye plan. So yada-yada, she's the jinchuriki of Sanbi. BUT the difference was that she decided to come out of the closet (a real tight one cuz of her clan but she almost just DIED what to regret now) that she's actually a guy. So FTM Rin guys. Rin is he/him from now on.

He wouldn't change his personality and crush on Kakashi much. Dude is a medic, have you met medics? My extended family has a lot of medics in ER and other and let me tell you, they're ruthless and give 0 fucks.

Oh and since he's a medic he has top notch access to remove his own boobs and change his hormones fucking manually.

I think he would rethink his crush on Kakashi, like, man, he's a loser, plus it's hard to crush on someone who you thought killed you (even tho you made him) AND Kakashi has doomed love with 'dead' Obito and it's a bummer.

Idk about his name tho, he probably would change it just to, unknowingly, create more confusion for poor Obito, who is SURE that Rin is dead-dead and fucking Konoha didn't even made a grave for her and Kakashi doesn't even VISIT.

Madara and Zetsu obviously don't tell him about his development. They don't need him to have a hope in this world again.

Kakashi is just glad that he didn't kill his teammate and maybe they connect better since "Rin" (listen i NEED a name for him, but i have 0 ideas about meaning or what ever. maybe he'd take something to honor Obito's memory?) doesn't crush on him anymore and maybe he's trans too?? idk about it yet but he might act warmer to "Rin" now.

So Obito is just confused, like WHO is this dude from Nohara clan who is now with Kakashi ALL the time (they're still best friends). He doesn't connect that this brown haired (!) medic (!!) from Nohara clan (!!!) with the same marks (!!!) same age as them (!!!!!) might be Rin. like no, nope, Rin a nice gentle lady, not this smoking dude who yells at Kakashi and curses at him cuz he run away from hospital again.

So yeah Obito is just not impressed. But intrigued. And jealous. He stalks Kakashi AND this guy all the time. May develop a crush on both, cuz "Rin" is still the same at his core.

Kakashi would still go in ANBU cuz Minato asked him (still not sure about it, like yeah lets put deeply traumatized 13 yo in assasin squad good job) and stuff.

So idk how canon would go from there, like i doubt that Minato would let 14 yo jinchuriki near another one at this tense situation, even tho "Rin" could've help.

So yeah Kushiha and Minato die, "Rin" barely holds onto the Sanbi but Obito finds out that the guy is holding them. He doesn't connects the dots. Or he does? His mind just CAN'T hold on to the fact that his Rin MIGHT survived.

But maybe "Rin" was closer to the place where they sealed Kuubi in Naruto (maybe he ran there cuz there's Kuubi rampaging and he HAS to help) so Minato entrusted Naruto to him, not to fucking Sandaime.

So yeah, now "Rin" is Naruto's legal dad at the age of 14 and no one can fucking take him away cuz a) it was Minato's dying wish; and b) just fucking TRY to peer "Rin" away from Naruto, you'll get your hand bitten off and NO arguments work, cuz "Rin", who was trained by Kushina in jinchuriki stuff, can make some sort of turtle shield and he hides in it with his new baby and no one can do anything.

And no one can protect baby jinchuriki better than the other jinchuriki so it's fine. Everyone just accepts it.

Naruto is bullied less but I think no one can tell him about his parents cuz Sandaime sucks ass. But "Rin" drops HUGE hints cuz he hates Sandaime now too. Like no shit Tsunade left.

Idk what would happen with Obito if he finds out about "Rin's" identity. he'd come back crawling and crying probably. Maybe try to kidnap him and cry more in Kamui.

I think I’ve rin sensei’d too close to the sun.

despite coming off as a much more “normal” and kind person than kakashi in canon, sensei rin is about the same really. on the outside/with her initial introduction she’s kinder certainly but she’s just as brutal with her testing and expectations. rin hasn’t dealt with kids ever in her life unless ur counting when she was a kid dealing with other kids. she’s been anbu since she was fourteen, and she’s only off the anbu hook now so she can deal with teach the village’s junior jinchuriki and the genin team he’s on (for convenience.) she’s had no time to chill out or anything. She’s brutual genjutsu’ing sakura like kakashi in canon. if she’s not actually doing worse. Naruto swinging his arms around like crazy: “this is a good way to break ur arm ^_^ do u wanna break ur arm?” and like. She’s like the only jounin sensei with any kind of med nin knowledge Which she’s upfront about but instead of using it to be like “dw I can heal u any time whenever ^_^” with little scratches like a stereotype she’s back to the “break your arm” thing. she doesn’t even have to take you to the hospital! she can fix the arm she just broke! convenient huh?

she’s a nightmare.

shes even more ominous than kakashi in canon. kk in canon is “I’m not telling you about me” at the start, he’s always been Like That— but rin goes “oh I like reading, and I like the seeea, I also enjoy going out for nice dinner.” pretending like she’s a normal person and so it’s more jarring when she starts tweaking a little. she also talks to trees? very odd. Wonder why she does that. she also knows the anbu. she calls one of them “kitty.” the kids don’t get her at all.

Land of waves and zabuza is fun. she’s not known like kk in canon, as a jinchuriki she’s very Under Wraps (and I also like. Abiding. By what the freaking anbu shouldve been.) right out the gate in canon land of waves, zabuza is like ouhhh it’s the copy nin our battle shall be legendary! but rin it’s like okay. some girl. Yeah let’s fight or whatever. and eventually she gets her recognition by being sanbi jinchuriki. yknow. the sanbi that’s a turtle that she got from the mist while she’s fighting a rouge mist nin. zabuza is like omg… the lost jinchuriki…. Rin can’t copy paste mind game zabuza like kk in canon, but yknow. She’s jinchuriki of The Turtle so she’s got suiton to rival zabuza’s and it goes about the way in canon where she beats him to where haku has to step in.

She similarly crashes out like kakashi due to having a.. not great seal. Like Naruto’s seal in canon is balanced in. Whatever way that I don’t currently remember— but rin’s is not. her seal was made to be a bomb, while minato and kushina modified it so she could have some control it’s not great. so certain ways she uses the sanbi chakra can really fuck her over, and the way she used it to get a leg up over zabuza was one of those fucky ways.

rin doesn’t need a recovery period like kakashi. (she heals fast. Cool! Naruto does that too! Why is that? uhh idk about u Naruto but mine is because. Of an advanced med nin technique. Yeah.) but they still stick around bc rin knows zabuzas not really dead, and him knowing of her jinchuriki status is Bad so she’s gotta stay around until he comes back. which he hopefully does…. Blah blah blah land of waves my beloved…

Rin being pulled out of anbu to “teach” Naruto is so funny btw cuz like. She’s not really even doing any kind of jinchuriki training, she’s been told to “teach the team” while keeping an eye on naruto and being instructed to do the same kind of restraining techniques as kakashi in canon— “she has good odds against the Kyuubi because she’s Also a jinchuriki” (which is so funny. yeah yeah the unbalanced sealed sanbi has a chance against the fucking Kyuubi.) when she asks if she’ll do the thing she was told she’d be doing, any kind of actual “jinchuriki training” is pushed off for “when he’s actually ready.” (Like that’ll ever happen. Like it matters if he’s ready or not. Rin wasn’t ready when she got stuck to the sanbi.)

At this point I don’t really remember what the anbu like. mystery status? Whatever?? was in og natuto. so like. The kids being like ???!?!?! that rin “knows” some anbu thing is up in the air. on one hand like. In shippuden anbu are much more everywhere but in the original i think it was different… aughh. My idea is that rin knowing some anbu is something that makes her more unsettling, especially because she seems awfully chummy. like there’s literally an anbu agent she calls kitty. KITTY.

On the second hand— do the kids even know/are they supposed to know about the anbu?? I don’t remember!!!

whatever!!!! In my head while the kids might be the lowest rank of ninja, they are still ninja so surely they’d know about the anbu. they’d have to as part of the rank. if we’re doing even more of an “in my head” thing. pre graduation the anbu are just a rumor, and if you graduate and get to be a ninja then well yeah u get to know about the ninja ranks. The anbu being a scary rumor keeps it’s tone though even after confirmation, so Rin knowing anbu is scary. (I think being anbu is something you’re Not supposed to talk about ? (For all that actually keeps true in canon…) so it’s not like she can be like “I was anbu until around last week lol” and scare the kids further. but it Would be funny.)

Rin reads porn like kakashi does, she just hides it under the cover of like a cheesy romance novel to not draw attention. she drinks, she smokes. she’s got vices, that girl.

There’s a joke where she tells off asuma for smoking in front of the kids, (rin is a med nin! smoking is bad, she should be a good example since she has to take care of kids now!) and asuma fucking 🤨’s her because they were chainsmoking last week but overall says nothing. Keep your “good” image rin. Whatever.

Now if we want to get into the team minato of it all—— I’ll start with saying rin has kakashis summoning scroll. when kakashi dies instead of rin, there’s no family to take it so rin does. with that she’s kinda got like the key to the hatake compound, as small as it is. for a while she doesn’t do anything with it because what the heck is she gonna do? but eventually (probably under threat of its demolishment because it wasn’t being used) she decided to make a project out of cleaning it up and keeping it nice. that’s her one Good outlet. Tenzo helps. It’s their thing. she shows the kids at some point along in the timeline and the kids praise her gardening skills that totally wasn’t tenzo.

she can’t tell them who tenzo is— not for obvious “anbu reasons” but she can’t because she’s been caught talking to trees that she calls tenzo. it would make her look crazier.

Anyway this is mostly. Misc? Stuff? if I want to ramble more like “rin lore” or real team minato talkies those would do better by themselves probably. Whatever I stop yapping now.

sanbi jinchuriki concept slowly being developed more

I discovered an old notebook full of ideas for an old AU: Go to my Grave where an OC is reborn in Naruto during Minato’s time to end up becoming the leader of a group called Team Kamikaze which was a squad who infiltrated places and came out after sabotaging things.

Anyways: one thing I’d planned was for the OC to be Hokage instead of Minato which leads to a lot of changes one of which was that she ended up saving Obito and Rin mostly by accident and then creating Team Biju after she decided: you know what? This is good.

As Hashirama had been the one to help seal the Biju, OC would argue that it meant they were part of a treaty, and that as war broke out it meant they got to keep them. Rin got the Sanbi, as in canon. Obito ends up with one of Iwa’s and then Kakashi gets one. Mostly cause I thought it was funny.

The Kyuubi incident still happens to Naruto gets Kurama and then OC goes: you know what would be funny?! And gives Naruto to the trio. She helps raise the kid but it’s mostly them.

So that’s going on. And then the Hyuuga incident. OC listens to the demands, laughs and goes: hey where is the two tails?

Surprise Konoha ninja snuck in to steal the older jinchuriki before the Biju got passed on and then they took him to Konoha where a ‘random’ child got picked.

Aka Sakura.

Sasuke will get one to I just don’t know which yet.

Why?

Cause I think it’s funny.

She made Kakashi kill her and she’s alive to answer for it. She resents him for needing her, (“Why couldn’t you have just let me die!”) resents Minato for building an iron-tight seal, resents Kushina teaching her how to accept the village’s control. Her classmates don’t understand what happened, she avoids them so she doesn’t have to try and put on a mask that’s broken.

Kiri wants their Tailed Beast back, crying about an imbalance of power. Kiri and Kumo band together and war begins again. Rin is kept in the village to train while Kakashi fights, (“You’ll be safe here”) Minato works into the morning on seals to help a village that’s already taxed to the limit, and Kushina comes back with raw pink skin, fake cheer, and dead eyes.

A lull in the fighting as Kiri implodes into civil war and bloodline-purges. Kushina and Minato want a future to hope for. They want a child. But the Kyuubi breaks out. Konoha’s jinchuriki and Yellow Flash are dead and Kumo smells blood in the water.

Well.

(“Time to prove your worth.”)

A port city supplying the blockade starving eastern fire country. A standoff between two weapons of mass destruction, their operators with fingers on the trigger.

Despite itself, the Three-tails asks her to spare them. To refuse her superior’s orders and run away. She says it’s in no position to make demands. Where could she hide where nobody would attempt to take what Konoha stole? At least this power is her hands and not an enemy’s. She sees the signal, and goes out to meet the Two-Tails.

And even if none of that were true, she says. She stopped caring about who lived and who died a long time ago.

Rin(the Sanbi?) rages and wails at the cruelty of their captivity.

She comes out on top. With blood in her teeth and skin curling with steam. Ships eaten with coral and the residents burned with chakra. She’s proved Konoha’s strength. No one will ever die because she was weak again.

(It feels empty.)

The war is over and the village needs money. There’s more than enough unruly militias and wealthy weapons dealers to keep those in Anbu busy. Turtle and Hound silently pass each other in monochrome hallways until one mission too many. They cling to each other because there is nothing and no one else. Kakashi mourns. Rin does not. Unless she remembers Kushina’s comfort or Minato teaching her his seals. Sometimes they go out drinking and wallow together in misery. They can never go back to the way they were, but at least they’re together and alive.

Rin never gets a genin team, the Sandaime learned his lesson with his own students. But Kakashi does, and he invites her to one of their training practices. She sees Minato in Naruto’s optimism and feels rage, she sees the determination she lost in Sakura and burns with jealously. Sasuke never forgives and he never forgets and she silently screams with want.

The Akatsuki comes for her. The insufferable idiot with the orange mask has the mokuton. Pinning her, snarling, to the ground. Until he takes off his mask and—

(“Obito?”)

Even with the passage of years she can recognize the face of her best friend.

(“Oh,” he says, cupping her cheek. “What have they done to you?”)

She cries.

Ough ahhg Oughhh. Imagine imagine if Rin survived the Sanbi sealing not in a fix-it way but in a, “You’re not even allowed the escape of death” way. The thing inside you is too valuable for you to die.

An Observation of Obito Spoilers for Shippuden Ahead!!

I want to talk about Obito, more specifically, the way he was handled toward the end of Shippuden, and his personality regarding his beliefs about being a 'nobody' and pretending to be two different people since he was like....14 years old. For a long while, his entire philosophy was akin to Madara's but instead of seeing himself as a god/the person who was going to be responsible for Tsuki no Me he saw himself as a vessel for this 'plan'. A nobody. (See, his quote: I'm no one… I don't want to be anyone. All I care about is completing the Tsuki no Mei. This world is completely worthless… there is nothing left in it but misery.) Or at least, he tried to be. Obito in particular is a really odd character to me in some aspects, especially with the way he's written in the original series because he's shown to be batshit insane, yet, only when it was convenient to Kishimoto. Without hesitation or mercy, he massacred all of the women and the children in the Uchiha Clan, he literally turned the Yondaime Mizukage (Yagura) into a tyrant and helped with the purges of all Kekkei Genkai in Kiri, he enabled and possibly even helped Danzo to corrupt the Akatsuki, and countless other atrocities. He was able to do all of this by separating himself from Obito. He no longer saw himself as such. He became Madara, and then Tobi for YEARS of his life but that didn't have a psychological effect on him? No identity crisis, no blurring lines between himself and the others he was pretending to be, and he certainly didn't deal with any kind of derealization from being a nobody. So, what's up with that? Well, my personal theory is that the lines most likely did blur for a time, because of his inability to accept Rin's death, (most likely during the two-year period between Naruto and Naruto Shippuden) before, with Shiro/Kuro Zetsu's help, most likely, he used it to reinforce his hate and give himself the motivation to continue on. Replaying Rin's death, and reminding himself of his hatred for Kakashi, over, and over, and over again was most likely one of the only reasons that he would be able to properly continue on. It solidified his hatred, but also the identity he was fighting so hard to get rid of. That was where he failed. In everything. Obito's Redemption could've been a chance to go deeper into his feelings as Tobi, expand more on the Bloody Mist, (this is me officially begging for more Kiri content), and much more. It could've achieved much more in some aspects, but in other aspects, it did well. One thing I do like about it, is that Kakashi had no way of knowing some of the things that Obito had done, (Kirigakure and Uchiha Massacre, mostly.) So, when Kakashi suggested that he allow himself to live and atone and Obito refused that offer, it made genuine sense for someone who had regretted their choices. I noticed that there had been hints that Obito was a direct descendant of Madara as well, and the dynamic between the two was something I enjoyed as well. I wish that they expanded a little bit more on just how crazy Obito could be, his relationship with the other Akatsuki members (because remember, he hung around as Tobi for at least three years), and gave him some interactions with Jiraiya. I will eventually end up speaking on his relations and feelings toward Kirigakure, but this post is long enough as is, so I'll leave it here. Thank you for reading, and have a good day!

Bijuu-nin AU [海深 外伝]

He is tired. He’s been tired for so long, and he thought a nap would help. Is he less tired now? More awake, more aware? Probably not. He’s not sure what went wrong. He fell asleep, and now he’s trapped. The one he’s bound to (Guard or Cellmate?) feels like lightning, but it doesn’t have the fluidity to be truly safe with him. He is tired. He is also scared.

He doesn’t want to be here, with a seal that sends waves of pain so frequently, with a child(?) that’s as scared as he is, and maybe more confused.

Obito is small, the way so many of the veteran shinobi ambling through the streets are small. The Village was meant to protect them, Obito thinks, Obito is sure he’s heard. It’s not like his memory goes back far enough to know the truth. To know if there are more children who came back than before. To know if Hashirama was not simply a clan head who wanted more.

What does Hokage even mean if a Hokage can’t stop this?

He looks at his small hands and swallows.

He’s sitting at the memorial stone, has been reading and rereading the same names (really just the one) since before dawn. Shisui (so small, so little, so deadly fast and smart) had stopped by not long after, dropped off a bento bearing all the hallmarks of Mikoto’s cooking. He, Shisui, had cocked a head at Obito, like the birds who signed his back. He, Obito, had felt nothing, felt like a small animal. He, Obito, was grateful when Shisui left. Even if it still felt like nothing but a yawning cavern opening beneath his feet but leaving him standing.

His hands are trembling, chopsticks laid across the open bento at his side. He’s barely picked at it, but he hasn’t felt hungry (liar) since he woke up after Kannabi Bridge.

He wonders if he should go visit Rin at work, at the hospital. He catches a whiff of antiseptic blowing on the wind and swallows, clenching and unclenching his (bloody, clean) fists. That’s right, he doesn’t need to go there. Rin said she would pick him up for dinner later. He’d be late otherwise. He’s always late.

He reads the name(s) on the stone again. He looks at small hands. His hands were tiny.

If Village couldn’t save children, then what were they there for?

SUMMARY: Kannabi Bridge. Obito (13/14) isn’t fast enough to save Kakashi (9/10). As per flipped canon, Kakashi is (rightfully) presumed to have been crushed to death (although none of Team Minato actually see him dead/dying). Kiri-nin pick up Kakashi, planning to use him as leverage (maybe just for Madara’s Sanbi bomb). - 1 year later, Kakashi has realized he’s a bomb and manages to successfully escape Kirigakure. He avoids Konoha, because he was the Yellow Flash’s apprentice and he knows where must be the most dangerous place for him to be. (He’s heard things, too, and councilman Shimura Danzou just keeps coming up.) He avoids the Konoha-nin too. - 3 years later, Kakashi (13/14) has mainly stuck to civilian areas and wild lands, though he’s kept an ear to the shinobi ground (so to speak, sometimes literally). At some point, he began regular work as a shiphand on the cargos running between far North and far South. - Due to the poorly designed seal (Madara may see intricate seals but he can’t replicate this and Zetsu was never inclined to study the art) he and Isobu swing from not hearing each other at all, to hearing the other too much too closely too loud. When Madara (who has other plans in motion) begins a chase on the Sanbi, it takes a full year. Only a year. Madara tries to break the seal, pull out the Sanbi, but only manages to fuck with the seal until it’s worse than it was. The faulty seal blends Kakashi and Isobu’s personalities into a single entity, a bijuu-ghost barely held to their corpse by an inert bomb seal. - Now Kaibuka [海深] (14/15 give or take a super long time), they’re perpetually youthful~~ until they can manage to ditch the fleshsuit. (They can’t quite figure it out yet, bc whenever they’re hurt too much like whatever hurt their eye they automatically heal from it.) Due to the blending, their memories have been mixed and crushed up together, so that even many of their memories of Isobu have been altered by their memories of Kakashi. - They wander the Nations once more, this time stealthily hopping around Ninja areas as much as they poke around Civilian areas. They make a (rather comfy, thank you) nest in the remains of what could only be Uzushiogakure. They primarily avoid Konoha (something, something, dangerous? they’re not sure anymore. it’s all a little fuzzy), though they occasionally swing through Land of Fire. They go through Kiri more than there. - Back at Konoha: The rest of Team Minato has managed to survive both the Second and Third NWWs. Obito is on the Hokage succession track (determined to become the leader that can end wars before they begin), and Danzo is too pressed for space to take out anyone, least of all Shisui. Madara attacks, but is repelled by greater forces. Kushina survives with a healthy little Naruto to learn sealing at her knee, and Minato looks into who exactly gave the order for the Uchiha to stay entirely away from the fighting. The Hatake Home and Properties have been placed under the ownership of the Civilian Branch, and the sensitive scrolls (including Pakkun +) have been closed away.

(A/N: That election, huh?~~~ I’ve had this sitting since May of last year, so you know it’s been marinating. *pads off to down some celebratory brandy* If you didn’t catch it, that is Isobu narrating at the top, and Kakashi is both Lightning and Water inclined. I say inclined, bc I doubt that people will fit squarely into the predetermined holes in any system. Obito is both older than Kakashi and coming from a different background, so his reaction to this trauma is a bit different from Kakashi’s. Namely, Obito is disillusioned with the system. He’s understanding now that things in the Village were never as good [or righteous] as he thought they were.)

im also having something of a minor crisis bc i keep making up different flavors of what is essentially the same character bc i want that kind of personality type to play off kisame's (for obvious reasons lmao) and as much as i enjoy each version of this character (one version is an ice user, one is a wood user, one is that sanbi jinchuriki, and the current one im thinking about is a bone user) im like. struggling to make them all way more individually distinct from one another. esp since as im moving on and discarding them (from the og concept which is... having a funney little guy to pal around with kisame) LIKE as fun as it is to play in this space of kisame having a rotating cast of boyfriends that are all suspiciously similar, i am kind of frustrated with myself being unwilling to think about these characters beyond that >:/
