Struck by a lil plot idea for a possible sasi episode i will never write.

We all know Virgil have a better idea on how Thomas is feeling and won't hesitate to state it if Logan asks.

So cue scenario, maybe Patton is inconsolable and Virgil for once have no idea what's wrong, and Thomas isn't much help either, because he feels like a dumpster fire. Logan has no idea how to help, Roman isn't much help either despite trying.

In the end they end Logan summons Janus, because maybe this situation is in his realm of functions. Janus is all disorientated and falls over the moment he's arrived, not used to being summoned, least of all by Logan (who we know is bad at it) and Janus just groans out a "where's the fire?" while Thomas asks if he's okay as the deceitful side get's to his feet again, dusting off his clothes.

Maybe the reason for Patton's crying is that he's worried Thomas's relationship with Nico will end the same way Thomas's last relationship did (the guys and dolls guy), as well as Thomas not feeling like he's 100% ready for a full-fledged relationship yet.

Cue Virgil, Roman and Logan being like "But we're already been over this?!" maybe even getting frustrated with Patton because "oh great you can no longer tell him what to do so you pull this shit?!"

Cue protective snek snapping at all of them (not at Patton or Thomas) that "Grief (even for relationships) doesn't have a deadline. The past relationship is still hurting Thomas despite the coping skills he's found" but coping skills are hard to remember when you feel shitty.

Maybe Remus shows up a moment too.

Starting with:

Ichabod as Thomas

Ichabod was a easy choice for Thomas. He is our beloved main character! He is also a cutie, like C!Thomas and looking for direction in Sleepy Hollow the same way Thomas looks to the Sides for direction.

Drawing wise, I enjoyed putting a bit of every colour in his outfit :) Plus, his little colour orbs represent the amount of each side i feel is represented in him :p

Matilda as Virgil/Anxiety

Matilda was nearly placed as Logic but i think anxiety works for her! Virgil also has a gloomy aesthetic and a deep love for his friends that pushes him to great lengths, like Matilda.

Anyways, i really wanted to make virgil’s cloak a cape so :p

Verla as Remus/Dark Creativity

She’s a spooky gal!!! Just like Remus. Remus would enjoy appearing with dramatic stings and monologuing to skulls like Verla. And the “it’s real blood” thing is so Remus so..

I’ve always wanted to draw Verla and i like her being in a lineup so i get to make her tinyyyy she’s so cute and ominous.

Lucretia as Logan/Logic

She’s smart, pragmatic and she doesn’t put up with any nonsense. Additionally, like Logan, she has a bit of a soft/eccentric side, particularly with her taking part in a quiz team with the babes (although i have no doubt she’s functioning as a Straight Man to their rambunctiius goofs).

Drawing Lucretia meant I FINALLY got to draw her with my headcanon of dyed brown hair except for an under section that is her real red colour.

Diedrich Knickerbocker as Roman/Creativity

He’s a bard!! He sings passionate songs and provides a little sneak peak into Ichabod’s desires and dreams to the audience, which is a more subtle version of Roman.

His outfit lends itself very well to be Princified so i just switched a few colours around :p Oh and I had to give him a sword ofc. Because it’s Roman..

Kat as Janus/Deciet

I struggled whether to place Kat as Anxiety or Deciet for a while but fundamentally i think she fits. Her entire arc is around lying, her father lying to her leads to her death etc.. Deciet’s dual nature as Self-Preservation also works with Kat as really she was just doing whatever it takes to look out for number one. And unlike for Janus, number one isn’t another person.

Janus’ outfit is hard to adapt into a cute dress (specifically i was basing it off Kats dress from the first Mayor Party) but they already shared a little bit of a colour scheme and i wanted to make his capelet into an outer skirt so sue me

Brom as Patton/Morality

He’s lovable, he’s a feminist and he likes to do the right thing even if he is sometimes blinded by love. He’s also just got a really big heart. (My only criticism is not enough puns like Patton does) Although Brom and Ichabod’s relationship is son to father compared to Patton and Thomas’ father to son, it’s another cross dynamic :p

Hey so gonna yap bout something real quick. I feel like we just kinda skip over how each of the Sides talks about Nico in 5YL.

Roman being the romance handler ofc is super enthusiastic about it, talk bout how he hates it's going slow and how Virgils not letting him rush things. In the end he also states that getting with Nico is part of his big picture, so he's gonna be a consistent part of the rest of the series, at least I think.

Virgil doesn't voice his particular opinion on Nico, just comments on Roman slighting him. But Roman's lines imply he's trying to take it slow and even though he was the one who pushed for the two to talk he's still not sure

Patton's lines really interest me. He actually seems really hesitant and unsure about him. It really reminds me of a dad who just met his kids partner and is severely untrusting of them. This doesn't really line up with how he acts in WTIT's end card, where he's really enthusiastic about them going on a date. I've stated before on here that I think he's sacred about Thomas dating anyone because he already feels like he can't take care of Thomas, much less be responsible for a relationship.

Logans the most interesting though because he seems excited about getting to know Nico, which is out of character for him the HMO video kinda proves he's kinda asexual, or at least is confused by romance, which same tbh. Seeing as this is after WTIT where Thomas straight up brushed him off to go on their date, so I'm surprised he's being this friendly.

Idk where the Nico subplot is going but I'm excited to see it used to expose how the sides really feel about romance and relationships, I have a feeling Patton isn't being fully honest about how he feels and is trying to hide his worries. I also want to see Remus and Janus's reactions, is Remus going to try and sabotage them, is Janus going to use it against the other sides? I'm also excited to see if Thomas and Nicos relationship is what pushes Logan to the edge, or if it helps? I'm really excited for the last two episodes, The Elements confirmed we're getting more content, specifically the new episode, in not that long.

Ace's All Time Best Fic Rec List March 2025: Sanders Sides

I'm just going to borrow the format I've been using for the other fandoms I rec fics in. These are just fics I really liked and want other people to read. I didn't start taking note of them when I started reading so I might have missed some. If a fic isn't on here it doesn't mean that I don't like it, and please feel free to rec me fics!

One thing to note is that the way I tend to read fics is to pic a tag or relationship or character etc. and filter by date posted, ascending on ao3 so I start at the beginning and work my way to more recent fics and then obviously any on Tumblr I simply read if they manage to find me. Tumblr search is not fantastic. That is to say, most of the fics currently on my list are going to be older. Also if the rating is M or higher, I have that listed in my little description of it so you'll know before clicking.

Also, also! I tried to only have one or two from the same author so there are likely other works by the people who wrote these that I liked but didn't list, I just didn't want this to be three miles long, yk?

And last little blurb, I try to do these once or twice a year with different fics on each list, but I always use the aatbfrl tag so you'll be able to search my blog for them.

Friendly Neighborhood Criminals- Patton gets adopted into a trio of criminals who took one look at his life and said 'You live like this? Well we can't in good conscience rob you now.' and decided to make him their pet project. (WIP)

once you're in the hive, the other bees assume you're supposed to be there- "Virgil accidentally gets absorbed by his best friend's brother's polycule." That's the official tag line and what more do you need, really? (WIP)

Love is a Beach- Moceit fake dating your ex that you're still in love with bc you didn't tell your friends you broke up yet and you're all going on a trip together. This could not possibly go wrong in any way. (WIP)

Clutters of Creativity- Roman clutters (the speech disorder) and this is how I learned that I too clutter which alone makes it worth sharing, but this is also cute as hell. Remus and Logan are v supportive.

Snap- Roman angst hurt/comfort Roceit&creativitwins we don't have to talk about how much I related to this one, but if you want to have a good cry, this one's for you.

The Only One that Knows- A lot of trigger warnings, but Logan is a scientist at a shady organization that burned down and the experiment he was managing starts acting up in his home. I think about this all the time, just the way it's written it's soooo good. Rewired my brain. Rated M for Mlots of gore/blood/body horror and Mental health problems and Major character death.

i picture it, soft, and i ache- Janus falls in love with Patton and has a time about it. And then he has a different time about it. V cute with just the right amount of angst.

Silence- Selectively mute Logan and extremely anxious Virgil work through some stuff and it's cute or whatevah. And maybe I relate a little too much but it's fine, don't worry about it.

Cracks in the Ceiling- Logan helps Virgil and they're just besties and I love them.

Mission Status: Sick!- Inspired by the hockey AU, I'm just going to copy paste the tagline bc I think you'll understand. "'It's a good thing that my homosexuality is stronger than my pride', Virgil thought as he opened a capri sun and violently squeezed it onto his sheets." Analogical.

glow like a fireflower- Deceit is a dork. Roman is... also a dork. They're dramatic and silly and working through some stuff and Remus has to hear about it but he gives great advice (lie).

Noi Abbiamo Un Problema- LAMP soulmates with a side of dukeceit. Virgil is the last to join the group but they seem to be expecting a fifth... who is also Virgil. They're a little dense and Virgil is anxious and Remus and Janus are real ones. I love Virgil's mom.

like copper and gold- Rated E for explicit sex and a lot of it. I fucking bawled dude. This fic tore my heart out and then put it back in ever so gently. More of Deceit making bad decisions. roloceit.

The Gold of Your Heart- Look, I read this whole thing a while ago and I still think about it so I feel like it's worth adding to the list. Deceit's name is Tony. A bunch of OC sides and headcanons in here but they're very fun and interesting. 200k+ Roceit slow burn.

Distant Stars Clearly Shining- Prinxiety sci-fi AU featuring smut it's a 10k one shot with significant plot and world building.

Eustress and How to Manage It- Ok, so they're dorks. Prinxiety being adorable dorks. So fluffy. (There's a spicy sequel out there too.)

Help In Unlikely Ways- My boy Janus is just doing his best oml. He's bad at it.

I'm In Love With A Fairytale- Look, it's 117k. And it's fun. Well I mean it's really angsty, but that's fun for me. It takes place in the imagination. Look at it. Rated M for violence.

Hurt, And How We Grow Past It.- I remember reading this when it first came out. Just a little Janus angst as a treat.

Roman and his People Pleasing.

Putting this one out here for peer review.

I want to talk about Roman and how he has so much trouble forming and standing up for his own opinions.

We can start with how difficult he finds accepting Virgil.

In the third Sanders Sides episode ever, where Virgil first shows up. Thomas pretty much tells Roman to get rid of Virgil. From this point onwards Roman is mean to Virgil, he tries to argue with him, get him to leave etc. Logan even points it out by saying that the others have all had moments of seeing eye to eye with Virgil.

In Accepting Anxiety, Roman only comes round to Virgil after everyone else has. He's still fighting on the front of Thomas' previous request to get rid of Virgil and doesn't catch up on the fact that they're now accepting him until everyone else has. At which point he does almost a 180, there's still slipups, but after Accepting Anxiety Roman and Virgil's relationship becomes one of the most solid in the series.

Now fast forward to when Janus shows up, Roman immediately wants to listen to him and bring him in (ofc this results in him being kind of used and a lot of shit later) but especailly in the courtroom episode it's clear he agrees with Janus, he's genuinely having fun in the courtroom (up until he realises how serious this is) and he seems to genuinely enjoy talking to him. Obviously this is pretty different to how Roman treated Virgil and I believe this is him trying to 'make up for' being in the wrong about Virgil by treating this other darkside the same way he should have treated Virgil from the beginning.

And then Patton pretty much shuts Roman down and reaffirms that Janus is the bad guy, so Roman immediately goes back to disagreeing with him, acting like he did towards Virgil in the beginning, he gives up on going for what he thought was right in the first place (which was correct btw) and thus tries to fight against Janus instead, which then leads to him believing that he's not Thoma's hero anymore.

This poor guy just can't win, clearly doing what they tell him is wrong, but he also gets chastised for doing what he believes is the right thing.

Honesly poor guy.

This guy has such a good concsiencs and is a very good judgement of character but he's such a people pleaser that he keeps making the wrong decisions and pissing everyone off.

Logan and Virgil: Besties, these two just understand each other pretty well. Two introverts who'd rather hang out by doing their own separate thing in the same room, rather than talking.

Logan and Patton: People who were married but are now divorced both miss their previous relationship, but they can't go back to that now

Virgil and Roman: Oh Fuck I'm Gay For The Person I Didn't Think I'd Be Gay For Ever

Patton and Virgil: Introvert who ended up adopted by an extrovert and is very confused about it

Logan and Roman: The nerd in school and the theatre kid, they'd be pretty good friends, but they're far too stuck yelling their opinion that they forget to listen.

Roman and Patton: Two extroverts who generally just get along really well. One randomly decided that the other is now his dad, and the other is completely fine to have accidentally acquired a child

thinking about how Logan cracking under pressure would be the final straw in Thomas's sanity. not saying that Thomas would become completely unhinged when Logan cracks. but it's gonna be pretty hard to function with faulty or unreliable logic. Logan can't duck out like Virgil did, so he's gonna be forced to continue operating as Thomas's logic under the same circumstances.

and in this situation, Thomas is going to be even more easily swayed by his emotions. we already saw what happened when Logan temporarily left the group (but was still active as Thomas's logic) in Moving On pt 2. they all went absolute batshit; Virgil was having a panic attack, Roman was encouraging Thomas to act on impulse and make irrational decisions, and Patton was also somewhat panicking, refusing to take sides or handle the situation.

it's gonna be this but ten times worse when Logan finally loses it, especially since Roman is also not in a very good position right now. Patton and Virgil aren't cooperating like they used to either, so chaos is definitely going to break out.

and I'm thinking about how all of this is going to affect Thomas's relationship with Nico. we haven't seen much of their relationship and while it looks healthy enough so far, we already know that Thomas isn't exactly ready for a committed relationship. his frustration with Nico not responding to his text in WTIT says everything.

of course, he isn't going to intentionally hurt Nico but there's a possibility that his emotional turmoil and repression is eventually going to affect their relationship badly. i don't blame Patton for being cautious about this new relationship, he might have to deal with another heartbreak again if Thomas isn't careful.

Sanders Sides theory (rant). I know im mainly a mh acc here but I have thoughts i need to get out there

(just fyi this theory is Roman centric, I know most TSS people nowadays are talking ab Orange and Logan so if Roman's not interesting then continue on 🔥🔥)

Okay so. I was scrolling through Sanders Sides theories and found that no one seems to have this theory, even though I thought the Roman angst enjoyers like me would be writing this all over the place but. Ig that means I need to talk about it.

I've had this theory for years now, since the day I first watched SVS Redux.

I think Roman is going to duck out.

I dont know if I have to explain why but. I mean, just looking at the explosive end SVS Redux had will tell you a lot.

He doesn't belive Patton when he tells him they love him. He thinks Thomas has lost all faith in him in favor of the person Roman views as the epitome of evil. He's been switching views left and right to stay on Patton's side (because Thomas prides himself on his morals), but he always ends up doing something wrong - he always ends up as an antagonist. He no longer believes that he is the one thing that being has kept him stable since "Am I Original?" - Thomas' hero. The only side he has a stable and positive relationship with is VIRGIL of all people. And tbh that could quickly be ruined too. Logan is second, though, but that's EXTREMELY fragile, as we've seen.

Roman always does something wrong and it will and has sent him over the edge. From Roman's perspective, with a very flawed view of everyone around him, he is inherently the thing that flaws Thomas.

+ Roman is really dramatic obviously, so ofc he would do this.

When you look at Virgil's reasonings for ducking out, it seems plausible after everything Roman has gone through recently, too. I mean like:

"I quit. Decided it wasn't worth it anymore"

Why would Roman keep fighting a battle he knows he will never win?

"Well, It didn’t seemed like I was wanted. You all made that pretty clear any time I showed up."

Again, from Roman's perspective, he is constantly and consistently antagonized.

"If I wanted to stand around being insulted, I would've shown up I would've shown up in person like I usually do."

"I actually think you were right to not want me around."

Roman fears that he is becoming the villain (as we see in SVS, SVS Redux and DWIT).

(In fact, Roman has already said something quite similar to that last one in sentiment.

In SVS Redux, Roman says this, which is pretty funny because of the dramatics and the stupidity, and does get shot down quickly, but I am begging you to listen to him.

"The blame falls to me. If you're missing that do-gooder drive... I think It's because I'm in the driver seat... And I'm an awful driver... Perhaps... Perhaps I should let Patton take the wheel.")

(2nd sidenote to the Virgil quotes, can we talk ab Thomas' acting again I just love how tired Virgil is in AA. He's so. Troubled. I love him.)

WAIT ALSO I FORGOT TO ADD THIS UNTIL I WAS AB TO POST IT-

THIS!! First of all his face makes me so sad BUT SECOND OF ALL yeah. Roman core idk what else to say, you get it right.

So yeah.

Anyway, I think the episode where Roman does this will be centered around depression. Without Roman, Thomas is depressed. Let me explain this further.

Roman is Thomas' creativity, imagination, ego, passion, love, wills and wants, hopes and dreams, aspirations and enthusiasm.

Without any of that, what is left? A guy who can't even will himself out of bed, but can still feel the nagging voice of reason and logic telling him how unreasonable he's being. A guy who cant will himself to talk to friends, family and loved ones, but can still feel sorrow for letting them down and worrying them. A guy who can't will himself to pursue creative content that he relies on for a living but can still feel anxious about letting millions of people down and never being able to create again. A guy who cant even make food for himself or brush his teeth, but still knows he NEEDS to take care of himself. A guy whose only creativity is activly trying to disturb and scare him.

So yeah thats really awesome idk.

Furthermore, I think the sides might be SEVERELY impacted.

It has been said many times over the series that the sides are purely figments of Thomas' IMAGINATION. so. Without Roman, I doubt anything would be left. Obviously, if Roman does duck out, I don’t think they'd all immediately just cease to exist because an episode still needs to occur, but I find it likely that they'd all start slowly fading or maybe even "malfunctioning", glitching, putting them on a timer to get back Roman and making it far more tense.

Is this theory weird?????? I feel like it's the natural progression TO ME but I've seen no one even getting near this and im just confused ghfhfhfh. Maybe it is kind of weird and im just too much of a Roman enthusiast. SORRY I LOVE ANNOYING WEIRDO FREAKS!!!! AND IF I WAS HIM ID DUCK OUT TOO BECAUSE NO ONE IS APPRECIATING HIM ☹️☹️☹️ EVEN THOUGH HE'S LITERALLY WHAT MAKES THOMAS DO THINGS. 🙄🙄🙄🙄

I also think it fits really well because of Prinxiety's parallels, such as:

The only difference in these two is obviously that Virgil just silently ducks out, while Roman has the entire "You make us better" speech, probably effectivly saving Virgil and Thomas, because it seems like Virgil was going to insist.

(Also another sidenote that I think everyone will agree with: WE NEED A "YOU MAKE US BETTER" SPEECH BY VIRGIL FOR ROMAN that is all)

For how little I talk about Orange I actually think about him a lot, which means I have so many fun concepts for him, so I present to you,

Headcanons/Theories/Concepts about Orange that don’t all make sense but are fun to think about anyway (aka, me rambling about Orange):

- From what we saw with Logan, I think Orange’s abilities might be some form of enhancing the others�� emotions— forcibly externalizing them in some way. There’s so much tension between the other sides, what with Logan wanting to be listened to, Patton never sharing how he feels, Roman still clinging on to Thomas’s selflessness, and idek how this is all affecting Virgil. Not to mention Nico is in the mix. Orange is gonna somehow force the others to actually talk about their feelings. Basically, Janus can force the others to shut up, so what if Orange can do the opposite? (trust me this can only go well and nothing bad will happen)

- We already know Thomas’s perception of the dark sides tends to be what he thinks is “bad” or the opposite of good, like Janus being portrayed as a snake because of snakes’ reputation in Catholicism. I think it would be fun if Orange also leaned into the religious imagery. What I’m saying is that I think Orange should have goat motifs. Please. Goats are animals also associated with the devil and sin and if Thomas believes that whatever Orange represents is “evil” in the same way he initially thought Janus and Remus were evil, then it makes sense he may subconsciously see him that way. But like, this is mainly because I want orange to be a silly goat. Give that man rectangular pupils please it’s beneficial to my mental health.

- We still know next to nothing about Orange’s personality so this is where it really gets fun! I want to believe Orange is cold. Cold, calculated, a completely icy demeanor. More on his relationship with Logan here, idk if this is an unpopular opinion but I don’t think Orange has much to do with Logan at all. I don’t think they’re as connected as we think, actually. I think the only reason we see orange manifest with Logan is just because Logan happened to be the first person he got to. If anything, Logan now knows to avoid whatever brought him on, which we see in the gift exchange episode when he shuts down Remus after he said “Kinda makes you wanna scream, huh?”

- Adding on from the last part ☝️ I think it would be really funny if Orange got to Roman next. It would be completely unpredicted and with how vulnerable Roman is, he’d be forced to come to terms with the fact that not everything is black and white. Let him have ugly emotions and put a mirror in front of him, if you will.

- ok this is so unorganized but back to Orange’s personality, I think he should be completely devoid of emotions. Analytical in every way Logan wants to be. Idk how to explain this part but his emotions are outside of him, externalization in the way his emotions are external and forced out of the others. This isn’t saying he’s possessing them, but more like he’s an empath. An empath if he was evil but not really. I sound insane but I swear it makes sense.

- also as a bonus, there’s this fun hc that I have (I promise this has to do with Orange) but we know Virgil’s name is a sensitive subject for him. We also know the dark sides like to take advantage of that. And it’s so deliberate in a way that makes me think there’s more to it. SO HEAR ME OUT. You know how Virgil’s name was taken from the Roman poet Vergilius? What if that was his actual full name. What if when he separated himself from the dark sides, he cut off the “ius” because he felt it associated him with them. He told the others they can call him “Virge” as a nickname so they had no reason to assume Virgil was already a nickname. Now imagine that when we meet Orange, because he needs to sides to externalize everything, he refers to Virgil as Vergilius. Yippee more tension for everyone!! Another thing the sides have to discuss as a way to fully come to terms with the fact that they have to communicate and let Thomas breathe!!!
