The Saga comics for the fandom ask
Tumblr media
M/F OTP: as I told you I wanted to catch up with the comics (and Monstress for the other ask) before I answered this (65 issues so far... #66 initially came out next week but it's been pushed back to September)... but I strongly suspected what my answer was going to be lmfao.
The only romance I'm here for it's Alana/Marko. It's foundational to the story, it's impactful. I love the star-crossed shit, I love the real messiness in their marriage, and I love the PAIN and ANGST they cause me *cries in issue 54*.
And... they made Hazel. I love that girl to pieces. And not only did they make her but also they raised her like this:
[Redacted]: Last Night, [my son] and I had a disagreement. In the heat of the moment, I may have inadvertently… laid hands upon him. Alana: You hurt your own child?! Hazel (narrating): Despite all the violence I’d seen by then, this was the first time I had ever considered that parents could do anything but love and protect their kids.
Saga #52
Hazel (narrating): Dad’s folks used to hit him when he was a kid. The usual caveats: not a lot, only when he “really deserved it”, never too hard, they were just trying to raise a good boy, products of another time... you get the idea. Still, my father always felt it had done a number on him. So before Mom and Dad had me, they promised each other they’d never resort to spankings or whatever, no matter how much I might misbehave. And they never did. Even though I was plenty bad. Somehow, I managed to turn out all right.” Saga #54
Hazel's life is next-level chaos. One look at her -at the horns in her head and the wings on her back- betrays her mixed heritage between two warring empires and puts a target on her back. But these two, whatever their flaws might be, tried their hardest to give her safety and joy during her childhood against all odds and in conscious direct opposition to their own upbringings*, and I love them for that.
(excuse me I have something in my eye *sniffs*)
*we don't know as much about Alana's youth (yet) but we know her father ends up marrying a girl she went to summer camp with and that she joined the army "to escape" so err... yeah.
M/M OTP: well, if whatever ends up killing The Will has a male pronoun in my language, I'm all for that xDD
This is not even about him [spoilers]. I could balance that out with him saving Sophie. It's about how this motherfucker keeps surviving every single righteous and not-so-righteous assassination attempt on him and all the collateral damage it takes to make that happen ¬¬
But I guess Doff and Upsher were cute too LOL.
F/F OTP: none yet and I'd like the story to go there with some character tbh. Hazel, or Klara; a f/f love story could work for either of them.
OT3: when Petrichor said she'd be down for a threesome with Alana and Marko... get it gurl xD
Favorite Canon: Alana/Marko is the only thing I see.
Favorite Crack: Alana/Marko/Petrichor. Alas...
Guilty Pleasure: n/a.
Pairing I Hate: hate is a strong word but every time I see anything with Petrichor/King Robot or Gwendolyn/The Will... you women could do so much better smh xDD

so how about that theory that Odysseus' red eyes in Six Hundred Strike mean Ares is helping him out on behalf of Athena, huh?

I always pictured Athena watching the events of The Odyssey as they happened to keep tabs on what her ex is doing but it's much funnier to know that she left him on read for 10 years and then came back to a text thread so insane that she immediately had to go fight her dad.

I see your “Apollo agreed so easily because he doesn’t care about Odysseus” and raise you “the god of prophecy knows that Odysseus is going to make it home, so he’s not going to make much of an effort to stop him.”

who gave odysseus permission to be so "oh my gawd penelope stawp i'm so petite and don't want to get my toes wet" right after going on his villain arc? and why did he eat it up as well?
"...captain why are you kicking your feet and giggling" - eurylochus at some point probably

Okay but the contrast to this moment and Horse and the Infant!!
Because Odysseus begs both times, “Please don’t make me do this.”
But the first time Zeus is telling him to kill one baby to save everyone else (most importantly his wife) and he isn’t really being given a choice “This is the will of the Gods”
Whereas this time it really is a choice. A horrible choice, yes, but Odysseus is not being made to kill his crew, he is deciding between their lives and seeing his wife again. In Horse and The Infant he does something terrible to save more lives. In Thunder Bringer he does something terrible that sacrifices many lives solely to save his own. He really has become a monster.
And yet, right from the beginning Ody tells us that he would trade the world to see his son and wife. He would have always made this choice. It’s just that now he can throw the guilt away.
He has become a monster and in the same breath he is exactly the same.

Polites died believing that the world is kind, and yet his death contributes to Odysseus deciding to become a monster. Absolutely devastating

“Back at home my wife awaits for me. She’s my everything; my Penelope.”
Throughout the Odyssey, Odysseus had placed Penelope at a high pedestal. His devotion so ground breaking that he’s willing to go through so many lengths to meet his wife — a being so pure and bright in his eyes.
As years go on, Odysseus only sees her as this beam of hope, talking of himself as a tainted figure in comparison; unable to find any reason to push forward if it were not for his Polaris. Ultimately having situations, like in the musical, where he begs for Penelope in his dreams to see him as no different to the man she once loved. In fear that if he does come back, he had become too corrupt and disproportionate for her to recognize.
Mind that I like to think he had forgotten that time has changed her too — making her wiser and more cunning. The Penelope he talks of when influencing himself and others is only a still portrait of her younger self from when he had left Ithaca.

it's obviously a little sad when it happens to a character I liked and might've wanted to get to know better... but I appreciate Saga's willingness to kill off its secondary characters left and right to show the ~horrors of war and violence~~, instead of inflating its main cast to the point of saturation.

Did Odysseus cry out for Athena just once, or has he been crying out to her constantly, begging and pleading for her to help him for the last seven years, and she's only just now listening?

hey you ever think about how the Cullen's love-bombing eventually replaced Bella's personality?
She mentions multiple times in the books that she despises expensive gifts, and the ones that actually leave an impact on are her Chevy and the wooden wolf bracelet Jacob gives her. The Chevy is second-hand from Billy, and the bracelet was carved by Jacob. They hold value to her because they have personality; they speak to her tastes and were given to her with those tastes in mind.
She loves her Chevy, but it is eventually replaced with a sleek, expensive designer car gifted to her by the Cullens. She adores the bracelet but Edward puts an designer charm on it to remind her of him.
Even her clothes, which she insists are fine and suit her, are replaced with branded sweaters, dresses and heels.
She hates the idea of any kind of marriage but Edward holds vampirism over her head to get what he wants. Even when she agrees to marry him (against her will) she wants to keep it simple, wanting to simply drive to Texas and get married via a drive thru- Alice begs Bella to allow her to plan the wedding and it's easily more ostentacious and expensive than her birthday party in New Moon, which she describes as "a hundred times worse than I'd imagined"
They get rid of her preferred aesthetics in hopes that their consumerist one will stick, and one of the last things they do to her is literally strip her of her humanity.
She becomes a cold, perfect creature and as a result, is no longer allowed to have ties to her father, mother, her best friend or the interests she had before. She's converted into a Cullen and this shit is supposed to be romantic.

BY INSERTING ODYSSEUS’S MENTAL BREAKDOWN AND HIS SUICIDAL THOUGHTS JAY HAS ACTUALLY MADE LOVE IN PARADISE SO MUCH MORE ANGSTY OMG???
The dissociation—Odysseus was in no shape to carry on. Jay didn’t even need to bring up anything abt s.a. that happened on the island—just a simple comparison between the behaviors of Odysseus when he arrived and that of Odysseus seven years later: just look what happened on this island that caused him to breakdown so thoroughly. This is so perfectly done.

Dustin posts a Tiktok where it’s very clear that he was going to say something important but was instantly distracted by the snippet of conversation walking (unannounced) through his front door.
Eddie: …like when you’re a kid and you didn’t understand the concept of death so you kept putting bugs in your pockets and killing them on accident.
Steve: That’s not a universal experience, Eddie.
Eddie: Yes, it is. Everybody did that. You did that when you were a kid.
Steve: You think I was putting bugs in my clothes???
Eddie: Yes??? Just like everybody else. Back me up, Henderson
Dustin: I created habitats for bugs and kept them in my room.
Steve: That’s why your cat got eaten.
