A lot of speculation (and some bitchass judgemental commentary) on why Tommy calls Buck Evan and i wanna give my two cents

I believe that Chim did NOT introduce them properly when he showed up. He was just like "hey Tommy bro it's been forever we gotta meet under non someone's life threatening circumstances oh yeah these losers are with me they're at the 118 too say hi losers this guy is gonna steal us a chopper"

And Buck was standing there a little starstruck as Tommy smiled and shook his hand and he definitely did his lil anxious stutter thing where he went "oh um hi im- evan- evan buckley" and before he could manage to get out the "you can call me Buck part" Tommy went "hi Evan, nice to meet you" and the fucking SOFT way Tommy said his name just had Buck's brain melting so he forgot about the Buck thing and then well they were stealing helicopters flying into hurricanes and it just settled as A Thing in his head that Tommy calls him Evan and Buck kinda just Likes It.

Meanwhile Tommy is increasingly confused about the Buck thing the more time they spend together and the more time he spends with the extended 118 fam the more he realises that NO ONE calls Buck Evan except Evan had very specifically introduced himself as "Evan. Evan Buckley" and had never once told Tommy he could call him Buck and now it's been so long Tommy's just afraid to ask what's going on.

This is all now canon in my head also I wanna read fics where Tommy is confused about the name thing now HAS ANYONE WRITTEN THE FICS!?!?

also something about the bare chest/naked/unmasked buck vs his layered up/visitor badge/closed off "boyfriend"....

DING DING DING!!!!!! Buck is as vulnerable as he can be, he's hurt, he's in the hospital, bare-chested, opening up because that's Buck and he seriously believes he's cursed and we have Tommy with the layered clothing and visitor badge, visibly not taking Buck's opening for vulnerability yet again. Something else about it all is the way Tommy doesn't make any movement to sit, so the scene keeps them unbalanced, Tommy has the power in that interaction. And the crossed arms as Buck starts to get into it make it worse. As always, he's unbending.

And it contrasts to like, Abby after the disaster date or Ali after the truck. The sitting down gives the impression they were ready to stay in the room (also giggling at how Ali instantly goes in for a kiss and Tommy just, pats his leg lol), Tommy looks like he is ready to leave after 10 minutes.

And Tommy contrasts Eddie sitting there still in his uniform, with the coffee cup at the table, and settled into that chair with a magazine as if he's ready to stay there as long as it takes, but he ends up in the same spot as the girlfriends.

And, well, no one has a visitor badge after the truck or the lightning so.........

The fact that Tommy can still look at Buck's boil covered face with that lovestruck impression kills me.

I mean look at his face while his boyfriend spouts on about this curse.

yeah no, I can’t think of any reason queer people would enjoy the *checks notes* sweet and well written canon queer relationship, one half of which is a character whose been bi-coded for 5+ years. yeah must be a fetish thing you’re absolutely right, there’s zero other plausible explanations.

Thinking about Tommy showing up for the coffee date. He could have said no and nobody would have blamed him, but Buck had something to say and Tommy met him and listened and look how well it turned out :)

Thinking about Tommy showing up at Chimney-less bachelor party even though he was on standby, one phone call/message away from being called into work for who knows how long.

Thinking about Tommy showing up at the hospital straight from a fire, still in his turnouts and with soot all over his face, trying to make it to Chimney’s wedding because he was Buck’s date.

Thinking about Tommy showing up at the hospital again, this time for Buck, straight from work. Again. And he was there just in time to see the doctors pop Buck’s shoulder back into place, so he probably came not that long after Buck had arrived at the hospital himself.

Thinking about Tommy driving Buck home and staying with him, taking care of him despite being exhausted after his shift.

Thinking about Tommy showing up at the hospital, this time to wait for the news about Denny with Buck, because Denny is a part of Buck’s extended 118 family, and Tommy cares about Buck so he cares about his family as well.

Given Tommy’s track record, chances are he was there when Bobby was at the hospital too.

Thinking about Tommy dressing up and driving his boyfriend to a mummy funeral/eulogy reading and then driving him back home.

PS. thinking about Tommy showing up with an air tanker when Eddie was trapped inside a burning house with a little boy and also thinking about Tommy stealing a helicopter and flying out into the ocean during a hurricane to save Bobby and Athena - all because Chimney called and asked for a favor.
