FALLOUT — 01.06 "The Trap"

This chart was actually made out of pure self-indulgent a while back with no intention of being posted, I ended up scribbling(?) all over the thing. Hopefully it's readable when zoomed in.

About "tropes": The trope is called Angel-Devil shipping, oh but I don't think PV is an angel. He's more like a God for SM (at least that's my preference)… Thinking at all the possible tropes that suits them make me really wonder why some people consider Shadowvanilla a crack/pro ship. Enemies to lovers or villain/hero ships have been pretty archetypal since the day of olds. Compared to all the ships I've encountered in the past… Shadowvanilla is more or less the "slightly out of the norm" on the "problematic ships scale" <- typing this out make me feel like an old fandom veteran haha

About "how it happens": I have no idea where to put PV on that chart. He's the one who approached first, but not out of romantic intents, him falling for SM is as unexpected as can be. SM fell first and slowly, and in 'slow' I meant decades upon decades. It's inevitable, painfully so, spending all those years watching over this cookie who's so perfect in his imperfections, how could one not feel something? Of course it's not so simple, that 'something' is a horrid mixture of disgust, envy, hatred, understanding, both the need to preserve and destroy… And maybeee the tiniest crumb of affection? SM realized something around the first couple hundredth years mark, he then spends the next thousands in denial of it. No matter. Whether it's PV or the Soul jam, his birth-given rights. SM knows what he wants and he WILL get what he wants. (He's wrong on both fronts. And somewhere in the back of his mind, SM knows that. But he'll never admit it. He'll never ever admit anything. Until it's too late. In a way, the same goes for PV)

About a certain someone who's not clingy, but would die for attention: I think PV gets lonely easily. As he's hyper-aware of himself and considerate of others, appearing clingy is the last thing PV wants. So PV would put extra efforts in taking care of those around him, be it cookies, animals or the greenery in his garden. A healer is always busy, always helpful. If he's always needed by others then he would never be afraid of being alone. Ironically enough, this ended up making PV come off as a little overbearing. As of late, the only ones able to see through the facade are Hollyberry cookie and you-know-who.

Other scattered thoughts: These two are completely different yet can't be more similar, on the various sliding scales they're either stuck to one another or are flung to both ends. On another note, honestly I can't see these two doing anything domestic together, the most I can see is cooking, which is basically the same as magic in the cookie world. Anyways, are they in "love"? Are they dating? Not really, no. It's more of a a parasitic-turned-symbiotic-soulbond, a will-they-won't-they-destroy-the-world situationship (iykyk) I do enjoy relationships that's hard to put into words. Their feelings are somehow romantic, somewhat deranged and something much, much deeper.

My desire to ship these two comes from the desire to see them grow beyound their archetypes. Being with PV does give SM the chance to be horrible as can be, yeah, but I'd like to think SM does have a personality outside of being a villainous tormentor. He spends so long observing others, and now for the first time he's being seen. Now SM have met someone who can see right through him, who can glimpse into those dammed vulnerabilities of his. Being with SM does let us see PV in his darkest moments, but it's at the same time the moments where PV can shine the most, to prove SM that his ideals isn't naïveté or simple platitudes. In canon, SM+PV works well as enemies, but it is the many contradictions born when romance is added into the mix that got me shipping. They simultaneously break down and bolster one another's greatest traits. Like binary stars, they orbit around the other, so close yet so far apart, lest they collide. They could've been so perfect for each other. But not in this life, or the next, or the next...

it's the way andreil could never have been casual or just a fling the way neil makes it out to be. it was never just physical. it was never just hate sex. because, they were literally in love with each other before they got together and them starting a relationship (or "nothing") doesn't actually change anything except sealing the deal and making it physical too. they actually know and understand each other maybe better than anyone else, and it might have just started out as physical attraction for andrew but you know that changed after he realised neil was more, neil was interesting, he trusted andrew despite everyone telling him not to. he took andrew at face value and was the first person to simply ask him. he respected andrew's boundaries and didn't consider andrew a monster or a psychopath for reinforcing them and protecting his loved ones. he kept his promises and fought in the face of all the odds stacked against him, all the monsters and abusers he's had to face on his tail and he refused to give up even though it might have been smarter to, safer to. and for neil, andrew is the first person to really understand him. even when neil gives his half-truth to andrew after that first trip to columbia, andrew doesn't flinch in the face of it. he doesn't look away, instead he looks at neil with "perfect understanding". andrew has felt the same desperation neil is feeling right then. he's been there, hanging on by a thread and sure he's going to die before he turns twenty, and he isn't scared of neil's past or the people after him. he tells neil to stay, and maybe that's the first time neil's ever heard anyone say that to him. andrew's the first person ever to really give neil a home, and if you think about it, he's also neil's first real friend (much as they'll both deny that they're friends). and also just andrew as a person: he is labelled as monstrous and out of control but neil knows what real monsters are, and andrew isn't one. andrew asks "yes or no?" and keeps all his promises, holds up all his deals, protects those he holds dear to him. he pretends not to care, but neil knows, he cares so much. how could anyone ever think they were casual.

Just thinking about Moominvalley and everything with Snufkin and Moomin. The team knows what they’re doing. The stuff they say in QnAs. And the music choices from the earlier seasons! I’m still not over the Love me with all of your heart scene. And the looks and sass Little My gives them. She knows what’s up. A lot of Moomin’s episodes with Snorkmaiden focus on this conflict between them and they don’t seem as happy usually. Meanwhile, he and Snufkin usually have episodes with problems that they navigate together, even if there’s some push and pull due to their differences regarding freedom and closeness. And the fact that the team describes Snorkmaiden and Moomin’s interactions as something akin to playing pretend and taking roles. Don’t even get me started on The Lonely Mountain. There’s so much I can say about their conversation on the ledge, but it’s not even just that. It’s the way Moominmama and Little My act in a knowing way about him and Snufkin. And when Moominpapa wonders if Moomin really did go all that way for ‘his friend’ Moominmama says that friendship does wonderful and strange things. And right after when she asks if he wishes he could be on adventures with his friends, he says no need and that his best friend is right there with him. And just! The parallel! Calling them both best friends when one of the couples is literally married. There’s no way that wasn’t deliberate. There’s just so much about Snufkin and Moomin that feels so carefully and meaningfully placed. And it feels like, logically, it would lead to something. That there’s more we have to see from them.

But at the same time, I don’t know if they’ll go through with it. Snorkmaiden and Moomin had their break up, but it felt somewhat undone. They don’t seem to be together in the same way they used to be in most of Season 3, but she still calls him her soulmate in the final episode. But then that same episode ends with him and Snufkin in such a beautiful and soft queer way. I hope they commit to Snufmin because the narrative for that has been so genuine and beautiful. It goes deeper than many of the previous adaptations. I really hope that they end in a more romantic way this time. I’m really looking forward to Season 4

I always imagine Vlad moving to the Fenton residence when him, Jack and Maddie officially become a throuple, even if it would make more sense on a technical level for the Fentons to move into Vlad's mansion. The mansion has more space, it would be easier for three adults and two teens to live there, and the trio could have room for a bigger lab... It's just that, even if the mansion has sooo much more space, it's not really a home? Vlad may have his Packers collection displayed around the place, but that's the only thing making it look like someone actually lives there, and it's not just a cold haunted mansion (which it kind of is lol). It's full of empty rooms, it may look clean and organized, but that's only because no one is around to make a mess of it. The carpets in the hallways are fluffy and pristine, seemingly new and untouched, except for a little worn path leading to a single bedroom. It's a status symbol more than anything. It's big, luxurious, clean, it looks great on pictures, but that's about it. Meanwhile, the Fenton's house is messy, it smells weird, the kitchen cabinet doors don't close all the way anymore, the walls have splotchy mismatched paint- where crayon doodles were hastily painted over, the carpets are all bunched up with dirt that will never come off, and the guest bedroom is full of things that have no room for them anymore. It's home. It's where Jack and Maddie watched their babies take their first steps. Even if Vlad offered them a bigger, better, lab in his mansion, Jack and Maddie would never be able to leave their home. And I don't think Vlad would want to leave their home either, not when he's become a part of it.
