Graduation Day, baby!!! RSoS Alumni run complete!

shall we do a run recap?

okay FIRST OF ALL this took so much longer than expected (because i just kept Not Playing) and also was honestly a little harder than anticipated lol

This was pretty fun, but idk if it's my favorite of the gimmick roster runs Ive done. there are definitely things I would do differently if i did it again, like classed, but also stuff like the fact that i forgot to recruit Caspar and so lost out on Mercie's paralogue lol

We can get into that later though - let's review the stats:

MVP: tie between Constance and Annette, with 15 each!

Most battles: again, Coco and Annie with 999+ each

Most kills: Coco, with 673 kills

Longest battle: Chapter 22 (52 turns 😭)

Final classes:

Mercedes - gremory

Annette - gremory/dark flier

Constance - sword master

Lorenz - bow knight

These are the builds approximately as they sat for most of the run (shoutout to 130 avo coco)

I will say, I kinda fucked it up a little bit by letting Annette and Mercedes use viskams (hacked item from the AM Fhirdiad map that people sell via travelers at the Monastery). It trivialized a lot of things that maybe would have been more interesting if I hadn't had them around.

Now some reviews/recollections:

I think one of my biggest mistakes was making Constance my dodge tank sword master and Annette my battle mage - I should have switched their roles up or messed around with something different entirely.

iirc, my original thought process behind that was that Constance has higher speed. But! they actually have the same speed growths, and Annette has better strength, dex, and charm. There was no good reason for doing it the way I did other than the fact that I love Annette and I like when she gets to cast spells, since "meta" people always shove her into a dancer or support role lmao

A lot of the run boiled down to patience, going oh so slow and steady around the maps. Constance didn't start really being able to kill enemies on her counters until about part 2, which meant it was her chipping away and then Annette sweeping in and out on her pegasus sniping them from 6 tiles away (s/o thyrsus)

Lorenz was the strongest person for most of the run, but also the slowest. I invested a lot in his ability to just tank damage, but that was not very helpful, turns out. So I struggled to figure out how to use him for a while... That said, this was the first run where I've ever actually used him at all (or seen his supports lmao) and I will say I'm enlightened now. He's a great character.

notable stuff from part 2:

Despite all that posturing about not knowing how to use him, losing Lorenz for half of Part 2 was significantly more impactful than I had thought it would be. But then when he finally got back, he had to play catch up and couldn't even get right back to work smh. It also didn't help that he was already a little underleveled because I had put my attention on leveling up Mercie and Annie as much as possible before Hunting by Daybreak.

The biggest challenge in part 2 was, in fact, chapter 22, where I discovered that I simply couldn't take Edelgard’s last health bar, like, mathematically, just due to the reality of everyone's stats. I asked for help on reddit and was alerted to the sacred shield gambit which I fully had no idea existed, which also sparked running through all the other support gambits I hadn't paid attention to. fun stuff in there!

ultimately, i hired a couple new battalions, gave Mercie the dance of the goddess gambit (which I already had and which I have used before but I had forgotten about it lol), deployed my only two non-run-required units (Marianne and Felix, adjutants kept around for paired endings), and broke my own rules to let them help - mostly blocking stairwells and in Marianne's case healing and chipping away at enemies with Viskam. Felix did also get to tank Edelgard’s ranged attacks and help finish off some monsters, though.

So with the two of them, plus Byleth and Dimitri, we have the rest of the roster:

Byleth - Cavalier (blessing gambit)

Dimitri - Cavalier (sacred shield gambit)

Marianne- bishop (stride gambit, plus healing)

Felix - wyvern rider (just hanging out having a good time w the broskis)

speaking of paired endings, I had planned for Marianne/Lorenz and Dimitri/Mercedes but ended up with Marianne/Dimitri and Lorenz/Mercedes. Surprised, but into it!

(all of the battles and victories listed for Marianne and Felix come from the final battle)

And there we have it! the former student of the Royal School of Sorcery have saved the world and everyone in it 👍 they will pass their group project

I actually started this a while ago, but never posted about it!

Can only use characters who attended the Royal School of Sorcery before attending the Officer’s Academy

Byleth and Dimitri are allowed to help by doing things like use gambits, and finish off stragglers

I reserve the right to turn down the difficulty lol

Annette, gremory or perhaps dark flier or even wyvern rider

Constance, mortal savant

Mercedes, gremory

Lorenz, dark knight

Notes:

Nothing major to note. Currently at Chapter 7, and everyone is doing pretty well so far. MVP has actually been very evenly distributed. I've classed Felix into armored knight so he can proc guard for Annette lol it's been useful.

I'm very worried for Chapter 13, since Byleth and Dimitri are going to have to hold their own until Mercedes and Annette show up. I want to be able to keep Ashe alive, too, so it's going to be tough. Thus, I'll have a pre-chapter 12 save so I can turn down the difficulty if I can't manage it lol

A Mermaids Tale is the story of how the kind and gentle mermaid, White Pearl Cookie, descended into a bitter siren of hate named Black Pearl Cookie.

History Archive

White Pearl Cookie wakes on the day of her Sea Foam Rite ceremony; a ceremony where gem mermaids get their special powers from the Almighty Sea. But, instead, the Sea herself visits White Pearl Cookie! The sea tells her that she is a small moon and will shine brightest when there is no light. Before the Almighty Sea can finish, she is cut short. At the end of the ceremony, despite the great events, White Pearl Cookie doesn't gain any powers. Devastated and overwhelmed, White Pearl Cookie swims off. Frilled Jellyfish follows in pursuit, desperate to make sure her lady is okay. But, to their shock and horror, White Pearl Cookie is captured by pirates!

White Pearl Cookie's sister's devise a plan to go save their baby sister. On the ship, a cookie named Abalone devises a plan. When the eclipse comes, the cookies of the sea will be at it's weakest, and that's when he and his crew will rob the sea of its riches. Afyer meeting White Pearl Cookie and finding out the gem mermaids are real, he plans to captute the rest of them. Another Cookie, Lord Oyster (just.. Lord Oyster. 'Not Lord Oyster Cookie'), ends up meeting White Pearl Cookie in the tank that she is trapped in. White Pearl Cookie and Lord Oyster talk one-on-one, and the two get along. He visits her more and more, and eventually, White Pearl Cookie tries her best to get Lord Oyster to set her free and just before he can give an answer, the boat is attacked by White Pearl Cookie's oldest sister, Crimson Coral Cookie!

Lord Oyster realizes that the only way to get Crimson Coral Cookie to stop is if he frees White Pearl Cookie. So, he goes against hid captains wishes and pushes her tank into the water.

White Pearl Cookie happily reunites with her eldest sister, but Crimson Coral Cookie wants to destroy the boat and those cookies once and for all. White Pearl Cookie stops her, as she doesn't want to hurt Lord Oyster. Crimson Coral Cookie understands and her and her sister retreat.

Meanwhile, on the ship, the crew is thankful thst Lord Oyster's thinking managed to save the ship. The cookies are also starting to question Captain Abalone Cookie after they realized that he would rather save the goods than his own crew-mates. Fearing a mutiny, Abalone Cookie kicks Lord Oyster off of the ship, and Lord Oyster falls into the ocean.

While in the ocean, White Pearl Cookie spits him and gives him the ability to breathe underwater, as well as not making his dough soggy. The two go on to have a cute little date, and White Pearl Cookie tells him about her and the Gem mermaids. The two promise to meet again in the future.

When Lord Oyster reminds White Pearl Cookie of the eclipse, White Pearl Cookie starts talking about how she fears that the sea doesn't truly love her, but Lord Oyster reminds her that the sea called her "Little Moon", and how she can shine in her own. He then calls her, "My Moon." Touched by his words, White Pearl Cookie gives Lord Oyster the most important thing to her; her White Pearl. With it, Lord Oyster won't turn soggy in the sea. She says that once he has completed all his goals, they will be able to meet again.

Lord Oyster's words ring in White Pearl Cookie's head, so she swims to the Tear to find answers. She touches the Pearl to speak with the Almighty Sea and feels power surge within her, and the Almighty Sea herself speaks to her. The Sea tells her that her power allows her to shine when there is no light. That gave White Pearl Cookie courage.

But, her happiness couldn't last for long, because the eclipse was beginning. And that's when Abalone Cookie and his crew attacked, but her sisters managed to drive them away. The Sea basically hypes White Pearl up as that's happening.

Abalone Cookie, wanting to get back to capturing the mermaids, decides to buy the pearl off of Lord Oyster and use it to convince the other sailors to go along with capturing the gem mermaids. While Lord Oyster refuses, he eventually does accept Abalone's offer, with the promise that it will bring his family out of it's slump.

Eventually, Abalone succeeds on convincing the other sailors, and he goes back with his crew to capture the mermaids. Lord Oyster hears him and rushes to see White Pearl Cookie.

As another eclipse happens and the gem mermaids are at their weakest , Abalone and his crew strike again. White Pearl Cookie's sister's order her to stay hidden, as she is the weakest of them, but she feels bad and like she could do more to help, so she disobeys their wishes. She swims to the surface to help two young mermaids, but comes across Frilled Jellyfish Cookie. Frilled Jellyfish Cookie follows her and the mermaids she was bringing back to safety. She tries to convince White Pearl that it's dangerous to go back up, but it's no use. In her anger, White Pearl Cookie lashes out at Frilled Jellyfish and swims off to the Tear to gain more power. But, a land Cookie had followed her there.

Frilled Jellyfish Cookie swoops in coming to fight him off with her lady. But, as she does, a horrible accident happens; Frilled Jellyfish Cookie is stabbed through the chest by a spear. In her dying moments, Frilled Jellyfish Cookie assures her thar Jellyfish never truly die, and that she'll be back. Still, White Pearl Cookie had just lost her closest friend. But, knowing that she will one day return gives White Pearl Cookie the courage to swim yp to the surface once more to try and take on the attackers. But, she is captured by Abalone Cookie. And, while she is in the net, she sees her Pearl. The Pearl that she gave to Lord Oyster.

Lord Oyster is finally able to meet up with White Pearl Cookie after White Pearl manages to escape the net. He tries his best to apologize and explain, but it doesn't work, as he has betrayed her so deeply. She leaves him out at sea, vowing to never meet him again.

White Pearl Cookie is captured (again) by Abalone Cookie. Crimson Coral Cookie comes to her rescue, but instead of waiting to be saved, White Pearl Cookie actively chooses to fight alongside her sisters. But, their energy wanes, and it seems that all hope is lost. But, lucky for them, the Almighty Sea was listening. With the sound if war and the tears of pearls, the Almight Sea rises, and makes her last attempt to reach the moon.

The sea rises higher and higher up into the heavens. But, just as she is about to touch her moon, the fatal mistake of dropping her sword comes back to bite her, and her entire body freezes, which creates the Tower of the Frozen Waves.

White Pearl Cookie realizes that, if she wants to defeat these cookies, she'll need the strength of the sea.

White Pearl Cookie goes to the Tear for a final time. Pleading to the Almighty Sea, she touches the Pearl. But, the grief and pain of the Almighty Sea combined with her own is too much to bare, and it transforms her into a Siren of bitterness, power, and hate. A siren named Black Pearl Cookie.

With Black Pearl Cookie's great power, she destroys everything. The land cookies, Tearcrown- everything. Her sisters (and revived Frilled Jellyfish Cookie) were forced to flee from their transformed sister's wrath.

With that, Black Pearl Cookie no longer felt any love in her heart. Only a bitter hatred for Cookie Kind. Now, she lays in the Duskgloom Sea, sinking any ship that comes to her kingdom of solitude.

Storyline recap Week 1-2

In this order: Siffrin, Patton, Furina, Frisk, Grian and Pure Vanilla cookie have awakened in a pure white void with no beginning or end.

Siffrin and Patton found eachother soon, Siffrin deciding to stick along with the other as they search for others. They quickly discovered the askers and begun interacting with them while bonding slightly through their shared loved of puns. One of the mysterious askers have decided to teach Siffrin about colours.

Furina and Frisk (who is accompanied by Chara's voice) also met eachother almost immediately deciding to stick together as well in order to not wander alone the void forever. Despite Frisk talking to the askers multiple times Furina seems to not have been interacted with at all.

Grian and Pure Vanilla where the last ones to find eachother, the former almost stepping on the latter because of their different sizes. After that Grian has kept PV on his shoulder. After a bit of unsuccessful flying around and a bit of the askers pushing the two combined their eye-related powers to find the others.

The combined essence of the two powers also seems to have awakened something truly ancient.

Mansfield Park, Jane Austen - Do not recommend, was decent in the start but a slog by the end. Fanny is the most insipid protagonist I’ve come across in Jane by a mile, truly wishing her the worst.

Death in the Clouds, Agatha Christie - a top notch Poirot, very fun and twisty.

The absolute drama around Yellow Bittern has been so jokes, Vittles as ever had a great take

Ann Helen Peterson on how to show up for friends (meh, some interesting suggestions, very American oriented) and whether the kids are too soft (oriented towards journalism but a good question to be asking in any industry).

So much about the last 6 months of the economy (tuned out for my gardening leave, now have to catch up).

Watched

This month included Halloween so we had Practical Magic (an absolute must watch for the season for me), Beetlejuice (first time watching, more entertaining than I thought it would be), and I Married a Witch (the second you see Veronica Lake in this you understand why someone would risk their eternal soul and stay married to her)

A lot of West Wing - election season always gets me back to here, one of the best shows ever

Drop Dead Gorgeous - a fun one for a wine-filled night in with a friend

A hungover binge of Man on the Inside - sweet and cute and sad, especially if you know people who've had memory issues.

I am continuing to watch Charmed at night before bed, which is low stakes and amusing enough. Also watching Vampire Diaries, which is terrible but great fun mainly because I live text my reactions to my friend who’s already seen it while I watch, so it’s really half a friendship exercise.

Did

Attended: The ballet! Saw Encounters: Four Contemporary Ballets at the Royal Opera House which was largely eh but (1) the Royal Opera House is amazing, worth seeing anything there for the venue (and esp the bar), alone, and (2) the final piece, The Statement by Crystal Pite, was absolutely mind-blowing, one of the best things I’ve seen in a long time.

Went to three V&A Young Patrons things: Portrait Miniatures handling session (v cool), opening party for the Great Mughals (v fun), private viewing of the Great Mughals (v good, see below).

Learned to: Use hot rollers. Really recommend, they're a super easy way to look way more polished and genuinely take <10 min start to finish. I used this tutorial (and can confirm the volumizing spray she talks about is very good).

Made new friends!: Ana I think is going to be a good one, maybe Parker too. And Beatrix is a perfect tennis friend, not sure if we'll graduate beyond that.

Revarnished my outdoor furniture: trying to help it survive this winter better than last.

A lot of soaking in oxygen bleach of towels, tea towels, stained shirts, etc: getting things into shape for when I go back to work.

Went to a Thursday singles event and went on a date off the back of that: event was scary and kinda meh but I met someone so, worth it.

Found someone to play tennis with during the week (and played twice outside of drills): a big accomplishment, she’s lovely and a good player and available the same kinds of times that I am. Jackpot.

Last Month’s Goals

☑️Use all class pass classes: Actually had to buy more passes, did a lot of F45 and Qigong this month.

☑️Read a book: see Read section above.

☑️New Recipes x4: (1) Confit Chicken Legs - so good and how amazing that they keep for months, (2) Rick Bayless Slow cooker mole - a really good mole recipe (available on YouTube) with a huge amount of depth for (relatively) little work, (3) Brazilian Stroganoff - made this for the Brazilian GP (I try to make themed food for every GP) and it was decent but not my fav and I’m unlikely to make again, (4) Not proper recipes but did a lot of making my own condiments and syrups, e.g. rosemary simple syrup, pickled chillis, slow roasted cherry tomatoes.

☑️Go to a new museum: The Wallace Collection, can’t believe I haven’t been before, it’s free and lovely. The Swing is actually very cool in person, I hadn’t realized how small it is. And the recently completed conservation is wonderful, the colors are really stunning. There’s also a nice cafe. Recommend!

☑️☑️Go to an Exhibition (x2): The Great Mughals at the V&A (very interesting, lots of little details, was glad to go to private viewing with two of the curators as that added a lot), Silk Roads at the BM (incredibly good but also incredibly packed. Try to go first thing in the morning). Note: This one means a major exhibition at a museum I’ve been to before.

☑️Go to the theater: See above, Did section.

🟧Crochet: Making progress, still want to get better about doing this more regularly at night.

❌Write More: Total fail here, need to reconsider how to prioritize this and figure out what the main blockages are.

❌Lay morning foundation: Also total fail on this, probably should reconsider what's realistic for these colder months.

☑️Budget: Barely, was tougher this month. I'm ready to have income coming back in.

🟧Memorize a poem (x2): okay really this is a fail but I had to memorize a rap for Russian class so I'm counting that as a half tick.

☑️Russian flashcards: This is going better and my vocab is improving.

🟧Screen time: Better but still not good. May need to think about how to cycle this through the week / month vs blanket bans/reductions.

🟧Job prep: Unlikely to have any interviews until Jan so this has slowed down but is in progress.

the fact that most of this fic is gonna be in what's NOT said

amy doesn't know shadow has amnesia, and is hung up on her own 'mistakes' to ask him abt anything, or to be completely honest with him outside of her mission

and shadow just came in with a plan, saw amy, switched his plan and then wonders why tf he did that way AFTER the fact

and they just exist like that. so much is unsaid, but their connection is somewhat intact somehow. the memory of it (for shadow) goes overhead, but the residual link between them remains

well last night i wasn't sleeping so i finished my weaving and this morning i learned to do a hem stitch & took it off the loom which really is exactly as pleasant and satisfactory as everyone says. ive got a bunch of distracting experiments to do until about 6pm and then i go home and do a bunch of math to plan a scarf. i think all sock yarn to start with i simply have so much of the stuff
