RAIN'S PAMPHLET (lots of RQG 156 spoilers from your favorite paladin of stabbing)

We meet Sasha Racket and Zolf Smith when Zolf decides to take Sasha into his fledgling mercenary company. She is just developing her proper moral code, with Zolf's guidance and input. Zolf is having his own crisis of faith and trying to figure out his moral code. The Racket family racket and Smith family Harlequin connection seem to be very different.

Zolf gradually turns his back on Poseidon, not making that final change until after he leaves the Rangers behind (no longer working on the name); before he left, he repeatedly chose Sasha over Poseidon. He cried out to his god to take him, not Sasha.

This is not a love story.

He forged belief in himself, in hope. He came from a family of Harlequins.

Ava Whosaskinus Lolomg founded the Harlequins. Zolf maintained his healing powers, maintained his own purpose when he turned back to his core beliefs.

2000 years ago, a fine tuned moral code was built out of the ashes of Rome and saving a single person if the world was too much. Centuries of this choice being made, of the Harlequins growing, surely one dedicated woman might be elevated to just a little bit more deification. Surely someone who was brought back from the brink of death (twice) by first the best healing that the world had ever seen.

I know Ben never specifically says but I swear to Hope that in 156 when Zolf is talking to Azu about trying to change and Sasha not being there and being so filled with hope he's magic, Zolf is crying. Ben doesn't say it but you can fucking hear it in his voice. At that moment Zolf is crying. You cannot tell me otherwise.

So there are obviously MANY differences between TMA and RQG because theyre fundamentally different shows but one of the big ones is that while TMA is a funny show, moments of drama are played fairly straight, and it's only later, in the fandom response, that absolutely everything becomes a joke.

With RQG, the peanut gallery is actually in the recording room, which means we get some lovely tonal whiplash moments like "I'm grief-filled, you're grief-skilled" in the podcast itself.
