I hate the specific brand of toxic positivity that people here reserve specifically for anyone complaining about clueless americans.
Like. With the whole redbook thing I think americans sharing a space with chinese people and unlearning a lot of their misconceptions about the world is a good thing and should be celebrated and encouraged.
But also a lot of the people posting about it are posting about it like up until this happened they thought of everyone else outside of the US as weird alien NPCs automatons. Also shit like this
Tumblr media
"Do you guys experience completely normal human experiences in China or are we special in the US?" as if that's not an absolutely unhinged thing to ask.
And no one can make any post about how it's actually very worrying that americans are Like That to the point that grown-ass adults are acting like "people in other countries are normal people with emotions and a sense of humor" is some kind of mind-blowing revelation and not literally something everyone should know just by virtue of seeing people outside of the imperial core as human without a hundred of the most annoying motherfuckers on this website clogging the notes with shit like "well how about instead of punishing people for not already knowing things you already know you instead reward them for learning and encourage them to learn more?" "remember that what is common sense to you might not be common sense to everyone, your experiences are not universal" like really? Are you going to do that about THIS? Like remember that the thing you're saying we're not allowed to judge americans for not already knowing is "people from other parts of the world are people just like you and me". I think it's actually perfectly okay to judge them for not already knowing that in their mid-20's.

Your first pride story was touching and all but you still married a man.
Yeah, bisexuals do that sometimes.

I feel like too many consent-related posts focus too much on giving and getting consent, and not making sure that people feel comfortable not consenting. We talk too much of consent as if it is a given, as if you just have to ask and then you’ll get it.
like, there are so many things that boil down to “before you have sex, ask for consent” rather than “don’t assume you’re about to have sex unless you know for sure that the other party/parties want to, and even then they could change their minds”.
Which is just really unhelpful. The whole point of consent shouldn’t be “you should always ask for it and then you can have care-free sex”. That still assumes that you’re going to have sex, when the whole point of asking what people want to do is that it should be possible to say no.
Consent and dissent are both equally valuable. It’s OK if someone asks you if you want to do something, and you say no. And whether you say no for today, for a week or forever, it’s all fine.
Because you know that there are going to be people who think they’re so ~progressive~ and so ~feminist~. when they ask their partner(s) if they want to have sex, but then won’t be able to handle the word “no”.

Why do you think aromanticism could save them?: “She never shows interest in any kind of romance, only ever getting "skill crushes" on people. Her player said that they intentionally had a "no romance" rule for her. Very strong aro vibes.”

It really is insane how many people engage with art on a pure enjoyment level. Theyll go to a movie and the only deciding factor on whether or not they liked it is "was i bored or confused during that 90-120 minutes?" Youll talk to people about a book or show or film you both enjoyed and theyll have absolutely nothing to say about how it made them feel, or what they think it was trying to impart to them. It begins and ends at "it was fun to watch/read" it drives me nuts
