We all woke up today! Let’s gooooo.

I used to wake up next to someone every day in college… in separate beds, of course.

Growing up I really wanted the roommate experience and to live with another person. What fun adventures we’d get into, what bonds we’d make. I thought it’d be like TV.

It wasn’t. 

I went through THREE roommate tropes in college

From Strangers to Friends

The first one happened due to a miracle. Initially, my university couldn’t find me a roommate. If they couldn’t find someone in 5 days then the room would be mine. Day 5 rolls around and I’ve accepted the fact that I’ll be alone for the semester

As I’m sitting in the dark, alone, in my room I hear my front door unlock. No knock. As I jump up in a panic I see a figure walking towards me and it says 

“Hi, I’m [Killua]. And I’m your new roommate”

Last day. Last possible second, I stare at him like I saw a ghost, and the first thing I say to him is

“Ain’t no way.”

We became like brothers after that. And I mean it this time, he still calls me that to this day. We’d play video games, watch TV, and have deep convos about our lives. I know these things seem mundane but they were special to me. Later his girlfriend-at-the-time moved in with us, and now she’s still one of my closest friends. 

It was nice to have a brother and a sister. 

However, he moved the next year and I moved in with our suitemate

He wasn’t bad but we never became friends. He was a light sleeper and he taught me that my tongue clicks at night. 

How did he teach me? When I'd do it he would wake me up and tell me that I “did it again”

So great, now we both couldn’t sleep. 

in addition to that, he'd always tell me about his frat parties and how crazy they got and how one day he'd invite to me one.

I never went to a party, but I did go to get a new roommate.

From Friends to Strangers

My third roommate was weird. We were already really close friends but something shifted inside him near the end. 

He started behaving weirdly, treating our friends weirdly, and treating me weirdly. A toxic kind of weird.

I can't say too much about it, as I feel he'll find this page and it'll become a whole thing

He used to call me his brother, but now he has blocked me. None of our mutual friends really know what happened. He didn’t tell me why or anything.

I remember once someone asked him out on a date and he texted me. I got so excited I ran to our dorm and we both jumped around in circles cheering. Now he’s gone.

But yeah, roommates are a toss-up, but I've learned from all these memories.

I love being treated like family

I click my tongue

How I was treated is much more important than how much I liked him.

And these moments remain as memories, as I don't have to see these people anymore.
