Fuck it. The Vampire Hamlet AU 🎭🎻
for the Three (3) people who reblogged this <3
Hamlet de Lioncourt 🎭
Son of the Marquis
Family lost all their power and money when King Fortinbras took over France, but they still have nobility and are highly respected in Auvergne
Problem son & they all let him know that!
Anger issues, outbursts, feels too deeply, annoyingly sarcastic, his family hates it & he hates his family
Their pompous attitude about their nobility pisses Hamlet off, he never felt like one of them, feels more comfortable among the commoners of the village
Well-liked by the people bc he can be very fun and charming when his family isn’t on his ass
He thinks that he’s the worst but also thinks he’s better than all of them
Low ego bc of family but the stubborn dreamer in him lives on
He wants to be an actorrr ✨
Hunts, and is really good at it, but it’s just a chore/obligation to him
Wants to live in Paris and study the arts/theater
Same lore of him trying to escape multiple times and being dragged back
“Auvergne is a prison”
Dad #sucks and is making him stay and help the family rather than go off to school
Becoming a vampire sucked all the hope and drive and passion out of him and left only the angry vengeful parts
Hates killing as a vamp and it makes him feel even worse about himself
Slowly accepts the bitter angry monstrous part of himself that always lived inside him, now that’s it’s all he can be as a vampire
But he’s never really (nor ever will) get over that part of him that loves humanity, will always deep down hate himself for being a monster and yearn for the connection he once had w mortals
Horatio de Lenfant 🎻
Commoner, but decently well-off family
Went to school in Paris for a bit before dropping out and coming back to Auvergne for mysterious reasons
Saw Hamlet a lot growing up but they were never really friends until their early 20s when Horatio came back from Paris and gave Hamlet the wolfkiller cloak
He had always been dazzled by Hamlet’s radiance, and learning the deeper more painful parts of his personality just made him like him more
His family idolizes the Lioncourts bc they’re nobility, they were always trying to get Horatio to be his friend so they could gain favor
Family is cold and has high expectations and it’s given him crazy depression
Hamlet brings out the rebel in him even though Horatio attempts to rein it in
Trying to be grounding for Hamlet since he’s such an impulsive and firey person, but he brings out Horatio’s passions that he has pushed down for years
Plays the violin ofc :) but it’s a secret :) it’s a hobby that’s frowned upon by his family so he has to hide it, and not to mention his stage fright, but Hamlet encourages him and helps him open up and pursue this passion of his
Wants to be logical and do right by his family but he feels like there’s something Wrong and Different inside him, another thing he and Hamlet relate on
Seems shy at first, but is just depressed and friendless, plus raised to be quiet and well-mannered, but after opening up to Hamlet it turns out he’s super witty and likes to tease, gets worked up about the things he’s passionate about, deeply empathetic
does Anyone want to talk about how Lestat de Lioncourt and Hamlet of Denmark are similar in several ways. or how Lestat is the perfect example of a classic romantic hero, a character type that was heavily inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Or how Nicki and Lestat are character foils and how that makes them quite similar to Horatio and Hamlet. Please

Horatio should call hamlet “sweet prince” more often. Why is it only just once. Mr shakesqueer why. why.

oh my god. if the “your hearing is the last sense to go out before death” thing is true then that means that there’s a chance the last thing hamlet heard was “goodnight, sweet prince,” from horatio and then his hearing went out probably

What if the play 'Hamlet' ist the story as Horatio told it after Hamlet bid him to.
What if Horatio made up the first encounters between Hamlet senior's ghost and the guards, to convince people that Hamlet wasn't hallucinating. That the ghost was real and Hamlet wasn't mad. Even if in reality nobody except for Hamlet ever saw the ghost.
What if Horatio did it, because he couldn't stand the idea that people remember Hamlet as someone who lost his mind.
What if that wasn't how Horatio himself wanted to remember him.
What if.

I like a very specific kind of character
They need to be sad and suicidal, insanely smart, misunderstood by all people, fuckin dRAMATIC, and have this very close homoerotic relationship with their one (1) and only friend, who is calm and appears ordinary
...alright I just like Hamlet and Sherlock Holmes.

more things from my production of hamlet that permanently altered my brain chemistry
getting to pick out my own costume, wearing an old peacoat that i eventually took with me to college
all of the tiny details of my costume that nobody but myself noticed
horatio wearing a tiny heart locket because of the whole “heart’s core” thing
horatio fiddling with the necklace while watching the play within a play, while watching the fencing match
our director cut the script to create a deeper relationship between horatio and gertrude while hamlet is away getting captured by pirates
the letter scene
hamlet and horatio reading hamlet’s letter in sync, except hamlet reads “horatio” alone in the beginning and horatio reading “hamlet” alone at the end of the letter
horatio going straight from the letter scene into a conversation with gertrude about ophelia’s health
horatio being in ophelia’s mad scenes, watching her break down and cry, assisting with her wheelchair
gertrude relying on horatio for the truth about hamlet’s whereabouts
horatio staying with gertrude as she dies, then attending to laertes, then finally, to hamlet
our director remind our hamlet to “die center!!!”
hearing the bows music for the first time (the other side by david gray)
wittenberg crew making each other friendship bracelets (r&g had matching “rosie” and “guildy” bracelets, ho&ham had bracelets that read “good night” and “sweet prince” respectively)
making myself a bracelet that said “L + horatio”
THE GRAVEDIGGER SCENE
wearing my peacoat in the final scene, then tearing it off to give to laertes as he’s dying
hamlet holding claudius’ head, forcing him to drink the poison, then finishing him off with a small little nick to the ear, giving claudius a taste of his own medicine
ophelia having one fleeting moment of clarity when she sees laertes, running to hug him
polonia taking an awkward family photo with her kids, chastising them for not smiling enough
(accidentally photobombing those photos during rehearsals)
i mentioned yorick hot potato in the last post, but i didn’t mention that i pulled out a bottle of hand sanitizer after tossing the skull away
the lighting, the set
having to carefully fumble my way offstage once the lights went down, the three times i almost tripped over a foil
and the one time where i actually did
after that they put glow tape on the stage
our set designer crafted an entirely original crest for the hamlet family, using nordic, danish, and even some tolkien characters for inspiration
seeing the set for the first time
our first time staging the death scene
there’s a photo of me in my lil spot by hamlet, surrounded by dead bodies and bathed in red light just kinda going like 😁👍👍
crushing the other teams at shakespeare trivia during our closing night cast party

If Horatio has 100 fans I’m one of them, if Horatio has 50 fans I’m one of them, if Horatio has 10 fans I’m one of them, if Horatio has 1 fan it’s me, and if Horatio has zero fans then I’m dead but I’m about to come back like king hamlet to talk about how much I love Horatio

i want you all to know that for my COLLEGE FINAL PAPER FOR MY DRAMA THEATER AND THEORY CLASS i wrote a seven (7) page paper on hamlet, and 3 (three) of those seven pages were dedicated to a queer interpretation of hamlet and what you gain from reading hamlet and horatio as gay and in love

If I had a penny for every time a bisexual prince died homoerotically in the arms of his faithful gay lover, saying their last words to them, and the lover wailing over their beloved's death in pure agony as everyone around them is dead, I'd have two pennies. Which isn't much, but it's weird that it happened twice.
