So to quickly recap what happened for those who aren't in the Sky Kingdom

The Dragonets of Destiny (YES THEY'RE REAL) had been captured by Queen Scarlet and forced to fight in her arena

One of the dragons with the destiny dragonets is a RainWing, who Scarlet kept on display

Queen Scarlet's champion, Peril, just activated the Champion's Shield when there was some drama between her finding out a prisoner was her mother

Scarlet made Peril fight the MudWing destiny dragonet

She hyped it up to make it this big fight and even invited Princess Burn over to watch

Fight happens

Nothing is going on and the two are mainly yelling at each other (personal drama between them???)

Scarlet yells at them to get back to killing each other

RainWing BREAKS FROM CHAINS and HITS SCARLET WITH VENOM

Entire arena is in panic and everyone leaves because Holy Scavengers the queen is dead

I'm currently writing this right after hearing dragons coming back to the villages. Oh my god I can't believe this she's finally dead

I should probably also mention that Burn PUSHED SCARLET INTO THE VENOM!!! The venom would've hit her but she GRABS Scarlet and uses her to defend herself!! Burn killed Scarlet!

i have, by no will of my own, become a Burn fan. and a burn/scarlet fan. not because they’d actually be good or healthy for each other, but because the idea of that dynamic- the idea of Scarlet already having been queen for ten years prior to oasis’s death, the idea of Burn immediately allying with a SkyWing queen after her sisters declared war, the idea of them being interwoven for twenty years whilst a war of succession raged on around them- is so GREAT

very much a midnight rant here, but man!!

I would LOVE to explore Burn’s relationship with Oasis too. The books imply (especially in TBN prologue & Six-Claws’ winglet) that Burn was her mother’s favorite. And the fact that Burn expanded an entire fucking palace to create a central memorial for her mother is so!!! Like she definitely had a fucked up relationship with Oasis. Like considering Oasis had been so obsessive over heirs and had been so afraid of her daughters it would be difficult for there to be any actual relationship in the SandWing Royal Family. But there was some kind of bond between Oasis and Burn, whether because Oasis didn’t truly fear Burn- not because Burn wasn’t a danger, but because Burn was honorable- or because she genuinely cared, just a little, about one of her daughters.

And the fact Scarlet was a queen during this! The thought that Scarlet and the SkyWings could have been minor allies in the years prior to Oasis’s death (which would make sense in the fact that Burn’s first ally was the Sky Kingdom, because she would be in the best position to utilize the Sand Kingdom’s original allies before the succession crisis)

like I can’t stop thinking about a twenty-one y/o Burn being her mother’s not-so-subtle chosen heir and attending diplomatic meetings and Scarlet, a fresh queen with such a dramatic flair, meeting.

Slight trigger warning, a charafter is defining her definition of beauty, she is canonically an asshole, you are all beautiful in the eyes of someone (or multiple someones) since beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Scarlet's entire life was about beauty and control, perfection as she saw and decided it, Firestorm had made sure of that, wouldn't want to end up like Rose now would she ? And so her word was law, she dictated beauty, and beauty mattered over anything else. Beauty was shining, pristine scales, colorful, with no blemishes or scars. Beauty was wearing jewelry in golds and silvers, with rubies and topazes and diamonds, rings and thin chains. Beauty was symmetry, thin or fat were fine but never emaciated or saggy. Beauty was no matter of taste, it was objective, and it would never change as long as she decided so.

So she could not understand, what made her stop when the princess came to her, she had saw her before, as a dragonnet, during one of her mother's diplomatic meetings, but the princess had changed, and Scarlet could not understand herself. Burn ... Burn wasn't fitting.

Her scales were a dusty, desaturated shade of yellowish brown, most of the time they were scrapped, not lustered like hers. She did have markings, the diamond pattern that most of the family seemed to have, in a slightly darker brown then the scales underneath. She was tall and muscular which was beautiful yes, but she had a bad, well, burn under her left wing and stomach, as well as scars at the back of her neck and on her muzzle. She never wore jewelry, she only ever wore armor pieces made out of iron, scrapped, faded, made only to be practical.

She wasn't beautiful according to her laws.

But Scarlett couldn't take her eyes away from her, not without putting in efforts to do so, and whe couldn't call her ugly, not because it wasn't how to talk to an ally but because she simply didn't think she was ugly. Somehow, despite not fitting in her rules of what was beauty, Burn was beautiful. But that wasn't the reason Scarlet showered her with gifts, thought she could not explain it with honesty, sure, it was to keep the alliance strong ... thought if it was the case Burn would be the one showering her with gifts, since Burn needed her army more then her army needed Burn's.

When the corner of her muzzle raised a little with a small smirk at her gifts, the feeling that spread around Scarlet's chest, though she could not describe it, it was the same feeling that she got when Burn smiled in any way, which was rare to be fair. They had arguments about how to go about things, sure, but she couldn't see herself choose Blister or Blaze over her.

She loved watching the arena battles by her side, she loved sitting next to her to the banauet, she loved when she brought back traitors to her crown, she loved when her wings brushed against her.

She loved Burn, and it had taken her fifteen years to realise it.
