The chicken jockey: A gigantic, hyper-aggressive beast of a chicken with a lightweight rider controlling it, typically a baby zombie. It becomes docile once the jockey is removed, but this is difficult to accomplish because at this point you're basically fighting a knife-wielding dinosaur.

Saddest thing ever is reading an academic paper about a threatened or declining species where you can tell the author is really trying to come up with ways the animal could hypothetically be useful to humans in a desperate attempt to get someone to care. I don't think anyone on tumblr is following for my msm ocs, but I'll say it here anyway.

This exact announcement is copy pasted across the MSM wiki, Archivist’s Lair discord sever, Tumblr, and YouTube community posts. No changes have been made between platforms apart from an extra message about pinglists on the wiki.

Boy, am I nervous to announce this.

So for a bit of time now I’ve been reflecting. I’ve been thinking about my journey with art, my future with art, and my time spent in various fandoms, and I’ve made a huge decision about my MSM projects.

Starting now, I am following in the footsteps of many art/OC YouTubers who have decided to branch out from a specific fandom: I will be redesigning all my msm characters, and they will now fit into an original universe that takes aspects of my MSM AU, Monstrous Lore Archive. The video I just posted is the last large-scale project to use their MSM designs.

Does this mean I am leaving the fandom?

No, it does not mean I will be leaving the fandom. It just means my OC content will no longer be part of it. I may still draw monsters from the game whenever I get a burst of interest. If I do I will still be drawing them with my usual design changes.

So why am I doing this?

There are many complicated, connected reasons why I’ve decided to do this.

By only making content from the same fandom and not branching out, my full potential isn’t realised, and I could have more design and storytelling freedom by doing this.

I want to focus on my OC storytelling and worldbuilding without needing the context of an existing piece of media: in particular, one where there is hardly anyone on the ‘OCs taken way too seriously for silly monster game’ side of the fandom, and where I changed completely changed the lore beyond recognition.

I’ll be able to take my stories in any direction I want. Additionally, no matter what I change about MSM lore, outsiders will still understand my content under a lens of existing media, which does create some problems.

A very simple reason: I really, really want to.

What will my msm OCs look like now that they’re not based on an existing species?

A lot of things! I’m going very funky with designs. I’ve got a big fat Google doc with random notes and thoughts on the original universe that takes MLA elements. Sentient creatures in this world can are technicallytwo races, Natural and Abstract, but take a variety of forms, be they mammalian, reptilian, or avian, but they retain a body plan with four or more limbs and are all omnipedal (can switch between walking on their hind legs or on all fours. There aren’t really many real animals that do it the way I imagine so the best example I can give is Slugcats from Rain World). Traits that are manifested are loosely based on Elemental genetics but it’s far less rigid. For example no two Elementals of Fire and Water would look that similar: one could resemble a tropical fish, and another a salamander, another could have patterns like steam. The possibilities are unlimited!

What does this mean for…

My YouTube channel

I think my YouTube channel is the account that is most dedicated to my OCs, so as I am no longer exclusively an MSM channel (plus I’m falling out of love with the username), my channel will be renamed BirbMonster to match my other social media accounts.

Other than no longer being msm-related, I will be posting animatics, memes, and other videos about my OCs as usual and as originally planned. I might even branch out to other worlds/fandoms (If fandoms, then Wings of Fire and Rain World. If worlds, I do have some fandomless OCs already…) if I have motivation and ideas.

However, I completely understand if I lose at least a handful of subscribers specifically there for MSM. In fact, I won’t be offended at all if you unsubscribe.

The Archivist’s Lair Discord Server

Archivist’s Lair will remain as similar as possible. However, we will now have only general channels for OCs and art. If you still want to discuss MSM, the there is now a channel in the server called #media-and-fandoms that can be used for this type of discussion, but others too. Reactions will also be changed in the foreseeable future.

Feel free to leave the server if you joined for msm specifically and don’t want to be in it in the future (especially once non-msm fans come in).

Monstrous Lore Archive

I’m very sorry, but general MLA content might no longer be posted. This is exactly what I am reshaping into the original universe. I’m burnt out on having to constantly work in parts of canon msm and people asking me ‘what about (insert group of monsters)’, ‘how does (insert lore thing) work’ want to make my own ideas at my own pace. However, I do want to give the ‘new’ project a similar name. Let’s keep the ‘archive’ part.

Solace and other writing projects

I am privating my msm stories on AO3 while I decide how I want to edit them.

I have already begun to work on ref sheets and additional concepts like the world map, so over the next few days or weeks (despite having my GCSEs coming up soon in May), I will be completing and posting them everywhere. Pages on websites such as toyhouse and artfight will also be temporarily hidden while I am working on them.

I hope you all understand my decision. This is a big thing for me to decide- I have to admit, it was relatively spontaneous, but in the end, I’ve got to follow my heart. Feel free to ask any further questions.

Say farewell to the MSM ref sheets. You won’t be seeing these often anymore. And get ready for what is to come...
