Law and Disorder (1958)
"Right, now listen boys, it's all lined up: we're getting rid of the judge."
"What?"
"Knock off a judge? You must be raving, we'll spend the rest of our lives in clink."
"Here, let me out!"
"We don't have to touch him. Police are gonna arrest him."
"Oh, that's better. Thought we'd turned nasty."

a man called jaqen h'ghar (red on one side, white on the other)*

*characters whose hair is described in the povs of starks (or jon snow) who only use the terms auburn or red-brown for catelyn, robb, sansa etc. and do not compare said characters to said tully-haired relations
**characters whose hair is described by tyrion lannister, who spent significant time with sansa and exclusively referred to her hair as auburn (without anyone else telling him her hair color as catelyn told brienne)
the only asoiaf characters ever described as having auburn hair:
catelyn tully stark
robb stark (red-brown/auburn tully hair "so like" his mother's, with a beard redder than his hair)
sansa stark (auburn hair lighter than her mother's, most reddish glowing in candlelight)
brandon "bran" stark (hair not bright red enough for him to distinguish himself from young benjen at first glance in a weirwood flashback)
rickon stark
brynden "the blackfish" tully (once auburn hair gone to grey)
edmure tully (auburn hair with a fiery beard, likely brighter than his hair like robb's)
lysa tully arryn baelish
known tully descendants never described as having auburn hair
arya stark (darker brown stark-colored hair)
hoster tully (hair and beard gone from brown to brown streaked with grey to white as snow)
robert "sweetrobin" arryn (fine brown hair, thought by sansa to be his best feature)
fun fact: the only other character that i can find to ever even be descibed as having red-brown hair in the main series is rowan, one of the spearwives who accompanied mance on his mission to winterfell. (described by theon, who had psychological reasons not to think of any hair-resemblance to robb and co.)
tl;dr i suppose my point here is that auburn hair in the real world may be a term thrown around wildly as a fancier way of saying red hair, but grrm and his westerosi creations seem to keep to a much more specific (true) definition. not just specific, almost entirely unique to a certain family, a weird mutation passing down their line somewhat inexplicably, like the magic platinum hair of the targaryens. (ned stark's 4 tully-haired kids being sorta like alicent hightower's 4 targ-haired kids where nobody can really explain why it was so dominant.) except it's actually more unique to the tullys than either black hair to the baratheons or silver hair to the targaryens, with the velaryons also having valyrian hair as well as some people in the essosi free cities too. which i guess makes rowan the wildling the equalivent of an unknown dragonseed or a lysene woman who could pass as a targ, and regular brown-haired hoster and sweetrobin the equivalent of regular blonde-haired alysanne and alyssa targaryen. so the next time someone calls the tullys lame or whatever, just remember that in-universe they're actually more special than the dragonriders, at least hairwise.
#valyrianscrolls#asoiaf meta#house tully#catelyn stark#catelyn tully#edmure tully#lysa arryn#brynden tully#hoster tully#robb stark#sansa stark#bran stark#arya stark#rickon stark#robert arryn#one fish two fish red fish blue fish#(c)lsb#happy tully tuesday!#ik this seems pedantic but as always i have multiple agendas here#which do not include hating on anyone's orange-haired fanart bc unlike some people i have some tumblr manners#and ik auburn hair is hard to define bc i cant explain it beyond my mom's natural hair color. thats how real world rare it is.

The most toxic place on the internet is a thread on the McDonaldLand forum titled "No offense to Brad Lennon but Squire Fridell will ALWAYS be my Ronald"
Featuring no less than 25 doxxings, 47 SWATs and 12 counts of aggravated assault, the thread has faced criticism from Internet Historian Grunt Frumpler, who has been quoted saying "Those motherfuckers in McDonaldLand do not play around" (Frumpler et al. 'Musings on the McDonald's Wifi', 2018.).

Evidently my half-joke about André wanting the motto "Love and Glory" but being forced to go with "No Rival" instead so he went "screw you" and gave it back to himself when he made that booklet for Peggy Chew was someone's actual theory. Also I will be referring to the "No Rival" design as a pair of belligerent chickens from now on. (Also I hope she's exaggerating about it being displayed close enough to a window that the ink has almost completely faded because holy fucking shit Cliveden you should know better. You're a museum.)
No one has any idea what exactly is going on with that drawing because first of all if you see a colored reproduction/the original, it's clear that it's a knight of the Blended Rose, plus since it was for Peggy Chew and he was her knight, why would he have drawn someone other than himself (plus Captain Watson was the head of the knights of the Burning Mountain and should have had two squires), but the motto on that shield isn't the one that he's supposed have had, it's the one that Captain Watson had. So everyone's confused and it's not like we can ask him. (Or can we? Break out the ouija board!)
I'm curious about how they worked who got what motto and what girl and so on because I'm not sure whether you can claim that André escorting Peggy Chew says anything about his relative feelings for her compared to his other girlfriends, because on the one hand it was a performance plus it was political rather than just André throwing a big party because he liked parties (I think the politics - and the bit where this wasn't just André's show - may be something the Ronald bio actually goes into; we'll see if he gets his conspiracy theories all over it though), so he could have been paired with her for reasons that had nothing to do with his feelings, especially since I don't think any other knight is assumed to be paired with his favorite girlfriend. On the other, he was heavily involved in organizing it, so he probably could have been all "yes I will take this one thankyouverymuch" and everyone else was like "fine, let him have his girlfriend".
(I mean, I think you can argue that he was a little seriously into her based on the poem he gave her when the British left. I just don't know if you can do it based on the Mischianza.)
#john andre#peggy chew#mischianza#you British bastards and your inconsistent spelling#somewhere André: “Your fascination with my love life is weird and creepy.”#oh I can make this so much worse#would you like me to actually write that John André/Isaac van Wart fic?#André: “right yes let's debate how much I wanted to put my hands inside Peggy Chew's dress”

The Poshest Bedstead in Islington Part 16
“Ron, what did he mean by that?” Hermione hissed.
“It’s a bit complicated, Hermione,” Ron whispered back. “How much do you know about house elves after last year?”
“They don’t really talk about themselves.”
“Right, oh, keep up.” Ron pulled Hermione along. “We don’t want to get lost in here on the first day. She isn’t used to us yet.”
“Who?” Hermione crowded closer to him.
“The house,” Ron answered. “Magical houses can be a bit particular. But the elves. There’s two kinds of bindings for elves—they either bind themselves to the family and land or they’re bound by the family using the Clothes Covenant. Nasty bit of business that is.”
“So what are Hogwarts elves?” Hermione asked.
Ron could practically hear the wheels in her brain turning.
“They bind themselves for as long as they wish. That’s why they were so annoyed with you. Thought you were trying to trick them.”
They hurried after Kreacher, who moved surprisingly fast for his age. Up and up the stairs they went, the watered silk walls stretching above them.
“And Kreacher?” Hermione prompted.
“He likely bound himself to the family. We’d have to ask. He’s the head elf, though.” Ron panted a bit. He’d got out of shape with this many stairs since they left Hogwarts. The house probably wanted a good look at them.
“Like a…a butler?” Hermione racked her brain for the correct position.
“Oh, no, the Nanny, actually. Being trusted to take care of the children in a family is a great honor. Mum said people have been trying to snaffle Kreacher from the Blacks for ages.”
“But…but why?” Hermione asked.
“He’s seen more brilliant matches than most have forgotten,” Ron explained. “And he’s considered the foremost expert in appropriate behavior in Society outside my great aunt Muriel.”
“And he’s in charge of us?”
“Anyone who isn’t out of Hogwarts yet…though I think he and mum agreed to leave the twins alone. They aren’t having a come-out.”
“Are we, Ron?” Hermione’s whisper held a touch of hysteria. “And why are these stairs taking so long?”
“House wants to get to know us, for the second one. And yes, of course, for the first.”
“Yes, of course?!” Hermione hissed. “There’s no ‘of course’ about it, Ronald. My parents are dentists. We are not fancy people. I come from a long line of very strongly not fancy people.”
“And my family is? You’ve seen the Burrow, Hermione. Well, dad might have been born to fancy, but mum comes from a long line of country squire types. She only goes to Almack’s a couple times a Season and then only when the Bulstrodes are going.”
“My mother regularly chained herself to governmental buildings in protest in her youth, Ron. They’re both ardent anti-monarchists! That’s a bit different than country squires.”
“I reckon it is different, just a bit,” Ron soothed. “But no one knows about that here. They just know you as a brilliant student and one of Harry’s best friends. And you’re sponsored by House Black now, so there’s that as well. We’re a bit higher in the world than either of us ever intended, Hermione. And it isn’t as if we have to worry about a monarchy. We don’t have one of those. Might have to worry about Fudge toadying up, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it.”
“But—” Hermione clutched at Ron’s hand.
“Hermione, we are going to do this for Harry. He…well I reckon he doesn’t actually need us but he does much better when we’re there. So we’re going to learn from Kreacher and probably my mum and we’re going to be best friends with the catch of the season and we’re going to watch his back like we’re in war. Because Almack’s is a battlefield, Hermione, and I won’t leave Harry without cover on a battlefield.” Ron stopped for a moment to give his passionate speech.
“The catch of the Season…” Hermione murmured distractedly, looking as if she might start giggling. “You sound like your mum.”
“Well he is. I suppose mum can be right sometimes. People weren’t expecting all this for him, you know. He’s going to put so many noses out of joint.” Ron said the last mostly to himself, looking as if he’d relish the fight.
“I just…I don’t understand this world. I’m made for…for academia, perhaps, or a nice research position somewhere. Not balls and parties and worrying about clothes and what my cuticles are doing.”
“I’d hope not much.” Ron tried to pull her out of the dismals.
Hermione snickered. “You know what I mean. This is the one thing I don’t know if I can do.”
“There isn’t any problem that can’t be solved by you applying your brain, you know. If people can find fault with us then it’ll hurt Harry. It sounds ridiculous, but I’m not going to hurt him again, not if I can help it.”
“I suppose I can try—”
“If Miss Hermione and Master Ronald are quite done lollygagging and whispering on the stairs?” Kreacher’s voice interrupted their whispered conversation.
“Er, coming, Kreacher.” Ron grabbed Hermione’s wrist and hustled them up the two flights to reach Kreacher and Ginny. “Terribly sorry.”
Kreacher sniffed at the pair of them. “When Kreacher says there are baths ready then there are baths ready.”
“Of course. We, er, just needed a moment. Not used to all the stairs,” Ron explained.
“As if Kreacher is deaf,” he muttered. “Come along. The schoolroom party is off this landing.”
Ron and Hermione shared a look and bit their lips to keep from laughing. He sounded almost exactly like an exasperated Professor McGonagall.
Hermione found herself in a large, mostly empty room off the landing with Ginny and a young woman who wore a dark, impeccably tailored dress. Although she’d never really cared much for fashion, mum made sure she knew what good clothes looked like and this young woman wore good clothing. Not one stitch seemed out of place. A Lady’s Maid, Hermione’s brain supplied. She couldn’t be anything but dressed so smartly. Hermione felt the panic clawing in her chest again and took a deep breath.
What did it matter that she’d never planned for a life that included maids? She was here, now, in a world where they existed and she’d best pull her socks up and get on with it. It didn’t matter how juvenile and dowdy she felt up against 1930s tailoring. It simply could not matter to her that what felt practical and comfortable just an hour ago now made her feel out of place and horribly under-dressed. Honestly, she couldn’t be any help to Harry if she went to pieces over domestic help.
“Daley is your Lady’s Maid, Miss Hermione and Miss Ginevra,” Kreacher explained, gesturing to each of them at their names. “Kreacher will leave you in her capable hands. Tea will be in the morning room in forty minutes.”
The three of them stood in the quiet room for a moment as Kreacher took Ron off, muttering about blue jeans and children catching their death.
“Oh, we’re going to have such fun with your clothes and hair!” She clapped a hand over her mouth, looking mortified.
Hermione felt strangely reassured by the evidence of her…humanity? Daley looked so unapproachably smart waiting for them that she worried they wouldn’t get on. The little outburst made her feel more like…well, like Lavender.
“I think we are,” she said decidedly. “I’d love your advice on my hair. It seems to react to the ambient magic of a room and I’ve never got it to stop.”
“And I’m looking forward to someone who isn’t my mum looking over my wardrobe. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Daley,” Ginny added.
“I’m so pleased to be here. His Grace promised us a grand rummage in the attics later for furnishings—I think he wanted this to feel like your space—and clothes and fabric. I hope I haven’t overstepped, but I asked Mrs. Weasley for your measurements since she knits for you and whipped up just simple frocks and slips and things. Kreacher is a bit particular about clothes,” Daley explained.
“Does he not like trousers on girls?” Hermione asked.
“Well, miss, I don’t think he approves of trousers on anyone in or around House Black on principal. It was a pitched battle in the Hall between him and Mrs. Kershaw on the footmen’s livery.”
Hermione blinked at that bit of news. “What did he want them wearing?”
“Short cotes and hose, if you’ll believe it! We don’t see much of that any longer in London. I know some of the tenant farmers at the Keep wear those things, but for the footmen? And the stablehands? They like their breeches.” Daley herded both girls to the bathroom as she explained.
“Some of the farmers around the Burrow wear cotes and things,” Ginny added. “They say it’s more comfortable, but so do the ones who wear a smock and breeches. Oh, merciful Morgana, two tubs with properly hot water!”
The bathroom, unlike the bedroom, had been tricked out with every available convenience in duplicate. The room had been split down the middle by a privacy wall, and each half held a tub, shower, vanity, and w.c….and a few things Hermione couldn’t name. She didn’t think some of them existed as fixtures in the non-magical world any longer, or at least not like that. She approved of the soft green and cream color scheme in the tile, though, despite the oddities.
“I’ll be back in twenty minutes,” Daley sounded as if she wanted to go have a laugh somewhere.
“Thank you!” Hermione and Ginny chorused as the bathroom door shut.
“Footbaths, Hermione, proper separate footbaths! What luxury!” Ginny crowed, her joy underscored by muffled splashing. “Maybe this will get Dad to put that second bathroom in. He’s only been planning it for ages. I think he’d have to update the boiler system, though.”
“One can only hope,” Hermione replied, slipping into her own tub. “The twins have been menaces with the hot water.”
A full week of tepid baths took their toll on even the most good-natured of people. Hermione would be first to admit she wasn’t that good-natured at the best of times. She relaxed into the hot water, letting the stresses of the early part of her summer go. Her parents were safe behind all the dubiously legal enchantments Mr. Black laid down on home, vehicle, and office. She and the Weasleys were safe too. Hermione shivered despite the hot water—she and Ron were the first to see the weasel nailed to the barn door that awful, awful morning at the Burrow. Her parents had received some horrible things in the post, too, she knew that much. Neither they nor Mrs. Weasley would say what was in the letters, but they all looked grim when asked.
She’d miss the time she’d usually spend with her parents, but perhaps after Mr. Black was finally free they could visit? He’d mentioned it as a possibility if it seemed safe. He wouldn’t do that if he didn’t want them about. She had that journal she’d never quite known what to write in…perhaps she could keep a record of what they did during the day…and get a camera somewhere too. Mum and Dad would love having a tangible reminder that she thought of them and wanted them included in her life. Still photos would be better…though there had to be a way to stop them moving when someone who didn’t know about magic came about. That would take a bit of research. Perhaps…perhaps that could be her side project for the year? Figuring out how to use magic to make it easier to integrate a magical child into a non-magical household.
Special photo frames or books, maybe? Or maybe some kind of switch? They had those lightstones that ran on switches just like bulbs. There had to be a way to suppress the magic in things like photos. Oh, and some kind of cabinet system to store obviously magical things like trunks and broomsticks that would keep the curious away. Rather like the repelling wards around Hogwarts…it could make someone desperately want to make a cup of tea or something like that if they weren’t meant to see. Something gentle, anyway, nothing that would cause hurt.
Products like that would certainly have made Harry’s life easier before Kreacher got involved, especially if they could integrate something like into an actual trunk. She hoped Harry wasn’t too terribly lonely. She’d do the same sort of thing for him as for her parents, she resolved, only in letters. She didn’t want Harry feeling like no one thought of him, especially not after the year he’d had.
“I can feel you stewing over there,” Ginny broke in on her reverie. “It’s got a particular feeling, you overthinking things.”
Hermione laughed. “All right, I’ll stop. What are you most excited about?”
That should get Ginny going for at least fifteen minutes. Hermione let her friend’s excited chatter wash over her and closed her eyes. It had been such an early morning.

Snapril Fools Day:
March 30th: I. Medieval AU
A proof of loyalty
The sun was burning down on the small riding party as they made their way up the hilly road. Once they reached the top the party came to a halt. Severus raised his hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead. They had spent the last three nights riding to the court of the King. After twenty years of civil war, following the death of King James, the realm had been finally reunited under the true heir to the throne, Harry I. of House Potter. The new king had called for all of the Lords of the Realm to come to the capital and bend the knee to him. Therefore Severus had come as the representative of House Prince to do as his King commanded. But as he travelled the Kingsroad he found himself ridden with doubts. What if he was walking right into a trap? After all he and his family hadn’t been loyal to the King from the start. What if the King sought revenge for Severus‘ betrayal of Queen Lily?
"Mylord? Shall we continue?" the words of his squire ripped Severus from his down spiralling.
"Yes. Tell the men we‘re walking on." And with that the troop of riders continued on their journey.
They rode for many hours more until they were met with the sight of Hogwarts castle, seat of the royal family. It was a large build with sevaral large towers and turrets reaching into the sky above. Flags presenting the royal sigil, a golden stag on scarlet ground, were flowing from the tips of each of them. Severus slowed his horse as they rode over the drawbridge that led into one of the castle’s many courtyards. Severus had last been here when he attended the royal academy over twenty years ago.
Inside the castle he was shown to the guest wing where he was able to clean himself up before his audience with the King. He also changed himself from his travelling cloak into a clean, black doublet that sported his family crest, a crowned silver serpent with emerald eyes. The throne room was a large hall with a high, enchanted ceiling that portrayed a starry night sky. The windows were made out of stained glass portraying the sigils of all the noble and ancient families of the realm. At the end of the hall stood a large golden throne on which sat the new King. Before Severus arrived in the capital he had heard many tales of the orphan turned ruler. Most people believed him to be the spitting image of his father save for his green eyes. As Severus looked upon the King he found those tales to be wrong. While Harry had indeed inherited his fathers physical appearance he lacked the air of joy and mischief that had always surrounded his father. Instead he wore a look of seriousness and sadness that made him appear far older than his twenty one years. One of the heralds announced him as he approached the throne and Severus bowed down on the spot.
"Rise." The King said coldly.
Severus rose and took a look at the people present at court. He didn’t recognise any of them. From reports Severus knew that the King‘s godfather, Lord Sirius Black, had been killed in battle as well as Sir Remus Lupin the long time mentor of King Harry. Most other people Severus knew from his time at the Academy were either dead, imprisoned or had fled the country. On the left side of King Harry sat a tall young man with ginger hair and many freckles, on the left sat a young woman with the same ginger hair, Severus assumed these two to be Ronald Weasley and Ginevra Weasley. The former was the Kings Hand and the latter his Betrothed. Another person next to Ginevra Weasley caught Severus‘ eye. There stood a beautiful young woman with brown hair and brown eyes who was dressed in a scarlet dress. The king rose making Severus‘ attention turn back to him.
"Lord Prince I‘m glad you arrived. Please do follow me."
And with that the King led him out the throne room and into the royal gardens. "Lord Snape as already proclaimed I am glad you travelled to court and bend the knee. I have to admit I wasn’t sure wether you’d come. You did betray my mother after all." The King said while he eyed Severus carefully.
"Your Grace I assure you, that you have my loyalty and that of my house and its vassals."
"And I would love to believe your word, Lord Snape, but I cannot put the well being of my people in danger. It is because of that that I have decided to make you prove your loyalty."
"And how exactly am I to do that, your Grace?"
"Simple, Lord Snape. You remember the young woman next to Lady Ginevra? Her name is Lady Hermione Dagworth-Granger and she is one of my most loyal subjects. You will be wed to her."
To be continued?
Okay so I wrote this for the snaprilfoolsday celebrations. To be fair this was largely inspired by my recently reinvoked love for A Song of Ice and Fire. As well as the Snamione fic "Knighthood" by the lovely Ciule on AO3. I'm also pretty sure that I'm gonna make this into a larger fanfic. (I really want to write a tourney scene)
